Edward Ainsworth's POV

The first time I saw her, she was running, and I wanted to know why~

Soule, in the North of Wahala, was the city side of the north. This was where the Royal born would lodge whenever they came visiting. Robb Ainsworth, my father and king, had spent over seven hours deliberating on matters I could not care less about, while I tried to be the dutiful son he wants me to be. He brought me along to learn the way negotiation and agreements worked across the kingdom. He could have taken my older brother, Xavier Ainsworth along since he was next in line of succession, but he believes Xavier is not worthy and I am. The irony.

We arrived this morning and planned to leave once the negotiation ended. We came back to the Royal Lodge and while Robb returned to bed; I stayed awake, staring through the window of my room at the half-moon. Then I stared at the city at night, wondering what it would feel like to walk amongst the people. Perhaps if I wasn’t crowned prince, I would have known what that felt like. Life has always been in the castle around my brother, whose withdrawal grew with every passing day, and my cousin Elliot Ainsworth, whom I knew better than to trust.

The only thing I have is my magic and though my father frowns on that, I do my best to learn because it is who I am.

I sat at the window for another hour, working on my chant and spell. I tried conjuring fire with my fingers, but ended up with mere smoke instead.

This was pointless.

It was already dark, and the night owls were coming out to display their dominance on the territory. It was time to get some sleep, as tomorrow would be another long day. I almost tore my gaze from the window when I saw someone run past the fence of the hotel at a pace that I’d never seen before. Less than ten seconds after this person ran past, about a dozen other people ran and pursued after.

My curiosity gets the best of me because I now wanted to know what was this person's crime.

Perhaps I should mind my business and not get involved, but I had lacked the spontaneity of life for so long and this right here was my chance to have a look at what it was like.

I grabbed my hood and swung it over my shoulder. In the daytime, its design would tell the world I was royalty, the son of the king, but with the darkness that came with the night, no one would consider me royalty at first glance.

I hurry out of my room and I notice the guards positioned not so far from my door, so I took the back door and made my way out.

Once out, I fall in line with the chasers as fast as I can. I race into the woods and with the wind blowing over my face; I run towards the path where they ran through, hoping to meet up with the one being chased. My first shift is still a year or two away so I don’t have any powers, which means I am vulnerable, but I have magic, I always have.

A few chants and I could transport from here to anywhere I wanted, but I am still yet to perfect my wordings. Mother always said to say the right chant or I could do actual damage.

After what felt like forever, I saw the men I had seen from my room on the chase, which told me I wasn’t only on the right course, but I was also closer to getting answers.

But why am I out here chasing someone I don’t know? Why does it feel so important? Why does it matter to me what happens to this person? Why do I care?

You care because it’s an adventure and you get to help someone.

This person could be guilty of what he or she is being chased for.

Even you don’t believe that.

I’d cuss now at the raging voices in my head, but mother won’t be so happy about it if she found out.

As I get closer to the men running, I cast a spell, which dispersed fog rapidly through the woods. The spell conceals the path they are to follow from their eyes.

The men slowed down, and the leader warned them to stand back with his hand held up and his men obeyed. I followed up by casting a divisive spell which conjured up three replicas of the path they had followed, causing more confusion in their midst. I keep my distance and watch from my stand far away.

“I told you she’s a witch!” one man hissed with his hand balling into a hard fist.

“What do we do now, boss?” another asked the man who had led the chase, and the rest turned their heads to him like lost sheep.

“We split and whoever finds her, kills her.” he seethed and his frustration vibrated off his deep voice. “Our assignment was to capture her, but she seems to be harder to kill than a cockroach.” At his instructions, the six men split up, with at least one person following the four paths.

Life wasn’t rose outside the Palace. Perhaps this was my cue to leave, to run back to the Royal lodge and remain in my father’s protection until I’m old and strong enough to face the world. However, a girl was on the run for her life and she would die if I do nothing. She didn’t know me yet, but she needed my help.

I knew the path the girl ran through and only one man followed it as the rest went through the divisive path that led nowhere. I followed him, running as fast as my legs could take me while praying this girl being chased found safety as fast as possible.

After another long minute of chasing, the man slows down and sniffed the air, “Princess I am coming for you,” he snared, “I’ve received permission to kill you, but I’d like to taste you before spilling your young blood.”

I almost threw up in my mouth.

My life wasn’t the best, but I didn’t grow up with survival on my mind. At least I wasn’t being chased around and threatened with death and tasting human blood. Life was cruel outside the Palace and the comfort of royalty and I wonder if this is why father came to the north, to put up laws that will protect the weak people and put a stop to this once and for all.

“Princess, your magic may have tempered with our powers, but I can feel your fear. It’s a natural wolf’s instinct. No magic can change that.” he called out.

I drew closer and spotted the shadow of someone at the back of the tree with her hand covering her nose and mouth to stop any rough breathing, whimpers or sound from slipping out.

The sight of her captivated me, even as I stand far off. I do not move. She looked a few summers younger than me. She had curly black hair which looked rough and had a few dry leaves hanging on them, probably from falling on her face a few times. Her eyes were a silver-grey, which I wouldn’t be able to tell if they weren’t so outstanding despite the night.

The man chasing her interrupted my thoughts, roaring, “I think your skin would feel good underneath mine. I like to hear how you scream when you’re unable to stop your body from responding to my cock shoved far up your sweet cunt.” he snarled and he meant it.

I never liked the idea of fighting, that’s why I never trained, but the vile words this man uttered from his pile hole made my blood boil and made me regret never learning how to fight. Because right now, I wanted to greet his face with my fist and not in a friendly way.Her head lifted, and her eyes caught sight of me staring at her. Her breath hitched and her eyes widen as fear registered in them. I held up my hands in surrender, trying to make her understand I wasn’t with them. Then I place my finger to my mouth, telling her to remain silent. She nodded, still panting. The man who stood on the other side of the woods glanced around and then made his way towards the side of the woods where the girl stood while looking around for her.I knew I couldn’t stay hidden anymore. The man intended to harm her because she was weaker and I couldn’t stay still. Stepping out would mean throwing myself out in the line. That could get me hurt, and who knows what else would happen? Five years later Dyan and I stepped into Dive, the official beer house of the south. It’s been a long-ass journey from the La Ville Royale, all the way to Kame the capital city of the South. It would have been longer if I didn’t leave with my best friend, Dyan Ortega. I have an assignment, a message to deliver to the Lord of the South, and I will do that tomorrow. This was one of the times I could leave the Palace on my own, the king trusts that since I’m much older, I will be safer now. The incident that happened when he took me to Soule of the north plagued him. Though I got the blame for being out, the king looked more worried than I’d ever seen. I had gotten hurt, and that scared him more than anything. Perhaps he couldn't imagine losing his only 'good son'. When the king asked me what happened, I lied. I told him I went out for a walk only to end up being chased by evil men. The same night, father sent guards out, and the guards captured four of the rest five men chasing th

“Edward, please rethink this.” I heard Dyan whispered from behind, but the dice had already been tossed and I was rolling with it.“Who the fuck are you?” the man asked, his voice deeper than it was when he spoke to the girl, but if he aimed to terrify me, he had to try harder because I didn’t scare easily.“No one,” I replied. The wicked smirk that has always lingered on my face in a serious moment appeared. The man nudged his head to his men and they let the girl go and stepped forward toward me.“I advice you to think this through, but I doubt you lots have that skill.” I chuckled and their eyes flared as a wolf-like growl left their mouths.I backed away, only to come in contact with Dyan, who stood behind me.“This makes no sense. This isn’t what we are here for,” he groaned. “And I didn’t ask for this.”The first man swung at me and as I ducked, Dyan caught his hand and punched him in his face.“I know, but you have to admit, this is fun, right?” I yelled.“No, it isn’t.”“Told y

“She’s fucking gone!” Dyan growled as he returned to the room where I was seated on the bed as if I didn’t know that. The first thing I tried to do after realising she ran off with the funds was use my magic to search for her. I couldn’t track her. My magic refused to do the one thing I wanted, unfortunately, for me. I felt the restraint of my magic five years ago and I felt it yesterday, yet I ignored all the signs. The first people I went to meet after my magic failed were the resort watchmen. They all claimed they didn’t see any lady in the early hours of the morning, leaving us to believe she had left in the middle of the night. I specifically told the king I didn’t want his guards coming along because I intended to make our visit as quick and as unnoticed as I could. If the guards had come along, we would have drawn too much-unneeded attention, but this wouldn’t have happened. We wouldn’t have lost the bags containing the two thousand pieces of gold. Learn the difference. If you as much as lay your hands on them without their consent again, I will ban you from the Desire Parlour. Do you understand?” I ask the middle-aged man still nursing his bruised jaw from the fist of my guard. He was at the care unit of my parlour. This was where those hurt during physical altercation came to get treated. He nodded vigorously, “Yes mistress.” I smiled at him. “Good.” my hand lifted to stroke his face, and I ran it over his jaw and down his neck, earning a thick moan from his throat. “That’s my good boy. Did you spend enough money tonight?” I asked, watching his eyes shutter as he tried to enjoy my touch for as long as he could. “I spent all I had, mistress.” His lashes fluttered and his gaze locked on mine. I could have thanked him seven years ago, but I couldn’t trust that he and his friend weren’t out for their own selfish interests. It wouldn’t be the first. Besides, they were going to get rid of me the next day, and I knew I had to be a step ahead. Perhaps I would finally get the chance to thank him this time.I leaned in and my lips placed against his for a slow kiss because I was unsure how he wanted the night to go. He was calculating and I highly doubt my seduction would make him into a fool like the other men.Or could it?He responded to my kiss, sighing. His words sank into my ears and weakened my being from the inside out. He had everything planned out from the very beginning, and he looked anything but bluffing. With the last strength in me, I rose from his lap, taking myself to the other chair across from him as fast as I could and standing behind it. "And you thought that after revealing your mission here, I'd still want to fuck you." His gaze stayed on me, hot, calm, watching my every move. "You don't have to like me to fuck me, mistress. You just have to want to fuck. Angry fucking is one of my favourites." I felt shivers run down my spine and it was because of his words and the fact that his eyes stayed on my body while he spoke. I hated the response my body gave, even when the seed of dislike had been sown for him. This was the full moon bringing alive different emotions beyond my control. I turned to him, my eyes flaring. “How much would this go for?” I asked, picking up a silver sequence material hanging on the wall, which I could already picture myself in. I was currently at the market square, needing a wardrobe change. Having a dazzling outfit was one of those things that made our victims at the desired parlour swoon. It’s the first thing that always captivated them. Our performance and seductive acts came after. Getting for myself also meant getting for my workers as well, because uniformity at the parlour is key. “A yard would go for three pieces of gold, but for you, I would give two,” Pedro said with a friendly grin. He has been my go-to seller in the past six years of running the parlour and not only does he give discounts, but he also advises on which material is best and which would last longer. With the parlour gone, Kailani spent most of her time travelling. Nothing was keeping her anymore, Rue had Oliver and Jane had Glen and all was well and she gave her time to travelling. It was her way of escaping the memories the city brought into her mind. Some of those memories were the ones she made with Prince Edward, her one true love. It was harder spending time here when every corner of her home and city reminded her of him. She knew she wouldn’t survive if she stayed, so she moved to Soule in the north, the place she was born only coming to visit Lurds once in a while. Today was one of those days. Rue and Oliver welcomed their babies a week ago, and as soon as she received words, she set out to visit. Rue had told her she would be their children’s godmother, and she had to be present and celebrate with the family, her family, for this wonderful news. They held a feast to celebrate, and she was just right on time. She hadn’t stayed in Lurds for more than a day for the past co

“He’s miserable without her,” Xavier, the alpha king, said, coming to stand where Robb stood watching Edward from far away deliberating with the counsel of learners at the scholar’s institute. “As anyone would be without their true mate.” Edward had been back in the capital for the past six months, living and obeying every command of the alpha of alphas without questions. It was his oath, and so far he had done his job of keeping it. The trial found lady Shewa guilty of murder and malicious conspiracy and also the death of Kemi and Romeo at the parlour. She was then demoted to an omega in the capital. After losing her rank as a beta and title as a noble, the house Black disowned her and disconnected their ties with her. With Shewa’s rank gone, Robb could no longer force his hand into marrying her. But he was back at the capital, attending to royal duties and going along to all Robb’s outreach to unite the kingdom, as well as the neighbouring ones in the war, which he believed was clos

A week later The king’s guards returned with news of the capture of Cynthia. She was about to cross the border of the north into the kingdom of Jade. It had been three weeks since the attack on the parlour and this was good news for not just Kailani but for every worker at the parlour. When she heard the news of Cynthia’s capture, she wanted to confront her about the truth; but she feared her anger might make her do something drastic, like snapping the backstabber's neck. She deserved that and even more for what she did, but her time was coming. Edward took the lead and after thorough questioning and torture, Cynthia confessed to not working alone like she initially claimed. She called a few names, and Kailani knew them in Lurds. These were men who were kicked out of the parlour because of their recklessness and lack of self-control in the past. Cynthia also called the instigator of the attack on the parlour as Lady Shewa of the house black. Kailani initially thought Robb Ainsworth

The door to the room opened, and they pulled apart to see Jane and a few other workers from the parlour standing there. A big smile spread over her face on seeing them present at the temple, alive and well. They moved and gathered around her bedside, all having looks of relief on their faces as they beheld her. It warmed her heart up and made her grateful to be alive. “Thank you all for coming to see me,” she said, her eyes looking through the crowd around her bed.“It’s the least we can do for everything you did,” Jane smiled cheerfully at her. “And thank you for not abandoning us in the blazing house,” Kyra said with a grateful smile on her face.“I would never do that. You’re all my family and I’m happy we made it. I believe whatever comes our way, we will overcome.” The workers stayed around for a few more hours before most took their leave, leaving only a few behind. As the crowd in the room reduced, her eyes searched for the few notable faces she longed to see, but didn’t see

Edward stepped through the portal and into the city of Lurds at the location where the parlour was. Just like he feared something terrible had happened, the parlour was on fire and those around were fleeing from it. The choking smoke of the flames that oozed out of the parlour travelled through the nose and burnt the lungs. The amount of wolfsbane present in the smoke was enough to kill even the strongest werewolf, if trapped in it for too long. This was an attack on the parlour and whoever was behind it had their plans thought through and executed. Knowing that someone would do this angered Edward, and knowing Kailani was still inside terrified him. He couldn’t lose her too, he wouldn’t make it. The few that came out of the parlour were running as far as they could to safety, but she wasn’t one of them. He caught a maiden running by the arm and made her stop. “Prince Edward!” Kyra acknowledged him and bowed her head despite her fear. “Where’s lady Kailani?” he demanded and fear re

“The earlier I start my journey, the faster I will get back to Lurds,” Edward told Xavier whom he had woken up in the early hours of the morning. “If anyone had told me, we will have this conversation about you ever finding a maiden and getting married. I wouldn’t have believed them,” Xavier spoke with a grin on his face as they walked towards the study. They would spend the next hours to come deliberating on the proceeding of the wedding at Lurds before Edward would leave. Edward had put in motion the plan for the wedding. The last task he had to do was meet the dressmaker for the robes the king and queen would wear at their wedding. He had done all he needed to do and was ready to return to Lurds, where his mate and lover waited for him. He missed her. He missed her laughter, her smile, her naughtiness, her wildness. The longer her eyes stayed shut, trying to figure out what was happening, the more the pain in her skin grew and became unbearable. Her breathing also became restricted, as if the air was cut out and every intake became a battle and she choked. Her eyes snapped open to see thick, blinding smoke covering up her chambers. The smoke had cut out her vision, so she didn’t see anything a few feet away even if she tried. It wasn’t a dream, she soon realised, and she felt trapped. Confusion and question filled her head as she wondered what could have started this great choking smoke. It wasn’t an ordinary smoke. She wouldn’t feel so weak and tired if it was. The smell and the pain it caused when breathing told her this was wolfsbane. This wasn’t just a random happening, this was an attack on the parlour. She got up and race to the bathroom and threw

Edward travelled to the capital a week ago to relate the plans he had made to his brother, the king. The wedding, according to plans, should hold next week and this was Edward’s last visit to the capital before his union with his love. When Kailani asked if he wanted her to come along, he smiled and told her to stay back and make sure all their plans for the day were perfect. This was the only task she had and she had to do justice to it. She could do that. It felt like a dream, but the day she would unite with Edward as one drew closer with every hour that passed. He had proposed them moving to the capital after marriage and though she’d gone along with every single thing he’d said happily, that made her a little sad. Yes, she wanted to step aside from the parlour, but moving to the capital would mean farewell completely. Saying good bye to everything and everyone she had grown to love. She knew moving to the capital was inevitable because the capital was called La Ville De Roy

Kailani got down from her carriage and approached the parlour when she noticed Jane standing at the entrance with a scroll in her hand and a worried look on her face. Her eyes narrowed at her as she approached, but Jane didn’t notice her presence yet and kept looking around instead. She got to her and placed a hand on her shoulder, making her jump on her stand. She twirled around and found Kailani, and the fear faded away. Ever since Kailani took a step back from the parlour, she had stopped coming as early as she used to. She took a step back because Edward had asked for her hand and when she said yes; he moved to propose a wedding ceremony and that had taken her time and focus. They were sceptical about the venue because they wanted to avoid the alpha of alphas whom Edward refused to invite, but also wanted the king's presence. Kailani voiced her insecurities about the capital and so they decided to have a small wedding in Lurds. She was happy with the turnout of things, but stil
