"Arisa," I tried to gently wake her from her sleep. We have been traveling for a few hours now. Liz has been flying ahead to scout every once in a while, but so far, we have faced no problems. We just reached the other city. My legs felt ready to give out and I am barely able to keep myself awake.
"Arisa...." I shook her gently."Yeah?" She replied in a soft sleepy voice. My heart skipped a beat, I ignored it."We are here." 'Here' was an old house that use to belong to a friend of our moms. He lets us use it whenever we are in town.Arisa fell back to sleep before I even finished my sentence. Chuckling, I brought her into the house and carried her to my room, tucking her into my bed. Guess it is the sofa for me tonight.Well, not really night considering it is already morning.... God I am tired.
I went to the living room to find Liz passed out on the sofa. I sighed."Liz." I woke her as gently as I could. "You have to shower so you don't get sick."She simply nodded and left. I wish I could stick around and make sure she did, or in the least sleep a bit, but I need to do something before I settle in.I walked out of the house and set up a barrier around the house. To set up the barrier I do a simple chant in demon ancient language and draw a small circle over the main entrance of the building, in other words the front door of the house. This barrier allows me to know when demons or anyone with ill intentions come near the house and if they try to enter, the house will defend itself. Satisfied that at least they were safe, I set out to Veronica's.Veronica is an ancient witch nearly 7 centuries old, damn old hag. If anyone knows who we are up against now, it is her. The only problem, she's known for her trickery and finding out any and all weaknesses and secrets, which is exactly why I left the girls at the house. As I made my way through the city I tried to stick to the alleys. Don't want anyone to stop me and ask questions while I am heading to Veronica's.After 30 minutes of walking through the town I came upon her house. It was simple, nice, not really what you expect, but looks can be deceiving. I walked around to the back of the house. There in the far-right corner of the yard sits an old shed. To just a normal person passing by it would look like all it held was junk and almost as if it would collapse from rust at any given moment. Next to the door is a digital panel for a pass code, one most people would not expect to be there. Stepping up to the door I entered in the pass code. 1992785. The door clicked and slid open. The air inside smelled sterile, and the walls were covered in clean steel. It was awful. Stepping more inside I found the elevator I was looking for. I pressed LV-6.When I stepped into the room, there were four broad shouldered men waiting for me."Security check." As they stepped towards me, I stepped back, the weight of the gun tucked into the back of my jeans seemed to get heavier."Enough boys. This is my friend Cziro. Isn't that, right?" Veronica said. Even though it sent horrible chills down my spine, I nodded. "Come Cziro."I followed her into another room. "I see that you have changed your appearance once again Veronica." Compared to her appearance of a little 12-year-old girl last time, she looked much different. Now she had long blonde hair and pale skin. She also has full lips and big gray doe eyes. Her figure seemed like more of an exaggerated hourglass than curvy. She didn't bother to look modest as her clothes were short and clung tightly to each and every curve of her skin, almost as if it was a second skin. If I didn't know her true age this might have affected me."Still quite the charmer I see Cziro. Now, what have you come here for? It has been a while, no?""I need to know who is after me and how they know of my existence." I replied firmly.Straight-to-the-point, that's the only way I will get out of here alive.
"Cziro, surely you know better how I work by now. What is my payment," when I didn't reply at first, she continued on, "please tell me you didn't come here empty handed Cziro? You know I-""I have information!"She seemed shocked. "On?"I looked up at her determined, "Myself!"She licked her lips greedily. "What about you?""Who my main companion is..." I could practically see the gears turning inside her head. I knew this was valuable. Especially to someone who loves information. If this got out people would be after not just me, but Liz as well. They would be sending more people after us."Deal. The name of the organization after you is known as Core. They hunt and kill demons and capture the ones they deem useful. Their main objective is to put themselves on the top of the world organization center, or the WOC. They see you as a prize. You, the only one to survive birth into the half demon half human stage. Many previous to you died as soon as they were born. Their human half too weak to hold the demon half bay. Many are just born as humans, and no matter what experiments we have done they won't change. Even blood transfusion doesn't work. But they also see you as an abomination to both races. They learned of your existence by chance. They simply saw you protecting your companion one day from another demon. They saw you shift into two stages and saw you about to shift into your third when just the power of you beginning the shift killed the demon. They want your blood, it is somehow different, special even. Now, my payment?"
I stood up and began to leave the room. Just before I stepped out the door I answered, "She is my sister, related by blood." I heard her gasp before I closed the door and left. I don't know if I made a mistake or not, but either way the information may be useful.I began my way home, once again sticking to the alleys. It was a while before I got home. My muscles seemed to be screaming in agony. I didn't even bother showering. In order to prevent me from getting sick I shifted into my demon form before passing out on the couch."Mark!....... Mark! Wake up!" Something hard smacked me on the head."Ow!" I turned about to slash at whatever dared to hit me in this form when I saw Arisa. She was standing before me with and apron on and a frying pan, with a dent the size of my forehead on it."Damn. Didn't think you had such a hard head..."I glared at her. "Why on Earth would you hit me?!?""You can't very well sleep all day!!"Like she's one to talk. I looked towards the clock in the wall and groaned. I had only slept an hour. I ignored my body's aching protests and got up."Breakfast is ready." She said smiling. Hopefully, breakfast can wake me up a bit, at least until I am able to rest again.I sat at the table and pretty much inhaled my food. I would like to say it tasted good, but to be honest I was so hungry, and I ate so fast I don't even think I tasted it."How are you guys doing?" I asked them."I am good," Arisa answered. Liz just nodded with a huge smile on her face."We should get another night's rest and then we should head out."Liz nodded, trusting my judgement. Arisa on the other hand, questioned it. "Why are we leaving so soon? We just got here, and 'here' seems to be SAFE."I sighed. "Don't you remember what I said last time? Nowhere is ever safe. Especially now. Besides, we need to stop Cor-the organization that is after us and help anyone who is being terrorized by it as well." I barely managed to hide the information I knew. If they knew how much I knew they would ask why, and I can't let them know how much lengths I go through to keep them safe. Seeming defeated, Arisa just nodded."Good, now that that's out of the way, we should prepare and then we can relax."I can barely hold myself up. After all those hours of walking through snow and through the city and only an hour of sleep, my body seems to be breaking down on me. Ugh. I walked around the room making sure I have everything I need. Hmm... Maybe I should shower and wash these clothes. Can't hurt. I grabbed some extra clothes and headed into the shower. While in the shower I kept thinking about what Veronica said. Core... Huh. Well... What if, this far they hadn't been trying to kill me.... What do they plan on doing if they ever capture me? I know that even though I told Veronica the truth about Liz, someone would need to pay a price higher than money to get that info from her. It is too valuable to her.Back to Core. What use would I ever be to them? I know I am stronger than most demons, but Veronica also said they thought of me as an abomination. What use would an abomination be to them? What use will my blood do for them? Hmmm.... Then again there's more than just that to think about. What about Arisa? I know we agreed that we trust her, and I do, but what is her true ability? She hacked a computer for confidential files for a top organization. Not only that, but she also seems to be very skilled with a sword. And up until now she has had enough ability to kill demons, which is no easy feat for a human. Which begs the question, how much is she not telling us? And if so, how much will it affect us in the future?Man, all this is giving me a headache, Arisa, Core, Veronica, all of it. Why can't life be easy? Just once? The water had long turned cold. I finally stepped out and troweled down. Putting on some old jersey shorts I took my clothes downstairs to wash."Mark?"I turned to find Arisa looking at me questioningly. "Yeah?""What are you doing?" She asked gesturing to the pile of clothes in my hands."Washing my clothes.""Can I put mine in too?" She asked hopefully."Yeah, might as well get Liz's too. I will set it up so all you have to do is push start. Is that okay?" She just nodded and took off running. Chuckling, I went and put my clothes in the washer and some soap. I left it waiting for Arisa. Guess it is about time I get some sleep. I went to the couch and passed out there."Mark! Help me!" Arisa screamed."Arisa!" I tried to reach for her but there was something blocking me."Arisa!!" I kept fighting and struggling. At what, I am not sure, but I was fighting to break free from it. To reach her."Arisa!!!!"I woke with a start. I was sweating and shivering. I could still feel the nightmare on me. It felt like a thick, dark slime was covering me. I ran and took a shower, attempting to wash off the feeling. Afterward, I felt better physically, but mentally I didn't feel any better. It was still fresh in my mind.I went into the kitchen attempting to get a glass of water. There, sitting on a stool with her head asleep on the counter, was Arisa.I heard her voice in my head, "Mark!" I shook my head hard. Sighing I went around and lifted her into my back."Let's go sleeping beauty. Time to take you back to the room." I carried her and placed her back in my room. I looked at her and began thinking again. What is it about her that seems to bring my walls down like nothing? Just how much is she hiding? Lastly, what was the dream about?Turning around I began to walk out of the room. "Mark?" I heard her ask in a sleepy voice. Without tensing up or turning around I kept walking as if I never heard her. If I turned now, who knows what I would say... Or do...."Don't you dare." I told her just as she began to raise the pan."Huh?" She seemed genuinely surprised.Opening my eyes, I got up and took the pan from her. "You are a dangerous woman; you know that right?" I practically breathed in her ear. She blushed a beet red as I left to put the pan back in the kitchen."Good morning Mark!" Liz yelled happily."Good morning squirt." I leaned down and she kissed my cheek. Liz spoke into my ear, "you like her Mark..."Before I could even reply she skipped away. Ugh, kids. Something touched my tail. I froze up and shivers were sent down my spine. Now instead of just a touch it was being held. An immediate flush fell over my body. Because my blood began flowing again while I was in demon form, I shifted involuntarily into the next stage.Wings sprouted from my back. My incisors lengthened and my claws grew. I look the same other than I was no longer pale. Instead of dead blood
"Ma~ark!" Liz yelled/sung. I could hear her feet pounding down on the floor. Arisa chuckled up on the bed next to me as I continued to pretend to sleep. At that moment, sadly, she let go at my hand. I also felt slightly annoyed. Not at her, but at myself. What was I doing feeling sad about her letting go of my hand? I am practically a grown man feeling sad about something like that. Nonetheless, I couldn't help feeling sad about the 'something like that'.I heard the door burst open and Liz's feet trying to tip-toe. I heard her jump, so I reached up and caught her. Pinning her to the floor I tickled her, and she squealed with laughter. Arisa's giggle only urged me on. Poor Liz didn't know what hit her. Arisa soon joined me. Eventually though, Liz's stomach growled, and we decided she's had enough torture for the day."Hey Mark," Arisa started as we walked to the kitchen, "are we going to stay here again for another night since what happened yesterday or...""Act
After refusing to answer any of their question until we got there, the air around us has seemed tense. If they knew what I planned they would ask for an explanation, and I haven't figured out one that would make sense to them, at the moment anyway.Liz is refusing to speak to me because I am keeping things from her, and Arisa is ignoring me all together. I feel bad, I do, but sometimes I just don't know what to say. It won't come out the way I want it to if I just tell them willy-nilly."Hey Liz come on...." Only silence was her reply. "Liz come on, by now you should know I would never leave you astray...." Hopefully, this won't be the first time. To be honest, I am not so sure of this plan of mine either. All I have now is the hope that it works. She looked to me. Her face said she knew it, but she was still mad. Arisa didn't even glance my way. I sighed. I just can't win.Slowly as we continued on the snow began to dwindle. It went from knee deep to ank
It was a while before anyone got up. Arisa seemed to be the first to stir."Mmm... M-Mark?...." Her voice was soft due to sleep."Yeah?" I was tired, but too afraid to go back to sleep. Arisa simply looked over at me and blushed a crimson red."S-sorry!" She said sounding more awake. "I-I was just surprised you were still up... And all." She stammered towards the end.I couldn't hold back my chuckle. "It is fine Arisa; we need to get going anyway." I stood up and gently shook Liz awake. "Time to get up sweetheart.""Mmm?...Mark?.... Ugh. What time is it?...." She attempted to rub the sleepiness out of her eyes."It’s seven kiddo." She
I stayed silent and looked down."Well?... My dear friend, you are what women call, a mans-man. You are brave, caring, you are hot, obviously much more hot than before, you're a tease, strong, fast, with a mysterious background." I blushed slightly from his praise. "So, what have you to fear in this little petite girl?"I thought back to how strong she looked when we first met. How vulnerable she seems at times. "She may be petite Arron, but she is able to hurt me a lot. I don't think I could recover from this type of pain..." I looked up at him and let my emotions show, as I could only do with my best friend."Do-do you love this girl Cziro?" He seemed shocked by his own words, and they seemed to hang in the air between us. Pulling us closer yet farther apart with the tension."I-I don't think it is that just yet... But I definitely can't get her out if my head man..." He came over and patted my shoulder sympathetically. Like a good friend, he changed th
"Are you ready for this Cziro?" Arron asked me, worry filling his voice. I nodded. I was 2 minutes away from stepping into the arena to face off to General Jerome and his elite team made up of only five people."Did Arisa decide to join you or not?" Arron questioned. I asked that only Aaron stay in the room with me. I couldn't stand
"General Cziro?!? Why wasn't I told of this?" I asked Arron angrily. They want me, me, to- to be the general of the elite?!? They have gone absolutely mad!! I have trouble working as a team with others, much less leading them!"Calm down Cziro, I know your upset-""Upset?! You think I am upset?! No, I am furious! I don't plan on staying forever to lead your army!! I just wish to end my uncle... Not fight your human wars..."
The next morning a notice was sent out to the elites informing them that I wished to see them tomorrow at the crack of dawn for training. I made up my mind to spend all day today getting used to the castle. Opening the door, dressed in casual wear, I ran straight into Liz."Woah, careful there pumpkin. I almost crushed you!" She giggled lightly."Shhhh! Let me into ur room! Hurry!""Wha-?""I know you went this way!" Arisa yelled playfully from around the corner. Liz squealed quietly and his behind me, using me as a human shield. Not a second later Arisa peeked around the corner. I tried to look innocent, but judging by her face I didn't do to well."Hey
The hall was filled with demons of all kinds. They all stood proud and tall, as though it was they who were becoming the new Demon King rather than me. I stood hidden away as they all took their seats, Liz and Arisa were sitting in the very front of the royal families. Each had on a hand-stitched gown of the finest quality made by demons. Arisa's was a long flowing gown which shimmered in the light. The colors of her gown were red and purple. Red signified that she was a blood partner while purple signified royalty, meaning she was MY blood partner. Liz's dress was nice and puffy, at her request, and had the colors purple and white. Purple, she was now a Dark Princess, and white signified purity, AKA, she's single. The rest of the ceremony was a blur. I remember the cheers as I walked before everyone. I remember looking out and everyo
Before long each of the demons had suffered major injuries while I sunk farther and farther into my demon side.Marcus!I recognized the voice, but it did not register to me who exactly it was. My demon did not care, albeit it was slightly irritated from someone attempting to distract him from a most glorious fight.I felt a pull in my head. Things were being moved around. Memories seemed to resurface. I pushed them all down in an attempt to focus of my battle.Marcus, you need to wake up! This is not who you are!My head was pounding. One memory successfully resurfaced, the night at the hotel."Mark, you have to be careful. Dangers lie ahead. There are somethings you need not face if you tread carefully. Do not listen to those who want you to hear, listen to those who speak with blood through their hearts and a soul as pure as all the innocence in the world. For if you venture from their path, your death will b
"Anyone can get and pretend to have the royal name. My brother, Peter, did not have a blood partner. Are you suggesting he had an intimate enough relationship with a woman to allow her to conceive his child without a blood bond?" The generals shifted around uneasily. It was something considered to be prohibited and extremely wrong and dirty."He had a blood bond, he just did not want her, my mother, to deal with all that came with being blood bound to the Demon King," I am not entirely lying."And your mother?" Adraelech asked, though by his voice I knew he already knew the answer."She died four years ago." There was no hesitation in my voice. It was said as though it was nothing but another fact. My demon side was seemingly affecting my emotions, it seems I gave into too many dark desires when fighting this mini army.
Arisa?! Arisa! What's wrong? I could not help it as my body automatically looked for her. She was still on the other side, but she was looking for me. I sighed in relief that she was not in danger and continued my battle. Oh thank goodness you are alive! Where are you- No, Arisa. Stay away. Please. I shot up my mental walls and felt her surprise. I do not want her seeing what I have become. The longer I am like this as a demon, the more I feed off of anger, the more demon like I become. Right now, though all the odds were against me and I was worried, I was enjoying this fight. I was enjoying the blood and the violence. Using my power to get what I want, it is in my nature and I am finally giving into it after all these years of pushing it back and away. I
Levi shot an arrow in my direction, taking out a demon next to me. I turned to face him. He gestured with his head to the archers. I quickly raised my arm and closed my fist. He signaled to the archers to fire their arrows. I continued in the battle and avoided the arrows as best as I could. It took extra effort on my part to try to avoid the arrows while fighting with the other demons. As time went on, the number of demons in the sky diminished greatly. I was able to go back to swooping down and taking down demons on the ground. The battle waged on. The numbers of both sides was slowly diminishing. There were more humans than demons at this point, but I was not celebrating our victory until my uncle was dead. I searched the ground for him....What? W-where is he? He has to be there.... Maybe I missed him. No, he is not there. He is not
It was silent for a while before Jade finally broke it. "That... was... awesome! I can't believe you did that! I would have been scared shitless!" After that everyone around her cracked a grin. "It is because this guy thinks he is a hotshot since he is the prince and all," Amanda joked. The all chuckled and I smirked. They all knew that was anything but true. "I do not know why you all are so afraid of him, he is all bark and no bite." "How?! He waves that big axe around like it is nobody's business." "Buffoon." Levi muttered the words causing everyone to break out into laughter. After the laughter finally died down, I continued. "He is not so bad, especially for you guys now. What did you think all that trainin
The next morning I could feel the nervousness of the kingdom in the air. Everyone should be evacuating right now except for those few who were fighting. Marcus, turn that brain of yours off, it is way too early to be worrying about the whole kingdom. I chuckled lightly as Arisa's voice played in my head. Sorry beautiful, but I have to get up and worry about the kingdom. Liz was leaving with them today. Just as I got up Liz burst through the door and ran into my arms. "Mark! Tell them I am staying with you! Tell them I am not leaving!" Looking up I saw Arron running in. He placed his hands on his knees and took a few deep breaths. Liz must have made a run for it and I have no doubt in my mind the Arron followed her the whole way through. I smiled at him both gratefully and sympathetically. I squatted down to her height. "Now Liz-" "Oh no, Mark no! When you start like that it is never good. Please Mark, do not make me leave you here to f
When we arrived back to the kingdom, they were all expecting us. "Prince Cziro, it seems your presence is requested in Prince Arron's quarters.""Okay, thank you." I turned to face Arisa, "Can you please put this in my quarters?" I handed her the book. She nodded softly before turning towards the building which houses the royal family. After checking on the team to make sure they have gone to check on any injuries they might have sustained, I went straight to Arron's quarters."You were looking for me." He looked up from the book he was reading. He let out a long sigh before putting the book down."I am afraid we received some news. Apparently the Demon King and his army shall be here by tomorrow morning, earliest. I would have liked a few more days to evacuate my people, but we'll do the best we can. Everyone but those fighting in the battle are going to evacuate before the armies arrive. We should be a safe distance away by the time they arri
"Hey Marcus, what does the book say?" Arisa carefully slide a finger over the binding of the book. I did not really want to read any of it in front of her. I have no doubt that some of the things held within the book may be harsh and brutal. It is for the Demon King of course."It is uhhh... It is for the ritual I will have to partake in when I finally defeat my uncle." She looked over at the book curiously. She reached for it but I pulled it back away from her."Marcus? W-what is wrong?" Her eyes were full of hurt."Arisa, I am sorry, truly I am, but some of the things in within this book are not pretty. I am going to have to do everything in the book, whether I want to or not." She placed her soft palm on my cheek. I closed my eyes and took in her warmth."Mark, no matter what it is you have to do for the ritual, I do not care. I know you are doing this for everyone around you including those whom have fallen victim to bad demons
