Abrar
I was returning home from my office while crossing the foot over bridge at 10 pm. That foot over bridge reminded me of my high school girlfriend Nikhat. We used to go to school and come back together through this bridge. This was the only place where I could hold her hand for a few minutes and she used to blush like a hell. I could only remember those moments and smile like an idiot at that time, a smile of pain.
Suddenly my steps stopped when I saw a girl sitting at the corner. She had rested her forehead on her knees and she was sobbing. I noticed her carefully. She had worn a well-designed salwar suit and her hairs looked silky and well organised. No doubt she was from a noble family. I was clueless about what I should do. Should I call her? Maybe she was in some sort of problem. Or should I ignore because I've heard about a gang of girls who used to rob while pretending to be in danger? I thought a lot about it and preferred to ask her.
"Excuse me?", I came near her and went on my knees. She immediately looked at me. Her eyes were swollen because of crying continuously. She kept staring at me without uttering a single word. " Are you ok? What are you doing here so late?", I asked her.
She didn't reply to me. I didn't find it good to leave a minor crying girl like this. She looked too young.
"You can tell me", I added. She looked at me again and examined me carefully.
"I'm Zoya", she uttered in a heavy voice. I became a little surprised as she spoke up finally. Her intense eyes met mine. I could see her clearly now. She was an average looking brown girl but if you noticed every detail of her face carefully she had an amazing spark into her eyes. Her pinkish lips matched her skin tone completely and her chubby cheeks made her look cuter.
"Nice name", I said, I uttered the most stupid line as I was confused about what I should say to her. "I'm Abrar. Tell me where's your home? I'll drop you", I immediately came to the point.
"I can't go home", she said in a broken voice as she lowered her head.
"Why? Did your parents scold you?", I asked her in surprise. She looked 17-18 years old, I just guessed by seeing her. Usually, this is the reason for most new-adults to leave their homes. She replied nothing. Maybe I guessed right.
"See. I know parents become strict sometimes but that's for our betterment. You shouldn't leave your home like this. At least you have parents. I don't have that too", I explained to her as she looked at me surprisingly.
"You don't have parents?", she exclaimed.
"No", I half-smiled, a smile of pain. "Now let's go. Tell me your address"
"No", she muttered. "They won't accept me"
I got shocked by her statement. What has she done?
"Why?", I asked her.
"Because I have fled from my own home", she sobbed. I couldn't believe that. However, there must have some reasons.
Before I could ask her something she again spoke.
"For Anas", she added.
"Who's that?", I asked though I knew it must be her boyfriend or something. Girls only run away from their homes for their boyfriends whom they are loyal to.
"I love him. We both love each other. My dad doesn't want me to get married to him. He wants me to marry his business partner's son. But I don't wanna. I left a note and....", she sighed.
"Then? Why are you here? Where's he?", I asked being curious. Her eyes filled again but this time she controlled.
"I had been calling him the whole day. He didn't answer. At last, he picked up and told me that he can't marry me. He is too young to get married. He doesn't want to take responsibility", she busted into tears. I became speechless as I had nothing to say to a girl who was just betrayed by her boyfriend.
I let her cry and smiled at her. I didn't know that girls like her actually exist in the world. Wasn't it strange? This girl had left everything for a guy who didn't even ready to take her responsibility whereas my ex-girlfriend Nikhat had left me for her parents even when I was ready to take her responsibility. I wish Nikhat was like Zoya. But maybe Zoya should be like Nikhat. It's not right to leave parents for that person whom you recently met or loved.
"What are you thinking?", she asked me as she stopped crying. I looked at her, she wiped her tears with a tissue paper.
"Nothing. You are ok now?", I asked her.
"Yes", she stopped sobbing and looked normal.
"Give me his number. I'll talk to him"
"He won't agree"
"Let me try for once"
She passed me her phone and I called him on my phone and put it on speaker.
"Mr Anas?", I said as he picked up.
"Yes", Anas replied.
"I'm Abrar. Listen, the thing is I've found Zoya crying near the street. You had asked her to leave her home and now you're not taking her responsibility. At least think about her", I said
"Excuse me? I didn't ask her to do that. And if you're so concerned for her, why don't you handle her?", he spat. I got shocked by his statement. He proved himself a jerk. He was lucky to have a girl like Zoya who left everything for him and he was behaving like a dick. I was about to say some but before that Zoya snatched my phone.
"You bloody moron!", she shrugs. "You don't wanna marry me, right? You don't need to. I'm not dying to marry you. Idiot! Duffer! If you didn't have guts, who told you to make a relationship? Get lost with your fucking attitude, you asshole", she abused him in a breathe and cut the call.
I looked at her shockingly as she busted into tears again. The sudden change in her behaviour surprised me. Her cheeks turned redder that made her look cuter than before. She was still a child who messed-up her life completely after a guy. I waited for her to stop crying. After she controlled herself I looked at her.
"Don't panic. You should be glad that you got to know his reality", I said as she shook her head. I knew somewhere that guy was right. What the hell these two would do after taking this immature step? Both are still very young to understand a relationship. There was no point in getting married at that age.
"Let's go and eat something. Looks like you haven't eaten anything the whole day", I said as I stood up. She too obeyed me and we silently walked away.
We reached a street food vendor and ordered two plates. She ate impatiently. I was right. She hadn't eaten anything for the whole day. Her chubby cheeks looked cuter when she filled her mouth with food. I smiled at her. We quietly finished our food and I went to pay the bills as she stopped me.
"Take the half", she said while handing me half of the bill.
"No. No. That's fine", I tell her.
"You look exhausted. I can tell it by seeing you that you maybe work hard at your job", she looked at me carefully.
I was actually tired and my clothes were old enough to make people know that I'm broke.
"Please take it. If I didn't have money, I wouldn't have given it", she insisted. I was too worried about my meal for the next day as I was going to pay for her too. I preferred sharing the bill to save myself from starving the next day.
"Ok then, let me drop you", I said as we paid the bill. She shook her head and we walked by the road towards her place.
We reached her place when it was 11 pm. Her huge residence was decorated beautifully like a bride. It seemed that she was from a rich family.
"Today was my engagement", she said, lowering her eyes.
"Engagement? Isn't it so soon?", my jaw dropped.
Abrar"Engagement? Isn't it so soon?", my jaw dropped. "No! I'm 26", she uttered. I looked at her in disbelief. She was 26? But she didn't seem to be 26. Her face had still the teenage vibe and girls of her age don't do this kind of stupidity for a guy. "Anas is 23", she added. I understood the whole situation right then why he wasn't ready to get married. I didn't say much to her. "Ok. Go inside and explain everything to your parents. They'll definitely understand", I smiled at her but she didn't move and kept looking at me. "What happened? Go", I told her again. "Come with me please", she requested me, making a tiny face. "M
Abrar"You have 10 seconds to decide. You want your job or not?", she looked at me. "I want but. You can't threaten me", I mumbled. "I can Abrar. Do I show you?", she smirked. "No", I urged. I couldn't lose my job. I needed to survive, to earn my livelihood. She threw me in the toughest situation of my life. I had helped her, in return, she was doing the worst things with me. "Then do what I said", she uttered. She grabbed my hand and locked her arm with mine while walking towards the hall. I was frozen. Within two hours, my life had taken a huge turn which I never imagined. Why did this happen to me? I was happy in my simple life. This kind of mess was not for me. She was talking to some of her guests while I wasn't in senses.
The whole kitchen was messed up. Zoya was standing near the counter covered with flour and the flour container was laying the ground. I looked at her being surprised as she pouted. "Who keeps a flour container on top? It's so high", she said in a baby tone. I couldn't but burst into laughter as I figured out her height and obviously her flour-coated face. I tried to control my laughter but I couldn't. She gazed at me angrily. "Why are you laughing like an idiot?", she shrugged, dusting off the flour from her hairs. I finally stopped laughing when I realised that one container of flour was wasted by her. I was a guy who used to spend money after a lot of calculations. And this was gonna ruin my budget. "Who told you to come to my kitchen?", I said in a blank tone as I kne
I was shocked at the statement. I couldn't explain to them what actually happened as it would raise more questions. "You're getting it wrong. No such incident happened here", I blurted out. "Sharma Ji, you know me well. Right? Why don't you tell them" "What do you want me to say, Abrar. I too heard a girl screaming, that noise came from your apartment", he said. He was right at some point. The way Zoya screamed anyone could get it wrong. "Now move. We need to check your house and rescue the girl", the chairman said. "Sir, please trust me. Nothing wrong happened here", I tried to defend myself. "Then tell us who was the girl? And why she was screaming?", my neighbour shrugged.I had no answer to their questions. If I told them about Zoya I would have to tell them who she was. If I told them she wasn'
"Ok. Ok fine. So, basically, I'm Zoya Ali. And I can do anything. Anything", she repeated the word and snatched the file from me. She walked towards the table and continued her breakfast.I walked towards her and sat on the opposite chair. She ate half of the bread and left it on the plate, then took a sip of her tea. I observed her so carefully that I could see she had a mole on her upper lip and also one on her right hand, next to her index finger. "Seeing me for the first time?", she snapped as I came out of my thoughts. "I was just wondering something", I lied. I was watching her. "What?", she said, taking the next sip. "How did you make that certificate?", I asked her as I took a bite of my toast. "I told you. I'm Zoya Ali", she winked. I swear she was so annoying at some p
"Relax, cool down", Rony spat. I drove my eyes away and focused on work as I was in no mood to argue with him. "At least show some respect", Kaif said to him. "You're dragging his wife in conversation and you want him to cool down? Does that make a sense?" "We were kidding, kaif. Stop being serious all the time", Chhavi frowned at him. "Oh! Is it so? Can I know from when you guys started kidding with us?", Kaif shrugged as I stopped him. "Ignore this kaif. We have a lot of work to do", I instructed him. "Ah! Someone is having an attitude now", Rony barked again. I tried to stay calm the way I used to be. I glanced at Kaif and indicated to keep calm too. "What a player you are, Abrar! Who knew there would be a player behind this decent face? Trapped a rich chick!", Rony spat. I heard all of them laughing
"Who comes to take a shower without bringing clothes?", she repeated those words I told her in the morning and again busted in laughter. "Like you, I'm not used to sharing my apartment with anyone", I shrugged. "Oh! So you roam around your flat, wearing a towel?", she giggled, I could figure out by her words. "Ok. It was my fault. Now, will you please move to your room for a few minutes? I'll have to go to my room", I blurted out. "Fine! I'm going. But do remember this lesson. First, look at yourself then taunt others", she said. I was gonna learn this lesson until she was here. I waited for a few minutes and opened the door to peep outside. She was not at the dining table. I immediately walked out, wearing the towel and rushed to my room. Releasing a deep sigh, I locked the door. Damn! It was so awful. I needed to be more careful from the next ti
I woke up after taking a short nap. Thankfully, my headache is gone. I looked at the clock, I had 1 hour to make dinner. It had been a long time I made tortillas. As a bachelor, I had always preferred a quick meal. I was unsure if I could make proper tortillas or not. Besides, Zoya looked so desperate to eat tortillas which made me nervous.I walked out of my room and checked out Zoya. She was nowhere around the kitchen and her room was locked. Maybe she was inside. I entered into the kitchen and took the container of flour. It was hard for me to knead the dough after a long time. While kneading it I recalled the moment when my granny taught me to make round tortillas when I was 16. After my parents' demise, I had to learn everything to survive. I was the guy who never lifted a glass of water to drink when my parents were alive. Life had taught me every lesson throughout the journey that I made without my parents. Twelve years were enough for me to turn my
Nikhat"He's the photocopy of Abrar", Mrs. Ali says, holding the newborn. After eight months of our marriage, Zoya delivered a cute baby boy. He's a premature baby, indeed but still out of all danger by the grace of God. "Just pray that he gets the same tactics as me. I can't handle two short-tempered creatures", Abrar laughs."Wait! You just wait. Let me get a bit healthier", Zoya shoots him a glare. "You can scream only. What else can you do?" Abrar rolls his eyes."You—"And they continue.I take the newborn in my arms, giggling at him lovingly."First and foremost rule, Mrs. Wife", Kaif whispers near me. "No future planning after this"He's always so scared!"I know right? Stop worrying!" I scowl at him. So many things changed over time but he didn't. At first, he was scared to love someone and get married. Now, he's scared of having a baby. I don't mind it though. It's just a matter of time. I'm happy the way I am.I was promoted to the company with my salary getting doubled.
Nikhat"Are you hungry already?" Kaif asks from behind.I drift my eyes outside and look at him from near the window with a smile. He is munching a subway burger with a tight-lipped smile on his face. "Wouldn't it be better if you had gotten something for me instead of just asking?" I shrug, jumping behind and sitting at the edge of the window."Hey, careful", his eyes widen. "You're gonna fall""I'm used to it", I giggle. "This is not the first time I'm sitting at your window"He chuckles, walking toward me. "Yeah, but definitely you never hoped onto it wearing a lehenga", he scoffs as I stare down at him. He stops just an inch away from me and spirals his left arm around my waist. I shudder with the abrupt contact and lack of distance between us. My heart starts thudding against my chest and my body vibrates when he tightens his grip around me. It's been a year since we were engaged but never before has he touched me this way. I didn't want him to. But if he wanted, I wouldn't ev
Author's POVRuzina goes completely shocked but it doesn't take her much time to understand what is exactly happening. "How wouldn't I come, Mrs Ruzina?" Irtaza chuckles. "After all, the alliance maker should be there?" Zoya presses her lips tightly so she doesn't burst into laughter by watching Ruzina's stunned face. On the other hand, Nikhat gets confused with Irtaza's words."Alliance maker?" She exclaims."We can discuss that later", Zoya jumps into the conversation. "Let the guests in, Nikhat""I'm sorry", she smiles and makes a way for them to get in. As others follow Ridwan and Nikhat inside, Ruzina keeps standing there and gazing at Irtaza."You look stunned, Mrs Ruzina", Zoya rolls her eyes. "Ah, well, let me introduce myself. Zoya Zafar, Irtaza's business partner and your would-be son-in-law's friend"Ruzina curls up her face and doesn't even smile at any of them. Zoya crosses her arms and takes a step toward her, raising her eyebrows."What did you think Mrs Ruzina? Onl
NikhatI have been waiting for the evening the entire day and finally, the moment arrived. Kaif has indeed replied to me with a message which said, "it's fine"The text didn't sound genuine to me at all. Especially when he sent only two words in the reply to my entire paragraph. Couldn't he realise the urgency in that message? I don't know if I'm overthinking. He's not bound to send me a paragraph just because I did. "Nikhat, shall we leave?" Mia asks. "No. I have some work left", I lie. I don't have any pending work. Besides, Irtaza already told us that he doesn't need the whole team today. I should have left. "I thought you were done", Mia roll her eyes."No. I—" I stammer. "I'm yet to complete a few""Okay, then. Goodnight", grabbing her stuff, Mia walks towards the exit. I get back to my desk and look for some work to do. "Nikhat!" Irtaza's voice hits my ear as I look up, finding him walking out of his cabin which is straight in front of me. "You didn't leave yet"I don't kn
NikhatI don't know how to react to this crap. I can only see how hard Irtaza is trying to pass a smile. I know that wasn't expected. And why did he even need to come here just because Ruzina called him? He could have turned her down. He has plenty of work to do. I force a smile and walk toward them. "That was not necessary. Was it?" I mumble, glaring at Ruzina. How can she still smile like that?"I just thought to—" Ruzina strives to say as I walk up to her."Thought to what?" "This is so embarrassing. Why did you do this? He's my boss", I exclaim, whispering near her face.I can't say if she deliberately did that. Why would she anyway?"But he said—" she mutters. "That's called courtesy which he said. And we'll not do that. That's our courtesy", I shoot her a glare. Ruzina frowns at me as if she still can't digest that I'm arguing with her. As I should. I should have done that a long time ago. And now she literally crossed the limits by embarrassing me. What will Irtaza think a
"Okay. What about that?" I ask."Irtaza came there to meet them. They spend an afternoon together", he says and his reactions harden."Okay, so?" I ask even though I have already sensed what it meant. This is something different from any boss and employee relationship. I'm not judging though and I'm not even sure if there's another reason. I bet Kaif also doesn't know the exact reason. He's just assuming. "So? Zoya, can't you understand what that means", he scoffs at me. "That means Nikhat is having a lot of guests. What else?" I roll my eyes. "Stop it, yaar. You—``''why can't you see what I'm seeing?" He yells out of nowhere. "Because I'm not as intelligent as you. Explain to me", I scowl at him. "You can't get, Zoya? Really? Don't you know what it means? In this society, when a guy meets a girl's parents? That guy who likes her. They literally had a meeting, a conversation. Don't you know what it seriously means?" He speaks out of frustration."So!" I mumble.."So!""Yeah. So,
KaifI walk faster. As fast as I could. Through the dark alley. My head literally stops working when I put the pieces of the puzzle of that incident. I don't know why I'm getting so pissed and irritated. He just came to meet.He just came to meet. I kept ranting this to myself until I reached the resort. I feel my breathing getting ten times faster than before. I can hear my groans as I grab the grills of the gate and fum heavily. My body has heated up and I'm unable to calm down anyway. Everything was going so fine. So damn fine. Until she talked about Irtaza being there. I lost it and I didn't want to show how pissed I was, nor could I behave normally. I'm already hiding enough and this will go beyond. Anticipation builds me rapidly, no matter how much I try to console myself. "Sir, I need to close the gate", the security guard says. I glare at him for no reason and storm into the resort, walking as fast as I can.I reach my room and twist the knob. Opening it a bit, I slam the
Nikhat"Nikhat!" He whispers my name but I don't look up. I feel him holding my hand tightly and I hold the edge of the bench. Then I sense him decreasing the gap between us. He uncovers my face, lifting my hair from my cheek and tucking them behind my ear. I can feel him staring at me which makes me blush harder. "Look at me", he leans down to my ear and whispers. I squirm with his warm breath fanning my skin. As I don't respond to his words, he lifts his hand to me and slides two of his fingers across my jaw, slowly nudging my face towards him. I finally look up at him. Our eyes meet. He smiles, peering at me as if he's scanning each detail of my face. I had never been so comfortable with anyone's gaze the way I'm with him. It seems to be pure and peaceful. Most importantly, I love it. He locks his hand with mine and gets closer to my face. Enough closer which forces me to drop my gaze in shyness. "Why do you always steal your gaze from me?" He whispers. "I want you to look
NikhatIt's been a while since I've sat here in the dark alley with Kaif. It's so strange that I have never explored this alley in the last six months but today I did. With him. I'm also a bit concerned about Ruzina and Abbu being in the lodge. They might be wondering where I have been. I'm sure Ruzina is gonna make a fuss about it to abbu as she has always been doing about me. I remember those days when I couldn't be a single minute late to return from school and Ruzina used to complain to abbu, saying I had been disappearing for hours. I can't forget those dreadful days and somewhere I used to believe Ruzina is acting like all the typical mothers as she had made me believe all mothers are like that. I used to think she was strict and wanted the best for me. As I grew up, I realised it wasn't a normal thing. But then, it was too late. Abbu wouldn't believe me if I said anything against her. He used to think I had gone reckless. I never complained for years. Then why at that moment
