Chapter 73

RONAN

Blake's call had totally ruined the mood. He had called announcing the presence of some unwanted guests. People I had personally warned not to step foot into my home.

I led Dahlia to the car, mad with rage. I could feel her question gaze on me but I wasn't in the mood to speak.

Getting home, I found Blake right outside the door.

“Where are they?” I asked.

“The living room.”

I walked in, and there they were, seated cross legged on my couch.

Coming back home and meeting my father and his wife was by no means what I expected today. All I wanted was to come back home, and rest up with Dahlia in my arms.

“Son….” Richard Knight called, I hated to admit it but he is my father. An unfilial and ruthless being who has only fathered me by name. I'd feel more comfortable referring to him as the sperm donor.

“Who let you in?” I asked, my gaze on him.

“We let ourselves in, Ronan. You really think you've gotten rid of us? We've only been away because we wanted to and we h

Chapter 74 DAHLIA Tonight ended in the most unexpected way. I've always heard that Richard Knight was a ruthless and insensitive man. I didn't know it was to this extent. This was my first time witnessing it first hand. Being insulted like this was by no means what I wanted to come home to. At first, I just wanted to remove myself from the Knight's family drama and go upstairs. But when I saw Ronan’s step mother, I knew I had to stay back. If not for anything but to piss her off. That woman had made life a living hell for me. Because of her, I was humiliated and couldn't find a job for years. A real life witch, that's what she is. It happened back when I was a college student. I used to work at an elite boutique. She walked into our boutique that day with a soiled mood and somehow decided to take it out on me. My only offense was correcting her, I had a name tag on and my name was clearly written on it. But for some reason, she thought it would be fun to make a joke out of my na

Chapter 75 DAHLIA I woke up to an empty bed the next morning. Thinking Ronan must have left for work, I went about my morning routine. Once I was done and dressed up for work, I headed downstairs for breakfast. I didn't want to risk running into whoever had been texting me nonstop about Ronan not being what he claims to be. Also, Richard's threat had somehow gotten to me. I wasn't going to just forget about his words. No, I wasn't some female lead in a romance movie waiting to fall into danger and be saved. I'd do everything in my power to stay clear of trouble and make sure I do not need to be saved. That being said, I've also decided I'd carry my lunch time work from home. Sophia can always help me get coffee. And once work hours are over Brandon will drive me back home. Thankfully he was back from the little trip he went on a few days ago. Getting to the dining table, breakfast had already been served, but then something was wrong. It was as if whoever made these dishes didn't wa

Chapter 75 DAHLIA Gavin Bright walked in, a smile plastered on his face. “Hi, Dahlia,” he waved, smiling at me. I stared at him, confused. “What is he doing here?” Looking away from him, my eyes met Desmond's. He was looking at me, then his gaze flickered to Gavin and back at me again. He scoffed, bringing everyone's attention to himself. “I should have known ... .You're wonderful Dahlia. Using your cunt to bag deals. The press will love this.” “It was stupid of me to think you bagged the deal using your husband's influence, when it was clear as day that you've been sleeping around with Mr. Bright here. You've become shameless Dahlia. So shameless that I can't even recognise you anymore. Sophia has been rubbing off on you. You're both disgusting,” he spat. Before I could even react, Gavin and Brandon simultaneously punched Desmond. He collapsed on the floor, eyes closed and unmoving. I gasped. “What have you done?” Sophia spoke before I could even find my voice. “It's

Chapter 76 GAVIN Dahlia is a beautiful woman. The most beautiful woman I've ever seen if I'm to be honest and somehow I felt comfortable around her–something that has never happened before. Comfortable, trust and me were three words that would never appear in the same sentence at once. But with Dahlia involved, I felt it won't take too long before that never turns to ever. Growing up, my childhood was traumatic. I'm not going to go into full details right now. But it was the kind of trauma that would make you want to end your life. I did try to do that a lot of times, but always ended up getting resuscitated and punished for it each time. Everyone saw me as a weirdo and kept their distance. The few I trusted enough to share my predicament with, ratted me out to the one person I dreaded, my father. I got punished each time for trying to tarnish his reputation. I never had any real friends. In fact, as I grew older I realised that every single person I had once considered a friend we

Chapter 78 DAHLIA I've never been interested in knowing my biological father's real identity. When I learnt that Timothy wasn't my real father, I decided I wasn't going to try to find him. He was a bigger scumbag for ever leaving, he's probably worse than Timothy. No sane man will leave his child for years without trying to make any contact. However, the little note attached to his photo stirred something in me. Picking up my phone, I searched my contacts for my mum's number but failed to find it. That was when it hit me, I had deleted her contact after leaving the hospital. She had tried to reach out a couple of times, but I warned her not to contact me anymore, then blocked and deleted her contact. “I'll have to find a way to get her contact later,” I mumbled. Throughout that day, I couldn't focus on work. That little note occupied my mind. If at all the content was true, then it would mean everything I've come to believe these past months were a lie. It would mean I've been li

Chapter 78 DAHLIA To say I was confused would be an understatement. Everything that has happened today almost didn't make any sense to me. After Anita left, I settled down on the bed, confusion clouding my senses. I never sent Brandon to Helixx today, I didn't send Roselle to the ER. Nor did I come back home to change my dress. The only plausible explanation to this is that someone is impersonating me. But who?” Is there someone out there who look so much like me that she managed to fool everyone. Still lost in thoughts, my phone rang. Checking the caller, it was another unsaved number. I almost didn't pick up. But with everything happening, I knew it was best I answer the call. The moment I clicked the answer icon, Desmond's voice filtered into my ear. “What the fuck is wrong with you, Dahlia!” I was completely taken aback by his outburst. “I had nothing to do with your little whore ending up in the ER….” “Fuck, you think I care about that? You think that's the reason I call

Chapter 080 GAVIN Knowing my father, he wasn't going to leave till he finds answers to his questions. I, on the other hand, wasn't going to sit all bloodied, having a conversation with him. So I excused myself despite his protest and headed upstairs. “You caused the injury, you should wait till I get it treated, to give the answers you want,” I told him. Getting upstairs, I already had my live-in doctor waiting to attend to me. Incidents like this isn't new to me. In fact, there was a time it happened really frequently like more than three times in a week. I had a lot of scars and they were all because of the beatings my father subjected me to. At one point, I got really suicidal. Trying to end my life, I never succeeded, instead I end up getting punished for it. “You should really consider tattooing your wrist. You're a CEO now, I don't think you'd want that to be discovered one day and used against you,” my doctor suggested. “I have everything under control, Sophia. You don't h

Chapter 81 DAHLIA “You can't leave this room till I figure out this whole madness,” Ronan stated flatly, looking away from me and heading to the door. “No!” I let out, making him turn around. “Someone is out there impersonating me. Someone who bears my face. And what? You want me to stay here and wait? You want me to stay here and do nothing?!” “I'm not going to indulge you. Till I'm able to confirm who the real Dahlia is…” “The fuck? You can't even recognise your own wife? We've shared the bed for months. Yet you can't even differentiate me from an impersonator?” I was mad. Mad that someone out there was doing things under the guise of being me, more mad that Ronan, the man I've fallen for, the man I was betting my second chance on, the man I was willing to spend the rest of my life with, I was mad that he couldn't even differentiate me from some random woman, whom for some whatever twisted reason there is, bears my face. “I'm trying to help here, Da….” Ronan paused, avoid

How did I end up here?” Dahlia asked. The room fell silent with Brandon and I exchanging glances.“I think you kind of fell down the stairs at DAHL. I found you unconscious at the bottom of the stairs, so I brought you here,” Gavin made the save in that moment of confusion.Dahlia nodded at his words.“Weird, I don't remember that happening…”“Anyways, thank you for saving me Mr. Bright. My husband, here.” she looked at me, let out a smile before continuing. “He would have had a heart attack if anything had happened to me.”“It's my pleasure to help, Dahlia.” Gavin let out a forced smile, looking at me and asking what the hell was going on. I had no idea, so I looked away.At that moment, Ivana’s voice sounded right outside the room, what followed was sounds of multiple footsteps approaching the door.I panicked. Until we actually confirm why some of Dahlia's memories were missing, they shouldn't be

Chapter 91 TWO DAYS LATER RONAN It has been two days since Dahlia got admitted, two days since I last saw any member of the Brights family. Just like Dahlia's father promised, he took everyone one away and not once did any of them come in to try and get me away from her. Her twin, who I'd come to learn deeply cared about her, stopped by each day but would watch us from the door and leave afterwards, without uttering a single word. I've stayed right next to Dahlia's side since I got here, sleeping here, cleaning her up and making sure she was comfortable. I completely forgot I was some hot shot CEO and left Blake to handle everything on his own. My phone was switched off, as I didn't want to take any business calls or whatsoever. My priority was to nurse Dahlia back to her feet and thankfully that seemed to be working out great, but all these did nothing to ease the heavy load on my chest, the guilt that I made her end up here was eating me up every single day. I had dark circles f

Chapter 90 RONAN Walking into the room, Dahlia was laid down, eyes shut. Those eyes that were once full of life were no longer open all because of me. I didn't bother restraining my tears, this time I let them flow. Men cry too. “I'm so sorry,” I took her hand into mine, bringing it to my lips. “I do not deserve you, Dahlia.” I was broken, my heart was wrenching. If I never did what I did, then my wife would probably be home, building a bridge in between the beds. I just had to mess it all up. The sound of the door opening made me turn around, thinking it was Brandon. But it wasn't. Brandon walked in, pushing Donald in a wheelchair. I looked away from them, they were probably here to make me leave. “I'm not leaving my wife, Gavin…” I muttered loud enough for him to hear me. “No one's asking you to leave…” Gavin responded. I turned back in surprise, only to see him walking away. Leaving me with Donald, my father's biggest business rival and the one person that hated the mere m

Chapter 89 BRANDON “Dahlia had a head injury. She suffered a concussion. She is in a coma right now,” I filled Ronan in on Dahlia's medical status. “What?” He let out, completely in shock. “Good news is the coma is a medically induced one. She will be woken up depending on how she responds to treatment….” “How did she even end up here?” He asked. He looked completely disoriented, this would be my first time seeing him this way, somehow I knew I made the right decision bringing him here even though everyone thinks otherwise. “She banged her head twice on whatever caused her to pass out. The impact caused her a brain bleed– which isn't too serious, according to the doctor. Her brain swelled a little. The coma was a last resort to prevent any further damage to her brain. She’ll be woken up in about 72 hours or more. Let's just hope she responds positively to treatment….” I watched him, he was listening, paying attention to every single word. Regret boldly written on his face. “A

Chapter 88 RONAN Watching Dahlia leave broke me. Emotions I never knew I was capable of feeling, flooded my senses. I watched her slam the door, not even turning to look at me once. I messed up, big time. “Fuck!” I cursed, eyes glossy. Whoever put out the belief that men don't cry must not have disappointed the love of their life, they must have not experienced their love walking out of their life. I rose from the couch the moment Dahlia shut the door, running my hands through my hair, I cussed. Not at anyone, but at myself for messing up the one stable relationship I've ever had in my life. For pushing away the one person I knew would have my back through thick and thin. Once I heard the sound of her car getting started outside, I knew it was over. “Are you just going to let her walk away like that?” Blake barged into the living room. Blake who cared about no one but himself, Blake who's never confronted me, did that today. “I don't deserve her,” I found myself answerin

Chapter 87 DAHLIA I found it hard to believe I was just some pawn in Ronan’s grand game. Heck, I thought I was lucky, I thought the universe had given me a second chance at love. But I have never been more wrong. Hearing these things about Ronan made my head ache. I questioned my life, I questioned everything I've known about him. Sitting there and listening to them, I could feel my head beginning to hurt. When they revealed Brandon was my brother, I lost it. Every single person next to me was involved in this lie. I didn't know what to believe again. Turns out I know nothing about myself. I should have known Brandon wouldn't go beyond his way to make me comfortable and protect me merely because he was being paid. The signs had been there, him going out of his way to keep me safe, going on errands unrelated to his job, hating the mere mention of Desmond. I should have known it wasn't just loyalty. “Enough. I've heard enough for one day,” I hushed them all. “I'll be leaving now,”

Chapter 86 RONAN Blake was the one who alerted me to Dahlia holding a press conference. I didn't understand the need for her to do that, to put herself out there, on the spotlight like that. And worse, my father's eyes were now back on her. Knowing him, he'd find a way to turn that conference in his favour and humiliate Dahlia. And so, I ordered for her to be taken off that stage. What I never expected was to come home and meet another Dahlia. I never knew she had a twin. It was my first time hearing such. Not knowing what the so- called twin was after, I got Dahlia locked up in our room and decided to get the lady myself. Somehow, I lost her. It seemed I wasn't the only one after her. When I got home and Dahlia tried to leave, I couldn't let her go, not until I figure this whole thing out But my stubborn woman decided to hit me and flee. When she ran, I knew she'd get exhausted pretty soon and come back, I was so sure of that. But Brandon pulled up from nowhere and helped h

Chapter 85 DAHLIA The room got so serious with everyone's eyes on me, staring, waiting to see my reaction. At that point, I knew that whatever Gavin had to say would change my view on my life so far, it would break me and somehow I knew it might also ruin my relationship with Ronan. But I was willing to listen to put an end to this madness and go ahead with my life. I looked up at Gavin, he was staring at me, pity etched his face. He looked conflicted like he didn't want to be the one to say it. “What are you still waiting for Mr. Bright? Go ahead,” I urged him. He sighed. “I'm sure you already know your ex-husband and his family are scammers?” I nodded, it wasn't news anymore. “Well, the truth is. Desmond Sterlings was paid by Richard Knight to approach you, woo you and get married to you. You totally fell for it.” “What? Chapter 84 DAHLIA Brandon drove me to the Brights mansion. Getting there, the gates were readily opened like they'd been expecting us. I expected some kind security clearance, or something, considering the Brights were a billionaire family, almost on par with the Knights. Brandon drove in and parked the car, then we both got out. There were different men stationed at every part of the property. I expected them to question us but nothing. Instead one of them approached us and led us to the entrance. Brandon and I exchange puzzled glances. But said nothing. The door was pulled open, I walked in, Brandon behind me. I stepped into the huge, vibrant living room, my eyes met Gavin's. He gave me a warm smile. I didn't return it. I looked at the person right next to him. The former CEO of Brights Holdings, Donald Bright, my supposed father. I walked further in, then I felt someone's eyes on me. Turning in the direction of the gaze, I saw myself staring at me. I felt like looking at my
