Isabel’s POV

I locked the bedroom door behind me and pressed my forehead against the cool wood, my breath uneven. My hands were still shaking from the way I had snapped at Liam and Elena.

I couldn’t let myself get close to them again until I had a handle on whatever was going on with me.

The guilt clung to me like a second skin, suffocating and inescapable. I had never raised my voice at them before. What was happening to me?

A soft knock at the door broke through my tangled thoughts.

“Isa?” Emerson’s voice was calm but laced with concern. “Please open the door. We need to talk.”

I squeezed my eyes shut, my fingers curling into fists at my sides. Talking wouldn’t change the way I felt. Talking wouldn’t erase the look of fear on Liam’s face or the uncertainty in Elena’s eyes.

“I just need to be alone,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

Emerson sighed, his frustration evident even through the heavy wooden door. “Isabel, locking yourself away isn’t the answer. You’re upset—I get i

I had a throbbing headache and intense stomach cramps. Where was I? What happened?I suddenly remembered Lilith’s evil smile and hard push, then the painful fall down the staircase. • His Betrayal, His Regret   Chapter 402 - Fractured Senses

Isabel’s POVThe cool sterility of the hospital room made my skin prickle. I sat stiffly on the examination table, my fingers gripping the edge as the doctor studied my latest scan. The faint hum of the overhead lights was the only sound in the room for what felt like an eternity.Emerson sat beside me, his elbows resting on his knees, hands clasped together. He hadn’t stopped watching me since we arrived. His concern was palpable, but it only made my skin feel tighter. As though I were being scrutinized under a microscope. Finally, the doctor turned to me. “Your brain scan looks completely normal. Structurally, there’s nothing concerning.”I let out a slow breath, relief washing over me for a moment—only to be replaced by lingering unease. If my brain was fine, then what was wrong with me?The doctor leaned forward slightly, his voice calm, measured. “You mentioned some adverse reactions since your surgery. Can you describe them?”I nodded. “I recovered well overall. The only lingeri

  • His Betrayal, His Regret   Chapter 401 - A Whisper of Doubt

Emerson’s POVLila stiffened. Her posture was rigid as she clutched the hem of her sleeve between nervous fingers. Her eyes flickered with hesitation, uncertainty warring with determination. “I—I didn’t mean to upset you, Mr. Williams. I just thought you should know,” she said, lowering her eyes in a picture of demure humility.I narrowed my eyes, studying her carefully. Her resemblance to Isabel was uncanny, almost unsettling. At first glance, I had to admit, there had been something striking about her—an allure that was difficult to ignore. But looking closer, something felt off. There was an artificiality to the way she moved. The way expressions flitted across her face like they weren’t truly hers. Her smile, in particular, unsettled me. It never quite reached her eyes, never carried the warmth that Isabel’s did. It was too calculated, too controlled. As if she were mimicking emotions rather than feeling them. And why was she so quick to label Isabel’s condition as mental illnes

  • His Betrayal, His Regret   Chapter 400 - Unsettling Return

Emerson’s POVSeeing Isabel like this felt like the world had split open beneath my feet, leaving me suspended in a void of helplessness. The woman I loved, the woman who had always been a pillar of strength and clarity, was unraveling right in front of me. In another time, another life, I might have noticed the way her nightgown clung to her body, the soft curve of her hips, the gentle slope of her collarbones. I hadn’t seen her like this in… too long. But not now. Not when she looked so fragile. So lost. Her usual radiance was dimmed, clouded by confusion and fear. All I could do was hold her.I pulled her into my arms, wrapping her tightly against me. Her warmth was a balm to the cold panic creeping through my chest. I stroked her hair, just like I used to when we were still together—back when life hadn’t been so full of uncertainties. I tried to steady her. But more than that, I tried to steady myself.“It’s okay, Isa. Don’t force yourself,” I whispered, my voice low, soothing.I

  • His Betrayal, His Regret   Chapter 399 - Not Myself

Isabel’s POVI rushed down the stairs, the cool wooden floor pressing against the soles of my bare feet. The nightgown I’d thrown on clung to me like a second skin. The hem fluttered slightly with each hurried step. The soft, silk fabric did nothing to shield me from the cold evening air. But the chill didn't matter. I had to find out what was wrong with Emerson. Why did he sound so panicked? As I reached the bottom of the stairs, I spotted him in the entryway. The moment I saw him standing there, disheveled and breathless, something stirred deep inside of me.Had I… missed him? No. My emotions had been all over the place lately. This… whatever this feeling was… was probably just a side effect of the medication. His eyes darted around the room with an intensity that made my heart race. When he saw me, a visible shudder ran through him.“Isa!” He gasped my name, his voice raw. The panic in his eyes shot through me like an electric current.“What’s wrong?” I asked, my voice shaky.
