Isabel’s POV

I couldn’t help but smile bitterly as I glanced at Emerson. The man who had already betrayed me. The weight of it crushed me from the inside out.

But my father needed me now. For his sake, I forced myself to swallow the bitter taste of my emotions. “Don’t worry, Dad. Everything will be okay,” I whispered to him, hoping my words held some kind of truth.

I held his hand tightly, squeezing it as though I could transfer some of my strength to him. I had to be strong for him. I had to.

I caught Emerson’s eye, signaling him to cooperate. To show my father the support he needed. I expected him to nod, to act the part of the devoted husband. But when I looked at him, I saw a flicker of something darker in his eyes.

Something wasn’t right.

His jaw was clenched, and his hands were twitching at his sides. He seemed… uneasy, as though he were fighting a war within himself. His gaze shifted to my father, then quickly back to me. His expression was tight with barely controlled anxiet

Isabel’s POVAs soon as the call ended, my mind was racing. Emerson hadn’t been himself all day, and now, hearing Robert mention Sebastian's name again, I couldn’t ignore it anymore. My thoughts swirled, and the questions I had tried to push down resurfaced, demanding answers. My eyes flicked over to Emerson, his grip tight on the steering wheel, his jaw set in that familiar, unreadable way that always made me uneasy.I couldn’t let it go any longer. “Emerson,” I said, my voice softer than I meant it to be. "What happened between you and Sebastian? You've been acting strange all day."He exhaled sharply, a deep, heavy breath, as if he had been holding it for too long. For a moment, he didn’t answer. Finally, his gaze met mine. His eyes were filled with sorrow, regret, and something else I couldn’t place—something darker, more complicated. He parked the car by the roadside and then turned to face me, his eyes never leaving mine. “Sebastian had a condition. Isabel’s POVThe crash came out of nowhere. One second, everything was calm. The next, the world tilted violently. My body was slammed forward, my head jerking against the seatbelt, and my breath caught in my throat. The screech of metal, the deafening impact, the explosion of force against the back of the car—it all happened in a blur. I barely had time to comprehend what was happening before Emerson’s hand was on me. He pulled me against him, shielding me with his body.“Are you okay? Isa?” Emerson’s voice was frantic, his hands trembling as he checked me over. I could feel his heart racing against my back as his arms held me close, protective and firm.I took a shaky breath, trying to calm my racing pulse. “I’m fine,” I managed to whisper, but my voice was tight with fear. I was frightened, yes—frightened by the force of the crash, by the chaos that had erupted so suddenly. The crash had been violent. The car had been jolted forward with such force, I was certain that if it hadn’

Emerson’s POVI watched as Isabel stood frozen. Her golden hair whipped wildly in the wind, framing her face with a sort of elegance that made her seem like an angel caught in the midst of a storm. Her eyes were wide, filled with a mixture of confusion, fear and helplessness. She was struggling, her heart torn between two impossible choices: stay with me or run for her life.I knew what I had to do. I had to let her go. Even though every instinct in me screamed to keep her here. To pull her close, to shield her from whatever danger loomed just around the corner. But I couldn’t. The danger loomed under my very own hand."That’s enough, Isa," I said, my voice cracking despite my best efforts to keep it steady. "I always imagined that maybe I still occupy a small space in your heart. Please go. Liam needs you." My words tasted bitter on my tongue, as if they had been laced with a thousand unspoken regrets. Her gaze flickered, confusion giving way to realization. She hesitated for only a

Isabel’s POV"May I?" I asked, squeezing myself between Emerson and the car door to reach the bomb. My voice was steady, but my heart hammered in my chest. Sweat glistened on Emerson's forehead, his wide eyes flicking between me and the device. “Isabel, this isn’t—”“Shut up,” I snapped, glaring at him. “If you think I’m letting you handle this alone, you’ve underestimated me. Now move.”Emerson hesitated but stepped aside reluctantly, his hands trembling as they hovered protectively near me. I could hear Sebastian’s clipped voice coming through the phone, barking instructions.“Alright, Isabel,” Sebastian said, his tone surprisingly calm despite the stakes. “You’ll see a bundle of wires near the central panel. The yellow one is the trigger line. Whatever you do, don’t pull it.”I leaned closer, my fingers brushing the cold metal as I followed his directions. Sweat slid down my temples, stinging my eyes. I focused on the wires, each one a potential death sentence if handled wrong.“Ca

Isabel’s POV“Thanks, Sebastian… for everything,” Emerson said quietly, his voice unusually humble. He ended the call and stared at his phone, his brow furrowed. His pensive silence unnerved me. “What is it?” I asked, though I wasn’t sure I wanted to know the answer.“How did Woods get through to my phone?” Emerson muttered. He tapped the screen as if searching for an answer. “It’s highly secured.”A chill swept through me. If Victor—or whoever was behind the masked man—had the means to bypass Emerson’s sophisticated security, then we weren’t just dealing with petty criminals. This was something bigger. Something darker.I crossed my arms, trying to mask the unease settling in my stomach. “Maybe they’re watching us more closely than we think.”He glanced up at me, his expression hardening. “That’s what worries me.”We didn’t speak much on the drive back to the hospital. My mind churned with questions, fears, and the nagging sense that our luck was running out. Could we evade this shad

My voice was firm, but I knew it was laced with desperation. He turned away, his jaw set, and continued to speak with my father anyway. “Mr. White, it’s Emerson,” he began, ignoring my protests. My pulse raced as I tried again to snatch the phone. But he was faster, moving just out of reach.“Emerson!” I hissed. “Don’t do this. He’s barely recovered. It’s not fair to put him in this position.”He glanced at me, his expression torn but resolute. “Isa, I know how much this antidote means. I’ve already spoken with Robert. Your father’s recovery has been remarkable, and the test wouldn’t harm him. He’s strong enough to handle it, and this could save your life.”I froze, his words hitting me harder than I’d anticipated. A flicker of understanding tried to seep in, but my anger and fear burned too brightly. “You can’t make that decision for him—or for me!”Emerson didn’t respond to my protests,

Isabel’s POVA month had passed. One whole month, and still, no sign of life from Emerson. The machines beside his bed beeped steadily. A monotonous rhythm that I had come to know too well. A rhythm that seemed to mock the stillness of his body. I sat by his side every day, watching him, praying for some miracle—some sign that he was still there, still fighting. But each time I whispered his name, there was nothing. Nothing but the soft hum of hospital machinery.“Emerson,” I whispered, my voice trembling despite my attempts to sound steady. “Don’t you want to be with me? If you wake up, I promise we can live happily as a family of four.”I meant it, every word of it. The thought of a future with him, of raising our children together, was the only thing that kept me going. I needed him to hear me. I needed him to wake up.But Emerson remained unresponsive. He looked like a prince charming, trapped in an eternal dream—strangely peaceful. I combed his dark hair back neatly after gently

Isabel’s POVMy wrists ached from the tight ropes binding my hands behind my back as I was shoved forward. The rough ground beneath my boots felt unsteady, my knees weak with exhaustion. The air smelled of blood, gunpowder, and sweat. The night was still alive with distant gunfire, but here, in the heart of the enemy’s grasp, there was only the sound of my ragged breathing and Alistair’s mocking laughter.“Stop resisting, Emerson,” he drawled, his voice filled with smug amusement. “You’re in over your head. Oh—look who finally decided to join us.”Emerson was holding back several opponents, bruised and bloodied from the fight. His head snapped up at Alistair’s words. He turned, and when his eyes landed on me, something in his face shifted. Shock, then rage, then a devastating kind of fear. He lunged forward, but a guard was faster. A rifle butt slammed into Emerson’s ribs. The sickening crack echoed in the night, and he crumpled to the ground, gasping for air."Emerson!" I screamed,

Isabel’s POVAt first, Emerson and I managed to escape the building, slipping into the shadows like ghosts. The night was thick around us, swallowing our hurried footsteps as we navigated through the wreckage of Alistair’s camp. The distant gunfire and shouts of battle echoed behind us. But just as we reached the edge of the compound, the world seemed to shift. From the darkness, figures emerged—silent and predatory, their weapons gleaming under the pale moonlight. They moved like shadows given form, their presence an unspoken promise of violence. My breath caught in my throat as a dozen, no, more than two dozen enemies surrounded us, blocking every escape route. The sheer hatred in their eyes sent an involuntary shiver down my spine. These weren’t just guards; they were fanatics, men who thrived in the chaos of bloodshed and terror.Emerson moved instinctively, stepping in front of me, gun raised. “Stay close,” he murmured, barely audible over the wind. I nodded, steadying my grip

Sebastian/Elias’ POVScarlet’s scream echoed through the dimly lit room, raw with disbelief and fury. “You’re lying!” she spat, her eyes blazing with denial. The restraints binding her wrists rattled as she struggled, but I didn’t move to stop her. There was no point—her fight wasn’t with me. It was with the truth.I let out a slow breath, pulling a small, timeworn pocket watch from my coat. The silver casing had dulled over the years, but the engraved initials remained clear. I clicked it open and held it out to her, revealing a faded family photograph inside.“My father gave this to me before he died,” I said evenly, my voice softer than before. “He cared about you, Scarlet. No matter what you believe, you were never forgotten.”Her breath hitched. For a moment, the fire in her eyes flickered, replaced by something rawer—uncertainty. “How could it be?” she murmured, barely more than a whisper. All the pieces had finally clicked into place as Scarlet unraveled her story. But when I overheard them denying my very existence, something inside me snapped.Disheartened, I had returned to the countryside, burying myself in my studies. Medicine became my refuge, my salvation. I dedicated myself to understanding the human body—not just how to heal it, but how to manipulate it, how to break it. My hands, once weak and trembling from years of frustration, became steady, precise instruments of control. The first time I killed a lab mouse, something dark and exhilarating bloomed inside me. Elias’ POVI watched from the shadows as Isabel and Emerson disappeared into the night, their figures swallowed by the chaos of battle outside. I clenched my fists and tried to push down the sharp, aching weight that settled in my gut.Maybe it had been foolish to think I ever stood a chance with Isabel. Emerson had always been the one she turned to in the end. The one she trusted in the heat of battle. The one she looked at with that fierce determination in her eyes. And me? I was just a shadow lingering on the edges of her world, never quite stepping into the light.A slow clap echoed through the dimly lit room."Are you just going to let them go?" Scarlet’s voice slithered through the shadows like a snake.I turned away from the exit, my expression unreadable as I faced the woman bound to the chair before me.
