Ash was frowning at his phone. He typed out a message, thumbs flying, and then waited, fingers tapping the back of the couch impatiently.

He is angry, really angry.

They were supposed to be having family time. Alex was on the floor with Adom and a bucket of blocks, building towers so that Adom could gleefully knock them down. But fifteen minutes ago, Ash phone had buzzed, and he’d been on the couch texting ever since.

Adom didn’t seem to have noticed. He was having fun, so Alex stayed and played with him, but he couldn’t help shooting Ash the occasional concerned glance.

“Quit that,” Ash said, absently, the fourth or fifth time Alex did it.
