"Queen Carina's death is not accidental nor a coincident. Her death is a joyous event for Maverick. He, for so long had set to take Carina's life. No. not her life, but, Goddess Athena's descendant's life." Liliane lifted her head, and her hooded eyes come in contact with Jae Woon's surprised look and Seiran's disbelief expression.
"Goddess Athena's descendant? You mean Danial is...?" Seiran almost choked on her biscuit when she heard the shocking news from her mother. "I thought, the story about Goddess Athena is only a myth. a legend of our empire, being passed down from one descendant to another for learning purposes?"
" You should probably aware, legend also had a solid background story behind them, Ran," Liliane responded. "The story is passed down from one generation to another generation because they hold some truth in them. A legend is not a baseless story without any evidence in supporting its authenticity."
"By descendant, you mean my mother is the direct bloodline of Her?" Jae Woon asked. There's something he needs to confirm.
Liliane nodded her head.
"Yes, your great-great-grandparent, from the maternal side, is the Goddess's only child. Her name is Serafina Sawyers. She is the most powerful light magic in the entire continent, with the ability to foresee the future. She married a human male and since then had been staying in the lower realm together with her family. You see when Lona said Queen Carina will give birth to a boy, both of us were surprised."
"Why?"
"Her descendant is always a female. From the first generation until Queen Carina, were all-female that soon inherited powerful light magic and an immeasurable source of Mana. Although, the ability to foresight the future is rarely gifted to them. Your mother didn't have that ability, but she could only perceive certain events that might or might not happen through a dream. It's always like that. That's why she required Lona by her side. Then, Lona proclaimed this, a month before your birth, Sire."
"Oh, what did she said?" Jae Woon curiously probed. He never thought that someone with a humble background (Humble?-Mochi raised his brows-He is royalty. No ordinary person could have that kind of powerful background.) like Danial, to have the blood of goddess in his vein. This story is getting more interesting at this point. What kind of big secret will unfold later on? He wondered.
(What are you? A reader enjoying the front seat of an exclusive preview?)
Jae Woon ignored Mochi and focused his attention on Liliane.
"Lona had warned her. Once her enemy knows about her child's identity, they will come for him and kill him. Queen Carina is worried for her child's safety, so she raised the protective barrier around the palace's perimeter to its maximum level. She realized, Maverick had been trying to breach her defensive barrier so many times but failed in doing so. However, he still hasn't given up."
"Wait a minute. Something hasn't added up here. I know I was born during the night but, how come everyone knows about it? I heard the rumors around the palace. If the tragedy didn't occur that night, they might be celebrating the festive night with delight. So, I am not supposed to be born like this? My birth is actually a joyous event worth celebrating?"
"Well, of course, Sire. You are the first prince of our kingdom. Everyone is overjoyed with the news when the Queen is diagnosed pregnant by the healer. Although, mostly this is due to Lona's proclamation."
"Ah, the one you had mentioning previously?"
"Because of her words, everyone was eagerly waiting for the princes' arrival. Including the Emperor."
Seiran and Jae Woon realized a piece of crucial information from Liliane's sentence just now.
"Princes? As in plural? How come...?"
"Danny had a twin out there? This is shocking news. How come I never heard this before, mother? Where is he? The other twin?" Seiran interjected. Her eyes twinkled in excitement.
Jae Woon shook his head in disdain. This girl...At the very least, please let him finish his question first.
"Lona said this, the both of you will be born during the night of the full moon, where the sky is starless, and the moon shone the brightest. You and your twin are the Goddess' greatest gift for her faithful followers. You guys are destined to do many great things and lead the Grandia Empire to its prosperity. The Emperor was elated with the news as he is blessed with powerful heirs to protect his kingdom."
"Mother," Seiran whined. She pouted as her mother deliberately ignored her query. She wanted to know Danny's twin's whereabouts! "You haven't answered my question."
Liliane sighed in resignation. Should she continue her story herein? Could they accept the truth wholeheartedly? Will they both understand her action then for purposely concealing the truth? She tucked her stray hair behind her ear and always touching her earlobe. This tic earned a chuckle from Jae Woon. They do resemble one another. Seiran likes to do the same whenever she felt nervous or distracted. Like mother, like daughter, huh?
"What I am going to tell you is the truth of the tragedy that happened eighteen years ago. The Emperor forbids anyone to tell the tale from that night to the younger generation. This is a secret that shouldn't be spilled to anyone else. Only the survivor of the fateful night knows the truth. One word about that night could lead you to your doom. I saw many were severely implicated and punished for running their mouths wildly about the taboo matter. Will you guys promise me to keep the truth? Until you guys are strong enough to protect yourself, you're prohibited from recklessly took any improper action. Please?"
"I will." Jae Woon and Seiran simultaneously said. Giving her their assurance.
"Then..." Liliane took a deep breath and said in a somber tone. Her detached and melancholy expression is undoubtedly making anyone who sees her bounded to be nervous and curious. "This story started on that fateful night, eighteen years ago..."
----------
Flashback. Liliane's monologue.
Queen Carina's Royal Chamber.
In there, a beautiful woman with long silver hair that reached her hips is sitting comfortably in front of the balcony, contemplating in silence. She had the most enchanting amber-like eyes, with long eyelashes that flutter lazily, giving an effect of a lazy Persian cat on a rest, her cute small button-nose, and a pair of luscious lips. Her white nightgown is tightly accentuating her superb figure. Although, she is heavily pregnant at this time. She is caressing her bulged stomach tenderly. The smile never once left her pretty face as she is whispering something to her unborn children.
"Carina? What are you thinking about?" Liliane appeared beside her, with her daughter in her arms. Liliane looked younger in this version, and her innocent face could never hide the gleam of mischievousness in her eyes. She sat on the empty seat and joined her best friend in enjoying the night scenery outside. The moon is shining brightly on the sky, with the appearance of twinkling stars around it. The night breeze is blowing softly, and both of them are relishing the chilling and serene atmosphere with pleasure.
"Hi, Lily." Carina had just realized her arrival as she is in deep thought. "Where is Light?"
"Taking care the other three troublemakers. Serve him right. I only brought my lovely Seiran with me. Isn't it, Ran?" Liliane cooed at her daughter. Seiran blinked her adorable big eyes at her mother, making Liliane squealed in awe. Her Ran is the most cutest girl in the world. No one can surpass her cuteness.
"I envied of you, Lily. You just 28 years old, and yet you had three boys around you and one lovely princess. While I am waiting for mine, anxiously." Carina solemnly said.
"Are you worried about Lona's warning?"
"Uhuh. I also keep getting nightmares these days." She closes her eyes. The vivid images of her nightmares flashed by her mind. A dark and tall shadow is creeping out from under her bed. It's slowly approached her with a wide grin on its smoldered face. Its nails are long and sharp. Carina trembled in fright as she remembers its dangerous glints, full of vengeance and malice towards her. That shadow tried to touch her stomach while cackling boisterous laughter. Its laughter resounding in her dim-lit room, and Carina jolted up from her sleep, screaming in horror and fear.
Her husband, Alex is immediately hugged her to calm her nerve. Carina is sweating profusely, with her back is drenched in a cold sweat. She felt breathless. Alex took ten minutes to restrain her futile struggling as Liliane couldn't relax. Once she is calm enough, she burst into tears. Alex was stupefied by her odd reaction, yet he dismissed it as her unstable emotion due to pregnancy.
"I felt, this time, rather than aiming to take my life, Maverick had another ulterior motive, Lily." Carina stopped caressing her stomach. She puts her palm on one spot and felt a soft kick on it. She somberly smiled. "He wants to rob my child from me and kill the other one. There this nagging feeling at the back of my mind keeps warning me with this possibility."
Liliane's jaw dropped.
"For...for what reason? And, no...I mean...you can predict the future? I thought you cannot do that?"
"No, silly," Carina responded. "I cannot. I am not that powerful. My mother might be, although only a portion of them. It's just my gut feeling, and it is warning me through my dream. By appearing in my nightmare. This is to show me the severity of the sudden possibility."
"Should we ask Lona again?" Liliane stretched her hand and gripped Carina's hand. She tried to convey her support by her action, assuring her that her friend is still here, by her side.
Carina chuckled. Lily always worried about her. From their childhood until this day, Lily always had a crease on her smooth forehead. She will always be gazing at her with a brooding look. Carina lightly pats her hand using her free hand.
"There's no need. Lona is a seer. If she saw something in her vision, she already tells us by now. Besides, I am okay, Lily. Please don't turn yourself into a fretful old lady by now."
"You still had that potty mouth, huh?"
"You are the one who has a potty mouth, Lily. Not me."
Liliane tsked in her seat.
"Sometimes, you're annoying. Other times, you acted like an angel. No, an angel in disguise only. If someone knows your true character, they might exclaim in shock."
"Thank you for the compliment."
"Who's the one compliment you?!"
Hi. Author's here. Are you enjoying the story so far? Please leave me your reviews and tell me whether this story is good enough to be your cup of tea or not. Thank you. Have a nice day.
Deep in the dark, thick forest, there stood a shaded and mossy building, fenced with heavy black gates. The exterior looked abandoned and lonely. Inside the enormous place, it's held only a few essential pieces of furniture such as a deep red comfy couch, a round table made up of fragile glass, and two wooden chairs at either side of the table. The dimmed place is being lit up by several torches on the walls. The mansion is desolate from any human being. There is one lonely figure sitting on the couch. The man is staring outside of the balcony, with his sword-like brows furrowed in rage. The man has tousled, long black hair surpassing his broad shoulder and a pair of piercing scarlet eyes. His moist lips tugged into a sinister smile as he is remembering something funny from the past. He had a fit and muscular stature, despite wearing a large cloak around his body. His long and slender legs are crossed lazily on the couch, with his arms is resting on the couch handle. He
The big torrent of fire soared high to the starless night sky, brutally swallowing everything on its path. Thick dust and hazy smoke ran rampant upon the street. Civilians are running away in fear, begging and pleading for anyone to help them. The cries of grievance echoing from all directions. The sight is too gruesome. Burned and charred remains, limbless bodies, and decapitated corpses are scattered on the ground. Hell has broken loose. The once beautiful Grandia has no longer existed. This is a pure catastrophe. Liliane cast a spell on the ghouls that chasing after a group of children. Her ice attack swiftly pierced those monsters in one deadly attack. Deafening screams from those ghouls reverberating in the air, before silence finally ensued. "Are you guys okay?" She worriedly ask
Recap of the previous chapter. Hell had broken loose in the Grandia Kingdom. Those malevolent creatures from the underworld under the command of Maverick had attacked and slaughtered the civilian in just one deadly night. Rather than slaughter or mass murder, it was more fitted to call these tragedies a total human annihilation. ----------- Maverick threw a disgusted look on the other twin, who is staring at him from the big bed, warped in a blanket. The older twin never once cried. Instead, his brown doe eyes curiously scanning the man in front of him. As if he is etching Maverick's profile deep into his brain. The older twin had the same hair color as his mother, the color of untainted snow. The one who inherited Athena's blood can be identified through their hair. Which explained Maverick's intense hatred towards him. As expected, this boy is his enemy that needs to be pulverized before he reaches adulthood. He needs to k
Flashback ended. Liliane wiped her tears away. "Too many people lose their lives that night. The Emperor went ballistic once he realized that his beloved Queen died, his oldest son in such miserable condition, while his youngest son is missing. He loses control over his magic due to his grief. On top of that, the death of his best friend, Zarack, slapped him hard on the face. The Emperor started to change for the worst. He treated his child harshly, pushing all the blame on you. Until this day, his hatred towards you never recede. The rumor about you also played a significant role in exponentially increasing his dislike. For anyone who showed pity towards you, or defending you, will be severely punished by him. Anyone who talked about the incident also got exiled to the Dark Forest for
Jae Woon clears his throat after he had managed to calm his raging hormone and a particular issue down below. His cheek still had faint tints of pink hues. Nevertheless, he intends to ignore his body's needs and focus on the crucial problem."Please-cough-describe the curse. My mother must have told you something about the upcoming war and curse.""I only know the curse will strike on the kingdom the moment you reached 18 years old. And, it will become worse after this point if the Emperor refused to stop his tyranny. Carina also said this in her letter. She keeps reminding me to help and assist you in the upcoming war. The Great War will happen sooner or later between us and the Maverick faction. That's all." Liliane honestly replied. "Although, she never pinpoint what kind of curse will befall on us."
I know it's a bit too late to say this. From this moment onward, Jae Woon will be known as Danial. ------------ Sean and Julian flared with envy at the loving interaction between their sister and the stranger. Who the fuck is this man?! How could he touch Ran's beautiful hair with that dirty hand?! "Who the fuck are you?!" They both seethed with anger. They are already in attacking position, with their weapon are sheathed out from their confinement and pointing toward Danial. "Ran, back off! Don't let that strange person touched you!" Seiran dismally rolled her eyes. Here they go again. Every time a creature named a male approached her, they will act as childish as a mentally-retarded child. She is tired of their over protective
Seiran is still fuming with anger. She refused to speak with her two older brothers, Sean and Julian. She treated them as an invisible wall during their dinner time. Seiran didn't even spare a glance at their pitiful expression. Due to their harsh action toward Danial, they were ignored by their lovely sister in return. Carina elegantly eats her dinner, only spoke a word or two with her husband. Other than that, silence is followed at the dinner table. Arthur, however, keeps looking at Danial with a frown on his face. He observed the other man with so much intensity that Danial started to feel uncomfortable. As if Arthur's blue-oceanic orbs tried to peer deeper at his soul, searching for something. He only retracted his gazes when Seiran coughed twice. She
The palace is enormous and divided into five wings. Each wing is painted and integrated with the color corresponding to its particular name. Every person working inside the palace building had their outfits immaculately emphasize which department they worked at, aside from their token pass. The Emerald Palace is consists of central offices, meeting halls, and other governmental buildings. Ministers and the high-ranking officers had a token in the form of a laminated pass with an emblem of their respective workplaces. These cards are made up of thick paper with powerful magic imbued in them. These tokens are a necessary item to bring before you can enter the palace ground. They served as a key with your personal identification in them. Every main checkpoint in the palace is supervised by a high-ranking guard from t
The silence was unsettling. From a distance, someone can even hear the sound of dropping a pin onto the floor. The Bronze Pavilion became eerily quiet despite the palace crowding with people. The sudden drop in temperature, the unexpected coldness that froze out everything in its path, and the heavy pressure of tremendous Mana shrouded the place, all of this happened due to one person. The culprit who caused such disturbance casually leaned his body on the wall with his arms propped on the handrails. He looked at the kneeling humans, and some even groveling on the floor. Those people got denied the right to raise their heads by the oppressive force radiating from Danial's body. The piles of humans scattering before him kept groaning and whimpering in pain. They begged with their heads on the floor for the prince to let them off the hook.Danial said nothing. He neither felt pleasure nor guilty witnessing this scene.Instead, the brown pupils kept glowing, and the pair of irises turned
It took a whole hour for the chaotic situation from before to calm down completely. The injured were sent to the hospital while Princess Natasha refused her maid's help and threw an unwarranted tantrum. She kept yelling and unreasonably lashed her anger toward the innocent maid and blamed everything on her. With her mess-up appearance, she looked like a deranged person. Her beet-red face turned several times darker when her eyes which drifted towards Danial, had unfortunately aligned with his line of sight. She felt embarrassed, and she had never thought of such a humiliating situation occurring to her upon encountering this handsome stranger.Danial tilted his head and chuckled humorously. He seemed to laugh at her miserable condition.Natasha felt a pang of sadness inside her heart, albeit the giddy feeling overwhelmed her more. That by any means, the handsome stranger had noticed her presence. He would recall her face every tim
Present time.Sofia changed her outfit into a presentable one.She is completely engrossed in her gardening duty and often neglects her appearance. At the very least, when seeing Danial, she must look outwardly alright, or he might think of her as a gardener pretending to be a palace concubine. After a while, she rushed towards the Prince Pavilion, leaving behind her palace maids. She needed to deliver the thing that Carina entrusted to her. There was no way she would keep quiet any longer. Keeping a secret is a hassle and cumbersome thing. For eighteen years, she had a restless sleep and often had insomnia. That woman had not only burdened her with an unbelievable request. She also insisted on her telling him the truth. And, despite the unwillingness to do what she instructed, Sofia decided to confide everything to Danial, letting him determine his own fate. She had a feeling that Danial knew what Carina was hiding from the rest of th
"I said that my time has come." Carina calmly repeated the words. She lifted her hands, making the quote and unquoted gestures. "The ending of my life is just around the corner." A bolt of thunder seemed to strike Sofia as she stared unbelievably at Carina. She was speechless at her revelation. Did she mishear it? Seeing Sofia's dumbfounded face, Carina patted her cheek to make her soul come back to reality. "What? Could you repeat it?" Sofia blinked her eyes, her head tilted awkwardly as her round eyes stared at Carina in disbelief. She could barely hold back the snort that bubbled at the back of her throat. "I seemed to mishear your words?"
Eighteen years ago. Two months before the tragedy happened. In the Imperial Garden, during the night. The Imperial Garden brimmed with the vitality of nature, as lush of greenness spread as far as eyes could see. Colorful flowers and plants bloomed and flourished, creating a breathtaking scene under the serenity of the night. On this night, all the living beings in the garden were very energetic with the additional help of Carina's light magic. The plants energized and exuded more fragrances, filling the air with crisp and mellow scents. Carina was not alone. The small animals willingly participate, hurdled together in an inconspicuous corner, some well-hidden and some were not, accompanying her. Their appearances add layers of
Shadow Guard number six, whose name is akin to the master of infiltration, Wind Master. His nickname is Sixth. He served the Emperor as his personal bodyguard, alongside their leader, Master Art. Sixth's duty alleviated to be the Imperial Prince's bodyguard as soon as the young prince learned to walk by himself. His coworkers teased him that the Emperor was angry with him and demoted his rank to supervise the hated and ill-bringer prince, The First Prince, Prince Danial. Initially, he also thought so. The Emperor loathed his son and unceremoniously abandoned him to the farthest place within the palace. The palace was the Cold Palace. The young prince at that time was only five years old. He knew nothing and was still green about everything, especially
Danial entered his pavilion. He casually surveyed his surrounding with an expressionless face. He strode along the magnificent hallways with the shadow guard trailed behind him. The whole place seemed to paint in white. Only the curtains, the ornaments, and decorations were in different colors. The floor beneath is made of glossy wood. The surface seemed translucent and glistened when the light reflected on them. When you stepped on them, the footstep reverberated across the peaceful residential palace. In the center, there is a pond with a beautiful fountain. The Kois swam with great vitality, splashing the water around and sometimes creating waves after waves. The pond separated the palace into two parts and sturdy black fences barricaded around it. To the left side, you will reach the Prince's residence. And, to the right side, you will be entering the princesses'. At this time
Danial arrived at the outskirt of the Main City when the sun had spread its comfortable and soothing light on the boundless horizon. He left The Knight Residence when the dawn itself was welcomed by the world. The bright sunshine shone above him with its warm light. The sky is clear, and the weather for today is as spectacular as yesterday. The beautiful ambiance is befitting for anyone to take a stroll with family or friends, leisurely spending time together. Danial strode over the bridge, walking in a steady gait while evading the rush of upcoming carriage from his front. The luxurious carriage bypassed him in a flash, and he managed to catch a glimpse of a slender hand that lifted the white curtain. The long, golden hair shimmered under the sun as a head peeked outside the carriage's window. Danial scrunched his nose, left in a daze and astounded. The remaining nostalgia feeling of the good old days hit him on t
The rest of the family forced themselves to enter their rooms under the warning glare of Seiran. Although unwilling, the sibling reluctantly dragged their feet upstairs and obediently locked their doors, including Duke Arklight. The man was forcibly half-dragged and half-walked by his wife. Lady Liliane finally lost her temper and pulled her husband's right ear. She glowered, expressing her fatigues and sleepiness, and Duke Arklight relented. He kept sending a fierce glare towards Danial, who politely nodded his head in response. Duke Arklight felt that his vein was throbbing as he was infuriated by Danial's reaction. Before he could say anything, Liliane drilled both of her knuckles on her husband's temples. "Mercy! Darling, it hurts!" He wailed.
