I tried my best to keep my hands from shaking as I put the last book on the shelf. My heart was racing and having Higan's eyes on me wasn't helping.
I wondered if there was something weird with my outfit but I knew that that was an excuse to keep my mind away from Higan. The book almost slipped from my hand but I caught it on time.
"You okay?" Higan asked from behind me.
I let out a nervous laugh. "Yeah." I put the book on the shelf and turned to face him. "All done."
"Let's get going then."
"No way," I argued. "We haven't talked about what's been bothering you."
He chuckled. "You're so stubborn."
I crossed my arms over my chest. "My mom says that people who are easily swayed die early."
"Fine," he said with an amused grin. "But don't get all pity party on me."
"I won't."
His smile dropped and he looked at his feet for a moment. It was as if he was mentall
×Jamie×"Where are you going anyway?" Darcy asked as she rolled over to her stomach."I'm not sure yet," I answered, turning to look at the girl laying on my bed, but Marcy held my jaw and made me face the front."No moving," she said sternly and continued to work on my hair."Are you sure that this guy isn't secretly shady and is planning to kill you and dump your body somewhere?" Darcy continued firing me with questions.I scoffed. "He isn't.""What makes you so sure?""Well, I see no reason for him to kill me and he's just not that kind of person."When my sisters found out that I was going out today, they were excited and insisted on helping me get ready. I was used to seeing Darcy bring hyper but having her twin join in was a change that I loved seeing. Marcy probably looked forward to it more than I did.I also told Mom about me spending the night with Higan and she
×Jamie×We said our farewells to Nico before rushing out of the club. The drive and elevator ride to Higan's apartment was torturous and felt painfully slow as we tried to keep our hands to ourselves before reaching his room. Was it okay to want someone this badly? My body ached to feel him on me and I couldn't properly wrap my head on what was happening. I barely drank the cocktail that I was given earlier so, I was sure that I wasn't drunk. The elevator doors finally slid open and Higan grabbed my wrist and pulled me into the hall, almost bumping into an older woman who was making her way into the elevator.I muttered a quick apology to her and followed him until we stopped in front of his door. He unlocked it and we got in, me entering first as he locked the door behind us.As soon as Higan turned to look at me, we were back into each other's arms as we shared passionate kisses while our bodies burned with d
×Jamie×I zipped up my pants and buttoned them up before looking at my reflection in the mirror in front of me. I had worn the clothes that I had brought with me earlier and as much as I liked the long sleeved white t-shirt that was paired with my light grey shorts, I had one problem with it.The shirt couldn't cover the two hickeys that were on my neck. I furrowed my brows as I wondered what I would do about it. Despite promising to be home early, it was past one in the afternoon and I had to leave.I took a shower after having brunch while Higan cleaned up in the kitchen. It felt so homey and comfortable that I honestly wanted to stay longer. knowing my mom, she definitely wouldn't have that so I threw those dreams in the trash."What are you looking at?" Higan asked as he walked out from the bathroom.I looked at him through the mirror and gulped when I noticed that he only had a towel wrapped around his waist. His hair
×Jamie×"That's it for today. Don't forget to study for next week's quiz and all assignments are to be handed in before 4pm," Mrs. Brown announced, adjusting the round glasses that rested on the bridge of her nose. "Don't make me remind you."This was followed by numerous murmurs from the class as some people went forward to hand in their assignments in advance while others left as fast as they could.I already handed in my assignment earlier in the week so, I packed my books and stationery as I waited for the flood of students to clear. My weekend was amazing. On top of spending the night with Higan, my sisters and I went to the mall. Mom didn't pry and took everything well. She didn't bring it up yet and as much as it was a good thing, I couldn't help but feel like I was walking on eggshells.I hated it. This was a good thing and I was supposed to focus on the positive, but things were going too good th
×Jamie×Wednesday came in the blink of an eye. Only having one class today, I spent most of my time in the library until it was time to leave for the picnic. Natalia made sure to remind me through a text and even if she didn't, I wouldn't miss it.I nervously stood in front of Higan's car as I waited for him to arrive. He had already sent me a text, saying that he would be down in a few minutes.Looking up to check my surroundings, I immediately spotted him making his way to me. This is probably a late realization on my part but Higan was pretty popular. He attracted everyone's attention and it did not take a genuis to figure out why."Hi," Higan greeted with a soft smile when he was close."Hi," I greeted back, although my eyes couldn't meet his."Sorry for the delay. Did you wait long?" I shook my head while he walked to the other side of his car and unlocked it. "Get in."I did as I was told and Higa
×Higan×I picked up the empty chip packets and bowl, that previously had a fruit salad in it, from the carpet before going into the kitchen. Discarding the mess in the trash and the bowl in the sink, I went back to the living room.Five minutes ago, I was deep into a game that I started playing a few minutes after I came back from the picnic. Sleep soon caught up to me and retiring to bed was what my body sang hymns for at this point.I got my phone from the sofa and pressed the power button. I looked at the time and was surprised to see that it was almost midnight. It's weird how fast time flies when you are doing something unproductive. The doorbell rang and I looked at the door, wondering who it might be at this hour. I didn't order anything so, I decided to ignore it because it would obviously go away if the person thinks I'm not around or figures that they have the wrong apartment.I was wrong. The d
×Jamie× "Don't step on that!" Higan yelled and hit his fist on the arm of the chair in frustration after my character stepped on a landmine and exploded into pieces. "I tried my best," I said, looking down at him from the couch. "Yeah, you did." He reached out and stroked my hair before standing up from the carpet. "Are you having fun?" "Yeah, but it would be even better if I was actually winning." "Well, you won the racing game that we were playing earlier." "And?" He chuckled. "Maybe shooting games aren't for you." I put the controller aside and leaned on the sofa. "Probably, but they look so cool and you play them effortlessly." "I play quite often. I wasn't so good at first." "My mom would be on my neck if I played video games for more than two hours." "Well, I use video games as a stress reliever so, I sort of need it." He looked at the clock on the wall behind me.
×Jamie× "I have only spent two days at your place but I'm pretty sure that I have gained a significant amount of weight," I said as I walked into the living room with a cup of strawberry flavoured yogurt in my hands. Higan looked up at me. "You're talking like I'm forcing you to eat." "Well, you sort of are." I joined him on the carpet. "Who stocks up their fridge with so much tasty food?" "I still don't know what you like to eat so I filled it up as much as I could." "Thanks. I'll be fat in no time." He chuckled and leaned back into the sofa before putting his iPad on top of it. "I actually think that you would look quite cute even if you were chubby." I blushed and took a spoonful of yogurt in my mouth. "My shoulders feel stiff." "Is it that bad?" "Not really. It might have something to do with how I slept." Higan stood up and I moved forward a little so that he could sit behind me. "You basically slept on me. How are you the one feeling stiff?" He teased. "Maybe your body
×Jamie×Click!I smiled in satisfaction at how beautiful all of the pictures that I took came out. Because of the large windows that occupied one side of the room, there was plenty of light.I had finished unpacking before ten and now that I was done taking pictures of the apartment, I got a little bored. Higan left around eight to go to work and I didn't have classes today so, I had a lot of time on my hands. After sending all the pictures that I took to everyone back home, I went to make a late breakfast for myself. It would be great if I could send Mom the pictures as well but she was not allowed to have a phone. Anyway, I could always show her during another visit. Pouring myself a cup of coffee, I sat on one of the stools around the island and put it next to my plate of chocolate donuts.I hadn't even spent 24 hours here, but if felt like home. I loved waking up next to Higan and I could leave the room without worrying about bumping into Thomas. Knowing that we were in a place w
2 years later...×Jamie×"Is that everything?" Higan asked and stood up straight before stretching his arms over his head. "Not really," I answered as I turned to look at him.A year after my mom was admitted to a mental asylum, my dad moved in with us and I got a little used to having him around. I would be lying if I said that I didn't hold a grudge against him, but I wasn't going to be ignorant about his efforts. Apparently, his job wasn't too far from us and he spoiled my sisters and I plenty. It took more than half a year for us to get used to living without Mom. We made sure to visit her a lot and I loved how much Darcy and Marcela looked forward to such days. The only person who I felt bad for was Dad since he wasn't allowed to see her and it will probably take a while until he can. Right now, I was in the middle of packing my stuff with some help from Darcy and Higan. I trusted that my dad would take care of my sisters in my absence, so I chose to move in with Higan . It was
×Jamie×"Wake up, babe," Higan said softly as he gently shook me awake. I groaned and pushed away his hands. "I'm still tired.""Hey, we have to join the others for breakfast after vanishing on them yesterday.""I am physically incapable of doing so because someone got too excited last night and now my waist is broken," I complained and rolled onto my stomach. He chuckled. "Don't talk like you weren't enjoying it.""Either way, I don't feel like walking right now.""I will help you down the hall. It's already nine, you know?""Damn and I have class soon." While I was in the middle of my mental debate, I flinched and immediately turned when I felt slide his hand up my ass. "What are you doing?""I was thinking of giving you an anal massage.""I'm getting up," I said, as he burst into laughter, and sat up. "But you're going to be my arms and legs."Higan nodded and proceeded to dress me up. When he was done, he gently pulled me out of bed and helped me down the stairs with his arm aro
×Jamie×"Tired?" Higan asked as he leaned against the counter next to the sink. "Not really," I answered with a yawn and wiped the last plate dry with a kitchen cloth before putting it away with the other dry dishes."We had a long day. It's okay if you want to take a nap.""We arrived not too long ago. I can't sleep yet." After bringing the conversation home, Higan suggested that we have an early dinner so, we did. Marcela and Darcy stuck to Dad by the hip as he told them different stories about the places that he visited and the funny things that he experienced. I thought that he might have come back because he was having money problems but he seemed to be well settled. He had a cool job that paid well and even owned two cars. Although the stories that he shared sounded pretty interesting, I spent most of my time on the table ignoring him.Everything was cute and the air was much lighter, but I still couldn't forgive him. Despite that, I was sincerely glad that the others were ge
×Jamie×The table was thrown into a trance like silence as Higan and I stared at my dad in shock. My grip around the cup tightened and I frowned at his downcast face as I grasped onto every word that he had said - still failing to believe his words."What?" I asked, the word barely slipping through my clenched teeth. "I'm sorry. I know that no amount of reason can justify the way that I-""You left us because of that!?" I yelled and he flinched at the bitterness in my voice. "Jamie-" Hig cut in, putting his arm around my shoulder but I pushed it away. "No! That was a jerk move. If you knew how hard it was when the both of you were trying to support us, how do you think she'd handle it by herself?""I'm sorry," Dad muttered with an utterly sorrowful voice and tears of frustration and anger filled my eyes at the sight. This man didn't have the right to be sad. How dare he mess things up and expect us to throw ourselves in his arms!?"You're a fucking coward! Do you know how long Mom
×Higan×"I want to go straight to bed," Jamie said as we entered his house. "I'm exhausted.""I bet you are, but you have to have dinner first.""I'm not hungry.""What do you mean you're not hungry?" Kate asked as she walked out of the kitchen. "The girls and I have just finished adding some extras to the pizza that we ordered.""I didn't expect you guys to arrive earlier than us," I said to Kate and glanced at the large red stain on her shirt. "Were you cooking or commiting a murder?""I didn't carry the gravy properly so, some spelt on me. Nevertheless, there is still enough for everyone.""Thanks," Jamie said before entering the kitchen."How are they?" I asked Kate."They have stopped crying and they didn't argue while we were cooking so, they must be feeling better." She sighed. "I know that everyone has their own share of hardships to go through but isn't this too much?""It's overwhelming.""And we aren't even in their shoes." She looked thoughtful for a moment before asking.
×Higan×My eyes quickly darted around the full parking lot, searching for a space, as I impatiently tapped my fingers on the steering wheel. I had just arrived at the hospital after receiving a distressed call from Jamie and I was trying to have positive thoughts on my way here. Finally finding a parking space, I parked my car and quickly made my way inside the building. I rushed down the hallway to the area that he mentioned over the phone and sighed in relief when I spotted him and his sisters. He was seated in between them and had them in his embrace. My relief died instantly when I noticed the state that he was in. His hair hang over his eyes and he seemed exhausted. Even though I couldn't see his face properly, I could already tell that something awful must have happened.I walked closer and gently ruffled his hair when I was in front of him. He lazily looked up at me but before I could say anything, Kate rushed towards us while breathing heavily. "Sorry for being late," she p
×Jamie×The loud and consistent ringing of my phone had me groaning as I pulled the covers over my head. Despite my many attempts to ignore it, the calls persisted and I had no choice but to see who it was. Reaching out, I grabbed my phone, which was on the nightstand, and looked at the screen with squinted eyes. Kate's name was on the screen and after rolling my eyes, I ended the call. No sooner had I cut the call, than a message from her popped up. "We are downstairs," it read and I couldn't be more confused. Looking at the top of the screen, I saw that it was past ten in the morning and I immediately stood up as all the sleep left me. I pulled on a pair of sweatpants and splashed some water on my face before rushing down. I paused at the bottom of the stairs when the sound of laughter streamed into the hall. Seeing that the joy was coming from the kitchen, I went there and was greeted with a sight of Kate, Natalia and my sisters. They all sat around the granite island, talking
×Jamie×It has been ten years since I last saw Christian Martin. Ten years of no calls, messages or visits. Ten years of being absent on every birthday, school activitiy and holiday. Ten years of watching my mom break down and lose hope each passing day as she waited for him to return. It was weird seeing him here tonight. The face that I could vaguely remember was now vivid and I didn't know what to do. Many thoughts swirled about in my mind as the hours flew by and sleep didn't have the chance to linger. My head was pounding while I struggled to put my heart together. I wish his face would completely vanish from my memory, maybe then today wouldn't have been so painful. For a moment, II clutched the front of Higan's shirt as I moved even closer to him. My head rested on his chest and his arm was over my waist while we cuddled on my bed. He was silent the whole time, so I looked up at him. His eyes were closed and his breathing was gentle."Higan," I called softly, "Are you aslee
