Angel was self-conscious of her attire in the restaurant people were looking at her oddly. When they were led to the private dining room that really drew attention. Justin heard the whispers of ‘Who is she?’ “Wonder who she’s dating?” There was, of course the snide comments he overheard on her attire as well.He was glad Angel didn’t appear to have let any of it bother her. Angel wasn’t stupid or deaf she’d heard the comments, but she’d grown a thick skin over the years, what people thought or said didn’t bother her.

When they entered the dining room she came to an abrupt halt. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why. She was staring openly at Isabelle McDaniel’s known better as Belle McDaniel’s by family and friends. He knew what Angel was seeing; she was finally seeing the connection to her father’s family. This woman minus the hair and eyes was Angel at the age of nineteen. Belle was known for being one of the most beautiful women in Houston at the time. Her granddaughter it appeared would follow in her footsteps. Hunter said simply “Now you see why I didn’t need a test.” Angel couldn’t believe her eyes; it was there in one glance, everything she’d ever been looking for, a confirmation that she fit somewhere. Angel sank into the nearest chair still staring and nodded absently.

It was Belle who broke the spell by smiling warmly and saying “Both my daughters came out the spitting image of my Jamison, my son, bless his heart ended up as beautiful as his mother was. Not to say my girls aren’t beautiful they are truly, for my Jamison he is a handsome man. But my son passed on to you my looks Angel, this pleases me greatly.”

To Angel everything felt so surreal, she’d never had anything tangible to look at or see and say see, that’s me. But now looking at her grandmother, her father, her mother’s family she could see so much of herself in each one of them. Little mannerisms, the way she sat, the way she moved. It was as if she’d been around them to learn from them and she had never seen them.

She listened absently as Michael introduced his two younger brothers to her. She’d heard and learned so much her brain was in overload. Which generally wasn’t an issue for her since she soaked up knowledge and having learned never forgot something or someone. She had just hit critical mass though. It was her father who said, “I think she’s learned enough for tonight. Why don’t we just enjoy dinner as a family together.”

When Marigold asked, “So Angel, are you looking forward to Christmas?” Angel felt blindsided by the question more or less; she’d never had a Christmas with Serena.  Justin could have smacked himself for not warning them. But Angel powered through it saying simply “I’ve never had a Christmas to look forward too.” Ellen Hunter’s eldest sister asked, “You’ve never looked forward to it or you’ve never had it.” Angel seemed to think about it a minute before blowing them all out of the water by saying “Both.” A one word, answer that seemed to floor both families and put another check in Justin’s payback column.

Everyone then changed the subject being able to tell it made her uncomfortable. Everyone could tell she was wearing down, so it was no surprise when she excused herself and said she needed to get some sleep. Justin caught the look Hunter threw him and knew once he had Angel home, he’d be meeting with him again.

The trip back to the Denae Headquarters didn’t take long at all. Once he was sure she was safe in the penthouse he left but he had a guard stationed in the foyer of the two penthouses just outside the elevators to be sure no one interrupted Angel.

When he made his way to the conference room once again, he was met there by Hunter, Jamison, and all, of the Denae men. The seriousness of their expressions hit him first. He listened as Jamison said “We spoke with a detective who informed us it was in fact illegal for a sixteen-year-old to sign their child over without parental consent or knowledge. It set a bunch of wheels in motion.

Have you heard back from Dash yet?” Justin nodded and replied “It’s pretty much as we feared.  Serena could never win mother of the year. The whole time he’s been watching her she’s spent getting high, being high, or getting drunk.

The problem here gentlemen is that there is no way that Stacia contained this situation on her own. There has, to be someone she trusted to keep her secret. Because this woman still continues to receive money to support her habits and Stacia’s been dead for two years.”

It was Nicolas the youngest Denae who said “Follow the money. It will lead back to something or someone.” Justin nodded and sighed as he said, “We already thought of that angle and looked into it, the problem is, the money led right back here.” At their stunned expressions, he continued “Someone in this building has a lot to hide; it’s why I posted a guard outside the penthouse and checked it out before leaving Angel alone up there. That’s a secret someone is going to want to keep hidden.”

Michael asked, “Can it be narrowed down to a specific department maybe we can narrow it down further from there by telling you the people Stacia might have been in contact with.” Justin replied, “We’re doing a, person by person search of the computer systems here; it will unfortunately take a while to finish.” They were all stunned when they heard Angel’s voice say from the door “Not if I help.” At their confused looks, Angel said “I’m really good with computer systems. I could cut your search time in half at least probably more.”

Justin glanced at Harrison his boss questioningly and Harrison said evenly “Every member of this family with the exception of Stacia has had a place in this company, my granddaughter will be no different, let her prove herself.” He saw Hunter nod out the corner of his eye and he pushed his laptop across the table toward Angel.

Angel moved to sit in front of the laptop checking the programs that were installed. She had to d******d a couple things quickly to be able to access the server mainframe and then she checked, cross referenced and checked again. She knew they were probably shocked but she’d been good with technology all her life. They all watched in mesmerized shock as she did things on the laptop which astounded them. She had so many things cross referenced or put into various categories at first, he didn’t understand it all. She’d been at it two hours when the laptop began to beep. She said evenly “I’m not sure what the code itself means, but this would be the one who helped Stacia.” It was Gabriel, who took a look swore and said, “it’s okay we know who helped.”

She looked at them all squarely and said, “I’d appreciate knowing anytime there might be potential danger to myself.” She paused while walking to the door then said over her shoulder as an afterthought. “Were you aware someone is in the other penthouse?” At the confusion on their faces, she continued “There is a man there.”

It was Justin who left the room to go see who had checked into the penthouse. When he returned twenty minutes later it was with a smiling man who said, “The welcoming committee has gotten larger around here.” It was her grandfather Harrison who asked, “What brought you back to town so soon Todd, and who told you the penthouse was available?” Todd asked curiously “Since when do I have to ask permission Uncle, and I’ve never left an Itinerary before.” It was Nicolas who said coolly “Times change cousin, you’ll have to make other arrangements.” Angel didn’t have to be a mathematician to note that this man had to be the one who’d helped her mother.

When Todd had entered, everyone had blocked his view of her, now she deliberately stepped around them so he could see her. She saw the truth in the widening of his eyes and the way his pulse jumped in his neck. He was now officially scared. She said coolly “You never should have made that deal with Stacia, it always comes back to bite you in the ass.”

It was Michael who said coldly “The police are on their way.” Todd yelped “The police? What?  Why?  So, she gave her kid up, that isn’t a crime.” Harrison looked at his sister’s only son and said “It is a crime when a sixteen-year-old does it without consent or knowledge of an adult parent. She also never told Hunter here he had a daughter.” Todd squeaked out “Hunter?” Hunter gave him the look that froze men in their tracks and said, “I guess she forgot to mention that part, huh?” Todd stared frantically at his Uncle and said, “How are you going to explain to your sister you threw her only son in jail.”

Harrison glared at his nephew and said easily “I’ll tell her that her son took my only grandchild from me.” He glanced at Justin and said, “Get him out of here before I become sick.”

Angel herself felt as if her world had been turned upside down then shaken. She felt like one of those snow globes people buy at souvenir shops as if everything was up in the air, and slowly falling down. Everyone watched as Angel excused herself, they knew she’d had enough drama and change for one day. Angel made her way back to the penthouse in a fog, did that really, just happen? Did that man really, just choose a granddaughter he’d never met over a nephew he’d known his whole life? It amazed her that kind of love and devotion, that man had earned her respect and her loyalty without even trying. Hunter had been promised by the Lab he’d have the results no later than the next evening. He’d paid a small fortune for that test, but it’d be worth it if it would make her feel like she belonged. He knew she did, it killed him that he’d had a daughter for nearly twenty years and never known her. Oh, he knew most people wouldn’t believe she was his, but he knew she was. It felt su

It was all happening so fast, Angel said simply “This is a lot to take in for sure, but I need to go shower and get dressed if we’re to keep up with all your plans.” That said she went to the bathroom taking her clothes with her, she stood before the mirror trying to see if there were any physical changes from the day before. Because today she felt completely different. When she walked from the bedroom, she said “Are we ready to go?” It was her Grandma Marigold who said “Dear, do you have a jacket?” Angel sighed and told her honestly “I’m from California there isn’t much need for one there.” Lillian nodded and said, “Well that settles that then, we’ll be taking you shopping for some clothing before we go to the ranch.” Angel hadn’t been prepared for that, but she bit her lip and let the women lead her out. She noted that two of Justin’s men were trailing them and was curious. When she asked her grandma, Belle said “Dear, you’re a very wealthy girl now, we want

Hannah had called her at least ten times. The first had been when she’d realized exactly how large a client Angel would be. She’d known she’d be rich, but this wealthy had never crossed her mind. She’d told Angel that the partners at the firm had congratulated her for going outside the box and bringing in a new client. They had even given her multiple associates and a paralegal to help solely with Angel’s legal matters. It was around three that afternoon when they arrived back at the ranch; she realized she’d spent more in a single day than she had in her whole lifetime. But her father had insisted she pay the fees to expedite everything. She’d taken one look at her still empty house and called her grandmother to ask, “Is there any furniture outlets that have stock that you don’t have to order?” Which was why she was now standing in a furniture store outlet that was owned by a friend of her grandfathers and she was being given the royal treatment. Anything she needed he prom

Cody stared down the man before him, seriously thinking about knocking him on his tail in the dust. Cody said coldly “I believe you’ve said more than enough, and you know the way out.” He didn’t take the hint and fired off saying “Is this what you do? Wait until good people are down on their luck and swoop in take over their life’s dream.” Cody couldn’t help himself; he laughed and said “Is that what your neighbors told you, that they lost the place because of hard times? Your neighbors just sold this place for over 5 million dollars; it wasn’t the bank who received that money.” He could see he’d taken the wind out of the man’s sails and he said coolly “The next time you even remotely think of speaking to Angel in the manner you did earlier. I will rip your spleen out if her father doesn’t beat me to it.” Cody was so angry and preoccupied he missed Justin walking up with four men, until Justin asked, “Do we have a problem here?” The man who hadn’t learne

Hunter himself spent the next three hours on and off the phone with various employees having them do the research he needed done. He had even called his father and Harrison who’d conferenced in his son’s and they’d brain stormed for a bit. He told them he’d promised Angel he’d have information for her the next evening. Then he’d told them about the Kingsley situation and about Gwen confronting them in Angelo’s. Harrison cut in saying “Yes, I received a message from Giovanni saying Angelo refused to serve Gwen after her behavior. It appears Angelo thinks Angel is an angel and does no wrong.” Angel spent the night setting up her home office; the furniture had been placed where she and Deanna had decided it would maximize the rooms appeal. She noted while she’d been away Deanna had hung the curtains and moved the rest of the furniture to the correct positions. Angel began setting up her new laptop and wiring in her TV and phone system to it. Once she had everything setup, she h

When they arrived all the hands were on deck to unload the horses. Cody made sure the most expensive horses got the bigger more prominent stalls, because as he said they were used to more luxurious surrounds. He said winning horses were an extension of most people’s families. The vet they had chosen was on hand and he had startling news for them, it seemed that one of the mares was in foal. Cody said he’d put in calls to try and find out who they had bred her with. Depending on the stud used she could have a foal that wasn’t worth anything. According to Darren the vet she was close to delivering, he said it would only be a few days if that before she did, he noted that she was carrying very, large as well. So, they would keep an eye on the horse. Once Cody got a hold of the old owner, they told him they weren’t sure who the foal belonged too. They had mated her with Gamblers Run one of the horse’s she’d bought tonight, he had won a huge race this year and his stu

As soon as Angel got home, she rushed inside to change into jeans, her boots and hoodie. She ran like a bat out of hell to the barn where Cody and the hands were steadily trying to get the foal to eat. Cody said, “He won’t, nurse and I don’t think she is putting out enough for both foals.” The vet arrived five minutes after she did and took, a look at the foal; he was even looking weak from lack of nutrition. He said “We are going to have to put him on a supplement she isn’t producing enough for both hell at this rate I do not think she is producing enough for one. The birth was hard and traumatic for her. We should separate them from her and put them in their own stall together, and then you will have to feed them both the supplement every 4 hours.” Angel looked up as her father and shockingly Damon came marching into the stable. Damon took one look at the foals and said “Wow, their little beauties.” Cody turned to the hands and said “You heard the man let’s get them moved

Angel stood near the barns and stared out over all that she owned and wondered how it was she out of all the girls in the world had gotten all of this. She had the dream now; it was every little girl’s childhood fantasy come to life. She watched the stallions as they ran around the paddock, and the two mares that were in a different paddock. She was so caught up in her own thoughts she didn’t hear Cody walk up. He said, “It’s a beautiful view, isn’t it Angel?” She nodded and said “Yes, sir it is. I’m meeting with Kyle in a bit about some quarter horses for the center.” Cody nodded and said, “I have got a line on another stallion, one of Heartbreakers sons; he’s a two-year old never been raced.” Angel smiled at him and said, “Setup a meeting and we will go have a look at him, if they are willing to sell him then we’re willing to buy.” She paused then said “I know you like to deal with reputable dealers for horse’s but there is a lot of information online and horse sales. It was after her last class that Grant called, he told her he had located Jay Tannen and she would not believe where. It turned out the Jay Tannen she had known in California had been living in Houston for the last two years attending the same University she was. If she had ever needed any proof fate had sent her here, this was it. Grant told her that he had a class not far from where she currently was right now and if she waited around, she might see him. Angel sat on top of one of the picnic tables and waited, her brothers and their guards looked concerned, but they sat silently as she waited and watched. She smirked the minute she recognized him; he had changed some but not a lot he still looked like the Jay she knew. When he, would have walked right past, she said loud enough he could hear “I’d have never believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, Jay Tannen, in Houston.” She was not sure if it was her voice or the use of his name that drew his attention. They quickly discarded the remnants of their lunch and followed Amanda to an area out on the green where about ten people sat, it was a mixture of males and females. When they arrived, everyone looked at Amanda oddly and she said “This is friends of my family, my sister actually works for Angel. This is her two brothers Jackson and Kaleb.” One of the younger girls pointed at Angel and said, “Wait I know you...” at Angel’s curious look she pointed to her Magazine which was on photography and said, “Your picture is in here.” Angel looked at Kaleb and asked, “Was it published already?” Kaleb shrugged and said “I sent the verification for it by email then we went to Paris. Hunter noticed their preoccupation and cleared his throat loudly before all three of them visibly shook themselves back to reality. They all watched as she went to the diving board and performed a flawless dive into the water. It was at this point Kaleb said “Oh, Angel, I forgot to tell you I entered some of my photos into a contest. They want to publish one of them.” Angel congratulated him and then the other shoe dropped as Kaleb said, “It’s the picture of you in the surf in the Maldives.” Angel wasn’t thrilled about her photo being published but this was her brother, she w

She was also in the middle of negotiation with Garrett about the businesses she co-owned with her brothers and the Kingsley companies all of which turned out to be much more than she’d imagined, to begin with. After his in depth research, Garrett had uncovered that the reason Kingsley’s company wasn’t producing a profit was because he’d had someone on the inside who was embezzling the funds. After his investigation was through, they had actually managed to catch the man, and to their disbelief the money was sitting i his account. She said they had promptly taken all the antiques loaded them into their trucks and been gone within forty-five minutes. She had been very, surprised by their speed. She caught Angel up on all ranch news. She told her that they had received some irate calls from a couple people because of them not being chosen to allow their mares to be covered by Heartbreaker or Gambler. She sighed heavily and said, “Send them our apologies and tell them to try again next year.” She then filled Melanie in on what was going on with Seth Newton. Melanie said she would see what she could dig up on Seth and Elizabeth. When Melanie hung up she said, “The Vanderbilt Auction Hall will host the auction, they tried to say they had no available dates for the near future but with a little persuasion they agreed to host it in two weeks’ time. They will send someone out to Kingsley Farm to gather and collect every antique and catalogue them for the auction. But they need you to make sure all personal items are removed from the antiques.” Angel nodded and said, “I’ll see to it immediately, when will they be arriving?” Melanie replied, “I’m to meet them tomorrow morning at eight.” Angel nodded and replied, “Good work Melanie, I appreciate it, thank you.” She went out by her pool to
