Lydia was stunned. She wanted to explain that it was not a joke, but she could not bring herself to do so. She realized she did not want to divorce him.

"Why are you just standing there? Why aren't you saying anything?" Jennifer grew impatient.

"I'll do as you wish," Lydia said, lowering her head, her face flushed.
