Janette was momentarily stunned by how quickly the conversation turned to collaboration. She wondered if Henry had a solution but was gauging what benefits they could offer in return.

She quickly said, "Mr. Truman, what kind of collaboration would be best?"

"I'd prefer to hear your thoughts first," Henry replied calmly.

After a moment of hesitation, Janette remembered her father's bottom line and said, "We hope to secure a 75-million-dollar investment in exchange for 60 percent of the shares. However, we'd retain management and operational control of the company."

Given the crisis, she could not afford to ask for too much.

"That's too little—75 million dollars. It wouldn't even make a splash," Henry said.

"We'll invest 300 million dollars and take an 80 percent stake. What do you think about that? However, Lydia would need to take charge of managing the company. How does that sound?"
