Chapter 7

That was unfortunately not the case because when I woke up the next morning it was still the exact same as the day before and nothing turned out to be a nightmare. Mary was really gone and no amount of searching and looking led us anywhere and we were no closer to finding than we were the day she went missing. We hired private detectives, and we made announcements and pleas and posters and pictures asking for her safe return but none of that helped.

It was as if she had disappeared from the face of the earth never to be seen again.

Zach has started going more and more into his shell and never really smiles or laughs anymore. We haven’t had a joyous moment since she was taken five years ago. I can’t really blame him because I haven’t been any better myself also. I miss that little bundle of joy.

Its like the moon Goddess closed off the happiness tap and opened the depression and sadness tap fully.

Today she would have been six years old and we would have had a huge celebration and everyone would have been here and happy with us.

In the end I decides to have a little statue made and put up in the garden where I could go and visit her whenever I wanted to and talk to her whenever I felt the need to do so. Zach hasn’t been to it. He saw it as if I was giving up on little Mary by having something put up for her.

I would never give up the search for her.

Not as long as I live.

He doesn’t know it but I have Liam and his team of helpers helping out with the search.

He came highly recommended by Ava and Caleb the queen and king of the vampires and although we aren’t best friends I trust them to help us. Its not like we hate each other there is just creative differences and we have learned to work around them to make both our species prosper.

Although he hasn’t found a clue yet he has some friends all over keeping an eye out for her.

We believe that she and a man from the rebellion are together because we have seen him taking her on the security tapes of that dreadful evening. What’s worse is that he was someone we called a friend in our pack.

We took him in when his mother and father were murdered and the killers left him out in the forest.

We treated him like our son and then he turns around and does something like this. Zach has been psycho analysing everything in his life and looking to see if we maybe missed something that would have pointed towards this happening but as far as I know he hasn’t found anything yet.

Sighing I look up at the clock on the wall and see that it is almost time to go and get Zach and force ourselves to go down and eat lunch with the rest of the pack. Their sympathetic looks were tolerable the first few months but after that it just became a little too much to handle. They all feel guilty in some sort of way for what had happened and they don’t believe that we don’t blame them. I can’t tell you how many times the guard that was on duty that night under her window has apologised to us and how many times they warriors that were on patrol have apologised for letting them come that close without seeing them.

I usually tell them it would have happened either way because that is what the Moon Goddess had planned for us and we should be strong and get through it. Everything will work out in the end we must just believe and try and move on with our lives as it is at present.

There is not really anything else that can be done now is there.

I was just about to knock on Zach's door when I felt my cell phone vibrate in my pocket. Who would call when they could just mind link me and get it over with?

It was Liam.

"Hello."

"Good afternoon your majesty. I do not want to get you too excited to early but I do believe that I have a link in regards to the whereabouts of your daughter and Mr Ryder. They have been spotted by a pack forming part of the old ones. I will be following scents as soon as possible as they have packed and fled. Sources tell me that your daughter is alive and well. She is your splitting image your majesty. "

"T... Thank you. Please go and let me know what you find."

I sank to the floor there right outside Zach's office door and just sat there crying. I couldn't tell you if they were tears of joy or if they were tears of sadness or even relief but I just knew I sat there crying until he opened the door and sat down right next to me asking me what the matter was.

I told him that I had hired Liam and that he found her but they were running again and he would need to follow them to find our daughter. I told him that he said that his sources told him that she was my splitting image. This had both of us crying and praying to the moon goddess that she would return her to us safe and sounds and that Liam would succeed in finding her this time.

We cleaned and washed our faces and then slowly walked down to the dining room to go and have lunch. Both excited and scared for the outcome that was to follow after having received the semi good news. I don't think I would be able to survive if they loose them again and they have to start the search from scratch again.

Turns out that they left almost immediately after Liam got the tip and he followed their scent for a while but lost them again. Honestly, I don’t know anymore. I don’t know how long it will continue before it changes into what really happened and she starts hating me. I decided that I would take her on a picnic and we could try and see if something that happened is the cause of the nightmares.I was thinking it could be the warning signs of her wolf coming forward but her smell hasn’t changed at all so that one is ruled out.I thought about her and the little wolf she met and thought that that could be the reason for her nightmares and that she had smelled him and then linked it with some smells from her past but I’m not sure if that could be the case as she isn’t supposed to be able to link smells until her wolf comes. All this uncertainty was giv

Ryder’s P.O.VThe woman stopped like four yards from us and placed the basket on the ground in front of her feet. She still wasn’t talking and kept on staring at us. I still couldn’t get a read on her scent. I definitely smell something that is not entirely human, but she is not a wolf or anything I have been in contact with before and I’ve been in contact with quite a lot of species before this whole running away and hiding away part of my life even started.Being part of the royal pack definitely has its advantages in this regard. Royal visits to the other realms and meeting the other species of the supernatural world. She started taking a few more steps toward me and started motioning with her arms and it looked like she was trying to tell me something, but the words were not coming out of her mouth. She pointed to her mouth and showed me something.“Okay so if I understand you correctly then you are either not able to talk at all or you are not able/ want to talk to me at this mome

Ryder's P.O.VAfter dropping the flowers into the basket she turned around, and waved at me and Dora before running back into the flower field probably thinking that she had not yet picked enough to fill the entire house like she had wanted to do. I watched her pick some more bouquets and place them in the basket along with the other ones before she ran back with one in her hand holding it out to Dora who willingly took it with the biggest smile on her face I have yet to see. Before I had time to give her a sandwich she had already run off to the field again trying to tug the basket back over to us. After I sat and watched her struggle for a little while longer I decided enough was enough now. "Mary, come and have a sandwich before you pass out." She looked up from where she was still struggling with the basket she ha

Dora's P.O.V I had felt the need to tell Ryder everything about what I was doing and who I was and I didn't even know why. I knew he wasn't my Gabriel but I felt this special bond or something that I wasn't able to explain between us. I had wanted to ask him about the sweet little girl he had with him and when I saw that she had fallen asleep I thought that it would be the perfect time to do so. I was already ready to share my story with him after he had said what he had wanted to say but when I saw him struggling, looking for words, changing his mind, and looking again I decided that I could start telling my story so long and then when he was up to it later he could tell me about him and the little girl he is traveling with. I grabbed the stick I have been using to write everything out in the sand and started writing my story giving him time to get his words together. I was used to people looking at me funnily because I had what the humans call selective mutism. I was no stranger

Ryder's P.O.V When she took out and gave me that ring box I felt all the blood drain right out of me. If this had been her mates' mothers ring then either she was already dead, hiding away somewhere, or living under a new fake name. "This ring and crest belong to a pack that was taken over by a very evil man when he overthrew the Alpha and Luna of the pack. They were the nicest people and I had talked with them plenty of times when I was still with the palace helpers. I met with them right before they were overthrown and most people in the pack were either slaughtered or enslaved under the reign of the madman who took over. The luna, whom this ring belonged to was presumed killed or as having run away with her son and living under a false name somewhere in heartache because her mate was slaughtered right in front of her eyes. It was rumored that her son who was at the time only thirteen years old protected his mother when his father wasn't there anymore and that it was believed tha

Dora's P.O.V What Ryder told me had me in shock for quite some time. I knew that the rebellion was after the crown and that they would do anything to get what they wanted but to kidnap the miracle child of the king and the queen and keep her away from them to just bring her back to help them get the crown in the future was wrong in so many ways. Ryder helping them I didn't know if I wanted to believe him about the manipulation that he was experiencing but he did seem to care and have Mary's best interest at heart for the little while that I have seen them interact with each other. She also seems to have love for him and to have accepted him as her father even though he isn't that. Everyone was roped in to help search for this little girl when she first went missing and I remember that I had thought to myself who could be so cruel to take the little girl from her crib in the middle of the night. " Why would you do it though? I know I haven't known you long enough but to me, you see

  • Hidden In Plain Sight    Chapter 14

Dora's P.O.V After we had decided that we would be traveling together Ryder had asked if I had any luggage that I would need any help with because if I did he would just get Mary back to the cottage and in her bed tucked in before getting it for me. He was such a gentleman but I shook my head no because I did not have anything that I was traveling with. After all, there had not been time to pack anything before the people coming to get me from my house had shown up. had climbed out the window and down the vine plant as fast as possible while being safe and after that, I ran like my life depended on it. Looking back to it now it probably did. Along the way, I have been changing clothes by leaving the previous outfit hanging on someone's laundry line and taking something else just to make it a little harder for them to be tracking me. It also helped me change my scent a little bit each time and with them still following the other scent allowed me some more time to escape. Ryder p

Mary's P.O.VI wonder if Dora is the same as dad and if she can also turn into a wolf when she wants to. Dad also hasn't transformed in a while and I kind of miss it, to be honest. I liked looking at him in the wolf body. He was pretty and he didn't scare me for some reason.I heard dad talking to Dora about something he had done in the past but I didn't hear everything so I don't know what it was about. All I heard is that he was glad that he was the person who had agreed to do it as he believed that it was the best and the safest option at that point in time with the information that he had available at that point in time.I wanted to listen and maybe hear if he would talk about mom but he did not. I miss her even though I can't remember anything about her. I have this little hurt in my heart whenever I think about mum and I didn't know why. Mary's P.O.V I don't remember how long I was awake after we left, but I know it wasn't long. Car rides always made me sleepy, and in all the years, I have not once managed to stay awake long enough to see the whole trip. The calming sound of the tyres on the road just lulls me to sleep with its calming lullaby. Being shaken awake, out of my calming sense of sleep, wasn't something that I wanted. Smacking the hands away from me and murmuring for them to leave me alone also didn't seem to work because I was still shaken even after that. "Dora is picking the snacks alone, and we both know she doesn't have the best taste. You might want to go and help her." That had me awake almost immediately. She never chooses the speckled eggs and always goes for kale chips or something healthy and sugarless that has no taste at all. Smiling and eating it just to make her happy is what dad and I did, but for the last while it has been becoming increasingly more difficult. Jumping out of the car,

Ryder's P.O.V When Mary told me that she felt watched and followed from the library that had me worried already but when she told me that she had noticed the change in the attendants in some of the shops and someone told her to run I was glad that she was able to get home safely. I really want to meet that person who told her to run because I want to thank them for their help but she said that she didn't see who talked to her and that there wasn't anyone that she saw near her so she has no idea who talked to her. She mentioned that is why she said that it could have been something before she said someone. At the moment, I didn't care who or what it was, I was just really grateful that she was okay. The most important thing on my mind was to get everything packed up into the car and leave before there was the need for another fight. Mary didn't know who it was, and with that little knowledge gap she had because of me not telling her what she is and what actually exists, that could

"RUN!"I didn't have any time to think about the voice in my head because the tone of the voice just let me know that there was no space for argument and that if I didn't run I would regret it soon enough. I might not be feeling the eyes on me anymore but that didn't mean that they weren't lurking somewhere behind me. I didn't know whether I would be able to make it back home before whatever was chasing me caught up to me but I was hell-bent on getting there. Luckily I had the recently acquired speed on my side helping me zoom past everything faster than I have ever thought of running. I thought where would be the safest to stop and try and get into the house because I didn't want to struggle with the extremely solid front door that took forever to push open and I didn't leave any windows open when I left not thinking that I would need to make a quick entry into the house. Exiting the town square and entering the little clearing where the house is located I was so glad to see that

Mary's P.O.VWaking up I got the pendant out again fully intending to find out exactly what it was and what it means. I was hoping this would help me to be able to retrace my steps of last night and find out what had happened and in whose blood I was covered. I didn't want to let my imagination sore and think of random possibilities and scenarios because each one that I had come up with was more gruesome than the previous one and to be honest I was making myself both sick and scared.I didn't want to take it to Dory or dad because I didn't have a story to tell them about where I had gotten it and I didn't even have the energy to be creative enough to make up a story of how I had happened to get it into my possession. I had a feeling that telling them that I had picked it up on the street would not suffice and that they would not buy that story.Full well intending to go to the library and see what I could find out about the pendant, I had started my

Unknown's P.O.VWe had just finished dinner and were walking back to my place where I had plans for the lovely lady that was so willing to accompany me on this date tonight. Little did she know that she would not be seeing her beloved cat again after I am finished with her.Taking them out for dinner and getting the drunk and soft makes it easier for me. Also, you know slipping something into a drink here and there has also never hurt anybody, well except for the girls of course. Blood from a willing victim just tastes so much better than blood from someone struggling. The fear that courses through it just adds a weird aftertaste that I have learned that I do not care to taste when I need to refill my energy levels.I mean I could always just use my powers of persuasion on them, drink my full and let them go with them not remembering anything but where is the fun in doing that? I have more than just hunger needs that I have to fulfil and in any case

Mary's P.O.V I didn't think that I had missed as much as I had missed while I was out but by listening to the story that Dora was telling me I did in fact miss a lot. We were even at the second location since the attack that dad was sidestepping the whole time. To be honest I felt better than what I remember feeling the last time with the doctor and his wife. I don't feel so scared and weak as I did with them and since I woke up on my own without the screams ringing through the whole room meant that hopefully, the nightmares would also not be present this time. Maybe it was the fact that I was older and understood more of what was going on in the world or maybe because in my heart I had started making peace with the fact that I was not normal and that the other people in my family were also not normal. I mean my dad can turn into a werewolf at will and Dora has this weird relationship with plants and little creatures. She also collapses when peopl

Dora's P.O.V Ryder left to go and make sure that there would be no werewolves here that would cause us trouble before he signed the lease for the house he had gotten us. The fact that we would only be able to occupy it in a few days because the owner said she was still getting it ready for renters was making me uneasy. I mean Ryder said that he had booked this place a while ago when he was working out the plan ahead of time so she knew there were people coming here to rent it so she could have made sure that she had it all ready before now. I just found it strange that she didn't make sure that the place would be done and ready when she had gotten the rent request from Ryder and accepted it from her side. It made me suspicious and I shared these with Ryder before he left and he said that he would check it out and make sure before we jumped to any conclusions. I agreed but that didn't mean that I would sit back and let him do everything on his own. I had my own ways of finding out i

I honestly don't know what I did to anger the moon goddess because she did not listen to my prayers. We had not gotten far away before the three were on our tails again. This time, they weren't being safe around Mary anymore, and they were doing whatever they felt was necessary to get her from the car. I didn't have the time to look back and make sure that she was safe and not scared out of her mind because one wrong move on my part could send us all to an early grave, if not lifelong imprisonment. They had shifted and were chasing us in their wolf forms, bumping against the car every once in a while, biting at the tyres making me swerve before getting back control. I could barely keep the car on the road as it was but with the nipping and everything, they were making it a lot more challenging to keep it steady. Just when it looked like they were backing off, one of them managed to get a good enough bite into the tyre and have it run flat. Not being able to continue with the flat

  • Hidden In Plain Sight    Chapter 36

Ryder's P.O.V Hearing the crunching leaves and breaking branches alerted us that someone was coming and that they were coming fast. I knew it was not the people after Dora because she would have been incapacitated by now with how close they were to us. I knew it had to be either the rebellion or the royal guard. I didn't want Dora or Mary to be here to find out who it was along with me, so I had them go along to the car for so long. I could see Mary struggling to listen to me, and I had to force her gently to go along with Dora to the car, but it is for the best and for her best. If they would find her here with me they would have dragged her back after they had killed me and Dora and made her do their bidding if it was the rebellion and if it was the royal guard they would have done the same except they would not have dragged her back but they would have taken her back to her parents if they were still alive. After she had disappeared, they had closed off, and nobody had seen them i
