Ophelia stood sat at the bar. Rena was singing. It had been two weeks since she'd started working there.
It'd been two weeks since she saw him. Two weeks since she'd spoken to Eric.
She sipped the drink quietly. Rena asked for the shift, and she was already on her way, so she decided to just...hang.
It was her first doing so. She listened to Rena's dynamic voice. They were fundamentally different.
She tapped her fingers on the bar in boredom, spinning around the watch the men and women who gathered there interact.
What where they talking about?
She looked down at her phone. What was Eric doing? Did he miss her? Was he alright?
She sighed. "Shoot. I really need some sleep."
She looked back up. She hadn't seen Mr. Hades since that day? What was he doing?
"You wondering where the boss is," Nino quipped.
She looked up with a smile. "Why would you say that?"
He shrugged. "He talks to you more than I've ever seen him talk to anyone."
That made her smile. "Well...I was wondering where he was. Do you know?"
"Probably his company. That where he spends most of his time," Nino remarked. "What me to refill your glass?"
She nodded. "Sure. When do you get off."
Nino grinned. "Close. I think after I'll hit a sex club or something."
She frowned. "Really? Is there one near here."
He chuckled. "No," he pushed her drink to her. "I was kidding."
She shrugged. "I guess I'll go home. Thanks for drinks Nino."
She got up, leaving a tip. She'd gotten paid today. It was a nice check. She paid her phone bill, and got an apartment with it.
She headed home with a sigh. The next thing she needed was a car. It'd take time to get that though.
The rain came out of nowhere. Ophelia sighed, hurrying to the bus stop.
She waited, checking the schedule. She'd just missed it.
She said, slumping into the wet seat. Well, crap. This sucked.
A car slowed down, stopping in front of her.
"Hey little song bird," He called from the rolled down window. "Want a dry place to perch?"
She got into the car, with a soft smile. "Thanks Mr. Hades."
"Well, I couldn't let you stay there in good conscious, little Canary. You might catch a cold. I'm coming down to the Mines this week. Wouldn't want anything happening to your voice."
She smiled, tucking her hair behind her hair. It had curled up, and the shrinkage was...deplorable.
Why today of all days? Why rain?
He shot her a look. "Where am I headed?"
"Oh, keep straight."
He nodded.
She shivered. He turned the heat on silently.
"I thought you were in the schedule today," he asked.
"I was," she explained, "But Rena asked for the hours."
"Don't you need them," Mr. Hades murmured.
"Well I do. But Rena doesn't strike me as the type to ask for things she doesn't need. So it's alright."
His lips quirked up. "Interesting."
Ophelia moved around in the seat anxiously. She was in her bosses car.
She glanced at him. His face was all edges but his expression was soft. He had his hair back today.
She gasped lightly. She'd never seen him with his hair down.
He glanced at Ophelia, making her look down.
His lips quirked up. "Am I still going the right way?"
"Oh! Um yes. It's a little ways until you get to my side of the town, sorry."
"Don't be sorry. I offered to take you home," He said gently.
Ophelia, looked at her hands. Her makeup was probably dripping. Her hair was a mess, her lashes were probably coming undone—
"You're a shy one aren't you?" He chuckled lowly, rattling the car with his voice.
She smiled nervously at her lap. "Yeah. I guess so."
"You're different on stage," he noted.
She glanced up.
"You should be confident, Songbird," he stayed seriously. "Show your beauty to the world."
Her...beauty? Ophelia asked herself.
"Easier said that done," Ophelia murmured. Playing with her hands.
"Isn't everything?" He shot back. "But it's important to do it. Confidence will make you fly again, songbird. You just have to find it."
She looked out the window. "Um...make a left here."
The car ride was silent. She gave him instructions.
He pulled up to her small apartment, getting out.
"I'll walk you to your door," he instructed, opening the door for her.
She obliged, because her new neighborhood was by no means the safest.
"Thank you, Mr. Hades."
He nodded. "It was no trouble at all, Songbird."
He turned around the leave as she shut the door. She paused.
"Mr. Hades?"
He turned around. "Yes?"
"Do you...think I'm beautiful?"
He looked at her. "No."
She looked down.
"I know you are. That's why, one day, I hope you will be as confident in your beauty as I am."
She looked up, as he walked back to her car.
Her face lit up with a smile. More confident in her beauty huh?
Ophelia sat in her bathtub, with a bottle wine, some ramen noodles, and a fork. She was content. Was she beautiful? He thought she was beautiful? She sunk into the empty bathtub, screeching.
Ophelia stepped on stage, a little shaken by the conversation she'd had with Mr. Hades. The soft light on the Mines glowed just a bit. He stayed. He sat in his spot, but he seemed more invested in his business talks than usual. She grabbed the mic, her dress brushing along the stage. Ophelia sat in the chair, breathing
Ophelia was on her day off. But she was still at work, having nothing else do. She drank quietly, letting Rena serenade her with her beautiful voice."Put this on my tab, please Nico," Ophelia said gently.Nico smiled. "Canaries drink and eat free, new rule per the boss," he slid her a jack and coke.
Ophelia nodded her head to the music, mouthing every word, her hair rippling in the breeze, her hand out the window.Adrian glanced at her, smiling to himself. So this was what she was like?Heh. It was nice.
"I met him...when the sun was down," she said with a softly smile. "The bar was closed...we both had had no sleep." She whispered. He watched her closely."And he sang a soft song to me, and I fell in love."
"Are you going to take advantage of me, sir?"He cleared his throat. "No. I'll get the door for you."She waited patiently, and he opened her door taking out his keys out.
She woke up in the middle of his large bed. She got up, taking a shower. She grabbed a white towel wondering about the very large house until she found it.The bathroom was well stocked, with unopened toiletries. She smiled. Very like him.His room. It just screamed him.
Adrian was confused. It wasn't as it he wasn't used to women trying to seduce him for various reasons.Something about her was different though. Dangerous.Because she didn't have an ulterior motive. It wasn't easily remedied. He couldn't throw money, or satisfy her curiosity.
Adrian combed his hair back nervously. Maybe he should tie it back.He sighed. This was nerve tracking. But it had to be done.He stepped into the hotel. "Ophelia? Are you in here?"
Adrian looked up in the dark. Why hadn't he said anything. Why he hadn't he said anything? Why hadn't he stopped her?He sighed. What should he do?His head pulsed. "I think..." he whispered aloud, "I think I'm angry."
"You should start learning Italian," Adrian whispered, his eyes on hers.Ophelia smiles. "What about you?""I already know Italian. Italian, German, Japanese, Mandarin, and a few others."
Adrian sighed. They'd taken the company jet to Detroit, and had went straight to the Vitale Estate. Adrian was hesitant."Are we sure this is the best route?""We can trust Grim," She assured him. "And anyone get didn't eliminate must be very strong."
Adrian blinked. The light was so bright. He looked over. Where on earth was she?"Ophelia?" He called. "Opie, are you here?"They agreed they'd both take some time off work, so where else could she be?
Adrian glanced over at her. "Tell me you're joking? That I'm seeing things?"Ophelia smiled, saying nothing."Ophelia, I—thank you."
What good is it? I've gone to hell, but my blood is in your veins. Can you really be happy? As long as you're alive, I live on—Hades opened his eyes. "My father is a pedophile," he whispered.Ophelia turned over, half asleep. "Huh?"
Ophelia watched as Hades paced on the phone multiple times."No, I'm not sure when it occurred. My fiancée and I just got home and it's in ashes." He sighed.Ophelia sighed, making Hades pause and come over to inspect her. He looked her over.
Hades went to work the next morning, as if nothing happened. People brought him food, and letters, and cards and many words of sorrow. He still hadn't felt anything about his fathers death. It was just a fact now. His father, was dead. That was it. Ophelia went to work. That was what was on his mind. He didn't re
