I could easily tell that he was not joking and it was the most random thing he'd said, but I burst out laughing and slapping his chest, "you're so funny." I held my breath in hope that he would play along and treat it as a joke.

I let out a sigh of relief when he joined me in laughing, leaning forward to pour himself a drink. I felt his eyes on me the entire time he was gulping the bottle down while pretending to focus on his friends and their endless chatter.

I was eventually engrossed in the conversation we were having about their life partners, the worst things they'd done and the worst places they had been, that I got completely distracted and forgot all about Daniel.

I didn't have any alcohol because even though I said Daniel was unreasonable to suggest that I was unsafe being with Henry alone I didn't want to take the risk of being drunk, he was a man I barely knew and could do anything to me.
