Emma’s POV

“Good morning, sweetie,” my mum greeted me as she slowly opened my bedroom door.

“Morning, mum,” I smiled, softly. “Come in,” I said, gesturing for her to come over to the bed.

“You look well. At least you look better than your father described last night,” she said as she laid next to me on the bed.

“He told you I looked like shit, huh?” I laughed. “I’m not shocked. I know I did,” I shrugged my shoulders. “But yeah, I’m feeling much better this morning”.

“That’s good. No work today?”

“There is, but I just called in sick. I needed the day off,” I said.

“I completely understand”.

“Mhm. Where’s dad? Gone to work?” I asked.

“Yeah. He left earlier today because he had somewhere to be before going into the office, so you were most likely still asleep at that time”.

“Okay,” I nodded. “So how are you? Dad mentioned you were down with the flu yesterday. Are you feeling better?” I asked, placing the back of my palm on her forehead to check her temperature. “You feel a bit warm,” I s

Liam’s POVIt’s been three days since Emma was home, meaning it’s been three days since I last saw and spoke to her. Today’s Monday, though, and it’s the start of a fresh week, so she was bound to come back home today. At least I hoped she would. “Morning, babe,” Anna chirped up from behind me. It was around 7:30 a.m. and I was getting ready for work when she walked into the bathroom where I was brushing my teeth. “How did you sleep?” she asked as she snaked her arms around my waist from behind. “Short,” I responded as I spat out the toothpaste from my mouth. “Short?” she repeated, but in the form of a question. “Mhm”. “You couldn’t sleep?” “Nope”. “Is something the matter? Did I do something wrong?” she asked, pouting, as she unwrapped her arms from me. “Nothing at all,” I answered, then rinsed off my mouth and dried it with a towel. “You didn’t you anything,” I continued as I turned to face her. “I just had a lot on my mind that didn’t allow me to fall asleep early enough

Liam’s POV“Good morning,” Emma mumbled as she stepped out of her room.I had been standing by my doorway for a while trying to respond to some messages before eventually heading back into my room when Emma stepped out of hers. She had clearly just woken up and, judging from the raspiness of her voice, I had assumed she was going down to get some water to drink or something. From the look on her face, it was quite obvious she had forced that greeting out of her mouth. Like she only did it because of how close we were standing to each other, and she didn’t want to seem rude or something. “Good morning, Emma,” I greeted her back as I turned off my phone. “Hm,” she said, then made her way to leave, but I stopped her. I stretched out my hand to block her path and she stopped just a few inches from my hand. It was almost as if she made sure to avoid the hand just in time so she wouldn’t have to touch me. “Please wait,” I pleaded. She looked at me, then looked back at my hand, then lo

Liam’s POVAfter ending the call with Sammy, it was soon time to close for the day, so I began packing up my stuff when my secretary, Candace, walked into my office. “Don’t tell me a client’s waiting for me outside, Candace. This is 4:55 p.m. I’m a human being too, and I’m done for the day. Tell whoever it is to come back tomorrow,” I told her as I continued putting my stuff together. “Sir, it’s not a client,” she responded. I paused what I was doing and looked up at her, then I noticed a familiar face hanging around in the lobby behind Candace. “It’s your wife,” she said, then stepped aside for me to get a clearer picture of Emma standing outside my office door. “Well, why’d you keep her waiting?” I asked as I put aside the stuff I was packing up. “Let her in,” I said, then stood up from my seat and adjusted myself. “Yes, sir,” she said, then walked out of the office while Emma walked in. “Emma, hey. What are you doing here? Is everything okay?” I asked with a confused look on

Emma’s POV“What do you think of spending a weekend in Cabo? Or better yet, Mykonos?” Sammy asked me as she looked up from her phone. It was a Saturday and she and I had nothing better to do today, so she was over at mine, and we decided to spend it as a lazy day. The guys had gone out for the weekend to watch a basketball or baseball game. I wasn’t sure which because I wasn’t exactly paying attention when Liam was telling me about where he and Ryan would be going to today. That’s right. I’m still pissed at him.Anyway, since they were both out, I decided to invite Sammy over, and we’ve just been binging different shows and munching on snacks since. “Cabo or Mykonos? What’s happening there?” I asked, looking up from my phone with a confused expression on my face. “Your birthday, of course. I was thinking we could go the weekend leading up to the day since your birthday is on a Monday, but it’s entirely up to you. We could do it that weekend or the weekend after that. What do you t

Emma’s POV“Hey, birthday girl!” Sammy screamed into my ear as soon as I answered her call. “Girl, calm down,” I said when she reduced her tone. “First of all, I’m at work. Secondly, my birthday isn’t till Monday so can you please relax?” I sighed. “You’re way more excited about this than I am, and it’s quite fascinating”. “Emma, you’re turning twenty-five. Not just that, but you’re twenty fine as well. We’ve got to turn up this weekend!” she shrieked. “Sure thing, captain,” I laughed. “But could we please use our inside voices right now? I’m having the worst headache at the moment,” I groaned as I clutched my forehead in the palm of my left hand. “Oh, I’m sorry. I had no idea. What’s the matter though? Have you taken something for it? Painkillers?” she asked. “I’m not sure. I’ve just been feeling this way since I woke up, and I don’t know what to do or take. I took some ibuprofen earlier, but it didn’t seem to do the trick I guess,” I said.“Sorry, love. I hope you feel better.

Emma’s POV“Hey, are you ready?” Liam asked from behind my bedroom door. “Ryan just called and said he and Sammy got stuck in some traffic, but they’re almost at the airport, so they advised we leave now to avoid missing the flight”.“Okay. I’m almost ready. I’ll be out in five minutes!” I yelled back.“Alright, I’ll be downstairs. Do you want some coffee for the road?”“Yes, please,” I responded.“Okay,” he said, then the next thing I heard was the retracting sound of his footsteps. It was almost 6 a.m., so I knew we needed to leave the house immediately if we wanted to beat any traffic because without traffic, our apartment is about an hour and thirty minutes from the airport, but it’s definitely going to be more than that with traffic, and we needed to get to the airport by 8:30 a.m. latest.I used the next five minutes to organize the last of my things, then dragged my suitcase out of my room when I was done. I got to the top of the stairs and realized there was no way I was going

Probably in his room or something,” I answered as I made my way over to their bed where Sammy was lying down. “Hi,” I purred as I got under the covers and tried to force my way into her arms.“Hi,” she laughed, then wrapped her arms around me. “How are you?”“Full,” I responded. “I just finished snacking on some Doritos and Cheetos.“Girl, if you were hungry why didn’t you just say so, so we could get something to eat?” she asked, looking down at me.“I wasn’t hungry,” I responded.“Of course, you weren’t,” she rolled her eyes.“Anyway, what’s the plan for today? Emma’s POV“Can I borrow some sunscreen?” Sammy asked as we pulled out our beach towels to lay down on the sand. “I forgot mine back at the hotel”. “Sure thing,” I responded, then pulled out the sunscreen from my bag and handed it to her. “Thank you”. “You’re welcome,” I replied. She applied the sunscreen, then I applied it after her, and then we laid down next to each other while Ryan laid down next to her. “Why was it that Liam said he wasn’t going to be able to join us?” she asked as she looked over to me. “He’s working,” I responded as I pulled out my novel from my bag. “Really? You’re going to read right now?” she asked, eyeing me. “Why not?” I shrugged my shoulders. “Anyway, why’s Liam working today? Isn’t today Saturday or do I have my days mixed up?” she asked. “Oh no, it’s Saturday alright. Liam’s POVIt had been a week since Emma had made her choice to be with me and for this last week, I’ve probably been the happiest man on this earth. Now, our first anniversary was in three days, and I had no idea what to do. Before we got married, I remember while I was having one of the pre-wedding discussions with my mother, she said she would love for Emma and me to throw a party or a ball or something in that regard to commemorate the milestone, while also making sure we appear as a happily married couple in the public light. However, with how things are going in the family right now, with my dad’s sickness and the rift between Emma and my parents, that party that my mother would have wanted us to have just doesn’t seem probable. And to be honest, I haven’t even had a talk with Emma about this anniversary of ours, so God knows if she actually remembers that it’s even coming up or not. “Liam! Where are you!?” Ryan yelled, pulling me out of my thoughts as he stepped into the apa

I didn’t realize I had kept you standing there”. “It’s fine,” I dismissed it with a small smile. “I was lost in thought too, anyway”. “Right,” he replied, his lips drawn up into a tight smile. “Here,” he gestured to my bag that was still slung over my shoulder. “Let me get that for you”. “Oh. Thank you,” I said as I handed the bag to him. “No problem,” he replied, walking over to place the bag down on the couch while I took a seat on one of the stools surrounding the kitchen island. “So,” he started as he came back into the kitchen and took a seat on the opposite side of me. “How’d it go over there at Maywood?” he continued, his eyes focused on mine as he eagerly awaited what I had to s

  • Her Unexpected Love Story    Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Two

Emma’s POVIt was now Sunday, so it was time for me to head back home. As I packed up the last of my toiletries, my mind wandered back to the events of the past few days. The emotional rollercoaster I'd been on since my trip to the cabin with Liam, followed by the heart-wrenching conversation with Tony, left me feeling both drained and oddly liberated.I zipped up my bag and took one last look around the hotel room that had been my sanctuary for the night. After leaving Tony's apartment yesterday evening, I couldn't bear the thought of going back to the home I shared with Liam. Although Liam and I were in a good place, it just felt unfair to me to immediately run back into his arms after what had just gone down with Tony. So, I needed time to process everything, and to gather my thoughts before facing him.As I wheeled my suitcase towards the door, my phone buzzed with a text from Sammy - ‘Hey, girl. What’s going on over there? Call me when you can’I smiled, grateful for her constant

Emma’s POVHis words hit me hard, even though I knew he was probably right. “Tony, I—”He held up a hand, cutting me off gently. “It's okay, Emma. I'm not angry with you. Hurt, yes, but not angry. You can't help how you feel”.I felt a fresh wave of tears spill over. “You're too good, Tony. You deserve someone who can love you wholly, without any doubt or confusion”. A sad smile played at the corners of his mouth. “Maybe. But I fell for you, Emma. All of you, complications and all”. We sat in silence for a while, the weight of unspoken words hanging between us. Finally, Tony spoke again. “So, what are you going to do about Liam? You want to be with him, right?”I hesitated for a moment, thinking about my answer, until I eventually nodded my head. “Yes I do,” I sighed. “You know, this is honestly the first time since that day that I’m actually saying it out loud that I want to be with Liam, and it’s so crazy because even after running to Sammy’s house the moment we got back home, I s

Emma’s POV“Oh,” he said, suddenly sounding dejected. “We need to talk,” he repeated after me. “That can never be a good thing,” he chuckled bitterly as he loosened his grip on my waist until he eventually let me go completely.“Can we sit?” I asked, still looking up at him.“Of course,” he smiled slightly. “After you,” he said, pointing to a couch behind us for us to sit on.“Thank you,” I said as I sat down, my eyes still trained on him, watching his every move.“Mhm,” he nodded as he walked over to the couch, sitting down on the spot not too far away from me.“So,” he clasped his hands together after heaving out a deep breath. “What's going on, Emma?”I was silent. Not because I didn’t know what I wanted to say, but I was trying to figure out the best way to say it such that I would seem like a person and not a completely horrible one.I sighed, letting out a deep breath as my shoulders fell further than they already had.“Okay,” Tony chuckled, bitterly too, if I might add. “What’s

  • Her Unexpected Love Story    Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Nine

Emma's POVSaturday had finally come, meaning that it was time for me to go to Maywood to see Tony. Luckily for me, Maywood from Los Angeles wasn’t far at all, so I didn’t have to leave home early or anything. As I packed my overnight bag, stuffing my charger into it, it dawned on me properly that I hadn’t actually been to Maywood to see Tony before. Since he and I started talking, the only times we’d seen each other here in L.A. was when he’d come over here for business. Obviously, it worked for us, and so we’d meet up, but that has happened just two or three times now. So, thinking about all of this, it was quite sad that the reason I was going to Maywood to see him now was to let him know of my situation with Liam. Stepping out of my room, I bumped into Liam who was on his way back into his room. “Oh. Hey. Good morning,” I greeted him, a bit startled by his presence. “Morning. How was your night?” he responded, sounding rather chipper. “It was good, thank you. And yours?” I ask

I didn’t hear you come in,” he said, standing up from his spot on the couch, as he walked over to me. “Yeah, I’m not surprised. The volume of the TV is quite loud,” I chuckled softly. “Right. Sorry,” he snapped his fingers and rushed back to the living room to turn the TV off. “Alright,” he clasped his hands as he walked back over to me. “Hey,” he hugged me. “You good?” he asked as he released me from his embrace. “Yeah,” I nodded, then sighed. “Just tired”. “Sorry,” he said with a pitiful look on his face. “So, did you get to see what it was that caused the traffic?”“Yeah actually. It was an accident. Nothing too serious though. I mean, I wouldn’t actually know, but from what I saw, it didn’t seem like there were any casualties or anything”. “Okay. Well, that’s good,” he nodded. “Mhm,” I said, making my way into the living room, as I dropped my keys on the dining table. “What was it that you stopped

Emma’s POVFollowing my whole issue with Liam last night and our awkward encounter with each other at breakfast this morning, I think it was safe to say that I’ve been rather uncomfortable throughout my time at work so far today. With the way the air is between us right now, I just feel weird and uneasy. Sadly, this is how I feel anytime he and I have a disagreement or a fight or whatever. The man just has too much of a hold over me and it’s very annoying sometimes – like now. Trying to get work in this moment is mad difficult because I simply cannot get him off my mind. During my lunch break, I contemplated giving him a call so we could work things out, but I decided against doing that for two main reasons. The first and most important reason was that if I did that, even though he would deny it, I would most certainly come off as desperate and probably even clingy. The second reason was that, at the end of the day, he and I would still meet each other at home, and it would be far be

I didn’t get that?” he asked with a look of clear confusion on his face. I sighed. “Tony,” I said, my voice still low but audible enough for him to hear me this time. “Oh,” he responded, his jaw tightening. “And why exactly are you going over there?”Uhm, okay. I definitely did not expect that kind of attitude. “Uh first of all, could you please fix your attitude?” I asked. I mean, I didn’t expect him to be jolly when I mentioned this, but I didn’t exactly expect him to give me a dirty-ass attitude either. “Sorry,” he mumbled. “Why are you going to se
