ELLA

After the curse was broken, I passed out.

I woke up a full day later, having slept for more than twenty-four hours straight. I woke up to Dr. Carter fussing over me. He called out, and I heard hurried footsteps into the room.

Everyone was here, including the twins and their parents, Wendy and her parents, and Adonis and Luna Hannah.

They asked if I was okay, and frankly, everything was too stimulating for me, so I asked to be left alone for a moment.

I bathed, tried to clear the fog in my head as much as possible, and got dressed. By the time I went downstairs to the living room, it was like a small party was taking place.

"What's going on?" I asked. There were candles and music, and everyone drank wine from a glass.

"How are you feeling, Ella dear?" Alpha Adonis asked. He got to his feet and walked over to me.

"I'm...okay?" I replied.

He had a peaceful expression about him, and his eyes — those eyes that look

But I was drunk on something else that wasn't alcohol.Joy.I felt so goddamn happy right now.A few months ago, I never believed my life could change for the better. ELLAWe headed to the pack base in the forest's heart the next day.The binding ceremony had been perfect, and the second one that came at night was more than perfect. I woke up with the evidence of it.But now it was business. As the new Luna, it was time to meet my subjects—the pack members.According to the twins, the base we were headed to was different. It was the forest base of the Blackwood pack. Most of the pack members resided there. It was closer to nature and far from human interaction. It took us four hours by car to get there.Elder wolves lived there mostly, and some scouts ran border patrol duties. The twins described it as a peaceful place full of nature and said they spent a few months there as boys.By the time we arrived, it was late evening.A group of three scouts—two men and one woman — waited for us at the forest's entrance. The base was hard to find unless an insider guided you, and nearly impossible to navigate independently. I guess it was to maintain its pea

She faced me, her glasses a bit unbalanced on the bridge of her nose. "Isn't that unconventional?"I stared at the papers splayed all over my desk. I have an office now, right in the Blackwood estate. I spend most of my days here, after school and before I leave, helping out with the pack affairs."I know it sounds a bit weird," I said and turned to face Wendy. She was perched on the edge of my desk. She wore a lab coat stained with what looked like plant juice. She watched me intently. It'd only been a few days since my induction as a Luna with her as my soon-to-be primary healer, and she had already looked the part. The glasses, the aura shift. Everything about her now screamed professional."It's not weird, but what do you hope to accomplish with this?" She said and adjusted her glasses again.I had been thinking about it for a while—a su

He tugged my skirt down my thighs, his expression serious.I mouthed a “thank you,” and he nodded grimly.I glanced at Tristan, and he had the same look of seriousness. I cleared my throat and focused my attention on Sara."What do you mean?" I asked Sara, my brows scrunched together."Ella, the signs are all there. The council had something to do with this. They most definitely did this.”"But why?""Why? Well....let's say Alaska is not a large place. It's quite remote, and naturally, so are the packs there, too. While the Blackwood and Heartstone packs are powerful but not very large.""You speak in parables.""What I'm trying to say is rather simple. Blackwood pack has a population of no more than two hundred pack members. And Heartstone only started accepting members after moving to Seattle, right now we are about eight hundred. ELLA"Guess who you're looking at now? The latest Alpha of Heartstone pack!" Sara let out an excited squeal that caused heads to turn to us in the airport. She tackled me into a bear hug, and we nearly toppled over."You look amazing," I said when we pulled apart. I searched her face, and yes, she was glowing."Thank you," She did a small courtesy. "It was the Seattle air. Ella, I want you to meet someone. This is Logan, my beta,” she said, and a young man about our age stepped forward."Luna Ella," he said with a bow. I have heard so much about you. “It’s an honor to meet you in person finally.""It's a pleasure to meet you, Logan. I hope we get along nicely." I said with my warmest smile. He smiled, and his features lit up. It briefly crossed my mind that he was precisely Wendy's type. Perhaps I'll arrange a meeting for both of them.Sara's eyes moved behind me. "Oh, and your Alphas? They aren't here?"I scoffed lightly. "You think they'll leave me without scary dog privilege?" I ge

ELLA"About the Alpha meeting," I said. Sara dropped the tea cup and looked up at me. "We leave in a few days, right?""Ah, yes. We'll be there for a while. I have someone working on the preparations already." Sara pushed the teacup away, clearly still not liking the tea. “It’s going to be my first Alpha meeting, and I’m looking forward to it.”“And the prospect of a mate, too.”She chuckled to herself. “Yes, that too. However, I don’t understand why you’re so interested in a mate for me.”“Am I?” I mused and took a dainty sip from my teacup. “I simply wish to see my sister happily in love with a man who would support her.”“The fact that I’m an Alpha on it scares some people…mostly men, away.” Sara sighed. “But I guess that is to be expected. There’s always a price to pay for something, right?”“You could—"A knock interrupted us. We both turned to the door."Come in," I called out.The door swung open, nearly flying off its hinges. The twins walked into the office, carrying with the

ELLAThe Alpha conference was to take place in the heart of London.A day before the slated date, we all got ready to leave. We left Blackwood pack with some bags we had gotten ready for the journey, all of us.To hell with their outdated misogyny, we were all going for that meeting. We arrived by evening and had to check into a hotel for the night. To say I wasn't nervous would be a grave understatement. After we had checked into our respective rooms, we had a quick dinner and got ready for bed.I just stepped out of the shower wrapped in a towel.Tristan was on the balcony, talking with someone over the phone. I met Nathan’s eyes, and he smiled at me.He had taken it upon himself to fluff up our pillows. I sat on the bed, and he walked closer to me."You're tensed," he noted, his voice deep and soft."You have no idea." I sighed. I rubbed my neck, and I could feel my muscles tensing.“M

They can hardly sit still at the moment.”I favored her a warm smile. “That is to be expected of kids. You know how they are, young and full of so much energy.”Today, I was to spend some time with kindergarteners at the pack’s new daycare center.Little ones who had no idea at the moment that they weren’t humans, babies, in the sense of the word. She adjusted her horn-rimmed glasses and laughed softly. “Ah, yes. Right this way, please. Would you like anything to drink? Tea or coffee, perhaps?” She gestured to the hallway ahead, where the walls were painted a soft baby pink with motifs of flowers, rainbows, and stick figures playing in green fields. We walked down the hall side by side.“Water is good.”“I shall arrange for that.”We paused in front of a door. From the glass screen, I could see the kindergartens running about, smiling brightly as they chased one another

Nathan asked, his brows wiggling suggestively as he approached me. He pulled me into his arms, and I shuddered just at that touch alone. "Mrs. Blackwood,""Oh, shut up," I laughed to myself. ELLADr Celia was dead.We found her body and that of the witch who was controlling her outside of the altar, badly burned up.The altar itself was on fire, but the fire was going down as if being suppressed by an invisible hand.Magic was probably at play, we guessed so.Some of the saved werewolves offered to bury the dead.Even as I stared at the dead body of the witch who controlled and killed my mentor, I didn't feel any feeling of satisfaction that she was dead.I would have felt a million times better if I were the one to tear her apart bit by bit and leave her body parts for the vultures and crows to pick her bones clean."There's someone inside there," Tristan said as I watched the wolves dig a grave for Dr Celia.I turned to him. He and Tristan had gone to check the altar, but they didn't get as far as the door."There's a witch inside." Nathan said. "Just how many of them are they?""It's a coven." I said and turned to the altar. "There's a lot of them. And we're going to k

THIRD PERSON POVBeing under a witch's control was like being trapped in your head.Dr Celia didn't know exactly when she fell under the witch's control. All she remembered was waking up one morning and finding that her body wasn't in her control. She had woken up in the lab with no memories of getting there. She still had her consciousness, and the witch would sometimes let her take control for a few minutes or hours at a time, depending on what was needed.Celia did try to break free, or run, or alert someone of what was going on.But before she opened her mouth to speak, she would find herself slipped back to the darkest corner of her mind, and a strange presence would take control of her body. She hated it. Absolutely hated it.It went on for long months. An unspoken rule. "Keep your mouth shut at all times."The witch searched her brain, all her memories, the treasure robe of medieval knowledge and experience that she had. And the witch used them all to her advantage. Not only di

ELLA“What the fuck is that thing?" Tristan asked, his voice carrying the awe and surprise we all felt. The large circle was the size of a small football field. The land strips around it looked like they had been lynched of all life. The circle glowed a pulsing red, dark and ominous, like something from a horror movie."A circle," Wendy said, her voice shaky.I couldn't even speak."I can see that it's a fucking circle, Carter. But what exactly is it?!""We don't know," Nathan replied. "We don't fucking know."We had been able to save most of the werewolves who had been mind-controlled and injured.I couldn't shake off the feeling of something being wrong. Then we noticed a light in the distance, not far from the altar, and traced it to this weird circle."You've got to be fucking with me," Tristan said, his voice cold and angry."Oh my goodness." I gasped, my eyes going wide.Out of the circle werewolves, many of them coming out in their numbers. Their eyes glowed red, signifying tha

Those idiot vines had thorns that cut into my skin. The cuts hissed in pain as my contaminated blood flowed out of it.My heart hurt like a banger.I was literally about to pass out on the cold forest floor. But seeing Ella's face above mine, her brows tight with concern, her lower lip between her teeth in a way she did when she was stressed, the smoke and burns all over her body when she had pulled me out of that fire — how could I pass out when my friend needed my help?"Wendy?” She tapped my chin. "Hey! Can you see me? I screamed out, my voice laced with horror. I rushed to her side.Wendy's head rolled to the side, and she looked at me.Her eyes were blood red, similar to the wolves who had been under the witch's mind control. She bared her fangs at me, growling in anger."I'll get you out of here!" I cried out. I grabbed the vines and pulled them. "Argh!" I stumbled back, my hand cradled in my lap.The vines cut into my palm, and blood dripped steadily down the cuts onto the floor. Those vines looked alive, moved, and sounded lik

I felt safe between them, but I was still worried.Perhaps we should have waited till morning. But I didn't want to see what would happen if we waited. Each time I blinked, I saw the map with the red-marked location glaring at me."There's someone here," Tristan said and paused.I looked around, but the shadows in the forest moved and slithered.
