My eyes open, and I am greeted by the warm morning light seeping into my room. I take a slow breath, savoring the calm moment. Sitting on the bed, I reach for my phone on the nightstand, rubbing the sleep from my eyes.

“ Oh shit,” I blurt out, seeing the bunch of notifications on my phone.

I feel a flutter in my chest. The calls and messages are from one person; Aiden. I remember putting my phone on Do Not Disturb and going straight to bed last night because I was trying to escape a lot of emotions I'd been feeling.

I don't want to check the messages right now. I don't want to. I don't want anything to ruin my mood, I want to preserve my peaceful morning. I don't want to have a shitty day.

I don't know why, but curiosity gets the better of me. I open the messages from him. I glance through the screen, my eyes scanning the messages.

Aiden's messages read:

“ Hey, I'm so sorry about what happened with Sarah. I feel bad about how it went down.”
