Alex P.O.V. We’re on our way to Isabella’s pack, when my phone goes off. The number is unfamiliar, and even though I don’t usually pick up calls that are blocked, something tells me to pick this up. “Hello?” “Alpha Alex? This is Beta Dale, I have tried to get a hold of you for the past four hours.” “I’m sorry, Beta. We’ve been in the air and my phone was on airplane mode. What is going on? Why are you calling me?” My stomach churns. Has something happened since I last talked to Isabella? It was yesterday afternoon, and she told me she had some happy news to share. I could hear Elijah laugh in the background, and everything seemed fine. “Where are you now?” “We just touched down, and are on our way to the strip where we have cars waiting. Why?” “We were attacked last night, Alpha. Luna Isabella needs you. Elijah..” He chokes up and I imagine the worst outcome possible. “Our Alpha is going between life and death at the moment. Luna is distraught, and refuses to leave his si
Isabella P.O.V. I don’t know what happened? I was in a separate hospital room, ordered by the doctor to lay down and rest, while they monitor Elijah’s condition and the next thing I know his heart is failing. Emerald has been battling something inside us, keeping it in check but wouldn’t tell what it is. She keeps saying we need to do something drastic and soon if we want to stay us. Whatever that means. I hear the flatlining of my mate, and I jump out of bed, running to his room. I remember the feeling of utter heartbreak, how he is slipping away and then I faint. I don’t remember hitting the ground, but I know my powers overpowered me and I did something. I hear Alex yell my name, but I am not hearing him from inside my body. I’m somehow levitating over the scene, and I watch as Elijah spirit looks at me with wide scared eyes, before he returns to his body and his heart beats once again. Then I know I’m dead. I used my lifeforce to prevent him from dying on me, and I died instea
Isabella P.O.V. “You two need to stop that bickering for a moment and remember your matebond and why you are in the same hospital room, with people who call for me when they can’t talk sense into you. Think back. Before all this. Before the attack.” Selene implores, but I am in no mood to as she says. Elijah is seemingly on my page in this, because he also crosses his arms. I smirk. Well, I guess there’s actually one thing we can agree on. Selene narrows her eyes. “Well, then I guess I have no choice.” And with that I feel the world go black, and the last thing I hear is Alex and Dale cursing out the Goddess and I’m out. Everything is once again black. This is really getting old. I know what I have to do, but I am not sure if I want to do it this time. Why should I? He is the one who ruined this. Why should I be the good little mate, who solves everything.Someone growls behind me and I swirl around just in time to see Emerald jump me. Somewhere in the distance I hear a
Elijah P.O.V. We’ve used the last few days to catch everyone up on what happened at the end of the attack, the blood curse and what happened with Selene. Dad came home to the pack when Lauren called him about me and Isabella. He had an update on mom, and it was not entirely good news. Although she has settled well in the ward, and found herself at home with the daily schedule and dad living there with, she’s still cursing Isabella for taking away her family. She only does it out loud when she thinks no one hears her, but what she doesn't know is that dad and Dale had surveillance installed in all her rooms, except the bathroom - but there are mics in there. They are recording everything she says and everyone she talks to on the phone or in person. She has had visitors when dad is not around, and thinks no one knows she is still plotting her schemes. He is contemplating leaving her, although that would hurt him deeply. Isabella has taken it with grace. She knows she is not at fault f
Isabella P.O.V. I’m carefully watching the interrogation unfold on the other side of the glass, and I have to give it to Elijah, he is an excellent actor. So much so he has to send me recurrence through the bond. Ashlee and Milan are both almost vibrating with anger, and their eyes keep clouding over. “Would the two of y’all stop with the mind-linking and say whatever it is you want to say?” I ask over my shoulder. My eyes are trained on the conversation in the other room, and the direction it’s following at the moment. “We’re just discussing if we should call my mother or not.” Ashlee says, and I turn my head for a brief moment. “Why?” “She committed a crime against a friend of our pack, a personal friend of ours. We need justice.” “Your elder council banished her from your Coven, Ash. They did what they thought was right and in that sense justice will have been served in the eyes of your Coven, and your mother cannot do anything further. But!” I say when she opens her mouth
Isabella P.O.V. She was speaking the truth. That much I was sure about, having used my powers on her. But I had no idea how true she really was speaking. Over the last five days, we have had nightly shadow attacks - although they have not been as successful as the enemy would want them. We were ready for them the first night, and some of them walked right into the traps our pack members had set up. Elijah cursed the fact he forgot to ask her where Conan had his base of operations, but it seemed he didn’t have to. Dad told us that night at dinner, that his old pack had gotten a new Alpha. Something he had not gotten the chance to tell us yet. He and Alex relayed how they were in contract with different pack members, and how they wanted out, but they couldn’t risk it. I looked at Elijah that night, both of us thinking the same. “Well, how about we help them out?” I said, and my brother actually looked at me like I’ve grown two heads. “Help them out? They have crazy dark magic practi
Isabella P.O.V. “Where are we going, sweetheart?” Mom asks for the hundred times and I laugh. Impatient much? “Where do you think we are going?” I ask back, as our driver, the young warrior I encountered on my stroll through the pack lands, takes a turn on the highway into the city. “We don’t know, Isa. That is why she is asking.” Milan answers before mom can open her mouth. Mom nods, as the others have their eyes on me. We are in one of the big Tahos, which is very convenient when you want to be in the same car together. We have another car following with more guards. Elijah is not letting anything to chance when it comes to our safety. “Well, I guess it has to be a surprise then.” I tease, while mind-linking Sebastian where we are going exactly. He looks in the mirror, smiling. Elijah probably already told him. George, who is on the passenger seat, turns around. “Luna Queen, if I may?” He asks, and I cringe. “It’s just Luna, George. No need to use both titles. It sounds..
Elijah P.O.V. I’m in my office with all the guys. They are not happy I asked their mates to accompany Isabella to town today. Especially when I told them to have some mate time with the girls, but when I tell them the reason they all agree this is important. They ask what they can do, and I delegate the tasks between them. Dale is in charge of getting food together - shopping, preparing and making. He is actually a genius in the kitchen, so I am confident he can get everyone to work together and make this happen. We talked about a small ceremony, but what Isabella doesn’t know is that I am planning to include all the pack, and guests from outside. We know Conan will attack soon, and what better way to gather our allies than to invite them to our wedding tonight. I just hope they can make it. I ask Cedric to be the happy messenger of invitations. He is still well respected and an Alpha. They will listen to him. I will call the Covens and vampire families myself. “Elijah, do you mi
