Mark’s POV
Anxiety got a grip hold on my mind. I kept adjusting on the chair while my eyes lingered on the door. I had arrived at the Redmoon to get my things when I knew Kate would be at work. After sending them off, it dawned on me that I couldn’t just leave without having a word with Kate. Thinking through our conversations for days, I just had to conclude that it doesn’t have to end like that between us. We can work something out. Being myself would be a hard task knowing she is still out of my reach.
Kate didn’t respond to the text I sent her, not even the restaurant address. But I came anyway, hoping she would too. Because I do remember how I had acted the last time and no one in t
Kate’s POVMy wolf purred at the beautiful sight in front of us. I woke up next to Mark and my heart felt warm. Dinner last night felt so good. Karen was the most delighted to know that we were back on talking terms. We had slept separately at first before Karen came to my room to whisper to me to go sleep next to him. Smiling to myself, I caressed his hair. As I made a move to leave, he pulled me back into his chest. “Where are you going?” He asked with his eyes partially closed. I giggled, placing both of my hands on his chest. “I need to go get ready for work. Aren&rsquo
Mark’s POV“Hey, Mark. I am making dinner with Lois, it will be ready soon.” Kate said kissing my cheek. “Okay, baby. I will just take a walk around the house.” I replied. She nodded in response and went back in. I haven’t been able to sit since we returned from touring Kate’s favorite places in the pack. Lois joined us along the way for dinner since I am due to leave tomorrow finally. Inhaling deeply, I walked towards the shed where I always painted. I would miss this house that had provided me with solace for the past year. Something I didn’t think I wou
Kate’s POVWith Mark back at the Diamond pack our issues were resolved. My mind feels more relaxed and focused. I have fallen back into the routine of exercising my wolf every morning. After long thinking, I realized it would be best if I confronted the work demons in front of me. Driving all by myself to the office of the investor who had backed out made me feel some sort of anxiety. Lois and Karen had offered to come with me but I assured them that I would be fine and could handle the situation at hand with no worries. It's time I start doing things by myself and stop expecting others to do it for me. My phone rang, jolting me out of my thoughts. A small smile appeared on my face when it turned out to be Mark. He is quite hellbent on keeping thoughts of him fresh in my mind. Answering the call, I bit down on my lips to keep the smile away. “Hey, you.” I cooed. “Hi, mama. How are you doing today?” He asked amidst some movement in the background. I shrugged as I made a turn on the
Kate’s POV“I can’t believe I was about to miss a chance at getting to know an incredible woman like you,” Charles commented after the meeting was over. I crossed my legs and folded my arms. “So are you trying to say this meeting might be regarded as a successful one?” “Won’t refuse it.” He replied with a boyish grin on his face. “So if you don’t mind me asking. Why did you back out in the first place?” “Mm, I am not certain if I am supposed to respond to that.” “Why not?” “Maybe because it was an anonymous text warning my company to not put my eggs in your basket.” Something about his response doesn’t sit right with me. “Don’t you carry out your research before investing in a company? Are you saying that after all of your research, only one person’s word had you backing out of a project that would rake in loads of money for you and everyone else involved?” My voice went a bit on the high side. “I could tell you or show you the content of the message sent to me. However, I woul
Kate’s POVI couldn’t wait to get home. Karen had called during lunch to say she might be back home late and promised to grab dinner for us along the way. Not wanting to return home and have a burst of excitement with all that I had to tell her, I decided to stay back at the office and work more until I knew she was close to returning. Lois was quite amused when he found out I wasn’t heading home immediately, but I didn’t want to tell him this tea because he wouldn’t get the point of my frenzy. So I can’t have him ruin it for me. The moment I got Karen’s message saying she was headed home. I packed up everything that belonged to me and made for the car. Getting on the road, the loud buzz from my phone indicating an incoming call distracted me a bit. It’s an unknown caller. For a brief second, the thought of it being Charles crossed my mind. He probably couldn’t get me off his mind and wanted to hear from me by all means. “And where would he have gotten the contact from?” My wolf inq
Mark’s POV“You look sharp!” My wolf commented. I smirked in response, feeling good. It’s been an entire year since I got dressed for the office. Quite intriguing to be staring at myself in the mirror feeling like an entirely different person. Days when I went to the office I was always preparing for some sort of fight with Kate. Always prepare myself mentally in a bid to get into her head and mess with her just so she can misbehave. That way Dad ends up disappointed with her. But nothing I ever did made him distrust her and that crippled me. With everything that has happened, I realize I was just being childish. A sad smile crossed my face. Getting this chance to be a better person is something I would never take for granted again. I have been silly for most part of my adult life. Hoping to mend the bridges that I burned and the relationships I ruined with my behavior. Reassuring myself that I can handle it. I stepped out of my room and headed downstairs only to be met with an incr
Mark’s POV“Amber.” I mouthed, feeling unsettled at the sight of her. Just when I thought my day was going to go with no hitch. She giggled childishly, taking slow strides towards me. “Hi, honey. Thought to come surprise you on your first day back to work.” Taking two steps backward when she tried to kiss me, I held a displeased gaze. “How did you know I was resuming today? And how the hell did you get in?” Amber snickered, “Isn’t it obvious that I came in through the door? Why are you acting cold?” She asked. “What are you doing here?” I questioned again. Flipping her hair, she groaned out loud and plopped onto the couch. “I wanted to say hello to an old friend. What’s wrong with that? Or did Kate ask you to not talk to me?” “Can you not bring Kate into this? State whatever it is you came here for. I only have ten minutes to spare you.” “Well, that is enough time for me.” Amber giggled again and pulled me to herself with my tie. “I have missed you so much, baby. All this while
Dame’s POVThe more I stared at the document in front of me the dimmer the words and numbers on it. That bitch is really working up my nerves. I thought she already learned her lesson with the money she lost from the investor. How is she continuing with a project that I made sure was brought to a halt? I groaned in frustration, slamming the documents against the table. The table phone rang countlessly and I just stared at it feeling repulsed. Just when it stopped, the door opened and Lance peeked in. “Dame, you are here.” He stated as if surprised to see me. “Why? You have a problem with that?” “I have been calling that phone to call you up for the meeting we are having with Charles Sanders which is mandatory for you to attend. The memo was sent to your mail. Why are you keen on making me look bad? I am the CEO, I shouldn’t have to come get a head manager to a conference meeting.” He rambled like he still had a lot to say.“Maybe you are forgetting here that I am the Alpha, Lance.
Kate’s POVLois yawned like he had plans to rip my head off. I gave him a disinterested look, “can you stop doing that? We are in a public space.” I mumbled, looking around the space like someone would come to question us. He made a face, unremorseful. “Oh, please. Like they do not yawn. I am tired of this setting. I want to go home.” He whined. “Why? I thought you were enjoying the meal. It's a nice conference.” I urged in a taunting tone. “Spare me that nonsense talk, all I want to do is have a good sleep. I have been roaming around for ages. I deserve the best of rest.” “Aww, baby.” I cooed, caressing his face. “You have worked so hard. I am sorry for putting you through this much stress.” Lois snickered. “Like you are truly sorry.” “But I am.” “If you are you wouldn’t go ahead to a resort while I was busting my ass off for the company.” “Why are you being so dramatic? You act like the restaurant wasn’t a five-star and you didn’t get paid extra for working so hard.” “Well
Mark’s POVMy strength was thinning out as I kept going like I was on some sort of hunt. I have been running for miles now and I can’t even tell how long it's been out of here. My wolf whined in pain, no longer interested in my persistence. I would love to stop, but my head isn’t in the right state and I just want to keep going until there is a possible chance of me passing out. I still do not know what to do with Davina. Her situation makes me keep thinking about how gullible I might have been towards her and I am more angry at Carl for continuously beating around the bush. If he had just told me straight up the many reasons he doubted her stay in the house. Instead, he was acting like the world would crash down on him if he said something. My wolf snickered. “Would you have accepted his words for it? Just admit that you are obsessed with looking after Davina.” I swallowed hard, halting in my steps. I felt dizzy at the blood that rushed through my head. It’s hard to explain why I
Mark’s POVThe content of the file made my head swirl continuously. You think you know someone only to realize you know nothing at all. I don’t know which I would have preferred to be kept in the dark about Davina’s true tales or to know about them. I had kept the file away from me for an entire week before I could summon the courage to open it. Maybe because I knew I was going to find something that would incriminate her. Now that I have read through the entire content, I am vividly mad that she took me for a ride. It would have been better if she lied just about her divorce. One would understand her desperation to be away from the guy. I shut my eyes tightly, hitting my head against the chair. What am I supposed to do?“You know exactly what to do, Mark. Stop asking questions like you aren’t aware of how much risk this could bring to your life and business. Are you just going to let her move around freely despite everything that you have just discovered?” My wolf sounded displeased
Kate’s POVWho would have thought meeting with Charlotte would yield so much? I was expecting a fight and also to just put an end to the bullshit Charles intended threatening me at every chance they get. We aren’t children, so it makes no sense to keep doing stupid things. “And who says adults aren’t allowed to be stupid?” My wolf queried. “You know exactly what I am talking about.” I retorted. She grumbled in response. I wasn’t surprised when I got home to find Karen and Bianca at the house working on a dress. They could have done that at the store, instead for the sake of hearing a gossip, they came all the way home. “Spill it already.” Karen blurted unable to remain patient. Bianca looked up at me. “Is your hair still intact? I bought glue just in case you might need it.” She said with a calm expression you would think she is really looking out for me.” “Go to hell.” I retorted, taking off my shoes and joining them on the rug with my arms spread out like my life had been gutt
Kate’s POVI shouldn’t be here. I should not be found in this fucking space! But here I am. When would I really get over this moment that keeps revolving around Charles? It’s as if I am glued to keep doing things that I would regret. Here I am seated with Charlotte trying to discuss why I am with her intended man. I actually accepted this invitation because I am thoroughly bored and I could do with the entertainment. Karen is waiting back home to hear what we have been discussing. “Why are we seated here Charlotte? I have a lot of work to do. Coming out here is taking too much time out of my schedule already.” “Is that so? Because from the way you gallivant around town with Charles, you don’t seem too busy.” She replied. I chuckled at her words. “Really? Are you keeping tabs on every one of his moves? Shouldn’t you be exhausted at this point? Constantly chasing after a man who doesn’t pay much attention to you is not a good trait for a woman who prides herself so high. Or wait, is
Mark’s POV“Is this some sort of a joke, Mark?” Clara questioned. I sniffed, adjusting myself on the chair while Carl spread his legs out going all serious on his sketchbook. I hate it when he leaves me to deal with my mess in cases like this when he really should be helping me out. But then, I brought this upon myself. I didn’t realize a sudden meet-up would be required just because I mentioned to Clara that she would need to offer Davina a bit of help in her career line. We have been at it for almost three days which is quite draining. I thought it was just a one-call thing and that would be it. Now Davina would think that I was just bluffing to her. Clara has been a major part of Carl’s career and life since our college days and pops up in mine once in a while. Being a designer who mixes art with fashion, she made sure to keep Carl close even when we weren’t all a big deal yet. Our communication isn’t every time because of her busy schedule. Always flying around packs. We also de
Mark’s POVI yawned recklessly as the hunger hit me a bit more. This is part of the disadvantage of not eating on time. I didn’t even know when I fell asleep. It was a long day. Only for me to wake up in the middle of the night feeling super hungry. I thought it was morning when my eyes were wide open. But it turned out to be just a bit past twelve. Dragging my feet down the stairs with its light, I was about to turn towards the kitchen when I heard someone sobbing. My ears perked at the sound. Who could it be? Using my nose to sniff out the person’s scent and ear to fish out the location of the sound since there was no light on. I was shocked to find Davina seated on the floor with her arms wrapped around her. The first thing I did was to put on the light before I sat next to her to ask what was happening. Seeing her face clearly, I felt sad for her. Her eyes were swollen from the constant tears. “Are you alright, Davina? Why are you crying?” I asked, caressing her back slowly. S
Mark’s POVMy legs didn’t seem to have an actual life in them as I kept dragging them around the room. These boys can be so annoying when it comes to putting them to work. They had no business in hurting Davina’s ex-husband. He was just supposed to be arrested, read the charges against him, and locked up for good. But they just had to shoot at him. Chances are his legs will never be the same again. “Why are you feeling so restless? It’s not as if you went to shoot the dude yourself.” Carl stated in his nonchalant tone. I wouldn’t expect him to understand my dilemma since he is so hellbent on hating Davina and everything around her. Just when I was about to give me a piece of my mind, the door opened letting in Davina. I gulped hard, blinking slowly at her. She had this strange expression on her face that had me worried already. “What was that you were telling me on the phone, Mark?” She asked coolly. I exhaled a shaky breath. “Davina, the thing is….” “Your ex-husband was shot.” C
Kate’s POVMy soul left my body for real as the pain sizzled through my scalp the first thing that came to my thoughts was that I was finally getting caught by one of Charles's women. My friends already stood up with their wolves on the surface, only for my eyes to meet with the assailant and it appears she got the wrong person. The lady dropped my hair like it scaled her hands as she gasped loudly with a hand to her mouth. “Oh my goodness! Miss, I am so sorry. I thought you were the lady I was searching for. She has red hair just like yours and came in here.” What! To think I just lost a lot of blood right now thinking my life has finally reached its end. Just then the lady she was looking for indeed ran out of the restaurant. My assailant didn’t even bother to wait to find out if I forgave her or not before she bolted after her victim. Even in my state I already feel sorry for the red-haired lady. Because unless she gets saved by a miracle. She wouldn’t be getting out of that cl
