Kate’s POVReconciling with Lois made me feel a bit more relaxed to tell him about my jail experience. He had an amused look on his face as he chewed on the fries we got afterward. “Alice Flynn. Sounds like an odd name. But how are you certain it is okay to help this woman?” Lois inquired. “Sincerely, I don’t know. I just find myself attracted to her in a way that I can’t explain. I already gave Mark the details. I am expecting him to call me and tell me about her soon.” “Where would she stay?” I grinned sheepishly at that. “The plan is to get her in my new house.” Lois blinked in surprise. “Are you serious? Let’s at least run a background check on her before giving her that much room in your life.” I pouted. “Oh, I never did think that through. I guess that makes sense. Can you help me with that?” “Oh, now you need my help. I thought I didn’t matter much.” “Please don’t be like that. I promise to be well-behaved from now on.” “You should be thankful that my mama loves you. I
Mark’s POV“Karen don’t be stupid. Leave my perfume alone!” I yelled from the kitchen. Karen woke up this morning and thought the best thing to do to keep herself entertained was raid my room while I was eating for things that she could afford to buy for herself. “Hell nah. You stingy ass! You have so much money, yet you won’t let go of things. I am taking it. Do your worst!” She yelled back at me. “You are the silly one who doesn’t know what it means to keep her hands to herself. If anything goes missing I promise to hold you to ransom.” “Whatever!” I shut my eyes tightly, rubbing at my forehead. “How did I end up with that witch in my corner?” I asked no one in particular. Kate who had been quietly chewing her food chuckled. “The both of you are something else. I don’t think I have seen people bicker at each other as much as you do.” “That is because Karen is loose in the head. She is after my life. I just hope this homegoing wouldn’t be pure torture because of her.” I mumbled
Kate’s POVI should have just hired a designated driver. That way I would just get to enjoy the ride without any pressure of focusing on the road. I needed to get out of the house before I ended up losing it. Can’t tell exactly where my annoyance comes from. Either from discussing Rayna with Mark or the entire idea of talking about her. I hate just how much effect she still has on Mark. Always getting him to act kind towards her. It’s as if he is trying to avoid becoming the person he was in the past. And I just wish he would just so he can put her where she belongs. That stupid bitch! I growled slapping the steering wheel. I had gotten so carried away almost hitting a car in front of me. Thankfully, I stopped just in time. It’s not about the money to fix it. I am not just in the best of mood to accommodate anyone. So to avoid another brewing disaster waiting to happen. I drove to one side of the road and parked there. Leaning into the chair, I stared at people as they moved back a
Mark’s POV“How the hell did this happen?” I stared in disbelief at the slashed car tires and broken windshields. “Why would anyone do this?” Lois put his hand on his waist, cursing under his breath. “Kate can’t see this. She would lose her mind.” “Wait a minute. You think this was done by that same person?” “Definitely.” “Whoever it is has gotten very bold from the last time. I can’t believe this is what we have to deal with. We have to call the police.” Lois shook his head. “No, we can’t let Kate know. She is already depressed by the death anniversary.” I sighed tiredly. “That’s true. What do we do?” “We have the car fixed before we take it back home and also check the CCTV around. Let’s not talk about this to anyone else. It should be between us.” I don’t know if I can keep it to myself for long. But I didn’t say that to Lois. “Okay, go get the footage. I will call the car shop.” While Lois went to check the cameras I leaned against the car waiting for it to get towed. We
Mark’s POVRayna blinked rapidly, the expression I saw on her face seemed to fade away too quickly. Now she had a shocked look on her face. “Mark, why would you curse at me like that? You showed me a video that I do not understand and now you are making vile comments at me. I do not appreciate that. If you didn’t want me here, you could have said so. I bet I will just take my leave.” She made a move to stand up. “If you take a step from that place, I will make you regret the day you ever met me. I bet you haven’t seen that side of me. It is why you are so irritatingly bold to mess around with me and any of my things. Sit your fucking ass back down and start telling what it is
Kate’s POVI didn’t realize how much I missed the Diamond pack until this moment. The air feels so different. The people we came with also made it super special with their wits. Karen and Carl wouldn’t stop cracking us up through the entire ride. I have never felt so pleased on a travel before. Even though we are here to celebrate a loss. It doesn’t feel like it. It feels like Jake is still a very part of us. Marilyn had cooked up a storm for our arrival. One would think we were preparing for a packed festival and the family gathered. While they all chatted, I found my way to Jake’s old room. Marilyn has done an amazing job with the room. She left it as we have always known it. It
Kate’s POV“Am I supposed to give some sort of speech?” Lois whispered in my ear as we stood in front of Jake’s grave putting down our flowers. I elbowed him on the side trying not to laugh. A few people were invited to honor Jake with us. Surprisingly the mood wasn’t as gloomy as we would have imagined it to be. Even though Mark hasn’t been much of himself since last night. Marilyn advised we let him be. He needs the time to himself. We returned to the house afterward to entertain the few guests. I know a few of them as Jake’s friends but didn’t associate
Mark’s POVI had to keep myself together by taking my wolf on a long run. Everyone that came had something to say about Dad. How amazing he was and the many help he had rendered then. At one point, I saw the look in their eyes at how much expectations they had of me. Hoping I would be the same as my dad. But I was never like him and I still am not. The overwhelming feeling took over and I just wanted an escape badly. It didn’t help that the people who were invited took their time before taking their leave. Finally, I got the chance to sit at a table with Lois, Carl, and surprisingly’ Miguel.
Kate’s POVThe call was getting intense and I had to park my car by the side of the road to avoid ramming into a truck. I placed the phone right flaring my nose at Mark who seemed to be avoiding my eyes. “Why won’t you just make a report to the authorities since it keeps persisting?” I queried. Mark sat down and groaned. “Kate, it is not as easy as that.” “How? Can you see the harm they have done to you? Is it until one of you can’t be saved that w
Kate’s POV“For someone that went to a party. Why are you chugging down the cereal as if starved?” Karen questioned. I chewed the ones in my mouth slowly trying not to choke. It wasn’t until I got home that I realized I didn’t get to eat anything at the party which doesn’t even sound right. There were varieties of mouth-watering meals on the buffet table. I think the problem was me being too reserved to dive into those premium delicacies. Charles was too preoccupied with himself that he just dropped me at home and drove off. Would probably be pissed that I have to thi
Kate’s POVWhen Charles had boasted about his daughter, I thought she was a pretty little thing. Only to be slammed in the face with a young teen celebrating her thirteenth birthday. And I have to say, there is nothing pretty about her. She acts like a little bitch. Coupled with the fact that she already got her wolf, I pity the meek children she must be attending school with. Daisy my ass. Since I walked into the party space all she has done is order the house workers around and scream at every little thing. When Charles said to go say hello to the birthday girl, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. “Hey, my princess. Meet my friend, Kate.” Charles introduced us.
Dame’s POVI can feel my dick deep in her throat but the excitement wasn’t there. Instead, I feel the strong urge to jam her head right against the wall for being so sloppy. What does she think she is doing gagging like that? Sucking my teeth, I pushed her roughly backward. She blinked like a dummy. “Did I do something wrong, my lord?” She asked. “Yes, you suck. Get the hell out!” I ordered, ruffling my hair. Picking up my whiskey-filled glass, I stared at it
Author’s POV“Was it that fun?” Karen cackled as Kate narrated her date with Charles and how much time they spent together. Kate giggled on the other end. “Believe me, Karen. He is the most interesting man I have ever come across. I want more outings with him and I can’t wait for you to return and meet him. He invited me to his daughter’s birthday this weekend.” “Oh, wow. He has a child and he wants you to meet her already. He sounds like someone who knows exactly what he wants and doesn’t hold back from getting it.”
Kate’s POV“Is it that funny?” Charles asked, taunting me when he knew well that his words were hilarious. It's unlikely that I have had this sort of moment with anyone before. From Charles's words, one can tell just how mischievous he is. Regaling me with tales of his childhood and the silly things he has indulged in being an adult. It was worth calling him. I can’t believe I have been pushing a moment as delightful as this back for a long time. Waving my hand, I cleared my throat. “If we continue this way I might lose my voice. Charles, you are a handful. How is it that you are still single?” I inquired nosily. He is obviously in the same age group as Dame. And men of power like them like to show just how much hold they have on a woman. He shrugged taking a sip of his drink. “Well, it seems my baggage might be too much for others to carry.” Quirking my brow, I asked. “How is that?” “I have a daughter.” He announced. “Oh.” I wasn’t expecting that. Maybe I should have just maint
Kate’s POVNo one told me just how bored one can get when there isn’t much to do or long conversations to get by. After spending two days all by myself I had to come to the conclusion that I can’t do much alone. Lois who would have made it easier for me to cope followed his woman home. She had lost her maternal grandmother and needed the support. Lois had offered that I come with them. But I hate being in an unfamiliar environment with no one to stick to my side through it all. Throwing my arms out, I rolled on the rug countlessly. I have exhausted my wolf so much that she has refused to respond to me. I have done more runs in the woods to clear my head in the last two days than I have ever done in years. If I were her, I would blank out too. I have had long talks with Karen, Marilyn, and Mark. They all seem to be having fun without me. But that sounds silly of me to say knowing no one is stopping me from showing up. Inhaling deeply, I sat up looking around the house as I thought of
Mark’s POVMy eyes remained glued to my phone screen as I took a sip of my drink. I don’t know why she hasn’t called me yet. It’s been over an hour. If that asshole tries anything stupid, I would have him beaten to a pulp. “If you wanted to remain glued to your phone. You shouldn’t have accepted my invitation to come out with me. Are you expecting something or someone?” Carl inquired with his nose up. I clicked my tongue in response. “It’s Karen. She asked that I pick her up from where she went. But I haven’t gotten any message or call from her.” “She is probably still busy where she is. Moreover, when did she arrive?” Early this morning.” I was surprised when she called and said she was arriving at the Diamond Pack airport. I spoke to Kate yesterday and she didn’t mention anything about Karen coming home. It wasn't until Karen told me exactly why that I realized why Kate didn’t say anything. I have always regarded James from afar and didn’t expect him to put up such a crappy att
Kate’s POVLois was right about me not getting over the trauma of being assaulted so quickly. In the past three days since the incident, I have become a scared cat. I close my eyes and Dame with his vicious hands are the things that haunt me. When I am alone, I am on alert glancing back and forth like I fear he would leap out of nowhere and pounce on me. That bastard! Even though I know in my head that he isn’t coming. I still feel anxious no matter how much I try to downplay it. I have worked out persistently to keep my mind focused on something else, but it does very little. The more I see the scar on my neck the more I am reminded of it. Checking the mirror now there are little to no scratches there and it brought relief to me. I finally wouldn’t have to keep seeing it. Karen and Lois have been amazing. Watching over me and treating me like I was truly deserving of all they had to offer. Every day I wake up and thank the goddess for putting this amazing set of people in my life.
