Chapter Seven- Revelation

The drive was long.

I could barely keep my eyes open as I watched the canopy of trees on either side of the road simply blurring by.

I don’t know why I’m so tired. Maybe it was the shift that took a severe toll on me? But then again, I had knocked out afterwards for who knows how long.

The sun was starting to peek over the edge of the skyline so I know it must have been a good few hours. The car ride itself was quiet but I used that as a means to contact my wolf.

‘Aurora? Can you hear me?’

This had been the umpteenth time but again, I got no response.

I had to blanket my disappointment and pretend as if I didn’t notice anything had happened. I should have the energy to run around in wolf form and switch back into my usual form without beating an eye.

Aurora truly was weak and it was all my fault.

I couldn’t even shift properly in time. If I had, the both of us would have had a strong bond.

“We’re here.”

So consumed in my thoughts, I jerk up at the man’s voice. I hadn’t even bothered to ask his name.

My mind was too full of thoughts of my own self.

I’m not sure if that’s selfish or careless.

Hesitantly getting out of the car, I notice the way the place is empty.

It seems to be some sort of pack but this house sits at the back. It isn’t necessarily bigger than the others simply because all of the houses are larger than life. My pack looks like the slums compared to their ostentatious nature.

The house was huge and I had to pretend not to be taken aback by it. It was covered in marble and black accents. High ceilings, large chandeliers and fancy ornaments. I lived in the Alpha house in my pack but even that was nothing compared to this.

We cross a few rooms before we enter into the living room attached to the kitchen.

“Sit down.”

I watched as the man ventured into the kitchen and grabbed a glass before filling it up with water.

I really have lost all my marbles. I’m God knows how far away from my pack. This is some strange man’s house but I’m sitting on a plush sofa, tentatively waiting for some plan of action.

I feel like those silly girls in horror movies.

I glance at the man and wait for some sense of fright to encapsulate me but I don’t feel it. Other than a slight sense of weariness, I find the man nothing but calm and peaceful.

He doesn’t put me on edge or shoot me down with just one look in his eyes like many pack members used to do. He just watches from afar almost how a lion does, gazing upon its cub.

A few moments go by as I watch the man tinker about in the kitchen. He soon shows up with a mug of warmth that smells delightful.

“It’s ginger tea. You’ll feel at ease. It’ll calm your nerves down.”

I gaze into the depths of the honey like gold water. It seems clear and after a discreet sniff, I can only smell the heat of ginger and the sweetness of a touch of honey.

I don’t think he added anything dangerous to it. Then again, I’m clearly much too trusting.

“Have you slipped some drugs into this? I can’t be too trusting. You are a stranger.”

My voice comes out monotonous and I hope that I didn't offend him with my words. It’s just that I can’t be too trusting… Clearly my sister and ex realized that and took advantage of it in the worst way possible.

“Trust me. I’m not that kind of person. If I had to do something, I would have done it already.”

My eyes narrow with suspicion although my heart tells me to pack it in. There’s nothing off putting about this man. From his handsome face to his aura that exudes nothing but confidence and attractive contentment.

“How can I be so sure that you’re not after something.”

I watch as the man sits across from me. He spreads his arms as if he’s sat on his very own throne. The air of confidence triples and it's only then that I catch something.

The air of confidence isn’t fake but very much real. It’s not some built in persona.

That’s when it hits me.

“Wait. You’re an Alpha. You must be.”

The man smirks and cocks his head to the side, taking every inch of me in.

“I’m glad you pieced it together.”

Words die on the tip of my tongue as I think of something else to say.

“That doesn’t mean you’re completely free of blame. You could still want something. Excuse my nature but I'm not the most trusting.”

He nods at my words.

“What could it be that I want? Any ideas?”

I look around his house and I know he doesn’t need or want money. He has enough of it.

“Power? Fame?” I tick the options off with my finger and I’m taken aback by the sharp laugh that rips free of his chest.

My heart drops with the sound and a heat bubbles in my stomach to the point that I shift uncomfortably in my chair.

That shouldn’t sound as attractive as it does.

“You have no idea do you?”

“What?” I question with hesitance.

I truly am lost for words.

“I’m Alpha Gabriel.”

Who?

Realization dawns in my chest when the name finally registers within me.

“Gabriel?”

I notice the way his eyes darken and his eyes fall down to my parted lips.

“Are you who I think you are?”

The man finally looks me in the eye.

“I’m Alpha Gabriel of the Fenrir Pack. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance Avery Rodriguez.”

Oh crap.

I thought I had saved myself but it seems that luck had it out for me.

I had jumped out of the frying pan and straight into the fire.
