Chapter Six

Pembroke

As my Beta and I approached the Pembroke pack, my heart was heavy with dread. The once-bustling pack was now deserted and eerie, with no sign of life since the attack. I got out of my car and slowly closed the door. My warriors had not found anyone here, and no sign of Isla. She had not been here yet because I knew that I would have sensed her being here.

The silence was deafening, and I couldn't help but feel like I was walking through a graveyard. Technically, it was, but all the dead bodies had been taken away. We did not want Isla to see them in the state they were. That would have destroyed her.

I took a deep breath and began to assess the damage to the pack. The buildings were in ruins, with broken windows and doors hanging off their hinges. The smell of smoke and burnt wood hung heavy in the air, and I could see scorch marks on the walls and the ground. It was clear that the pack had put up a fight, but it hadn't been enough.

Chapter Seven Isla’s pov Is Sasha his mate? The sight of Aaron after so long was like a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day, but being back at Pembroke was like a punch in the gut. The place was in ruins, and the memories flooded back, each more painful than the last. I wanted to scream, cry, or do something to release the churning emotions. The charred remains of the building, the stench of smoke, and the debris littered the ground were a stark reminder of what we had lost. Aaron had brought his warriors with him, but it was too little, too late. The damage had already been done, and there was no going back. As I stood there, looking out at the charred remains of Pembroke, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of loss. So many fond memories flooded back to me, memories of happier times when the pack was still intact, and we were all together. Now, all that remained were the ruins of what used to be our home, and the pain of the loss was almost too much to bear. As I gaze

Aaron's POV. Nigel’s mate. I'm glad that my mate is back. Holding her in my arms again feels fantastic. It's like we're finally complete again. But then, there was a commotion. My beta was acting crazy over Isla's new friend, and she seemed afraid. “Are you sure that she is your mate?” I questioned my beta. He nodded. “It's Mrs Jenkins's fault.” isla blurted out, and I was confused even more. When Isla explained what had happened to her, it made sense to me. Mrs Jenkins sounded like a psycho, and we couldn't let her harm either of the girls again. Nigel was convinced that she was his mate, but as she wasn't feeling it, I knew that I had to get her and Isla to safety. I was glad that Isla had someone to help her through this. Suddenly, one of my warriors interrupted us, saying a knocking sound came from one of the buildings. I felt Isla stiffen up and run towards where the warrior had pointed to. She ignored my call. I had to ensure everyone was safe, but Isla wa

The Shock Once back at the packhouse, Nigel and taken Sasha to settle in one of the spare bedrooms and Aaron took charge with organising our survivors and making sure everyone was ok. A few omegas hurried around with blankets and cups of hot drinks. I could feel my heart pounding as I thought about Pembroke and my sister. The memory of their last moments being attacked was still fresh in my mind. The whole pack is gone just like that. It was all so unfair. But then my thoughts turned to the baby I was holding. Cora would be relieved to know that the baby was safe with me. I was determined to protect her, no matter what. Looking around at the other survivors, I could see the shock and trauma etched on their faces. I couldn't blame them for feeling that way. After all, they had just witnessed something truly horrific. For a moment, I felt overwhelmed with emotion. I wanted to break down and cry, to scream at the unfairness of it all. But I knew that I couldn't. I had to b

Isla’s POV “Isla, listen to me. Mrs Jenkins is in prison. She won’t be getting out. However, I have to tell you.” He paused and rubbed his forehead to find the right words. I searched his eyes for answers. My heart was pounding in my chest. “Aaron, what is it?” I stammered. He placed both hands on my shoulders so we were face to face and eye to eye. “Mrs Jenkins was the one behind the attack on Pembroke.” The revelation of Mrs Jenkins as the orchestrator behind the devastation that had occurred in our pack sent shockwaves through the air. She was just an older woman, but the magnitude of her twisted actions stunned us all. “No.” I gasped, clasping a hand over my mouth as he held me. My old pack flashed before me, and I felt anger overwhelm me. That old witch! With determination burning in my eyes, I turned to Aaron. "We can't let her get away with this," I declared, my voice brimming with conviction. "She must face the consequences of her actions." Aaron's gaze met

Aaron’s POV Isla was determined to face that evil old witch and I admired her courage to do so. Mrs Jenkins was pure evil, the fact that she openly admitted to destroying Pembroke left me speechless. The question of why still remained unclear but I was sure that we would get to the bottom of it eventually. I watched as she walked towards the packhouse leaving me and my beta with sasha. They seemed like they were becoming comfortable with each other which was great to see. “Beta Nigel, we need to attend this house where Mrs Jenkins lived. I want Isla guarded and her every move watched. She is not to access the prisoners. Mrs Jenkins is a dangerous witch and I’m unsure if Isla’s wolf will keep from taking over her next time. If she kills that old witch then we will not get the answers that we need.” My beta nodded and turned to Sasha. “I will not be long.” He started to say but I raised my hand. “No, I will go alone with the other pack warriors. I want you to remain here a

Aaron’s POV. Emma's voice trembled with disbelief and familiarity as she uttered my name. Her wide-eyed expression hinted at a more profound connection, one that lurked beneath the surface of her current predicament. Instinctively, I tightened my grip, shielding her from potential harm. "Emma? How do you know who I am?" I questioned, my voice filled with both curiosity and concern. I gently set her down on her feet, allowing her a moment to steady herself, her fragile frame swaying slightly. The young girl's lips quivered as she struggled to find the words. "I... I heard stories about you, about the Alpha who would protect us." Her voice was barely above a whisper as if the weight of her trauma prevented her from speaking louder. "They said you were our last hope." My heart sank as I comprehended the depth of her suffering. Mrs Jenkins' cruel actions had extended far beyond the boundaries of our pack. She had been tormenting innocent beings, exploiting their vulnerability

Isla’s POV “She is dead. I killed that bitch," I spat through gritted teeth, my voice filled with bitter satisfaction. The weight of those words hung heavy in the air, releasing a toxic mix of anger and triumph that intoxicated my senses. Emma gasped at my admission while Aaron sat observing me, not taking his eyes off me. “Isla, where are you going with this?” He asked with an eyebrow raised. “ that baby was Mora’s, and my sister took her on as her own with Miller. And now their dead because of that evil Mrs Jenkins, who we have locked up downstairs in the cells. I want to go and personally kill her myself.” “Isla, no. You can’t be doing that. I still have questions for her. She cannot do any more damage locked up down there. She is fully guarded and unable to escape.” Aaron assured me, but I frowned. She was evil and more clever than any of us could ever realise. “She knew who I was when she first looked at me,” I grumbled. “So Emma. Tell me. What was it your mo

Aaron’s POV It won't be easy facing my family's disapproval, but I know they will come around once they see that Isla is my everything. As a hybrid, Isla possesses incredible powers and strength, making her an asset to our pack. However, I also worry about the dangers of her hybrid nature. The fact that Emma's mother was murdered just for withholding information about the hybrid baby proves that others may try to harm Isla or our loved ones. It's a terrifying thought, and it keeps me on constant high alert. I can't let my guard down for a moment. Isla's safety, as well as the safety of our pack, depends on it. Isla is worth fighting for, and I will stop at nothing to ensure her safety. We will face the challenges ahead, united and stronger than ever. No matter what obstacles we encounter, our love will prevail. My father and brother may challenge me for my alpha status once they hear of Isla’s true identity. It ripped my father apart when my mother died in that attack. T

Luke pov The black wolf snarled, his eyes narrowing with fury as he calculated his next move. We were no longer just a pack of wolves; we were a force of nature, an unquenchable flame ignited by our collective resilience and unity. With every heartbeat, the anticipation surged through us, amplifying each flicker of power as we stood against him, determined to banish the darkness that had haunted the edges of our lives. “Enough!” he roared, charging at me, the darkness pooling around him in a furious torrent. I could feel the malevolence radiating off him like heat from a fire, trying to instil fear within our hearts. Yet, as he bore down on me, I could see the uncertainty behind that ferocity. He was no longer the predator; he was desperate. “Together!” I shouted again, urging my pack to rally. Carrie and Ryder poured their strength into the barrier of light that Rachel had conjured, reinforcing it as we prepared for his assault. As the black wolf lunged toward me, time seeme

Luke pov As the shadows slowly began to release their grip on me, an instinctive anger ignited within, burning hotter than the darkest depths of the void that had threatened to swallow me whole. All around, I could sense my pack gathering strength—Carrie’s fierce determination, Ryder’s unyielding loyalty, and Rachel's frightened yet resolute presence in the corner of my mind. Our shared bond pulsed like a heartbeat, commanding me to fight back.“You think you can break free?” the black wolf taunted, his voice echoing through the night like thunder. “This realm belongs to the darkness now!”Ignoring his bravado, I focused on the shared energy radiating from my packmates. Each heartbeat was a reminder of what we stood to lose. We were more than just a collection of wolves—we were a family woven together by our struggles, victories, and unbreakable bonds. “Together!” I shouted, pulling every ounce of strength from my soul and feeling the power surge to the surface. “We won’t give in!”

As we pulled away from the embrace, I felt the weight of our previous argument still hanging in the air. I could see that a cautious acceptance was slowly replacing my mother's worry, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something more sinister was lurking beyond our immediate concerns. We gathered the rest of the pack for an emergency meeting, each member looking apprehensive. The day's events had spread like wildfire, and now everyone was on edge. I stood before them, clearing my throat to capture their attention.“I know today was a close call,” I began, my voice steady despite the adrenaline rush still coursing through me. “But we are stronger than we realise. The rogues won’t just back off easily. They will come again, and when they do, we need to be prepared.”Ryder stepped forward, his eyes flashing with intensity. “I suggest we step up patrols immediately. We’ve already started gathering everyone for a watch rotation. We can’t let them have the upper hand.” The pack murmured

Luke’s POV As we stood there, the rogues slowly backing away, Carrie's voice echoed through the cave. I could sense her power building, knowing she was getting angry. Her eyes were blazing with fierce determination, and I could see the wolves within her starting to stir."You're not taking anyone else from my pack," she growled, her voice low and menacing.Ryder, still in his wolf form, let out a snarl, and I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. The two remaining rogues took another step back, their eyes darting between us.I took a step forward, my power growing in response to Carrie's. "You're not going to hurt anyone else," I said, my voice firm. The rogues hesitated for a moment, then turned and ran. We let them go, knowing that they wouldn't be able to escape for long. We had won this battle, but we knew that there would be more to come.I glanced over at Ryder, who was still in his wolf form. He was panting heavily, his eyes still burning with anger. I coul

Luke’s pov We returned to the pack, exhausted but determined. Our parents were already there, discussing the situation with the other pack members. "I think we should split our pack into smaller groups and patrol the surrounding areas," my father suggested. "We need to catch these rogues off guard and take them down before they can do any more harm." I nodded in agreement. "I think that's a good idea, father. But we also need to come up with a plan to protect Carrie. She's the key to this whole thing." Carrie looked up at me, her eyes still flashing with anger. "I don't need protection," she growled. "I can take care of myself." But I knew that wasn't true. The rogues were too strong, too cunning. She needed our help to stay safe. Even if she was powerful and able to beat anyone down. We still needed to protect her as she got used to her powers and understood them better. Ryder suddenly stepped forward. "I'll stay with her," he said. "We'll keep her safe, no matter wha

Luke’s POV “Rachel, go fetch my parents,” I yelled as she ran to alert my pack. Carrie and Ryder remained with me. I wouldn't let anything happen to her, and as the future alpha, I had to stand my ground. “What do you want from this pack? Why don't you leave and never return? You're not welcome here.” I growled as the prominent rogue leader finally stood before us. He eyed me curiously before a cunning smirk formed on his face. “You came to the city. Your sister came after you. She was nice enough to leave her portal open so we could return here. What we want is behind you.” he answered gruffly. I glanced to my side and realised that he was referring to Carrie. He wanted Carrie. All this was about my sister. “We have been searching for her for many years now. You see, she isn't like any of you. She isn't one of you.” he explained, and I felt my sister tremble with confusion behind me. “You're not taking her anywhere. She's my mate.” Ryder snarled, and I held him

What was his story? And what did he have to do with my sister? My mother's words echoed in my mind - "stop her". But I knew it was too late. Carrie was determined to follow her heart, regardless of anyone else's thoughts. And as much as I wanted to protect her, I knew that trying to stop her would only push her further away.I turned back to my parents, who stared at me with worry and despair. My father's expression was etched with concern, while my mother's face was wet with tears."Luke, please," she said, her voice shaking. "You have to talk to her. Make her see reason."I shook my head, feeling a pang of guilt. I wanted to believe there was still a way to turn back the clock, to make Carrie see that this guy wasn't good enough for her. Carrie’s POV I could feel the weight of my parents' disapproval bearing down on me as we walked away from them. I knew they would never understand me, never accept Ryder as my mate. But I didn't care. I was done being controlled, done being told what to do and who to be with. Ryder squeezed my hand, his grip tight and reassuring. "We'll figure it out," he said, his voice low and steady. "We'll find a way to stop the rogue wolves and ensure you're safe." I nodded, feeling a sense of determination wash over me. We would do it, no matter what my parents said or did. We would find a way to make this work. As we walked, the trees seemed to grow taller and darker around us, casting long shadows across the forest floor. I could feel the moon rising above us, its light casting an otherworldly glow over everything. "Where are we going?" Ryder asked, his eyes scanning the surroundings. "I don't know," I admitted. "I just know I can't go back there. Not now." Ryd

I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself down, but my mind was racing with thoughts of Ryder and the danger he was in. I knew my parents were trying to protect me, but I couldn't shake the feeling that they didn't understand.“Carrie, your mother is correct. We don't know him at all. He could be anyone.” my father agreed with my mother. Not that I could expect anything different since they never disagreed over anything. "MOTHER, FATHER!
