"She’s going to be fine. I think it’s the trauma from that night that caused her to pass out," I said as I stood by Payton’s bed, watching her sleep peacefully. But I knew she had been through so much.

"Seeing that woman on the screen must have upset my daughter again," Lady Jane cried.

I never had a mother to spend time with, so witnessing a mother break down for her daughter was really emotional for me.

"But the worst part is over. I remember Payton saying she was worried about that woman coming back for her someday. But now that she’s gone, I think Payton will finally be at ease." I gave Lady Jane a comforting hug before stepping back to look at Payton.

"Carena," her eyes filled with fresh tears, but this time they were tears of gratitude. I smiled for her because of the affection in her eyes for me.

"Even when we mistreated you and hurt your feelings nonstop, you never did anything wrong to us. You took care of my daughter in a way that even her own sister, if she had one,
