Meera’s POV

I stood at the edge of the stairs, my breath shallow, my body tensing as the sneeze tickled the back of my throat. It was almost unbearable. My eyes watered, and I could feel my nostrils twitching with the impending eruption. Holding my breath, I fought it, wanting to be in control. I didn’t want to show any weakness in front of him. But, of course, just as I thought I could manage it, the sneeze came crashing through, an involuntary explosion of air. It echoed through the house, bouncing off the walls like a distant gunshot. I rubbed my nose hastily, frustrated with my own body.

At the top of the stairs, I waited. Still, I had to admit I was feeling a little impatient. The clock was ticking. There was no time to waste. I could hear my father’s movements coming from upstairs, the creak of his footsteps signaling his descent. I took a deep breath, the air sharp as it filled my lungs, and turned to face the living room.

I couldn’t stand waiting any longer. If he wasn’t going

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 8:A Man For Me

Lyra’s povI sat at the end of the cell, my knees hugged tightly to my chest. The rough stone walls of the prison seemed to close in around me, the weight of the day pressing down on my chest like an iron fist. The echoes of the laborers' anger still rang in my ears, their faces twisted in fury, their voices laced with mockery. It wasn’t just the physical pain that bothered me—no, it was the way they looked at me, as if I were nothing more than a broken tool to be used and discarded.I rubbed my chest, the ache sharp, and my mind wandered back to the prison yard. The way the guards barked orders, the way I was treated like a lesser being. Even my uncle’s cruelty seemed kinder compared to the torment of being here, in this hellhole.Just when I thought I might crack under the weight of it all, a sudden burst of noise broke through the suffocating silence. It started as a faint murmur, then grew louder, like a wave crashing against a shore. Trembling voices filled the air, their despera

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 9:She won’t leave without a fight!

Lyra’s POV His lips twitched into something between a grin and a snarl. "You’re a firebird, aren’t you? I like that." He withdrew his hand slowly, the amusement never leaving his face. "You will be mine, Lyra. Whether you accept it or not.""Is that supposed to scare me?" I asked, my voice sharp. "Because it doesn’t."His smile faded, replaced by a steely look. "It will."I stared at him, defiant, refusing to let him see the flicker of fear that threatened to rise. I wasn’t going to bend. I wasn’t going to break."Maybe not," he mused, his fingers curling into a fist. "But I’ll make you want to be. And when you do, you’ll realize just how little control you ever had."The sharp wind outside the prison cut through me like a blade, but it wasn’t the cold that chilled me now—it was the weight of Miss Caroline’s words, still echoing in my mind, rattling through my chest like a death knell. I’m nothing. Her voice, venomous and cold, played on a loop in my thoughts, each repetition digging

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 10:Into the Unknown

Lyra’s POVThe heavy chains rattled with every step I took, my heart a wild thrum beneath my ribs. The air was thick with the scent of sweat, the grim, overpowering odor of men and women bound together by fate. This place—this wretched place—wasn't unfamiliar. No, I knew it well. It was the other side of the cage I had once been locked in. The place I feared and fought against with every ounce of strength. But this time, there was no escape.I inhaled sharply, the sharp tang of metal stinging my nostrils. The guards' boots echoed behind me, their sharp, heavy steps a reminder of the power they held over my fragile existence. One of them, a burly man with a jagged scar that ran from his temple down to his cheek, glanced over at me, his eyes cold, unreadable. He didn’t speak, but I could feel the weight of his gaze, the judgment in his silence."Keep walking," the second guard snapped, shoving me forward with a force that nearly knocked me off balance. I stumbled but caught myself, grit

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 11:Continuation of the Unknown

Lyra’s POVI flinched at his words, but said nothing. I couldn't. I wasn’t sure how to respond anymore. It was all a lie, all a game, and I was just a pawn caught in it. My mind was too clouded with fear, too heavy with doubt. The guards exchanged a glance before the second one spoke again. "We’ll leave you to get settled. Don’t try anything funny." His smile was dark, devoid of warmth, like he was looking forward to whatever came next. With a final, lingering look at me, the guards exited, leaving the door ajar. The heavy silence descended upon me once again.I hadn’t even realized how tightly I had been holding my breath until the air felt somewhat clearer, though no less oppressive. My heart still thudded painfully in my chest, my senses on high alert. But I wasn’t alone for long. The sound of footsteps approached from the hallway, soft at first, then growing closer. The door creaked open again, and a woman stepped into the room, holding a tray of food. She was tall, her figure gra

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 12:STUBBORN LITTLE HELLION

Vincenzo’s POVI had finally gotten her. The stubborn little hellion, the one who had dared to speak back to me, who had made me lose my patience in front of everyone. Lyra. That woman was a problem, a puzzle I couldn’t wait to solve. If she thought her defiance would protect her, she had no idea what she was in for. The chain around her neck was a small token of my control, a reminder that she was mine now.As I descended the grand staircase of my mansion, my hand lazily resting on the polished wood of the railing, I felt a satisfaction in the air. This was going to be a night to remember. She wasn’t going to make things easy for me, I knew that. But nothing about this game would be easy. It never was.I passed a servant near the drink cart, and without a word, I motioned for a glass of wine. A small, subtle gesture. I didn’t need to say much. The servant hurried off to fill my request. The wine, deep and red, would be perfect—dark, heavy, just like the night ahead of us. I needed s

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 13:She Wants An End

Vincenzo’s POVShe twisted in my grip, trying to break free. “I’ll never bend to you,” she snapped, her voice steady but filled with venom.I threw her onto the bed with force, this time ensuring that she stayed there. Her body bounced against the mattress, and I heard the chain rattle as it caught on the frame. She scrambled to sit up, but I was already towering over her, my shadow swallowing her whole.“Stay,” I ordered. Her lip curled, and she gave me a look that was almost too arrogant for my liking. “You’re wasting your time.”I reached down and grabbed her by the chin, forcing her to look me in the eye. “It’s not about wasting time, Lyra,” I said softly, my voice dark. “It’s about making sure you understand your place. You don’t get to run from this. You don’t get to tell me what to do.”She pushed my hand away, but there was a hesitation in her movement. A slight tremor in her fingers. She was trying not to show it, but I could see it in the way she flinched when I touched her.

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 14:CRAZY MEETING

Meera’s POVThe boardroom felt suffocating, the air thick with tension. The usual hum of polite conversation had morphed into an endless squabble, each person fighting for their own agenda. The voices grew louder, overlapping, one accusation after another. Every word felt like a dagger to my chest, but none of them seemed to care. I stood frozen at the head of the table, my hands gripping the edges so hard my knuckles turned white."I told you this wouldn't work!" Raymond’s voice boomed across the room, his face flushed red. "We're not signing anything until we have a better guarantee.""I’m not going to keep going in circles with you!" Claire shot back, her arms folded across her chest, eyes narrowed. "Your numbers are a joke, Raymond. They were wrong from the start!"They didn't even notice me anymore, just locked in their own battle of egos and stubbornness. This was supposed to be the deal that would save my company, that would turn everything around. But instead, it felt like it

Meera’s POVI couldn’t tell if he was being sincere or if this was just another one of his manipulative tactics, but for a moment, I let myself believe in his words. For a moment, I wanted to believe that maybe he wasn’t just another obstacle, another player in this cutthroat game.I shook my head, a dry laugh escaping my lips. "You think it’s that simple?""It can be," he said softly. "But only if you stop pretending you have to do everything on your own."His gaze held mine, unflinching, waiting for me to say something. But what could I say? What could I possibly offer in a situation where I had already lost so much?"I can’t fix this," I said, barely more than a whisper, the weight of those words heavier than I could bear.Gabriel didn’t release my wrist, but his expression softened, his thumb still tracing gentle circles. "No one expects you to. But you don’t have to fight it alone anymore."For a second, just a split second, I allowed myself to believe that maybe, just maybe, I w

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 45

Marcello’s POVI leaned back in the rusted steel chair, arms crossed over my chest as I watched the woman they dragged into the visitor block—Meerah, they said her name was. She looked like she belonged in some glossy magazine, not here in the Hell Pit. The contrast was almost laughable. Her sleek coat was smeared with gravel dust, one of her heels broken. Her lipstick smeared like blood at the corner of her mouth.Good.She looked like a storm had blown through her, and I knew exactly who that storm was—Lyra. The guards had separated them, but not before the damage had been done. And now, here she was. Sitting in front of me. Breathing hard. Shaking, though she tried to hide it.“What the hell are you doing here?” I asked, my voice sharp and low, laced with a growl that had made stronger men piss themselves. She blinked at me like I’d spoken another language.“I came to see Lyra,” she said, chin tilting up defiantly, though her voice trembled just a little.I slammed my fist on the m

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 44: THE VISIT

Lyra’s POV“Get the hell up, Lyra, you have a visitor.”The guard’s voice was a growl, thick with annoyance as he slammed his palm against the iron bars. The sharp clang echoed through the cold, moldy walls of my cell like a death bell.A visitor?I squinted against the weak beam of sunlight filtering through the barred window. In five months—five long, soul-chewing months—not a single soul had come to see me. Not even to spit in my direction.“What? Are you deaf now?” the guard barked, pulling the chains that shackled my wrists to the wall. “Move!”My legs, stiff and sore from days of barely moving, wobbled beneath me. Heavy chains clanked with each step as I shuffled forward, wrists bound, ankles trapped. The guard shoved me hard in the back, nearly sending me to the filthy floor.“I said move!”“I heard you the first time, Shrek,” I muttered, just loud enough for him to catch. He grunted but didn’t respond. Probably used to inmates cracking from being locked away. But I wasn’t crac

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 43

Vincenzo’s POVI stared at Frank for a moment, the tension simmering just beneath my skin. The ballroom's golden chandeliers blurred in the background as if the world had shifted out of focus and left only his words hanging—she likes you.A slow grin cracked my face, disbelief wrestling with hope. I threw my drink—an obnoxiously expensive glass of scotch—over my shoulder. It smashed on the marble floor with a satisfying crack! Heads turned. I didn’t care."FRANK!" I bellowed, flinging my arms open and grabbing him in a crushing bear hug. He smelled like cheap cologne and bad decisions. "You’ve got the best damn view in the house!"Frank coughed. "Vince, I think my spine just cracked.""Shut up and feel appreciated, you sentimental hedgehog!" I released him and stepped back, slapping both hands on his shoulders. "You saw it. You saw it! Lyra looked at me like I was the only man in the room!""I mean," Frank began cautiously, eyes darting toward the shattered remains of my scotch, "she

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 42

Marcello’s POVI was in my chamber sipping my wine when the door was angrily pushed open. I knew it would be her—no one else stormed into my private quarters like that.I didn’t flinch. I didn’t look up. I merely took another sip, letting the sharp, aged taste of the red run over my tongue as I settled further into the velvet chair. I snickered softly.“Rebekah,” I said, her name a calm ripple in the storm that was about to break. “To what do I owe this... delightful intrusion?”“You bought her,” she spat, voice shaking with fury. “You bought Lyra.”I lifted my gaze, finally meeting hers. Her chest rose and fell quickly, her hands clenched at her sides, eyes ablaze. Her beauty always intensified when she was furious—like a storm about to rip the sky open.“So she told you,” I murmured, letting the glass dangle lazily from my fingers. “That surprises me. She hardly speaks to me at all.”“You’re not answering the question,” she snapped, stepping forward. Her boots struck the marble like

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 41

Lyra’s POV“I can't occupy everywhere if it’s a joke to you. I’m a bit too slim and tall for that. I don’t have the luxury of blending into tight corners like a mouse or sliding between bars like some rogue in a fairy tale.” I tried to explain myself to Rebekah, who had appeared outside my cell with a glint in her eye that suggested she found all of this a bit too entertaining. She sat down on the stone bench beside me—closer than I expected—like we were longtime friends catching up. Her face hovered near mine, scanning my expression with the curiosity of someone watching a particularly juicy drama unfold. My eyes must’ve told the story already. Stressed. Tired. Worn out like a shirt that had been through too many washes and too many bad days.“You look like someone used you to clean the floor,” she said, not even bothering to sugarcoat it. “Your eyeballs are screaming, girl.”I huffed, folding my arms over my bony chest. “Thanks, Rebekah. Nothing like being compared to a rag to brigh

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 40: A Fresh Start

Meera’s POVGabriel snorted. “They look like they’d taste like old money and cruelty.”I laughed—sharp and sudden—and it startled both of us. I hadn’t realized how close I was to shattering until the sound escaped.Gabriel reached across the gearshift and laced his fingers with mine. “We’ll figure it out. I’ve got some cash. I mean, not mansion-cash. But enough.”“I don’t care about the money,” I whispered.“I know. That’s what scares him.” He glanced over. “You’re the only thing in his world that doesn’t have a price tag.”I stared at him, at the curve of his jaw, the tiny scar near his eyebrow from when he fell off his skateboard last year, the way he looked at me like I was human—messy, complicated, and still worth choosing.“Where are we going?” I asked. He smiled. “Anywhere but there.”Which turned out to be a 24-hour diner that smelled like burnt coffee and salvation. We slid into a booth with cracked red vinyl seats, steam clinging to the windows, everything humming with fluore

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 39: Decisions

Meera’s POV“I’m not having this conversation again.” I crossed my arms and leaned back into the velvet couch like it was my throne. “You hate Gabriel. We get it. Move on.”Dad stood by the fireplace like some overgrown villain from a period drama, one hand wrapped around a crystal glass of scotch he hadn’t even sipped. He wasn’t drinking. He was brooding.“You’re throwing your future away for a boy with no legacy, no—no direction,” he snapped. “Do you know what the Sinclairs think about this?”“The Sinclairs can choke.” I said it calmly, too calmly, which I knew would needle him more than screaming. His eyes flared. “Meerah.”“Don’t Meerah me,” I shot back. “You act like I’m bringing home some street criminal. He’s smart, kind, and he doesn’t kiss your ass, which, let’s be honest, is the real issue here.”Dad laughed, the kind of cruel, clipped sound that made my stomach twist. “Kind? Is that what you think this boy is? Sweetheart, he’s a parasite. Clinging onto my daughter for a tas

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 38: LET ME GO

Marcello’s POVShe flinched when I entered. Like my shadow alone was poison.I shut the door behind me and said nothing at first. Just stood there, staring at the girl who haunted my nights and defied me by day.“Lyra,” I said softly, taking a step toward her.She shrank back immediately, pressing herself into the carved headboard. “Don’t touch me.”I paused. My hands lifted instinctively—open, calm, as if that would undo what she’d just lived through.“I’m not going to hurt you,” I said.“You already did,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “Why are you like this?”I felt something coil inside me. Something old and cold.“You belong to me,” I said, slowly, carefully. “No one else gets to speak into your life. Especially not her.”She blinked, her lips trembling. “Her. You mean Rebekah?”I didn’t answer.“You lied to me.” Her voice grew stronger, edged with fury. “You never told me she was your ex. Why?”“That is none of your concern,” I snapped. She flinched again. I gritted my teeth

  • Sweet Mafia Protector   Chapter 37: The woman from the mirror

Marcello's POVDamn it.That deranged woman finally got to her.Rebekah. That name alone made my jaw clench. I could see her fiery silhouette just beyond the corridor, her voice a venom-laced lullaby winding its way into Lyra’s unsuspecting ears. My blood boiled. Only the heavens knew what poison she was whispering. I couldn’t let her think she was special. Not Lyra. Not the slave I hadn’t yet broken.I turned on my heel, boots slamming against the marble floor of the estate. The guards flinched when they saw the thunder in my eyes. I brushed past them, my stride long, calculated—each step meant to erase every word Rebekah dared plant in Lyra’s naive head.As I approached the grand hall, my voice thundered across the walls like a coming storm.“LYRA!”Both of them turned.Lyra’s eyes went wide. Hope flickered in them, fleeting, foolish. She took a step back as I closed the distance.“Get out. NOW,” I barked. She froze, trembling, lips parting to protest.I didn’t give her the chance.
