Chapter Three ~ Other plans

We were in my dad’s car heading towards the Soulcrest pack. I’d asked my dad to stop off at a mall on the way so I could buy a new phone. Aubrey and Bella had been blowing mine up all night, so the thing went for a swim in the toilet. I needed to focus on the plan. It was about time I started acting like an Alpha, not a lovesick teenager.

I’d bought a new cell and texted Connor. He was the only one I could trust with anything. Arabella made it clear that her loyalty laid with Aubrey. I understood, it was the way of the werewolf sorority. Werewolf girls needed to stick together. When any of them went into heat, it was brutal. Male werewolves from miles around became aggressive and fights broke out regularly.

The sorority was set up many generations ago. It was a safe haven for all un-bonded she-wolves in the territory. They all stuck together and had plans in place to hide away the she-wolves while they went through their heat. Without complete trust and loyalty, the system wouldn’t work.

In the old days, when a she-wolf went into heat, male werewolves would compete with each other, the winner taking the girl for himself and marking her. The poor girl didn’t have much choice who she ended up with. So, I completely understood her reasoning. She didn’t want to let her sisters down, but that meant that I couldn’t trust her to have my best interests at heart.

I let Connor know that I was heading out of town, and I would contact him when I’d be returning. I didn’t know how long I’d be away for, but I would keep him posted. I placed my phone back in my pocket and sighed. I knew the plan, knew what I had to do, and I was ready.

We finally pulled off the main road and onto a private drive. Once we were outside the giant house, we all got out of the car. Standing at the door ready to greet us was a large man with dark hair. I could smell that he was an Alpha. Beside him stood a small blonde-haired woman. I guessed they were Olivia's parents.

My mom and dad walked ahead and greeted the pair. It was all pleasant handshakes and hugs, and when they were finished greeting each other, they all turned their attention to me.

Well, that’s fucking creepy, I thought while they all stood there staring at me with cheesy grins on their faces. I awkwardly cleared my throat and held my hand out for Alpha Stonefeather to shake.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Alpha Stonefeather.”

He smiled widely at me and as he shook my hand, he pulled me into a hug. With a chuckle he said,

“You’re virtually family. Call me Charlie.”

My face was squashed up against his chest. The guy was surprisingly solid for his age. Our culture was a strange one. By the time I got used to this guy, built up some sort of relationship, it would be time to fight him to the death. I didn’t understand how old traditions like this were allowed to continue in this day and age, but it was what it was.

After a rough pat on my back, he finally let me go. He held onto my shoulders and pushed me away from him slightly. After a quick scan down and back up, he smiled and patted my shoulder, before turning away and ushering my father into the house. I kinda felt like a piece of meat, or a second-hand car being given the once over, but it was the way of some packs.

Not all packs allowed their Scion daughters the chance at a normal human childhood. Most Scions knew exactly what they were and what was expected of them. A lot of packs, tribes, and broods still had arranged marriages. It was pretty barbaric really. Basically, the Scion went to whoever offered the father the most.

Luckily for Olivia, her parents cared somewhat about who they wanted for their daughter. They were a wealthy oil industry pack from what my father had told me, so money wasn’t of concern for them. Our family made our money in property development, so money wouldn’t have been an issue if we needed it as an offering.

Charles and Theia were more interested in making sure their daughter married an Alpha. They didn’t like the idea of her marrying another type of shifter. Some leaders didn’t care. Money and power drove their decisions. For Oliva's family, it was important to keep their bloodline pure. That was a concern for my family too, they wanted a werewolf Scion for me.

After greeting Theia, I was escorted into the house. It was very grand and beautiful. They had maids and pack members everywhere, but after an hour of pleasantries, there was still no sign of Olivia. I knew this was an arranged marriage, but I still needed to see the woman I would be spending the rest of my life with.

I was trying to change and do the right thing for my pack, but I was pretty shallow as a person. Some people say that its personality that counts, and I agree somewhat. You can be attracted to someone’s personality, but I’ll be honest, you still need some sort of physical attraction, or at least I do.

I sat there picturing what she would look like, but all my mind could picture was Aubrey. I sighed and stared off into space as my parents and the Stonefeather’s worked out all the details and plans for mine and Olivia’s marriage. I couldn’t help it, but my heart was hurting so much, all I really wanted was Aubrey, she was the only person I could picture myself with.

Then there she was. Her scent hit my nose, long before my eyes met hers. She was nervously standing by the door, twirling a curl of her golden blonde hair around her finger. When her eyes met mine, her cheeks blushed. I couldn’t deny the girl was an absolute stunner. Maybe this could work? I thought while clearing my throat.

“Ah, Olivia. Nice of you to finally grace us with your presence,” her father said while standing and ushering her over to us.

I swept my hand through my hair expecting her to blush again, but she didn’t. Out the corner of my eye, I saw a woman slinking towards the front door. She was a beautiful mixed-race woman, with dark hair that was dyed purple at the ends. It swept over to the side and loose curls framed her face, while the other side was shaved short.

When I sniffed the air, I could tell she was a rare human shifter. She glanced over toward Olivia and smiled sweetly, and while her cheeks blushed, it dawned on me that she was the reason why Olivia was so flustered. They were an item. I was sure of it. I’d seen that look many times before, it was one of love and adoration.

The woman noticed me staring, and no sooner had her eyes met mine, she pulled the door open and hurried out. As soon as the door clicked, Olivia cleared her throat and confidently made her way over to her parents. She kissed her father and mother, then sat down beside her mom on the couch. Her parents hadn’t noticed the woman leaving and continued to chat away with my mom and dad, and after a while they excused themselves, saying they had business to discuss and that Olivia and I needed time to get acquainted.

I watched silently as my parents left the room, followed by Charles and Theia. Olivia escorted them to the door and gently closed it behind them. I casually stretched my arms across the back of the couch and rested one of my legs on top of the other. This should be good, I thought as I prepared myself for whatever bullshit Olivia was going to spin me.

She sighed while facing the door. I was expecting her to play along with the shenanigans, but she didn’t. She spun around, placed her hands on her hips, and began to ramble.

“Right, I’m just gonna lay it on the line. I’m not interested in you. I will never be interested in you. So, you might as well just tell your parents that it didn’t work out. We don’t get along, and I’m not the girl for you. Got it?”

My brow raised, and I couldn’t help it, her little speech and the dominance she tried to show was adorable and beyond comical. I burst out laughing, and when her face twisted into a look of pure anger, I folded over as my laughter hit an all-new high. I could hear her gasp in shock, and I guessed I looked pretty silly to her, but I couldn’t believe what was happening.

I had spent the last few days convincing myself that I needed to let Aubrey go, needed to move on, and now, well now that didn’t look like it was going to happen. I couldn’t help but wonder if it was a weird twist of fate. Olivia was clearly in a relationship with that shifter, and there was me thinking that she was going to be the one to help me get over Aubrey. I guess the universe had other plans.

Once my laughter ceased, I glanced up at Olivia. She stood in front of me with her hands on her hips and a completely unimpressed look on her face. I sat upright and composed myself.“What’s so damn funny?” She snapped at me, and I found it hard not to chuckle again.I decided to wind her up, I couldn’t help it, she looked like such a cute little angry woman.“What if I don’t want to?”“Huh?” She asked in confusion.I stood up and strolled towards her. I slipped my hand around her waist, resting it on the small of her back, before yanking her body close to mine. With my other hand I swept her long blonde hair behind her ear as I leaned in. As my breath brushed against her cheek, I could hear her heart speeding up, her breathing became labored, and I knew she was attracted to me on some level.I made sure my voice was low and smooth as I said,“What if I say no. All three of us had changed into our pajamas. If someone walked in right now, I’m sure they'd assume we were some sort of throuple. Olivia had booked the penthouse suite, so we had two bedrooms a living room, little kitchen, and two bathrooms. I swear it was bigger than most people’s apartments. Not that I was complaining. We ordered in Chinese and sat down to discuss their lives and my plan. They told me how they met, how they fell in love, and although it warmed my heart, it made me miss Aubrey even more. I sat there noticing every little giggle, or look that they gave each other, every delicate touch, they were so in love. I tried to remember if Aubrey ever acted like that with me, and I couldn’t remember a single time. She'd never looked at me like that, sure she'd blush or bite her lip, but that was more sexual chemistry. What these guys had was pure love. While Claudia and Olivia were chatting, I stood up and made my way toward the kitchen. I op

That night at the hotel we talked for hours, going through plans, throwing ideas out there, and smoothing them out. We made our way back to Olivia's house the next day, after dropping Claudia off with her tribe. We convinced our parents that we wanted a courting period. It wasn’t an unusual request; a lot of Scions chose to date a potential mate for a while before making a permanent decision.Luckily for me, my parents had no reason to suspect anything, and Olivia's were just happy that she was finally showing an interest in a future Alpha. My parents went home, while I was moved into a spare room within the Stonefeather household. Claudia had agreed to stay away for a few weeks at least. In the early stages of this, we couldn’t risk any suspicion.A faint tap on my bedroom door stirred me a little. I groaned and rolled over in bed. It was a few seconds before another tap wrapped on the door. This time it was louder and more urgent. I sat up in bed and turn

“Chase? Chase, are you okay?” Olivia's faint voice called out to me.My head was thumping, like I had a hangover or something. I gradually opened my eyes and tried to sit up, but my body was weak. I barely lifted my head an inch off of the pillow before collapsing back down.“Hold his head up,” a woman’s voice ordered. I recognized her from the chanting.A hand slid under my neck and gently pulled my head up slightly. Someone placed a glass to my lips, and the stench of the liquid made me gag. I tried to pull my head away, but a set of strong hands held my head in place. Another hand pinched my nose closed as the disgusting liquid was poured into my mouth.I gulped and gagged as the thick sludge slipped down my throat. Once it was all gone, my head was rested back onto the pillow, but it didn’t stay there long. I twisted to the side and vomited all over the floor. As I coughed and spluttered, a fresh glass of water came

Six weeks went by and our plan to fool Olivia’s parents was going well. They had pretty much adopted me as their son. We had worked out a plan with the Tintagel triplets to be able to get Olivia and Claudia married, without implicating myself or my pack. We had a few more meetings scheduled so that we could run over the finer details some more.Today was one of those meetings. As far as Charles and Theia were aware, Olivia and I were heading off for a romantic long weekend. What we were really doing was going to the triplet’s house for the night, then Olivia and Claudia were going away for two days to celebrate their three-year anniversary. I’d be staying behind at Irene and her brother’s house until the girls got back.I had already packed my bag and had a shower. I got dressed and dried my hair. While styling it with some gel there was a tap in the door.“Come in.”“Oh my God, it smells like you’ve showere

After drinking way too much beer, eating way too much pizza, and watching a bunch of crappy horror films, I’d finally crawled down the hall towards my room. Olivia had gone to bed upstairs hours ago, but me and the guys stayed up. I must have fallen asleep at some point, and when I woke my body was aching from the strange position I’d fallen asleep in.Leaving the guys sleeping in the living room, I continued to make my way down the hall. As my hand grabbed hold of the door handle to my room a delicious and irresistible scent hit my nose. A growl began to rumble in my chest as my hand squeezed tightly around the door handle. I frantically sniffed at the air, and as I turned to follow it, I ripped the door handle clean off of the door. The noise must have woken the guys because when I began to sprint towards a door at the end of the hall, I heard chanting behind me. I took no notice and picked up my speed. I needed to get to that scent. It was like my body h

I spent all day asking Irene questions. Her brothers had long given up and headed to bed, and Olivia had left for her weekend with Claudia. It was just me and Irene, and I couldn’t deny that it felt so natural being around her. We'd ordered in some food, eaten it, and we now sat on the couch together having a drink. The triplet’s story was a dark one, to say the least. Irene explained that her mom was a young werewolf who had been kidnapped by a black magic coven. They were the worst of the worst in the magic community and kept themselves well hidden. They had a prophecy that said if they were able to impregnate a werewolf that was the seventh daughter of the seventh son, they would bring forth a litter of the strongest witches the world had ever seen.Needless to say, their plan worked, and Irene’s mom was soon pregnant. She went through the beginning of the pregnancy held captive by the coven, but then managed to escape. She found the protection of

I'd had the best night and morning of my life, but my heart was broken. This was how I wanted every night to end and every morning to begin, with Aubrey's head resting on my chest and her arm draped around my waist. Although, I knew it couldn’t last. She was a Scion and I couldn't keep stop other Alpha's if they wanted to take her from me. Sure, I was strong, and the son of an Alpha, but that wasn’t enough. If I wanted to be with her forever, I needed to become an Alpha. Be a man that could fulfil her every need, and most of all, be strong enough to protect her and our future children. I sighed, trying my best not to wake my sleeping beauty. I needed a plan and I knew I had to speak to my dad. He’d know exactly what to do. I wished that I’d never thrown the Alpha fight with Chase all those years ago, but I didn’t want to eventually have to fight my father to the death. Werewolf traditions were ridiculous. Why in the hell we needed to kill the current Alpha, I just didn’t understand. I

If the rest of the pack knew that I didn't capture and defeat Driscoll on my own, then they’d never accept me as their Alpha. The dinner with Driscoll was awkward to say the least. Being sat next to Blair was a complete nightmare. She kept rubbing my leg under the table and her hand slid way too close to my junk more than once. I had to keep pushing her hand away while keeping my wolf at bay and pay attention to Driscoll and make sure he didn't notice that his daughter was feeling me up. If he found out that I'd slept with his daughter, I doubt I'd leave the room with my dick still attached to my body. I couldn't believe I'd managed to get myself in such a dangerous predicament so quickly. We’d only been in the pack for a few hours. I needed to get the girl to back off, but if I dumped her, she could tell her father, then I'd be dead for sure. I needed to talk to Vince and Kane.“We have a problem,” I mind linked them. They ceased their drunken giggling and paid attention. "I may have accidently slept with Driscolls daughter.”They were silent for a few seconds, but then burst out laughing. I couldn't believ

The tank let me get up and walk up the stairs by myself. He was close behind me, but wasn't touching me thank Christ. Otherwise, he would have felt me shaking. I didn't know what I was going to do. Kane and Vincent weren't too helpful. Their idea was to kill the guy first then the girl, but the last thing I wanted was to kill anyone except Driscoll. I was escorted to an indoor arena. It was a circle of sand surrounded by seats and the place was packed. Driscoll was in a royal box by the looks of it, with who I assume was his second in command and his mate. I didn’t look at them enough to make out their features. The sand beneath my feet was blood socked and hard like concrete. It was more of an orange color rather than the usual yellow. The man and woman were over the other side of the arena waiting for me. The doors closed behind me and the crowd cheered as Driscoll stood up. He held his hands out to shush the rowdy spectators. The howls, cheers and roars calmed and silence filled th

We managed to set up camp about a twenty-minute walk from Driscoll’s pack. We knew it wouldn't take long for some of his scouts to spot us and that's exactly what we wanted. We expected to be captured and taken directly to Driscoll. The plan then was to ask him if we could join his pack. There was no way he would turn down three werewolves who had accepted their Alpha wolf. He’d keep us under supervision of course, just in case we tried to overthrow him, but if we were able to make friends with pack members and behaved ourselves, made ourselves usefully, hopefully he would accept us. Once he did, we’d pounce.Vincent set up his and Kane’s tents, while Kane built a fire. I was finishing off my own tent. The night was cool, but once I'd sat by the roaring fire, I warmed right up. The guys had been hunting and we had a wild boar spit roasting above the fire. The smell was incredible. I hadn't had boar in a long while. They don't really roam around at home. Vincent came to join us and I c

My head flew back against the couch and my body began to shake uncontrollably. My Alpha wolf had pounced on my Omega wolf who was still cowering down in the dark corner of my mind. You couldn't really call it a fight as such, because the Omega wolf wasn't retaliating at all. The Alpha sank his teeth into the Omega's neck and ripped his throat right out. He raised his head after and howled into the air while the Omega's dying body hit the ground with a thud. That was it, a few seconds and it was all over. My weaker wolf was gone and my Alpha had finally taken over my mind.I howled into the air and beams of white light shot out of my eyes. My howl transformed into a scream as our souls entwined, making us one with each other. I was no longer Jesse, the one person who controlled my body and mind. I was now permanently linked to Gunnar. I was laying on my stomach on the couch, arm hanging off the side and face almost touching the floor. How I hadn't fallen off the couch and smashed my face in, I didn't know. While hauling my tired body up to sit on the couch, my bones cracked and crunched like I was eighty years old. I closed my eyes and groaned while dragging my hands down my face, hoping I could somehow pull away the crappy hangover, but it didn't work. When I opened my eyes again they widened with shock. I was completely butt-ass naked and my hands were covered in blood. I didn't know whose blood it was, but I knew it wasn't mine, because apart from a few aches, pains and a thumping headache, I didn't feel like I had any wounds. Heading over to the kitchen, he threw the two empties away and got two fresh ones out of the refrigerator. He handed me both to open, which I did, then took his back and sat down on the couch.“You’ve got to be kidding me. Those two asshats, seriously? How are they going to help me? They’re all brawn and no brain, the pair of them.”“I know, but you’d be surprised. They have inside knowledge of Driscoll the Alpha. They used to hang with his pack before they got kicked out for not obeying orders.”I rolled my eyes, thinking that was typical of them.
