Chapter 56

I opened the long curtain to check the weather. I bit my lower lip when I saw how moody the weather was. The sky was dark like it was about to pour its tears again. The sun is not seen today.

“There's a typhoon coming later, you should not go to work,” I heard Brian's voice say over the phone of Lily who was busy making breakfast.

“I have to do some things in my office and check the construction site,” I uttered as I closed the curtains again.

“Are you crazy? It's a super typhoon, Faith. Even Lucas' flight got cancelled because of the typhoon.”

“Well, if the typhoon will arrive later, I still have time to go and work,” work is work. A typhoon cannot stop me that quickly.

“She’s gone mad,” Lily commented as she served me a plate with the breakfast she cooked.

“Just stay home, Faith. What if you got stranded there? Don't be so stubborn,” Brian said over the phone but I only ignored his lecture to me all over again.

“Shut it, Brian. I'm going out for work,” I still said, not listening to any of them.

“You can't stop her,” Lily shrugged, not trying to argue with me anymore. They wouldn't be able to win an argument with me anymore. I said what I said and I do what I want.

Right after I ate the food that Lily cooked, they weren't able to make me stay home beyond the typhoon that was coming. I still drove myself to my company and worked with the endless papers on my desk.

“Ms. Faith, I think we should all head home in the afternoon. The typhoon is arriving at 3 pm,” my secretary gave me a notice as she placed other files on my desk.

I quickly checked the time on my phone and it's already 11 am.

“Sure, inform everyone about it.” I ignored her presence after that and focused on working. I still have a few hours to finish everything before I go home.

In the afternoon, my employees are already going home and I already cleaned my desk, ready to leave as well.

“Ms. Faith, are you coming home now?” My secretary asked when she found me wearing my coat already.

“Yeah. Tell the guard to make sure that no one will be left here,” they are still my employees and they are my responsibility in the midst of this typhoon. Their safety still matters to me no matter how I changed to them.

“Yeah, I'll do that.”

My phone rang and I saw Elijah calling. I quickly took the call as I marched out of my company.

“Hello?”

“Faith, where are you? Engr. Calvera said that you'll come here to check the blueprint of the house,” I froze when I was about to go inside my car when I remembered that. Shit, I forgot about that.

“Damn, I forgot about it. Are you still there? I'll go there now,”

“Yeah. We will wait for you, make it fast, please. The typhoon is about to come,”

“On my way,” I ended the call immediately as I drove there. I was already worried when it was already lightning. The strike of it was really sharp and it scared the hell out of me as I was still outside.

“Faith, you're finally here.” Engr. Calvera said when he saw me. I eyed the workers and they are still doing their job beyond the typhoon that is about to arrive.

“You should tell them to leave. It's already fucking 2:30 pm, the typhoon is arriving at 3,” I was already damn worried. The wind was already strong.

“Don't worry, I'll tell them to stop the work as of now,” Elijah said and quickly ran towards the men to make them go home.

“This is the blueprint, do you want me to change something here before we proceed with the construction?” Isn't it crazy? We are really doing this right now when the typhoon is about to come already.

“No, everything's fine with me. But please, we should all go home,” everything is stressing me out now. They should have sent the men home in the afternoon.

“Yeah. If everything is fine with you, let's all go home now.”

“Are you driving alone? It's not safe, Faith.” Elijah said when he came back.

“I'll go first now, take care.” The Engineer said as he ran towards his car in a hurry because of the typhoon.

“I can handle myself. I'll make it th—”

“Shit,” I even watched the heavy rain soaking all of us from above. Before I could even run, Elijah suddenly grabbed my hand and dragged me away from there.

“I'll drive myself home!” I exclaimed when he opened the door of his car.

“Don't be stubborn, Faith! The wind is strong and the typhoon is already here! Your hotel is too far from here!” I couldn't decide what to do yet. We are already soaked there and I am stuck with myself being indecisive.

“Come on, Faith!” He exclaimed again. Having no choice, as I reflect with what he said, I came inside his car and allowed him to drive.

“What about my car?” I asked.

“It will be safe there. We can get it by tomorrow,” he said. I embraced myself when I already felt cold because of the aircon. I glanced at him when he turned it off as he noticed that I was cold.

“Are you driving me to the hotel?” I quickly asked. Lily would be so damn worried.

“No, we can't go there.” He replied. I bit my lip when the road couldn't be seen anymore. The lightning was striking down on the sky along with the strong wind and heavy rain.

“Where are you taking me, then? I have to go home, Lily would be so damn worried if I don't come home.” I was already being hysterical. I should have just really listened to Brian and Lily when they told me not to go to work anymore.

“In my place,” he captured my eyes in one snap. My lips parted as I realized where he would bring me, having no choice.

He only has one place, and that is the house where we both used to live. The house that was filled with pain and tears. It was the home that I despised the most. The home that witnessed how I was wrecked and how many days and nights I cried throughout our marriage.

I was left with no words when we arrived there. My hands were trembling and I didn't know if it was because I'm soaked or because of the fact that I am seeing this house again after four years. Nothing changed with the house. It's still the same as before.

“Wait for me here,” he said before he came out and went inside the house. When he came out, he was already using an umbrella to protect himself from the rain. He opened the door beside me, making sure that a single drop of the rain wouldn't soak me anymore.

“Faith, let's go.” He said. I crumpled my hands while trying to pull myself together.

I heaved a heavy sigh before I came out of the car, feeling feeble. He held my hand as he dragged me gently until we sat foot inside the house.

“I'll bring you a towel,” he said and ran upstairs.

I was left there alone in the living room where I remember myself waiting for Elijah to come home when he didn't show up in my sight for a week and I was already conceiving. I looked around, and I couldn't remember a single happy memory of myself being there. Everything that was flashing back in my head was the two of us, fighting, and Elijah, laying his hand on me while all I did was to feel weak and cry on the ground.

“Ms. Faith?”

My eyes landed at her. Her jaw dropped when she saw me standing there.

“Marie,” I almost mumbled.

“It's you…It's really you! Oh my god!” She ran towards me and hugged me so tight, and didn't care about getting soaked as well.

It's been four years since I last saw her, but her hug still feels the same. It still comforts me. Throughout those years, I only have her in this house. She was the only one who truly cared for me and I will never forget that.

“Why are you here? And why are you soaked?”

“I…uh…” How should I explain everything? She clearly knows that Elijah and I are over.

“Here's the towel,” Elijah said and covered me with it. Now, Marie glanced at me with tons of questions in her eyes.

“You should go and change upstairs,” Elijah added as if he didn't notice Marie standing there.

I suddenly felt like I owed her an explanation.

“It's not what you think, Marie.” I quickly cut her thoughts and suspicions.

That was when Elijah glanced at Marie beside me.

“This is just a coincidence,” I clarified.

I had to look behind me, checking if she was talking to me or not. “It's Freya’s funeral,” I replied. My father laughed as if he lost his mind. Chapter 4 That night it rained; it was a very heavy rain as if the sky was filled with rage. I could feel my tears slipping out of my eyes while looking at the white ceiling of the room. Elijah's scent was all over me. I could still feel his touch as if his hands were still traveling every corner of my body. The middle of my legs was sore—and I could feel it all like it was burning and wrecked. “W-Where are you going?” He caught my attention in one snap even how stuttered I was when he didn't even lay down beside me. He was all naked in front of me and he didn't mind. For so many years that we have been together as friends and as my sister's lover, I never once imagined myself being with him on this kind of night where we are both naked with our torn hearts and souls. “The honeymoon is done,” he replied without giving me an eye. I crumpled the sheet of blanket covered on my body. He sounded like he just portrayed his role as the groom in this wedding. My womanhood is bu

Chapter 5“He despised me,” I uttered while I was busy checking out the new set of clothing fabrics that was delivered today. I am still stuck with what I heard and saw from Elijah last night. He was grieving, mourning, and hating me each day. It slapped me with the truth that he really did just marry me to punish me—to make my life like a real hell. “How was he?” Lily asked. Yesterday, it was Lucas who visited me, and now it's her. I know that the two of them are worried. Among all the people who hate me, there are still Lucas and Lily who cared for me. It turns out that Elijah belongs to the group of people who wished me to die instead of my sister. “Cold? He doesn’t care. Elijah changed after Freya passed away. He's full of anger,” rage is firing up inside and outside of him. “What about your parents? Did they reach out?” I smirked and shook my head. Of course, they won't contact me again unless they have to. They hate me. They treat me like a devil who killed Freya as if I pl
