Chapter 7
Elaine's Pov “Well, well, well, look at what we have here.” One of them spoke, “A woman who is all alone.” “What are you doing here, baby? You should come with us so we'll have some fun. I promise you'll like it.” Another said, stalking towards me. I gulped and shifted back, my voice was stuck in my throat. Although I was in front of a shop, there were hardly anybody passing by, and even if they were, they all ignored what was happening. “Stop looking elsewhere while we are speaking to you, hotcake, it's disrespectful.” Another cooed, his yellow eyes fixed relentlessly on me. Fear gripped me like a vice as the men closed in, their predatory gazes pinning me in place. My legs trembled, and my back pressed against the cold, hard wall of the shop behind me. “Come on, don't be shy darling. We'll take good care of you.” One of them smirked, his eyes scanning me from head to toe. He reached out, his fingers grazing the fabric of my sleeve, I flinched, pulling away as my heart hammered against my chest. The men began to surround me, their laughter filling up the air, the heat of their bodies pressing in as I tried to shrink away. My heart pounded in my chest, the weight of fear suffocating. Before I could even scream, two of them grabbed me roughly, dragging me towards nearby. I struggled, kicking and flailing but they were too strong. "Help!" I managed to choke out, but my voice was swallowed by the empty street. The moment we were hidden in the shadows of the alley, one of them shoved me to the ground, his heavy weight pinning me down as his fingers ripped at my clothes. Panic surged, and I gasped, feeling the fabric tear. My vision blurred with tears, and I tried to push him away, but my strength was nothing compared to his. "Don’t fight it, sweetheart.” He sneered, his smelly breath hot against my face as he leered over me. The others watched, laughing, egging him on. “No, please. Don't do this to me, I'm begging you. Please.” I cried out as they continued to tear away my clothes, leaving me bare. The cold wind whooshed around, making goosebumps rise on my body. “Don't worry, cupcake. You'll enjoy this very much, I'll show you just how pleasurable this is going to be.” Just when I thought it was all over, the man on top of me was suddenly ripped away. I didn’t even see what happened, one moment he was there, and the next, his body slammed into the wall of the alley with a sickening thud. He groaned in pain, slumping to the floor, and then he became motionless. My eyes widened in disbelief. Someone else was there. A hand suddenly touched my shoulders, gently, and I flinched, terrified, “Please leave me alone. Please.” “Elaine.” I looked up, my vision still blurry from the tears and there he was, Zade. Without thinking, I grabbed onto him, clinging to his chest like he was my lifeline. I buried my face in my chest, my body shaking uncontrollably. Zade didn't say a word, his arms wrapped around me protectively but his attention was on the other men, who had frozen in place, their faces pale with shock and fear. Zade’s gaze flicked to his friend, who had appeared behind him like a shadow, "Take care of them," Zade ordered, his voice as icy as ever, “Make sure they understand their mistake.” His friend nodded, cracking his knuckles with a grim smile before moving toward the remaining men, who immediately scrambled back in panic. Zade scooped me up into his arms as if I weighed nothing, cradling me against his chest. His touch was surprisingly gentle despite the anger that was radiating from his body. I held on tighter, too shaken to even lift my head, my fingers gripping the fabric of his suit as he carried me out of the alleyway. I could hear the sounds of scuffling behind us, the grunts of the men being dealt with, but Zade didn’t stop. He just kept walking, his grip on me firm, his pace steady as if nothing in the world could touch us now. We had walked directly out of the alley and his car was parked a little outside the street. He fluidly took me to his car and slinked inside, locking it and rolling down the windows. He was about to make me sit on the chair but I held him even more tightly, I wasn't willing to. For now, just his very scent was comforting to me. I could not let go, no, I couldn't afford to let go. It felt like if I did, those men would be able to catch me again and do whatever they wanted to me. That thought made me hold on more. Zade swallowed, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down, “I'm not going to let go of you, Elaine, I just want to remove my jacket so you can wear it. You're cold.” “Cold?” I didn't even realise that I was shivering. “Yes, Elaine. You're cold.” I loosened my grip slightly, still shaking but allowed Zade to take off his jacket. He wrapped it around my shoulders, the warmth and scent of the fabric instantly soothing the chill that had settled into my bones. “Better?” He asked quietly, his voice softer and almost tender, “Sleep Elaine, I'll take you somewhere safe.” “Somewhere safe?” As if I was put into a web of illusions, his voice began to lull me to sleep, my eyes began to close gradually. “Yes. You won't be touched ever again, Elaine. Since I've gotten you now…” I couldn't hear the rest of the words that he said since I zoned out, my breathing following the sounds of his heartbeat. And not long after, I fell asleep, liking the embrace of the man who had saved me. I had no idea just what was in store for me.Chapter 8 Elaine's Pov I woke up with a start, looking at the place I was in. Panic filled my mind as I jumped down from the bed. It was dark, and cold. I tried to run out of the room, I banged the doors open and then, I saw a small light which I ran towards. It felt like salvation from my nightmares. My bare feet padded quickly on the ground, and I stopped right in front of the light. A face I so easily recognised was in front of me. “Zade.” I muttered breathlessly, my legs pushing me forward. I wanted to stop walking towards him, but I couldn't. It was like I was hypnotised and I walked directly into his embrace, wrapping my arms around his midsection. I needed comfort, and right now, he was the only one that could give it to me. The only one that I could trust. “Elaine.” His voice was low, barely above a whisper, but it cut through the silence like a knife. The way he said my name, it was almost possessive, sending a shiver down my spine. I hadn’t meant to run to him, but
Chapter 1: This Can't Be Happening Elaine's Pov I stood in the middle of the bar, my eyes filled with shock. There were a lot of men in the bar, men that I had never seen before. The man that I had loved was also amongst them, sitting. The love of my life, the one whom I had given up everything to get married to. We have been married a little over one year and I had loved him for a very long time. When I had the chance to marry him, I jumped at it immediately. I thought he loved me at the beginning of our marriage, he showered me with everything I had ever wanted but he suddenly changed. “What's happening… Why… Why did you call me here?” I asked, confused at what I was doing in this place. He had called me a few minutes ago to quickly come here. I had no idea it was a bar until I came inside. The moment I came inside, a bad feeling washed over me. I shifted back, wanting to leave but two people suddenly appeared behind me, making me stop. “Strip.” Just one word, and the earth
Chapter 2 Elaine's Pov “How dare you?! How could you lose this baby after everything Caleb has done to make sure this baby could be kept?!” My mother, Selena said furiously, her eyes were wide with anger. I stared at her in shock, I couldn't comprehend what they were talking about? But because I couldn't speak at that moment, I had no way to defend myself and thus, I could only let them continue speaking. “Selena, be calm. We are in the midst of a bunch of people, lower your voice.” My mother in law, Clara turned her gaze to Selena who shrank. Selena had always cowered under the pressure of Caleb's mother; mainly because was everything my mother was not. “Elaine…” I blinked twice, my face was still stinging from the slap. “I was told that you went to the club to drink despite Caleb warning you not to do so. How could you have ignored his warnings?” Clara asked, her hooded eyes on me. ‘Caleb had told me not to go to the club?’ I was confused. But I wasn't surprised at what she
Chapter 3 Elaine's Pov “Elaine, it's been a long time. So lovely to meet you again.” Emily greeted, her voice was sweet and delightful. To them. I stepped back, my eyes wide and my hands trembling. I frantically looked over to Caleb who was seated on the couch, a huge beaming smile on his lips. But when our eyes met, they were evil and cunning. But then, I heard a cough from the side and I saw Caleb's grandfather sitting. My heart trembled when I saw him, he would support me, he always had supported me no matter what. Once I was able to talk, I would tell him everything that had happened and he would finally realise that… “Elaine! Despite how I treated you, how could you intentionally abort your baby! Worse, you even cheated on Caleb! Is this what you promised me when you got married to him?!” Grandfather knocked his staff twice on the ground. I stumbled in shock. The fact that he was yelling at me, which he had never done before had crossed over my mind. What he just said… Abo
Chapter 4 Elaine's Pov “If Caleb had died there, maybe I wouldn't be hurting this much.” I finished. “You bitch!” Clara screeched and stomped forward, her hands raised as she slapped me once more. A crisp sound rang throughout the sitting room. But it didn't hurt more than I was already hurting. I bent down to pick up the papers and pen and with shaky hands, I signed the divorce papers, my chapped lips widening into a smile. “I've given you what you wanted, Caleb.” I raised my head, watching him intently. He looked very happy. So happy that he snatched the papers from my hands, pushing me away. My mother watched everything coldly, her eyes promising wrath against me. I scoffed, I didn't even know why I bothered anymore. “Elaine… I'm sorry.” Emily stepped forward, tears brimming at the corner of her eyes. “Sorry? There's no need to be sorry, Emily. After all, you've gotten exactly what you wanted. But soon enough, everyone in this family will know just how pretentious and evil
Chapter 5 Elaine's Pov “It's you…” I murmured, my eyes fixed on Zade who leaned on the door frames, golden rimmed glasses sat right on top of his nose. He hadn't changed, although he was just as handsome, if not even more handsome than he was the last time I saw him. Zade frowned, his eyes were dark and he had an unreadable expression on his face. Without saying anything, he turned around and left the ward, the only thing I could hear was the rhythmic sounds of his footsteps that echoed in the hallway. I leaned back on the bed, my head lowered. A myriad of thoughts went on in my head. How did he save me? He went abroad so many years ago and he told me that he would never come back, so why now? How was he able to recognise me? My hands trembled as I raised them to touch my face. What would I look like now? Zade had always called me beautiful in the past, was I still beautiful to him? Or had the years of abuse gotten to me, did I look like an old hag now? I raised my head to l
Chapter 6 Elaine's Pov “Why did you come back, Zade?” I questioned sharply. Maybe I was trying to put all of my anger on Zade, maybe I was just scared of becoming who I used to be, or maybe I didn't even know how I was feeling right now. But one thing was clear, deep down, I was glad that he was here. Deep down. Zade's expression remained unreadable, his gaze was unwavering as he stood at the foot of the bed, his hands slipping into the pocket of his tailored suit. His presence alone was enough to suck the air out of the room. He stared at me for a long time before finally answering. “I didn't come back for you, Elaine.” His voice was flat, devoid of any warmth. His words hit harder than I expected, I clenched my fists beneath the blankets. What was I expecting? Why was I feeling so hurt? He didn't come back for me, we broke up a long time ago, of course he would never come back for me. “Then why? Humour me, Zade. Why are you back after what you said?” My voice trembled slig
