Chapter 1381

Author: Summer's Blaze
Upon hearing that Hayden had taken his own life, Nicholas was momentarily stunned.

Then, he cried out in a voice filled with despair, "Dad, you didn't have to die for your crimes! I promised I would take the blame for you!"

Chaya hadn't planned on living anyway, having resolved to follow Hayden to the grave. So, when she heard Nicholas' words, she fearlessly rushed forward and struck him on his head.

Her fist was powerful, landing squarely on the top of his skull. Nicholas felt as if a bolt of lightning had struck him. For a long moment, his head buzzed. Finally, he looked up and glared at her, a venomous look in his eyes.

Chaya spat at him and coldly said, "You wretched man! You've used the lives of Nerovia's people and the old retainers of the estate to blackmail Prince Hayden into taking the fall for you. Prince Hayden never had any intention of rebellion. Even under your strict surveillance, he tried to send word to Commander Sinclair. Don't you dare tarnish his name!"

The burial site, chosen by the Royal Astronomer, was indeed a place of serene beauty—lush mountains and clear waters, with two villages nestled nearby. Though it was said to be next to the Royal Mausoleum, it was actually ten miles away. After the funeral, Chaya came to bid farewell to Carissa and Violet. She told them she planned to stay in one of the nearby villages and build a small hut, in order to guard the grave of her godfather.Violet asked if she needed financial help, but Chaya said she didn't. She explained that selling the jewelry she had purchased would provide enough for her to live comfortably on her own and still have some wealth to spare. The day she left, Thomas arrived in the capital, with Yuvan and the others in his custody.Standing at the city gates, Chaya watched the prisoner cart carrying Yuvan and Harvey. A surge of hatred rose within her, but as she saw the common people angrily throwing rotten vegetables at them, her anger faded. They had brought this up

Celeste's fists tightened, and there was a sharp glint in her eyes. "That's why I say the heavens are unfair. How could this happen?""You said it yourself—it's all about one's birth. Even the woman you call an old hag also comes from a noble family," Carissa replied calmly, her voice carrying a subtle sense of superiority.Celeste hated that attitude more than anything, for it reminded her of Eleanor—the one who stood in the clouds while Celeste could only crawl in the dust below. Her anger flared, her chest rising and falling sharply."So what if she's of noble birth? She was still rejected by her own husband," Celeste taunted."Mr. Prince? She never cared for him at all," Carissa said dismissively. "It's only you who treats him like some precious gem.""He's no gem to me, he's a waste of space," Celeste spat, her expression hardening.Carissa smiled contemptuously. Oliver's situation caught Carissa off guard. In that moment, did he regret his reckless choices? To think that, at his age, he still believed in true love. At Grace Mansion, the lanterns in the corridors cast intricate shadows on the window frames, resembling beasts looming on the walls.Carissa Sinclair sat on a chair with her hands folded in her lap, her slender body hidden beneath plain clothes. She looked at the man before her—her husband whom she had spent a year waiting for.Barrett Warren was still wearing his slightly-worn battle armor. Standing under the dim light, he looked commanding and handsome. His face showed a mix of determination and a touch of regret."Carissa, the king has issued a royal edict for this marriage. Aurora will be joining our household. There's no question about it," said Barrett.Carissa's eyes clouded with confusion. "The queen dowager has said that General Yates is a model for all women in the kingdom. Would she be willing to be a concubine?"Barrett's eyes flashed with a hint of annoyance. "No, she won’t be a concubine. She’ll be my legal wife and equal to you.""Calling her that doesn't change an

Barrett sighed in frustration. “Why put yourself through this? There was a royal edict for this marriage. Even when Aurora moves in, you’ll be in separate wings. She won’t compete with you for control of the household. She doesn’t care about those things.”“Do you really think I’m attached to managing this household?” Carissa countered.Running this mansion was no easy task. Just the monthly medicine for Barrett’s mother cost dozens of silver coins. Then, there was food, clothing, and social obligations—all these things required money. This household was practically a hollow shell. Over the past year, Carissa had used much of her dowry to keep things running. And this was her reward.“Enough, I won’t argue with you. I just needed to inform you. Whether you agree or not changes nothing,” said Barrett, his patience wearing thin.As Carissa watched him leave in a huff, she felt even more bitter.“My lady, my lord was too much!” said Lulu, Carissa’s maid, wiping her tears away.“Do

Lulu brought over the dowry list and explained, "This year alone, you've spent over six thousand silver coins to support the household. However, the shops, houses, and estates remain untouched. All the bank savings, along with the property deeds and land titles your mother left, are locked up in the chest."Carissa glanced at the list. "Alright."Just looking at the list put her in a melancholy mood. Her mother had given her such a substantial dowry, fearing she would suffer hardships in her husband's home."My lady, where can we go? Are we returning to Northwatch Estate? Or should we go back to Meadow Ridge?" Lulu asked, looking distressed.Images of the bloodstained estate and the tragic deaths of her family members flashed through Carissa’s mind, causing a sudden pang of pain in her heart."Anywhere is better than staying here.""If you leave, you’ll be giving them exactly what they want.""So be it. Salvador looked down at Nicholas from his lofty position, undisguised hatred brimming in his eyes. "Is that so? You claim you wish to bear your dad's punishment, yet I cannot let an innocent man suffer in your place. As for who truly plotted treason and sought to usurp the throne, I will investigate that thoroughly myself."Tears welled in Nicholas' eyes. He spoke with deep sorrow, his voice trembling. "Your Majesty, there's no need for an investigation. My guilt is certain. My dad was simply a fool for a moment."Salvador sneered. "You disappoint me. Is this truly the best you can do? Where is your sense of honor? The self-awareness that the victors write history? You are no great leader. With such character, how dare you even think of claiming the throne and ruling a nation? Nicholas, don't make your followers regret ever supporting you."Nicholas ignored Salvador's words, repeating his heartfelt plea to protect Hayden. Under Hans' command, the private soldiers didn't retreat. Instead, they fought increasingly harder. They weren't Yuvan's soldiers. Over 10,000 of them had been carefully selected by Nicholas over the years, trained through countless battles. Many of them carried tragic pasts, lives marked by pain and loss. They harbored deep resentment against the world and saw this war as their chance to turn the tide of their fate. As long as someone was leading them, they would not easily surrender. The Mystic Army would win, but it would not be quick, nor would it be without heavy losses.Carissa knew that if they didn't surrender, the bodies would pile up—more lives would be lost with each passing moment. So she chose a team of elite soldiers, including the Meadow Ridge squad, with the mission to take Hans' head.Without a commander, the enemy's forces would be much easier to defeat.Carissa devised a plan—Bun and Travis would first break through their formation and clear a path. Then, she a

As Nicholas rode out, he saw Clifford in the distance, which finally put his mind at ease.He knew how fearless Clifford was—once people were willing to give their all and feared nothing, they could achieve anything. This was the war Nicholas had dreamed of—the battle for his great cause. All the calmness he had once carried disappeared. The suppressed fire in his blood surged through his limbs, and the desire to rule the world filled him with an overwhelming strength and conviction. He believed that ambition was the most powerful force in the world, and that it was unstoppable. What he didn't realize was that ambition wasn't the strongest force. The greatest forces were love and hate, justice and unity. It was the patriotism of Carissa, the commander of the Mystic Army!It was the hatred of Carissa, whose family had been slaughtered! It was also the union of soldiers and martial artists, working together to expel the rebels and uphold justice for the people!Nicholas quickly
