Alvara's Point of View
As promised, I didn't tell Eugene about what had transpired at the primary school. Not out of fear for what the Beta and Gamma might do to me, oh no. I didn't tell him because I knew he would cause a scene. The Cilliers family was well off to no end, especially Eugene and his mother. They owned several mines in the area and lived better than ninety-nine percent of the pack. A select few shared the same wealth, but the rest of the pack was suffering under Eugene's rule. Finances were coming in short and more and more people went homeless each passing month. Eugene refused to help anyone until Eiecrunt had suggested lucrative trade. More than lucrative.
Alpha Ciaran's contributions whilst Alpha Stefan was still alive brought in enough money to keep people off ot the streets. Now, the amount had doubled, as far as I could tell from the brief conversation I had had with Eugene about it. For the most part, I was just another figure head he kept tabs on. Controlled. But I was not stupid. Everyone could see that Alpha Ciaran was being overly generous with his contributions this time around. Throwing in the school supplies was just another show of how far his money stretched.
"I already started on dinner, seeing as you were frolicking around with two males." My mother-in-law sneered from where she stood. Ingredients lay about on the countertops, some opened and others still sealed off. I only nodded at her and walked to where my apron lay.
Picking up a knife, I started on some mushrooms and moved along to onions. Angelique hovered over my shoulder a second longer before she started peeling the carrots, staining her hands orange. The back door slid open, letting a breeze drag by and I shivered in response. When was the last time I had had a full meal?
"I am glad to see my two favorite women are busy with dinner," Eugene purred and kissed his mother's cheek. My eyes lingered on them a second longer than it was supposed to. Thankfully, the Alpha didn't notice and brushed a kiss to my temple as well. "How did everything go with the Beta and Gamma?" He asked and picked up a slice of mushroom, popping it into his mouth. Stiffening slightly, I peeked at his face. There was a smile and lines creasing around his eyes. Good, the sentinels kept their mouths shut about earlier.
"It went over rather smoothly. Beta Ozias says that he will personally select the new technology for the classes and even throw in an astro-hockeyfield." I replied, continuing my cutting. A hand tugged at my waist, forcing me to turn towards him. The smile was gone, replaced by a frown.
"You know how much I hate it when you don't look at me when I speak to you." He whispered and pinched my stomach between his fingers.
"I'm sorry, I am just trying to help your mom cook for tonight. I didn't mean anything by it." I explained and tried to turn back to the vegetables. His hand tightened and I swallowed the growl growing in my throat.
"Have you tested yet?"
"I have and it was negative. I am sure it is nothing to worry about."
"It has been almost eight years now. We should have had pups by now." He growled in reply and I flinched. His mother looked towards us, her eyes nearly glowing when they land on her son.
"Have you tried the advice I gave you, Alvara. It got a lot of women pregnant last year." The former Luna patronized, her smile sticky sweet. Averting my gaze to Eugene, I touched his face gently.
"I understand you wish for pups, but the Goddess will bless us when she thinks we are ready. Don't rush it."
"Oh, so you don't want kids right now, is that it? I should have fucking known." Eugene seethed and let go of my waist. My face fell, but our eyes were still locked. His stubble felt prickly against my palm and I just wanted to pull my hand away. I kept it firmly in place, knowing how he would react if I tugged it back.
"That isn't what I am saying. I am saying that the Goddess knows best and that her timing might not be our timing."
"Or yours," He hissed and flung my hand from his cheek. The creases between his brow rippled as his jaw tightened. "You know what, fuck it. If you don't want kids right now, I won't push you. Just know it fucking hurts." Eugene pulled away from me completely, stalking to the back door again. His shoulders were tense, strides long.
"Where are you going?"
"Out!" Something inside me caved in a little at the word. Hollowed out the last shred of my soul. I knew where he was going. Knew to who he ran so often when things didn't go his way. Mates meant for life, for better or worse. It also meant that cheating was never an option. Eugene treated it like an option.
"If you dare leave this house, you might as well never return." I hissed and slammed down the knife on my cutting board. Angelique stilled beside me, taking in the spectacle.
"What did you just say to me?"
"I know where you go when you feel threatened in the slightest way. I know whose bed you warm. Don't mock my intelligence by denying it."
"Do you think so fucking little of me? I would never fucking do that to you!"
"I said, do not mock my intelligence, yet here you are, mocking it." I pressed every word from my chest, even as it grew tighter and tighter around my heart. For so long I had tolerated everything he put me through, just for him to go fuck other women. That wasn't a mate!
"Well, seeing as I get accused of it relentlessly, I might as well do the crime I am being persecuted for!" He screamed and slammed the door shut on his way out.
My breathing grew ragged. Tears blurred my vision. That would be as much of a confession as I would ever get. Clasping at my chest, I stared at the knife on the cutting board, my mind wandering dangerously close to the brink. A throat cleared and I looked up at my mother-in-law. Her face said it all, excluding the hands wrapped over her chest.
"He would never do that to you. Eugene is a good man and mate, you just don't see everything he does for you. Pays your bills. Feeds you. Let you stay home when everyone else is forced to work," She shook her head. Her butterscotch colored hair reminded me so much of her son, it nearly pained me to take in. "Stop taking him for granted and start doing your part within the pack." Her eyes dipped towards my stomach, scowl on her face.
Another throat cleared from the door leading into the living room. Alpha Ciaran was leaning against the doorframe, his eyes hard when he took me in. Turning my head, I wiped the tears from my eyes and brushed another smile across my face. His eyes settled on me again, more agitated than he was a moment ago.
"I am sorry if I interrupted anything. I just wanted to invite the Luna for a walk tomorrow morning. Alpha Eugene said he was busy and I am afraid I will get lost if left alone." He pointed his smile at the former Luna and I could have sworn her knees buckled a bit. I frowned at him, unable to discern why he would want me to show him around. It wasn't as if this was his first time visiting.
"I am afraid that it would be seen as inappropriate to leave the Luna alone in your care, so she must decline," Angelique voiced, flipping her hair over one shoulder. "But I would be more than happy to take you." Her words stung my ears. If the thought of me going with him troubled her this much, how could I decline such an offer. I smiled a bit more brightly at him.
"It would be my honor." I accepted and his face matched my own in brilliance. Angelique made a noise only comparable to a dying cow and turned her head to look at me.
"Eugene won't like you going alone with him." She hissed.
"Alpha Eugene will think me an apt wife for taking care of his esteemed guests. Don't worry, I can take two sentinels with me." Because they were easy to pay off if unsavory things happened. Ciaran noted this. Noted how I had reassured her without compromising myself or him.
Guards were watch dogs and dogs loved steaks more than kibble on their dinner tables. Whoever paid the best now had their loyalty.
Angelique opened her mouth, but Ciaran cut her clean off. "I am looking forward to it then, Luna."
The way he rolled the Luna off of his tongue sent my mind spiraling. It was an unsaid promise from his side. Of what, I had no clue, but something woke up inside of me that had been sleeping since I was nineteen.
Excitement.
Ciaran's Point of ViewEugene was cheating on her. Belittling her. Not to mention what his mother had said to her. Alvara couldn't even meet my eyes when I had finally made my presence known. The drops of silver running down her cheeks was enough to send me into a rage. How dare he betray his mate in such an intimate way, but still demand pups from her? Demand anything from her.The former Luna's gaze settled heavily on me. Lust danced at the front of her face. It sickened me to witness, but I kept my smile firmly in place. Alvara needed me and there was something about her that made my mind spiral. Maybe it was because she looked so much like my lost love. Or maybe there was more to her than this pretty little submissive thing. Either way, I wanted her. Some dark part of me could only imagine what I would do to that mouth of hers. I always get what I want in the end."I am looking forward to it then, Luna." I purred and turned to leave, feeling
Alvara's Point of ViewSomething inside of me had stirred at the sight of him. Clothed in black from head to toe, his caramel eyes drinking in the outfit I had chosen. More risqué than my usual fashion as of late. Eugene would have a heart attack if he saw me dress so scandalously. Or what he deemed scandalous.Ciaran took me in one more time before we sped off, his eyes lingering on the tops of my breasts. Keeping the blush from my face, I put on my sunglasses and watched as the world whirred by in a blur. His knuckles grew white on the steering wheel and I caught his eyes drifting to me again. I smiled in reply, clenching my legs together tightly. Those eyes seemed to pierce me down to the bone, as if he could see all my past sins. And liked every single one of them.We stopped in front of the restaurant before I could fully comprehend what I was doing. I had agreed to show him the town, yet ended up coming to breakfast with him instead
Ciaran's Point of View I was fucked. We were fucked. This plan was fucked. There was no denying that just at her slight touch I nearly couldn't control myself. Just at the way her smile curled up, I wanted to run my thumb over the bottom lip. Alvara had surprised me in the best of ways. Docile, modest and completely submissive my ass. There was a fire to her that she hid so well. I had an inkling as to why she kept the fire at bay. Her joke of a mate. Eugene was a lot of things, but I had never pegged him as a misogynistic cunt. Until last night. Until I saw that there was more to this woman than Ozias had previously seen. Alvara was a complete blueprint of Savanah, even in that respect. It drove my need to have her close even further. Drove me wild with the thought that maybe this could become our new normal. Savanah was shared between the four of us, so Alvara would be as well. If she chose to be. No one could make her do anything she didn'
Alvara's Point of View That was twice in two days that I had been cornered by one of them. Been turned on by one of them. My head told me I was every bad word in the book. My heart told me I was on to something, whilst the wetness between my legs simply urged me forward. As promised, we had had breakfast and a small stroll in the park. Not more, not less. Eugene would have a fit if we had stayed together longer, but a part of me wanted to scoff at him and throw the middle finger. There was a difference between truly submitting to someone and pretending that you did. Eugene had never earned my submission, but I would gladly bow before Ciaran and Maverick. Even Ozias. Somehow they had noticed me in a way few others had. Very few. Blessing and curse, to know that someone saw the innermost workings of your mind. Angelique stood in the kitchen again when I entered, no sign of Eugene. Her long butterscotch hair glistened in the warm mornin
Dargan's Point of ViewThis was fucking insanity. A carbon copy of Savanah was sitting before us. From the crown of her head to the way she threw her hair over her shoulder. Nothing could compare. Insanity couldn't begin to describe it, not when Ciaran's scent lingered on her skin. And arousal. So much it nearly sparked my own erection. Almost an identical smell to Savanah's.The girl Ciaran had described earlier was also nowhere to be seen. Her eyes were withdrawn and she absent-mindedly picked at her food. Excuse for food, anyway. We were wolves and they fed us like rabbits. Angelique had proudly presented the plates and I caught Maverick's grimace before it even started.Eugene tried his best to spark up conversation with Ozias and Ciaran, the latter of which sent Eugene frequent glares. The foreign Alpha seemed to notice this, but carried on with the conversation, ignoring the fact that his mate smelt like the male sitting across from him. A
Alvara's Point of View They thought me strong. A fighter, as Dargan had put it. How wrong they were. The fighter inside of me had died a long time ago. Almost the same day as my wedding. I needed to be small, subservient and quiet. That was a Luna's duty in life. The comment Ciaran had made cause a rupture within my chest. A part of me that had long since died ached still. I expected more from him and now I knew it was a foolish thought. To think that there might be something between us crossed several lines. I was wed to my mate. Yes, Eugene wasn't perfect, but he was still better than nothing. What I had felt for Ciaran was a fleeting obsession and my own body betraying me. Besides, Eugene had eyes everywhere and one wrong move could send my entire facade spiralling down the drain. It was a miracle that Eugene even allowed the Omega to storm after me today. "Well, thank you for the company, but I am feeling much better. If
Alvara's Point of View I had gotten out of there with my tail between my legs. Everything inside of me screamed to turn around. To give whatever this was a chance. Almost as if I had found another mate. Or mates. The pull I felt between us was undeniable, yet so utterly wrong. Eugene was my mate and no other. Even with Dargan's sweet words of encouragement. They couldn't fully grasp the danger of the situation. Eugene was many things, but forgiving wasn't one of those. Ciaran had baited him once before. So had Maverick and Ozias with their little stunt in the school. He wouldn't let another transgression go. He had hurt me in that tub. Squeezed not only my private parts, but the fear inside my heart. For years now, I had barely felt a spark with my mate. Ha
Alvara's Point of View In life, you are given several options. Decisions. When you choose one, the other option fades away. So we are told. You are given your mate by the Goddess herself. Two options are in front of you when you find that special person. The first, and the best, option is to accept that mate. Be with them until the day you die. Nothing is more fulfilling than knowing you have someone only to yourself. The second option, and the road less traveled, is to reject your mate and live the rest of your life single. Men are more likely to choose this option than women, but it happens rarely. What I have come to find out is that there is a third option. Something far worse than rejecting your mate
Alvara’s Point of View “Aunty Adelia!” Aurelia screeched and ran to the front door. Adelia leaned against the frame, arms crossed over her chest, until she saw my daughter. Her face lit up like a thousand little lights. Her arms unfolded and reached forward. The little girl jumped full force into her. Nearly knocked her inside the house. Dargan came in behind me carrying the diaper bag. As he passed me, he kissed the side of my face. His wedding ring glinted in the afternoon sunlight. I swelled at the sight, still transfixed at the thought that I was a married woman. Married to the loves of my life. “My sweet girl!” Adelia exclaimed and threw Aurelia into the air. A giggle escaped the two-year old. Her dress puffed out around her. Hair fluttered in the wind. Dark golden blonde. Curly, like mine. The trees were a bright green. The grass neatly trimmed. Flowers bloomed all around us. Maverick was next to walk up. His hand settl
Alvara’s Point of ViewJessebelle stood at the edge of the fighting. Kept a close eye on all of her men. Guns fired in rapid succession. Wolves tore men limb from limb. Blood coated the grass. Between it all, Ciaran had a standoff with Eugene. Both sides landed blows. Bones crunched beneath their combined strength. Ozias had run after the Beta. Maverick shot whoever got closest and Dargan was still passed out cold. For a moment before Ciaran had arrived, I was sure I would be dead by the end of this. I was sure that I wouldn’t see the morning. Yet, Jessebelle had pulled through. Made sure that the odds were fatly stacked against Eugene. With however many reinforcements he called, he still wouldn’t win. Money drove him. Drove his pack, which wasn’t a good motivator. Love and freedom drove ours.Mason had gotten away in the chaos Harland caused. Got hold of Jessebelle and convinced her that we needed h
Maverick’s Point of ViewThe truck collided with the first of their cars. I lurched forward, gripping tightly onto the dashboard. My driver floored it. Scraped the road with their scrap metal. I braced as we hit another one. Men darted from their positions. Drew their guns and fired rapidly at the sides of the truck. Bullets peppered the steel but refused to go through. Thousands and thousands of rands were spent securing my people. The border patrol was thin tonight. Almost lax. According to Mason, we would have a hard time getting through, but this seemed almost too easy. Some of my men jumped from the rear. I heard their feet hit tar. Saw them run beside us. They opened fire. Some of Eugene’s men held up small flags with a diamond on it. I opened my window and craned my neck outside.“Don’t hurt the ones with the flags! They are on our side!” I screamed to my men. All of them nodded and proceeded to atta
Dargan's Point of ViewMy feet ached from the pace I was setting. I dodged trees. Cleared ditches. Lungs screamed for me to slow down. Air came in short supply. I had to take it easier. But I refused. It had been years since I ran with such ferocity. With so much intent and purpose, it nearly drove me mad.Alvara sounded far beyond distressed. Her voice had pitched and fallen. The fear was tangible in my mind still. She needed us and she needed us now. Everything we had endured led up to this moment. I would not let her have the same fate as Savanah. Let her die in a pack that hated her deeply. Die beside a man that had used her all her life. Those revelations set my mind blazing. My legs pumped harder. Drove me further. I could see the lights of houses in the distance. Slowing down, I sniffed the air. Picked up the scent of several enemies. I lightened my steps and avoided the trail where the scent was strongest. Two secon
Ciaran's Point of ViewMaverick nearly crawled out of his skin the moment Alvara left. Her mind link had shut between us. Locked us out of her thoughts. But I could feel every tremor of fear. Every quickening of her pulse. The panic she felt. Her small feeling of pride. Like she was still with us. Yet, none of us could reach her. Speak to her mentally. It drove us insane. Made us bite our nails and down glasses of whiskey. This was hell. Our minds remained open at all times. We had a plan but plans could change at any moment. Alvara had to be able to reach us at a moment's notice. Thus, we played riddles and made jokes through the mind link. To keep it sharp and make sure it was open even whilst we were sleeping.Ozias wouldn't stop pacing. Dargan smoked more than he had ever before. We weren't far from her. Maybe 80 kilometers, tops. Maverick and Dargan were closer. Harland camped out on a farm close to the edge of Half-Moon. We were w
Alvara's Point of View All the lights in the house were off when I woke up. Glowing moonlight sifted in from the open curtains. A cool breeze drifted over my bed. Yet I had woken up. No nightmares plagued me. No monsters hidden in shadows. My body had made peace with my surroundings, even if my mind was a bit slow to adjust. There wasn't a sound to be heard. Barely a cricket chirping. But I was awake and it was hell. Maybe two in the morning. I rolled onto my side and closed my eyes once more. Sleep danced at the edge of my mind and I rolled back onto my back. Then I heard it. The near-silent struggle in the room beside mine. Soft groans. Scraping of nails across flesh. Grunts of satisfaction. I covered my ears with a pillow. Eugene had a lady visitor over. As I had told Angelique, he would never change. I willed myself to sleep until I realized that Teagan's room was beside mine. Cold dread settled into my spine. Blind panic
Alvara's Point of ViewAs I had thought, Eugene never came to dinner. He had made paint swatches with Mariposa. We could all hear them laughing and bantering above us. Then, she had insisted they go out to eat. Something about having a craving met. So, that was exactly what they had done. Without so much as a whisper about spending too much money, they were off.If she had arrived before any of this had happened, I would have believed it when he told me she was just some woman he was helping. Clung to the idea that some part of him was still good inside instead of rotten and foul. Now, I knew better. Knew that she was his mate and I had been used for my money all these years.Stolen from my pack. Kept under lock and key because they couldn't find the keys to my family's kingdom. Somehow, after spending so much time with my own mates, I understood why he was so excited. Happy. She brought out the best in him as all mates would. But she w
Alvara's Point of View"You asked for me?" I said from the door. Eugene lifted his head, looking at me with a soft smile. He nodded and I stepped inside."Did you find everything you were looking for today?" A vague question. Very vague. It set me on edge enough that I lowered my gaze. Made my eyes appear larger than they actually were. Eugene put a hand out towards me and I took it when I got closer."I forgot how expensive everything was. I am sorry you had to spend money on me." I whispered back. Eugene kept that soft smile on his lips. Gently, he tugged me into his lap. I nuzzled into his neck, draping my legs over his. This was wrong. Utterly wrong. Being close to another man in such an intimate way hurt my heart. Every memory I had of my mates flashed into my mind, making my soul hurt even more. They were far away and I was inside the monster den with only Teagan to help me."Anything for you. I hate how we left thin
Alvara’s Point of ViewMason met us at the house. Unlike when I had first met him, he had a suit on. Sunglasses. Polished shoes. As if he had changed overnight. The young man I had come to know was gone. When Eugene greeted him, he simply gave a curt ‘Alpha’ and a bow of the head. Everything felt formal. Stuffy. As if the air had thickened in just a few seconds. Teagan looked between the two men and shrugged when I looked at her.I had personally asked for Mason, but it still didn’t mean that we were completely safe to wander around. The rest of the pack was still on Eugene’s side, and I had returned. Once an outsider, always an outsider. At least now I knew why they had stayed away.As for Lover’s Quarrel members, they had stayed away because Eugene had threatened them. Told them that if they interfered with me, they would lose their jobs or their lives. None of them would risk that. Until now.
