CHAPTER 5

Serene

When I arrived home, I ran into our bedroom, only to discover that my closet was empty. I asked myself , "How could Diego have done this?” We spent about three hours in his attorney's office, and it could not have been him.

I turned to our maid Nora and said, "Who entered our room after I had left?"

"No one did."

"What? How is that possible? My closet was emptied.

"I emptied them for you," Nora replied.

“What?”

"Oh please quit the act, Serene, you should be grateful I did you a favor imagine how long it would have taken you to get all your stuff together, I do not want Nelly to come here and find you wandering around this house, I have moved all your belongings to the living room, I don't even know what you are doing here," Nora, the maid, reacted.

"What! Do you know Nelly?

"You must have grown too comfortable being soothed by me; that chapter is over now; my best friend will be controlling this home from now on, and you need to get your ass out of here," Nora said, glaring at Serene with scorn.

I appeared to have a lot of surprises during the day. First, shortly after our divorce, Diego engaged another lady, and then my lovely and kind maid exposed herself to be a wolf in sheep's clothing, the best friend of my ex-husband's fiancée. I could not believe what I had just heard Nora say .

Nelly entered the room with her luggage. "Why is she still here?" she questioned Nora.

"I am sure she is on her way, right?" She responded with an unpleasant face.

Nora and Nelly exchanged high fives and began giggling at me. When Diego walked in, Nora's expression grew sad and disturbed.

"Oh madam, I can not believe you are leaving. I wish I could go with you; please do not forget about me," she begged .

I knew she was only aiming to blind Diego, so I ignored her as I walked away, but her condition worsened. Nora signalled Nelly to send her away, "Do you want to lose your job?"

"No, Madam, please do not take away my job."She pleaded, relieved, that Diego had no suspicions.

"Good now, get working in the kitchen; my fiancé and I had a hard day and need to prepare for a long night," Nelly remarked, hoping to make me jealous.

Diego said to me "Please do not come here begging for money; if you change your mind, contact my lawyer."

I could not bear the sight of Diego and Nelly hugging. I went to the other room right away since I had forgotten to do something before I left. Nelly followed me as Diego left to take a phone call.

I went into our miscarried child's room and stood near the crib. I looked around at the various teddy bears I had bought for the child, even though it had never come. I tried my utmost to suppress my feelings, but they inevitably poured. "Here you are grieving yourself to death; why would you mourn for a man who never cared about you and a child you could never have dear?” Nelly laughed at at me as she asked

At that moment, I was tired of Nelly's taunting, and because I was not Diego's wife, I couldn't care less how I replied to her. I wiped my eyes and asked, "How does that bother you? Are you not the same lady who abandoned him for another man 5 years ago?"

The inquiry made Nelly feel insulted since she knew I was talking about facts, but because Diego engaged her without considering our five years of marriage, she replied, "Yet I had him caught in my hands, while you were only there to aid him in relieving some pain."

" Serene, you are so shameless. Diego has never looked at you the way he did at Nelly; you should be thankful you did not get to have that child; image how dreadful it would be to be divorced with a child who is not loved by its father," Nora, my maid, remarked as she walked and stood besides Nelly. I could not believe what she saw. Given everything I had done for Nora, it astonished me even more that she turned out to be Nelly's friend.

"I do not trust women like her, who may belong to a scoundrel out there, since my Diego cannot impregnate rubbish," Nelly said.

"You are both so shameless and disgusting!" I shouted before Diego walked in and inquired what we were arguing over.

Nora rushed to the crib, claiming to have removed the dolls at my request.

"May I keep the golden bear, my love?" Nelly questioned Diego, unknowing that it was a gift from my father.

"No, I will get you another one with your name on it," Diego said.

"No, I am good with this one," she insisted until he agreed.

When Nelly was about to grab the bear, I grabbed it away. "What do you think you are doing? Give it to her," Diego demanded.

"No!"

"Serene, " I said, " give it to her," he repeated.

"Please give me the bear," Nelly asked sweetly, appearing to be kind.

"Diego, this is not just any bear; my father made it for me and only me, and I am not giving it to anybody," I said.

"What! "You dare to talk back to me," Diego said.

“Diego Myers I no longer have any obligations to you, and I will not hand over my father's bear to this bitch."

"Serene!" Diego roared in fury that Nelly had been referred to as a bitch. Nelly begins to wipe away tears, hoping that he will touch me.

"No, I do not understand you anymore. I fulfilled all my duties as your wife, I stood by you during the time she left you for another man, I am the reason you are still alive Brian, your parents got us married hoping you would eventually get over Nelly, I stood by you during their death, and I sacrificed everything I had to help your company during crisis," I said in tears.

"I went as far as retiring from my dream job to be a full-time wife for you; even when I miscarried our kid, you never showed any compassion for my pains; I recognized that I could not compel you to love me, albeit you only showed it in bed when your hormones were high."I continued.

"For everything I have done for you, you did not hesitate to return to the lady who left you for another, and you had the nerve to propose to her on our anniversary right after we divorced, huh?” now you want me to give her my bear," I concluded, feeling a big weight lifted from my chest.

"Are you finished now?"Brian inquired, giving me a nasty look, as Nelly purposefully exited the room.

"Honestly, look at how much you have spent; I want you out of this house within the next 30 minutes," he cried, rushing after me.

Nora and I were the only ones left in the room, and she stopped what she was doing and began mocking me.

"How did you expect him to be affected by those words?" Seriously, what is built in heaven cannot be melted by hellfires like you, and if I were you, I would be out of here immediately," she chuckled.

My phone rang, and I quickly answered because it was an unknown number.

"Hello," I said to someone on the phone.

"Evening madam, am I talking to Ms Serene Brights?" the caller politely inquire it.

"Yes, that is me," I said, concerned that Diego might have done anything else.

"Congratulations, madam, I am calling you from London; your application as the Marketing Director of KATARAYO AGENCY has been approved; please check your email and get back to us once you have made up your mind, thank you," the caller stated before hanging up.

A cry of pleasure streamed down my cheeks as I checked my email; I had applied for this position three years ago, when Diego's firm was in difficulty, and I had now been approved to work with them.

Nora stood there puzzled since she could not hear what the caller said save for the mention of London.
