CHAPTER 24

~Diego~

It has been several days of tension and emotional torment. I have been spending practically every night alone, while Nelly just returns in the morning. I can't understand why she is doing this to me. Maybe I am overthinking it, but going out and returning back the next day is dangerous for her. I absolutely need to speak to her. I got up from my desk and grabbed my phone before heading out.

"Sir, are you already leaving?" George inquired as he noticed me.

"Yes, I will go early today," I said, patching his shoulder.

"OK, Sir, but is everything okay?" he inquired, his tone indicating concern.

"Yes, everything is OK; you just need to focus on your work and quit bothering me," I said, knowing he would not say anything further.

I entered the elevator and arrived at the bottom floor,

I was attempting to go in, but the offices were doing all they could to keep me outside until they discovered what they were searching for, which I also had no idea about."Officer, I don't want to cause trouble; just allow me inside my damn house," I said, but they continued to block the path. Before I knew it, the media had come, and I had no choice except to get back into my car and pretend I did not see them through the dark windows. CHAPTER 26Serene Finally, I have a day off so I can spend time talking with the girls without interruptions. Work has been so frenetic now that Cruz has removed his shareholdings and it's beginning to impact all of us. The boss appears gloomy at times, but I am not sure why he is often in my office. I am feeling quite uncomfortable with all of this. I tried calling Charlotte, but she was not answering, so I switched to Neina, who answered right away."Hello," I said to her."Hello, Serene. I have missed you, girl; how are you and the baby?" She asked."That sounded like it was already here; we are both OK, and I missed you too," I said."So, how are things going? I hope you are not still worrying about that animal." She mentioned this referring to Diego."No, I am not, do not be so harsh; he is still a human being," I said."Animal being, you mean?" Charlotte added."What are the two of you together?" I asked."Yes, she arrived last night, and I can not wait for her to leave so I ca

I phoned Charlotte fast, and she answered after a second."Wow, girl that was fast," I said with a smile."Finally, we have been waiting for your call," she responded as Neina waved her hand."I see, nevertheless, you two almost got caught me," I remarked, as they both looked confused."Caught in what, and what exactly was he doing at your place?" Charlotte asked."He was here to greet, he claimed, and he must have overheard our conversation in the kitchen earlier," I continued, as they both looked surprised."Then, what did he say?" Charlotte asked."Oh, nothing; he simply acted like a normal man.""See what your loud tongue almost did to my closest friend," Neina stated, glancing at Charlotte.I smiled at how juvenile the two of them were before telling them that Cruz had broken relations with the corporation, which was affectin

CHAPTER 28Serene It has been 9 months and my stomach has finally started to show; practically everyone is surprised that I have been pregnant for so long, but I do not care what others say; all that counts is that my baby is on the way. As usual, I stepped inside my office and took off my shoes to put on my slippers. I immediately took my seat and started working; the door opened, and I knew who it was—Rina. I was certain she had come to irritate me, so I told her to go without looking up, but she did not move an inch."Rina I am extremely busy; I will talk to you later," I said, but the individual remained standing, so I immediately glanced up and noticed the boss. I am not sure why she seemed to be smiling at me."Sir," I said, preparing to rise up, but he stopped me."No, do not do that, Ms. Brights; please have a seat," he insisted."Umm OK," I responded, taking my seat. He took the chair on the other side of the desk and took his seat. I could sense he wanted to chat about som

CHAPTER 29Diego Finally, things have gone well, if not smoothly. The last time the authorities discovered drugs in my home, I mean, what the heck is going on with Nelly? How could she have returned the erroneous item just to bring it to my house? Fortunately, the inspector and I are very good friends; otherwise, she would have been in trouble. I was resting on my bed, watching a movie about a happy family on vacation. I am not sure why, but I thought it was sweet to see how pleased they were. Since Nelly has been behaving neutral, I felt it is appropriate to bring up the subject again. "Honey," I whispered gently, shifting her face to my side of the bed."Yes, what is up?" she said with a smile."I was thinking about something we discussed about 8 months ago, and it has been on my mind, you know," I added, wanting to appear impartial."Uhuh, what is it, sweetie? Talk to me," she murmured, running her hands over my hair."I think I am ready to have children," I told her, hoping for

CHAPTER 30Serene Four Years Later It's unbelievable that I have achieved this level of success in such a short amount of time. I was on the verge of being fired by my employer following Miguel's birth due to unfounded accusations made by a few agents from a different department, but I eventually came clean when an investigation was conducted. I bought the shares that Mr. Cruz withdrew because I wanted to spend more time with my child and became one of the company's biggest investors. I invested all of my earnings into other companies and also bought property on which I built my restaurants. It was not long until all four were done and everything began to run smoothly.I know how difficult it would have been for a mother like me, but thankfully, my father taught me how to succeed in the business world, and all of those abilities let me accomplish well and excel. When I look back in time, I wish my father had waited longer and not given Diego his kidney, but that would have prevented

CHAPTER 31Diego The past few days have been so stable and peaceful, that I am not sure why Nelly and Nora got into an argument; I have been with Nora for years, Serene has never complained about anything missing, but Nelly claims that one of the gifts I bought her in Dubai was found in Nora's bag; I have not spoken to Nora yet to hear her side of the story. If we lose her now, I do not think Nelly can handle everything on her alone. The last time I looked, things were simply a shambles without Nora. My office door opened, and George strolled in with a smile. I could tell he had excellent news for me, so I begged him to tell me now."Sir, we recently obtained our contract from KATARAYO CONSULTING AGENCIES in London," he explained."What?" I answered while standing on my feet."Yes, sir, we did; please confirm," George answered, handing me the paperwork.I swiftly grabbed them, and we hurled them. I finished taking a shower and went downstairs to cook breakfast but could not since the kitchen was so disorganized. I asked myself.Just a few minutes later, the maid came, and I told her everything she needed to do before heading back to the living room, where I found George. "Good morning, Sir. I hope you feel better today. The quarrel you and Charlotte had yesterday was quite embarrassing," George added."Has Charlotte mentioned anything about Serene having a child?" I asked."No, she just said she was having a great time

CHAPTER 73Diego I felt my hands tighten into fists, and my chest burned with rage as I remembered that Serene had told me the flowers were from her boyfriend. So, all along, my uncle had been the man she was talking about. I know he doesn't love her; whatever he is doing is to gain access to her wealth and steal as much as he can from her, as he did with his wife until she vanished with no trace to date. We all suspected he was behind her sudden disappearance, but we could not gather enough evidence to fight him. I will not allow Serene to suffer the same fate. I went to my room and quickly changed to take a shower while Grace ironed the clothes I requested. When I finished, I walked out and saw Sonia in a bikini. "Hello, sweetheart," she said, walking towards me."What exactly are you doing here?" I asked in a serious tone."What is the meaning of this? I am with my boyfriend, so what is the problem?" she asked."Do not dodge the question, Sonia; what are you doing here?" I repeate

CHAPTER 72Diego Serene is so unbelievable that it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to resist her. I am not sure what is wrong with me, but every time I look at her, I start wishing things had not turned out the way they did between us, or rather that I had not behaved like an ass. I am now dealing with a new reality: another man has come into her life. No! There is no way I would let my son call someone else 'Dad'. I need to act quickly. I was still thinking when I noticed the lift close directly in front of me. “No!” I said, wishing I had walked out on time.It opened, and I found myself on the top floor again. A woman walked in with files in her hands, and I recognized her as Rina Serene's PA. "I thought you were gone, Mr. Myers," she said, smiling."That is correct, but I had something else to do before I left," I replied."Oh, I see; have fun then," she said as she was about to walk out of the lift, but I interrupted her with a question."May I have some coffee with you

It is not like I had a choice; making sure my son does not notice the distance between us is something I will have to keep doing until he is old enough to understand things. I do not want to fall for anything Diego is attempting. I was still deep in thought when Rina shook my shoulder. "Someone looks so lost that peck must have stimulated a lot, right?" She teased me."You must be crazy to think I kissed him," I said, jumping out of the car as the guard opened it for me.“Come on it's Mr. Myers after all,” she said and held her mouth when I gave her a serious look.I walked towards the main entrance, and everyone kept greeting me, with some even complimenting my outfit. "Ms. Bright's welcome; we expected to see your secretary," Mr. Simon said."Oh, that is correct, but important gatherings must not be missed at any cost; I am sure you understand how the game is played in the business world," I replied with a smile."Yes,

CHAPTER 70Serene What could be better than seeing the mighty Diego Myers cleaning up his messes? Maybe he was right; when I saw the blood, I felt bad, but not as bad as I would have back then. Covering my son's eyes was far too important since his fear of blood grows every time he sees it. I used to tell him that losing too much blood could result in hospitalization, which he despised. Just as Diego began cleaning, I walked out and went to the dining room to check on Miguel. "Mommy, where is Daddy?" he inquired, looking behind me, likely hoping to see Diego."Your father is—is on a phone call," I responded, knowing he would not want to disturb Diego."OK, I will go wait for him to finish," he replied and was about to leave when I gently held his arm. "Wait, sweetie," I quickly said.“Mommy is everything OK?” he asked."Yes, I just wanted to give you a kiss before you leave," I said, kissing him quickly and signaling Rina to go make sure Diego finished the cleaning. Serene questioned him while holding his cheeks."I was in the toy room waiting for Daddy," he explained.“What?” "Daddy promised to play with me in the morning, but he did not come," he explained, and Serene turned to look at me, possibly regretful.“Oh, I'm so sorry I forgot I had —”"Blood," Miguel interrupted me as he noticed my hand was bleeding.“What!” Serene replied, looking in the direction Miguel had pointed."Oh, sweetie, I am sorry," she said, covering his eyes as he started to shiver. “Is daddy going to be OK?” he cried."Yes, Daddy will be fine, sweetie; do not cry," Serene reassured him.The maid quickly brought her the first aid kit, but sh

A touch I wished she could have given me, or something I was about to explode in anger over, but I had to hold it in because the Serene I have come to know is not the woman I once married, and believe me when I say she isn't. I remember coming home from work and changing my expression as if she had done something wrong, even though she hadn't; all I wanted was to get her out of my sight. But now the tables have turned, and karma is a bitch.I poured myself a glass of whiskey and drank it. "Uh," I let out a sound due to the burning sensation in my throat."Take it easy, son; what is bothering you?" my uncle inquired, taking the chair in front of me."Nothing, just being disappointed by someone," I said, punching my fist against the table wishing I gave it in his face.“Oh, I see ladies or busines

I stood there watching, trying not to cry because it would ruin my makeup. "Madam, are you okay?” Mia asked as she stood beside me."Yes, I am fine; look after Miguel for me; I will be back soon," I said, heading upstairs. I closed my room and attempted to call Charlotte and Neina, but both of their numbers did not go through. I approached the mirror and looked at myself. 'You need to stay strong, Serene; t

When Miguel called Diego out loud at the barbershop, I knew my worst fear had come true. If it were up to me, he would never have seen my son, but fate had other plans. I will have to pretend to be in a happy relationship with him to convince our son that we are happy. I entered my room and closed the door behind me. So many thoughts were racing through my mind, so I took a deep breath and quickly looked in the direction of the door that had just opened. "Mommy," Miguel said, pulling Diego into my room."I brought Daddy after our house tour, and I am going to get ready for the party," Miguel said as he ran out of the room. What the hell is going on? He had no right to be in my room. He must believe this is the Myers Mansion or something. When she told me Serene was taking my son to the barbershop, I went there first and waited for them. When I was certain it was safe for me to enter after them, I walked in and noticed Serene on her phone while our son was looking at how the barber was styling his hair when our gazes met. "Daddy!" he exclaimed, jumping up the chair and into my arms. I was surprised and could not believe he knew what I looked like; Serene must have shown him pictures or something. I could feel his tiny arms around my neck. I put my hands in his curly hair as I picked him up and gave him a proper look. To my surprise, he looked e
