The SUV veered dangerously close to the edge of the road as Rowan gripped the steering wheel with precision. The flashing lights in the rearview mirror burned like beacons of doom, and the sound of roaring engines filled the night. My heart hammered against my ribcage as adrenaline surged through my veins.

"Hold on!" Rowan barked, his voice sharp and commanding.

I braced myself as he slammed on the gas, propelling us forward at a breakneck speed. The tires screeched against the asphalt, and the SUV fishtailed before Rowan regained control.

"Who are they?" I shouted over the deafening roar of pursuit.

"Not the kind of people you negotiate with!" Rowan snapped, his focus unwavering.

The road ahead was dark and winding, bordered by dense trees that loomed like silent witnesses to the chaos. Another set of headlights appeared, cutting through the shadows as a second car joined the chase.

"How many of them are there?" I gasped, panic gripping me.

"Enough to make this interesting," Rowan mu

Pamela’s Point of ViewI step from the cab onto rain that comes down in sheets, soaking me to the bone the instant my feet hit pavement. My hair feels plastered on my face, my clothes are soaked, and I can feel the water squeaking in my shoes. None of that matters. My sister is in the hospital, fighting for her life, and I have no one else to turn to but him-my father.I push the heavy glass doors open to my father's building. As I do, I try to suppress the shiver that threatens to run through me. The lobby is as cold and uninviting as it ever was, a perfect reflection of the man who owns it. The receptionist gives me a once-over; her eyes widen slightly at my disheveled appearance, but I don't stop. I am unable to. I need to see him.My father is in a meeting, but quite frankly, I don't give a damn. I stomp toward the conference room, not allowing all the staring and whispered conversations to be a deterrent against me. With every step that brings me closer, my heart beats more rapid

  • Her Demand, His Desire   Chapter 2: Fiancée

Rowan’s Point of ViewI watch as Pamela disappears into the rain, her drenched figure quickly melding into the darkened city streets. The corner of my lips curls into a smirk, the cigarette between my fingers flaring to life as I take a slow, deliberate drag. Something inside me stirs at the sight of her running away, desperate and hopeless—something cold, calculating, and satisfied. She's infinitely more beautiful when she's angry, I think, exhaling a cloud of smoke into the crisp night air. It’s almost funny how fast she can be driven to that fire-filled side, the one that makes her defiant even in the face of her own despair. And this is only just the beginning.I flick the cigarette to the ground, mash it with my heel, and stride toward my car. My driver opens the door, and as I slide into the back seat, I pull out my phone. My finger hovers over Tristan Jones's number before I press dial. The call connects in a ring or two, and I can hear the desperation in his voice before he ev

Pamela's Point of ViewThe sterile smell of disinfectant fills my nostrils, and I sit here in the dimly lit corridor of the hospital, staring off at the beige walls. Quiet beeping of medical machinery and the minimum shuffling of feet move into a rhythmic background to my tattered nerves. My sister Joana is lying unconscious in one of those rooms, her condition critical from the accident. I can't process the fear and worry wanting to strangle me.My phone vibrates in my pocket, pulling me from my reverie. I glance down at the screen to find a message from my father, Tristan Jones.[I can help with the hospital bills. I’m in the hospital.]I stare for a long time at the message.I've had a pretty complicated relationship with my father, ever since his new life with his new wife and two new daughters made it clear my sister and I were no longer priorities in his life. That sense of betrayal still burns.I see him walking down the hall toward me, his face a mask of resolution and relucta

Pamela's Point of ViewI freeze outside of this mansion; the façade is grand and imposing, a fortress that could not be breached. The man, so tall and imposing, so arrogant, draws me inside by a cool detachedness, his fingers firm on my arm yet not hurting me. The warmth and richness in the interior of the mansion did little to thaw the coldness deeply in my bones.Long corridors are passed, tapestries of the richest kind, floors shining bright, and walls adorned with expensive art catch my eye. Everything about this place screams of wealth and power, but to me, it's no different from a prison. My mind begins to juggle various thoughts. My father had sold me to this man-literally. It's a burning betrayal, but there's no time for that either. Somehow, I have to get out of this nightmare. We eventually stop before a heavy oak door. The man turns into me, his eyes gleaming with mirth in the dark and a glimmer of superiority.“You should know with whom you're dealing,” he says, his tone o

Pamela's Point of ViewThe weekend arrives faster than I expected. My nerves twist and tighten as Rowan’s sleek black car pulls into the driveway of a grand estate—larger than even his own mansion. The looming facade is more than intimidating; it’s overwhelming. It feels like I’m about to step into the lion’s den.My hands are clenched tightly in my lap, knuckles white against the soft fabric of the pale blue dress that had been laid out for me this morning. The dress is beautiful, perfectly tailored, but it feels like armor for a battle to which I am ill prepared.Sitting beside me, Rowan is impeccably attired in a fitted charcoal suit that accentuates sharp angles and exudes an aura of quiet command. He hasn't uttered a word so far during the ride; his gaze is out the window, lost in thought or perhaps he is just pointedly ignoring me. The tension between us is palpable, a silent war waged with stony glares and curt exchanges since I signed that damned contract. The car smoothes to

  • Her Demand, His Desire   Chapter 6: Behind Closed Doors

Pamela's Point of ViewThe dinner feels endless, a never-ending barrage of thinly veiled insults, passive-aggressive comments, and forced smiles. By the time dessert is served, the tension is so thick I’m afraid I’ll snap. The only thing remotely comforting is Rowan's hand firmly on mine beneath the table, reminding me of where I stand in this twisted arrangement. Every look Lillian gives me feels like a scalpel cutting into me, and Rebecca's smirking only makes it worse. Finally, when we rise from the table, Rowan stands and offers me his arm. I take it, feeling like a player in a play I never auditioned for. We walk in silence down the great corridors of the mansion until we reach Rowan's quarters. The door clicks shut behind us, and for the first time all evening, I allow myself to exhale.I turn to him, watching as Rowan loosens his tie with an air of nonchalance that makes my skin crawl."So," I say, bitterness seeping into my voice, "is this how it's going to be? Pamela's Point of ViewThe morning sun is too bright, almost jeering, as I stand on the balcony, staring out at the sprawling estate that feels more like a prison. Reporters are gathering below, cameras already in place, their lenses glinting in the light. This is Rowan's world, a perfectly curated display where everything has its place and purpose.Today, I'm that purpose.I hear Rowan's approach before he speaks. "They're waiting."I don't turn around. I keep my eyes on the horizon, the weight of the day pressing down on me like a heavy cloak. "I know."He doesn't say anything right away, but I can feel him weighing me, as he always does. Everything about Rowan is calculated, premeditated. Even this press conference, it's not about us, it's about the image he wants to portray. I dig my fingers into the railing of the balcony, my knuckles white."I want to know something," I say, my voice low but level. "Do you feel anything at all when you do this? Pamela's Point of ViewI wake up to this gnawing feeling in my chest. Joana, is still in the hospital, fragile and in need of care. She doesn't even know half of what has been going on. I need to be there for her. Every minute that passes, stuck in this house, I feel its weight pressing down on me. This news conference, this farce-everything that Rowan expects from me feels like a cage I'm barely holding together.Taking a deep breath, I push the tension building inside me aside and make the conscious decision that today, I'll talk with Rowan. I know he's going to have his opinions, but this isn't up for negotiation: Joana is my sister, and she needs me.I find Rowan in his study, as is most often the case, buried in paper work and on the phone. His expression is as stern as it ever was, calculated, every decision part of some grander scheme. I stand in the doorway for a minute, trying to gather the nerve. And when he finally looks up and sees me standing there, he waves me in."Can w

The room’s air felt heavy, suffused with tension and unspoken truths. I stared at Rowan, trying to process the betrayal that sliced through my chest like a knife. His dark eyes didn’t meet mine, instead locking onto Charles with a glint of restrained fury."Rowan," I croaked, my voice cracking. "What’s going on?"He didn’t answer. His jaw clenched tightly, his fists balled at his sides as if he were holding back a storm.Charles, ever the opportunist, seized the moment. "Poor Pamela," he drawled mockingly. "You really thought your knight in shining armor was here to rescue you?""Shut up," Rowan growled, his voice low and dangerous."Oh, no. I think she deserves to know," Charles said, pacing around me

Rowan’s grip tightened around my hand as Charles stepped closer, his smirk oozing malice. My breath caught in my throat as I took an instinctive step back."Charles," Rowan said coldly, positioning himself slightly in front of me. "You’ve got about three seconds to explain why you’re here before I put you down."Charles chuckled, his hands raised mockingly in a gesture of surrender. "Relax, Rowan. No need to get violent. I’m just here to talk.""You tracked us down in the middle of nowhere just to talk?" Rowan’s voice was sharp, his body a coiled spring ready to snap. "Try again."Charles shrugged, his gaze flicking to me. "Pamela and I have some... unfinished business. Thought I’d tie up loose ends."

Rowan answered the call, his expression unreadable as he held the phone to his ear. I watched his jaw tighten, the tension radiating from him like a live wire."This is Rowan," he said curtly. The voice on the other end was muffled, but Rowan’s eyes darkened with each passing second. He began pacing, his free hand clenched into a fist. I couldn’t hear what was being said, but the look on his face told me everything I needed to know—this wasn’t good. After a moment, Rowan hung up, his movements sharp as he stuffed the phone into his pocket. He turned to me, his expression grim."Pack your things," he said, his voice low and urgent. "We’re leaving. Now."I blinked, my heart skipping a beat. "What?

The forest was an endless maze of shadows, each one twisting and shifting as if alive. My heart pounded in my chest as I struggled against the grip of the masked figure dragging me deeper into the woods. The rough hand clamped over my mouth stifled my screams, and the fear coursing through me was paralyzing."Stop squirming," a deep voice hissed in my ear, his breath hot and rancid. "You’re only making it worse."I kicked out, my foot connecting with his shin. He grunted in pain but tightened his hold, his arm like a vice around my waist. My fingers fumbled with the emergency device Rowan had given me. It was still in my hand, but pressing the button without alerting my captor seemed impossible. As the forest grew denser, the figure paused, looking around as though searching for something—or someone. My

The next few days were a whirlwind of police interviews, statements, and sleepless nights. Rowan stayed by my side, a silent guardian, his presence both a comfort and a reminder of how close we had come to losing everything. But even with James behind bars, the unease in my chest refused to dissipate.I stood by the window of Rowan's apartment, staring out at the city lights. It was supposed to feel like closure, like safety. Instead, it felt like the calm before a storm."Pamela?" Rowan's voice pulled me from my thoughts. I turned to see him standing in the doorway, his expression unreadable. "You’ve barely eaten. Joana’s worried about you. So am I.""I’m fine," I lied, wrapping my arms around myself. "Just…processing everything."He stepped clo

The blade pressed against my neck was cold, sharp, and unyielding. James's breath was hot against my ear as he dragged me through the abandoned alley behind the warehouse. My mind raced, a cacophony of fear and adrenaline screaming at me to fight back, to do something—anything—but his grip was like steel, unrelenting."You're quieter than I expected," James said, his tone laced with mockery. "Where's all that fire from earlier, Pamela?"I swallowed hard, my voice trembling but defiant. "Let me go, James. You're not going to win this."He chuckled darkly, the sound vibrating through me. "Winning isn't the point anymore. It's about making sure you and everyone else understand the price of defying me."We moved deeper into the shadows, away from the warehouse. The faint shouts of Rowan and Joana faded into the distance, replaced by the eerie stillness of the city outskirts. My feet stumbled over loose gravel, and James yanked me upright with a brutal tug."Keep up," he snarled. "I’d hate

The air was still thick with smoke as we huddled together in the makeshift shelter Rowan had found. The explosion had drawn authorities and emergency crews to the site, but we couldn’t risk being discovered—not with James still out there. Every sound outside felt like a potential threat, every shadow a lurking enemy.Rowan sat by the entrance, his body tense and his eyes sharp, scanning the darkness for any sign of movement. Joana clung to my side, her trembling hand gripping mine as if letting go would mean losing everything.“What now?” Joana whispered, her voice barely audible over the pounding of my own heart.Rowan didn’t look at her, his gaze fixed on the forest outside. “We wait. We regroup. And then we finish this.”I swallowed hard. “What does that mean? We can’t just—”He cut me off with a glance, his jaw tight. “It means James won’t stop until one of us is dead. We need a plan.”Joana let out a shaky breath. “Do you think he survived the blast?”Rowan’s lips pressed into a

The air was thick with ash, the acrid smell of smoke stinging my nostrils as we stared at the silhouette emerging from the burning wreckage. James stood tall, his suit torn, his face streaked with soot and blood. He was like a specter of vengeance, his piercing eyes locked on us.Rowan shifted in front of me, positioning himself as a shield. Joana, trembling beside me, gripped my arm so tightly I could feel her nails digging into my skin.“You think you’ve escaped?” James’s voice cut through the roar of the flames, unnervingly steady despite the chaos around us. “You’ve merely postponed the inevitable.”“James,” Rowan said, his tone a dangerous growl. “Let this go. You’ve lost. Walk away before you destroy yourself.”James let out a harsh laugh. “Destroy myself? Oh, Rowan, you underestimate the depths of my resolve. You’re not leaving here alive.”From behind his back, James revealed a gun. The metal gleamed ominously in the flickering firelight, and my heart sank. Rowan tensed, his f
