"That's enough. Give it here," Pat said seriously, yanking the dish rag from my hand.

It wasn't until she stopped me that I realized I was this close to cleaning off the flowery design on the plate in my hand.

Pat took the plate from me next and then nudged me away from the sink. I moved to the other side, looking at the counter for what other chores needed to be done.

"Don't do anything else, Winter. I have got it all covered. Besides, you have done enough."

My shoulders dropped. "But I still want to help."

"Why?" Pat dumped the dish rag, turning to face me. "You have been wearing this gloomy expression for days now. You know you can confide in me, right? What's wrong?"
