The morning started early, as usual, except that Siel was still carrying the disappointments and emotional scars of last night.
With a little less motivation and a fake smile, she got the twins ready for the day, welcomed Nella, and left for work.
Traffic didn't seem to agree with her either, as it took a while for her to get through her usual route. After all, it is that time of year...
"At least, I still have a job, right?" she muttered to herself as she got out of her car.
Her office day had officially begun, but she felt disconnected and distracted. Not even Di's cheerfulness or Raquel's perkiness was helping to improve her mood. Not even the never-ending requests of her boss were making her feel beyond her numbness.
Surprisingly, she had enough time to go to the lounge area to buy ingredients for her personal cinnamon tea mix, one of her favorite comfort drinks. She even ate an apple strudel from one of the coffee shops nearby. But instead of making her happy, it just made her feel angry that she could do this now but not manage to have gone to the cafeteria a few days ago so she could...
Oh, wait... It's that man from the meeting a week ago?
Siel found herself staring at the tall, beautiful man who introduced himself as V as he walked down the lobby of the building, about a few meters away from her table.
He really looks magnificent in that dark blue suit, although he still looks great in that black one. What was his full name again? Damn, I've already forgotten. How could I have not seen him in here before?
She smiled to herself as the broad-shouldered elegant male paused in the distance. He brought out his phone and took a call. For some reason, her memory of their meeting pushed itself through the fog of her hurt feelings and she suddenly remembered that unfamiliar jolt she felt as his hand touched her bare arm.
Unknowingly, she flushed slightly at these thoughts, the reddish tint enhancing her natural beauty better than if she wore makeup. Which in most days, she didn't wear any anyway... like now.
Should I try and get his attention? Would he even remember me...?
Right then, her mobile beeped, and the few seconds it took for her to get the phone out of her pocket, he was already gone.
Damn, how could he have gotten out of sight so fast?
Her smile vanished, and yet she suddenly wondered why she had felt a spark of life just because she saw that "stranger" again. I wonder if it was really him who I just saw. I only saw him once... Not that I could easily forget how he looked like, being that close, but... Oh, Siel, what are you thinking... just stop it!
She sighed, disappointed. But even as she chatted with Nella on her phone, her thoughts about that mystery man still continued...
What is wrong with you!? Just because you've been divorced for three years? Why would you want to get in a mess like that again, anyway?
Even when she was already riding the elevator, the same way she had done for the past five years working here, her mind was still thinking about him...
Besides, do you really think a man as good-looking as him would even think of you like anything special? With your messy life, underpaid job, and your pregnancy-marked body? Seriously? That kind of guy only goes out with supermodels and high-class society girls."
Somehow, she managed to bring her perked-up mood back to its original depressed state as she made her way to her desk to place her small bag of purchases on top.
Then she saw it... "W- what is this?"
Her hand was shaking as she picked up a legal-sized paper from her desk. Suddenly, she was finding it hard to breathe, which made reading what was on the note a little difficult.
"Miss Elena Camden,
You are appointed for an emergency consultation meeting by the Central Management Office. We will expect you on floor 166 at 2:00 P.M. today, December 12th.
Your immediate superior has been notified that you will not be available during the time of your appointment.
Please, be punctual."
Sincerely,
Vincent Riegel
Chief Executive Officer
These kinds of notifications were legendary in the company. Siel was aware of those memos and had even seen a few before in the past years. And the story goes that after the said meeting, the recipient was never to be seen again.
And all of these stories were true.
What did you do now, Siel? Damn it, girl, we NEED this job. What the hell did you do!?
She was about to panic when Diwa came up to her, "Oh, you're back!"
Siel turned to her dearest friend's face, looking pale and with tears brimming in her eyes. Di stopped midway through her greeting upon seeing her co-worker's face and the piece of paper that she was holding in her slightly shaking hand.
Diwa took the memo, read it, and was silent for a moment, "This is an official notification from upper management. Siel, what is this about?"
"I... don't... know."
Even as she tried to comfort Siel, Diwa suddenly remembered the day when she saw V collide with her friend. And later on, when her Alpha started staring at Siel...
Oh, nice to see you, Alpha, she had mindlinked him, being protective of her human friend.
Long time, no see Diwa.
Indeed. I see you intently looking at my friend. So, you haven't found your mate yet?
She was so surprised that she saw him blush!
What is going on here?
She looked a moment at Siel, then back at him... Then back at Siel again and then back at V...
But before she could psychically talk to him again, one of the executives who were with him asked all the suited gentlemen to enter the meeting room.
Di remembered all that, so this couldn't be something bad.
Yet, she can't help but wonder...
V has never been a bad guy, but why would he... Is she...?
All of her confused thoughts, and Siel's, were interrupted suddenly by a bellowing voice...
"SIEL!!!"
Typical... doesn't this brute have a heart? Siel is already upset, and...
"What the hell did you get yourself into?! You better get all my orders ready and every one of my tasks done before you go to that frigging Central Management meeting, you hear me?!"
Yes, Roderick, she heard you. As a matter of fact, the whole bloody floor just heard you announcing that she's going to have a damned meeting that's known for acing employees off! Good job, asshole!
"Good morning!" Raquel cheerily greeted Diwa and Siel, as she entered their office area. "I kinda heard him announcing the end of our lunch break, so I skedaddled over here ASAP."
The new girl had great timing because Roderick was already stomping towards them. He was so furious and so red in the fact that he looked like his head would explode any minute now. However, the moment he saw Raquel giggling in front of Siel's desk, he almost skidded to a stop.
Ok, this Raquel bitch was sent from many management levels above me. Must not let her see me like this... I'm already in deep shit... shouldn't make it worse...
All three ladies watched as he inhaled deeply in an effort to calm himself down. It was so comedic, that R almost guffawed aloud, Di bit on her lip to stop herself from laughing, and Siel even smiled a bit.
"Good morning, Miss Molave, very pleased to see you today," the now-calmed boss said with a fake, lame smile.
"Good morning Mr. Roderick. It's Mrs., by the way. Molave is my husband's surname."
R's smile was genuine and innocent, but her attitude was firm, almost intimidating. It was hard to explain how someone so cheery can be so lethal so quickly. Well, Di could, but this wasn't the time or place to do that...
"Alright, I'll continue with my work. Remember what I told you, Siel, ok? Ladies..." Roderick stated as he walked back to his office with his tail between his legs.
Diwa glanced at Raquel as the rest of the girls watched their boss's hasty retreat. Di lightly nodded at R, complete with a thankful and relieved smile, and Siel caught that little wordless exchange just at the last moment.
Wait... is this letter related to this girl coming here? Was I right that she must have been sent to take over my position? And why is Diwa having non-verbal connections with her... Ok, stop it, Siel! Get a grip, please!
Siel had a tendency to overthink when she was stressed. These are one of those times. Her exhausted brain was now starting to show her the worst-case scenario that she feared above all: the image of her ending up with a cardboard box full of her belongings before the day ended.
I need to focus... I just can't let myself lose it... Not right now...
She tried her best to finish what she could within the one hour allotted to her but no thanks to her boss' megaphone-like announcement, it made it more difficult to deal with other workers who were part of the other departments.
With the amount of work, she had to complete she barely noticed the time passing... again. Yet, she could see that, when she walked to the printer, the legal department, or even the coffee machine, her co-employees would immediately avoid her. Some won't even look her in the eye.
Her paranoia grew exponentially, and by 1:50 PM she was ready to beg for her job.
There was no way she could manage being unemployed, even if she didn't like her position. It was all she had to take care of her babies, and it was almost Christmas.
No matter what, she had to keep it.
"Are you ready?" Di asked her as her friend combed her hair and put on a bit of lip tint.
"No, but I can't cancel on this one, Diwa. Wish I could..."
"Aww, don't worry much, ok? I have a hunch that everything will be fine," Di assured her. "Just being honest about my feelings about this."
"Di... I don't know anymore..."
"Girl, you haven't done anything wrong! Why are you so worried?"
"I..." A second of clarity came to her upon hearing her best friend's words. "You're right, girl. I haven't done anything wrong. Why are they calling me out, anyway?! They can't fire me just like that! So yes, I'll fight to keep my job!"
Di stared in shock at her friend as her volume increased and her fierce expression intensified by the second.
Oh, dear goddess, what did I just say? What did I just do? Diwa thought anxiously.
"Yeah! I'll tell that... that Chief Executive Officer that he can't just fire me! I have always been a good hardworking employee! They have no right to can me!"
"N-no, Siel... I didn't mean that... SIEL!" Di tried to go after her friend, but it was too late.
She had already rushed out the door, with her head held high, furious, and so ready to be feisty. The thing is, she's probably got the wrong idea about this whole thing, which was now worrying Diwa.
"I'm sorry, Alpha," whispered the operations manager of SCIT.
Raquel took this time to approach Di by sitting on Siel's office chair.
"So, she's on her way up?" Raquel asked.
"Yeah, and, no thanks to me, she's in a fighting mood... even hostile..."
"Don't worry, he'll manage. He's our Alpha, after all."
"But he's also a werewolf, and you know how they are when they like a woman."
"Puppy eyes and all silly?"
"Exactly!"
Both giggled, in the same familiar way they used to do when Diwa still lived in the Packhouse.
"So, your job here is done?" Di asked.
"Since yesterday," R answered with a smile, proud of her proficiency in her line of work.
"Means that you're leaving again soon?"
"I believe tomorrow is my last day."
"Then we should go for a celebratory drink after work."
"I agree. Margaritas night?"
"That sounds great! We have a lot of catching up to do."
"We do, indeed."
As the infiltrator turned to walk away, Di gently asked, "Was she your mission?"
"Sort of," Raquel answered after a long pause.
Diwa sighed, "Damn, I've been her friend for this long and never noticed. I think I let someone down."
"It's not your fault. For a long time too, not even we knew. But he knows now, and that's all that matters."
Siel finally entered the reception hall of the luxurious 166th floor via a special lift that can be used only by those who were allowed "upstairs". After she said her name to the bulky MIB-looking security staff, she went through an airport-styled security check; complete with a full-body scanner in front of the elevator's door entrance, before stepping into the luxurious and ultra-modern-looking lift.A little intimidated, she slowly approached the attractive, boyish-looking man who was sitting at a large, executive-style desk near large, ornate mahogany double doors."Excuse me," Siel politely said, as he looked up.Myron's eyes lit up, and so did his smile. "Oh, hi!" he said in a friendly and almost excited tone. "You must be… Elena Camden, yes?" He said with the same tone, checking his notes. She found that greeting peculiar, considering the circumstance but just decided to ignore it."Y-yes. I am. I-" Siel gulped as she realized that she's actually more nervous now than angry. Sh
"Yeah, Mr. V. She's not lookin' so good when she left. Nuh-uh... She really thought you were gonna fire her!"Vince groaned inwardly at Raquel's report via a phone call while he was on speakerphone. He didn't expect that his mate would be THAT devastated over their failed meeting."I swear, V, if she gets into an accident because she's crying while driving, I'll kill you myself!" screamed a far-off female voice that could be clearly heard in the background."Is that Diwa?" mumbled V from his imposing leather executive chair. He has now fully reclined so he can try to recover from his recent failure."You bet it is, Alpha! And I meant what I said! What the hell, you had to give her that kind of letter, huh? What were you thinking?""Di, just come to the phone and stop yelling! Geez, good thing we're in Roderick's closed office, or else the whole building's gonna hear you rage."Vince had already stood up and was now putting on his jacket. "Good luck with that, R. She was never good at
"Ok, so I'm not dreaming…"Siel spoke to her smiling reflection in the mirror. Her two children jumped and ran around excitedly in their casual outdoor clothes. They were now all ready for the "date" and were just waiting for their ride to arrive. Her smile widened as Nella entered her bedroom with a large baby backpack filled with James and Rose's snacks, toys, and extra clothes for this evening's outing. She wasn't even aware of where V planned to take them, but she couldn't help but be thrilled that the man agreed to what she wanted.* * *"If you really want to take me out tonight, I have to insist on bringing my twins along. I hardly spend any time with them, and I haven't been able to earn enough to even bring them to the local amusement park. Besides, I promised myself that if I'll ever start dating again, it has to be with someone who will accept and love my kids.""Done! And I know exactly where we'll go tonight. Make sure you all wear casual outfits. I promise that your babi
It had been a while since she woke up like this. Her early morning routine was the same as any other day, but the smile she had on her face, that she could not and would not remove, changed everything. Even if it was the middle of December and it was getting colder now, life was getting warmer and more colorful around her. Even the little babies she hugged in bed noticed and giggled at seeing her wide smile.“Happy mommy,” Rosie said, and Siel couldn’t agree more. Finally deciding to get up before she was late for the first day of her new position, she still wondered at how wonderful she felt. It was as if those memorable moments last night had brought back all the light that her ex had sucked out of her life. She was still dreamily thinking of how everything was now falling into place when she smelled something burning.“Oh no! The toast!”Too late… at least the smoke alarms didn’t go off.The babies giggled along with her as she tossed the blackened pieces of bread into the trash. N
"Good morning, Miss Camden. How are you today?" The handsome, polite young man at the main desk near V's office doors greeted her as if he were sincerely glad to see her. However, her mind was so clouded that she could only respond with a smile and a half-hearted greeting. "Good morning to you too… uh… Myron, correct?""Yes! It's nice of you to remember," he said with a smile.Well, he seems genuinely pleased to see me. Maybe because he's overworked like me, and he needs the extra help. But V doesn't seem to be that kind of boss. Or is he?"Uhm… listen, I need to see Mr. Riegel before I check on my job description. He said I'd need to talk with you about it, but I don't know if you mind me taking a few minutes before we start," she shyly told Myron."Oh, I don't mind, and it won't be a problem. He informed me that you might be a little late so I am quite surprised that you're this early. He also came in really early today, so please just go ahead since he has no appointments yet," he
Time passed quickly for her after their talk in V’s office.Myron was nice, attentive, and also very well-organized, smart, and prepared for anything for everything his position required. Vince’s Executive Assistant expertly ran so many tasks at the same time and yet he managed to optimize his present office systems which he will now let her use.Siel was practically awestruck by the end of his presentation.Despite this, she now understood why she was taking part of his workload.“Every document template is ready with name and customer, you just need to change dates and input the data, and the formulas will complete the calculations and sums for you. The minutes and emails are a little different, but you can format everything from font type, to size, and paragraph details. If you’re not sure about something, feel free to ask me. I’ll be happy to help you.”She understood what he was explaining and knew the tools but the system he had ready to streamline everything thoroughly amazed h
The restaurant had a classy and relaxing oriental ambiance. The music wasn’t too loud, and even if it was a busy hour, it was large and expensive enough to guarantee privacy to all their guests.“Ah, Mr. Riegel, welcome! We are so glad to see you again.”“Thank you, Lu. For two, please,” Vince replied to the host, who guided them to a nice, cozy table.“Something to drink, Mr. Riegel?”“A Pinot Noir, perhaps? Or a good Merlot?” V asked, thinking of the perfect pairing for the duck.“We have Pomerol. Would you like that, sir?”“Ah, yes. Bring the bottle, please,” he said with a smile.“A… bottle?” Siel said, worriedly since she had very limited alcohol tolerance.V picked up on her tone and tried to reassure her. “We can order whatever else you favor, but I do hope you prefer wine. It would pair amazingly with the duck.”“Oh, yes, I do like wine, but I’m not used to drinking,” she admitted. “I only need to warn you, I get tipsy easily, and we do have to go back to work.”“Who said we h
"Ok, that's enough, V, or I swear I'm walking out of here without you.""How can you when I'm still holding your hand?""Oh really? Do you think that's gonna stop me?"Vince opened his palm and interspersed his fingers through hers, then carefully but tightly curled up his hand into a fist. Now her hand was completely covered with his and their fingers were practically merged together."Try me…" his voice so velvety smooth despite the challenging look on his face.Siel now laughed aloud, feeling the kick of the alcohol. She enjoyed the pleasure of being led around by this suave and sexy gentleman who seemed intent to sweep her off her feet. But despite all the charm and attention, there were thoughts behind her head that were still continuously nagging her…Why me, when I have children? Why is he even that interested in my twins? They aren't even his, and he doesn't have his own kids!"See, you can't even pull yourself free…" chuckled Vincent as he reached for a couple more toddler ov
He heard his phone buzzing on the bedside table. Carefully, the Silvercrest Gamma reached out towards his vibrating mobile and checked the screen…Hmmm, should I answer or not, Lyon?Looks like someone is missing you like heck already, bro. Damn, it’s just been a day, M. Aha ha ha!Ma’Heron chuckled, the sound a low rumbling in his broad, firmly sculpted chest, as he answered the call, “Yes?”“Happy Anniversary and Happy Valentine’s Ma’Heron. Now, when do you plan to get your ass back here?”M could no longer hold back his laughter at the sound of his Alpha’s slightly tense voice. “I don’t know, V. It really all depends on someone who’s very important to me.”On cue, he felt the naked woman beside him suddenly hugging his nude body tighter. He couldn’t help but stare at the sparkling diamond and ruby ring on his beautiful mate’s finger. M’s small smile had become wider as the memory connected to that very gift began to replay in his mind…* * *“MA’HERON!”“ALEXIA!”At the back of his
Meanwhile, the Gamma and the visiting Alpha, as if in agreement, both started the challenge in their human forms…They began with the usual hand-to-hand combat, and even then, you could feel the viciousness and fury being exchanged by the two men. Both had obviously been well-trained, and their past experiences and present expertise could be seen in their every move and counter.“So, your mate, huh Ma’He? And her pack? Are you happy with what you took from me?” gritted the Alpha, now sporting a bruised and cut cheek.“I took nothing from you. All of it is mine - and hers - since we were born,” M said tonelessly, evading a kick to his face and landing two solid punches on Abner’s chestGasping from the hits, the Crescent Moon leader managed to find his footing, then jumped up into the air, aiming a kick at M’s head while screaming furiously, “She was going to be married TO ME!”M dodged the kick and yelled back, still in this strange monotone, “To someone who didn’t love her!”Wow, it’
Everything was ready now…From the Silvercrest spot on the battlefield, Ma’Heron saw her walking regally beside Abner, head held high, hands to her side, stride as sensuous as ever. Her long, thick, and tousled dark mane perfectly framed her oval-jawed and serious face, making his mate look like a strong, determined amazon who was surrounded by her several male underlings. The only evidence of her brokenness was her puffy eyes; and the darkened, swollen skin underneath them.He also knew that underneath her black dress suit, the same one she wore the day she disappeared from work, he would be seeing more swelling and darkened patches all over her body. His assessment was all based on Myron’s recent report to him and the aches and pains that she tried so hard to hide from him during their linked conversations.Plus, the fact that she was even blanking out the visuals of their link, and he’s left with just a white “screen” when they talked, as if she was editing out images he didn’t wan
“Oh, wait, there he is! You guys just go. I’ll follow you to the car in a minute,” V said to the others.“Are you coming, Luna?” Myron asked, smiling while tightening the straps of his laptop’s backpack.“No, I’ll wait for him here. I’ll just see you downstairs,” Siel offered, as she returned he fellow office worker’s returned his warm and friendly smile with a similar version of her own. From afar, the Luna could see, through the glass wall of the room’s balcony, how her mate approached M. Soon after, the clean-shaven Denar was now hugging the bearded Riegel. There’s just so much a person can take, Elena thought as she watched Vince holding his friend’s sobbing form because there was nothing else her mate could do at the moment. It’s amazing how a man that cold, collected, and calculated can be transformed by finding the one woman who’s meant for him. “Mates” is a term that’s definitely something far above the simple love that we humans are used to feeling. His surrender, his loyalty
The Elders glanced at each other with troubled looks, unable to do anything else at that moment. They all got up from their seats at the same time and prepared to leave. So did Abner, who approached the Silvercrest people with a smile on his face and a hand extended, except for the brooding Gamma whose brawny arms are tightly crossed as he stayed in his seat. However, V took his hand and looked him in the eye as he spoke for everyone in authority in the room, “We’ll see you at the challenge, Abner.”“I can barely wait, Alpha. Damien, Melo, Stephen, and Jenna, it was nice to see you again,” the sardonic visiting Alpha stated as he shook hands with the elders, while obviously ignoring Ma’Heron and dramatically opened the door then exited the room.“Please excuse me a moment,” M mumbled then left the crowd in a rush, trying hard not to show his eagerness at what he was about to do.After stepping out into the meeting room’s balcony, it took him only a few seconds to reach her…Alexia!
The whole room was waiting for a feminine voice to answer the call that Abner was making right then and there. At first, it was hardly believable that he would risk calling his hostage, but when the line didn’t answer they figured out that he had tricked them once again.Abner indeed used Alexia’s number, but it didn’t matter how many times he called her. He was sure there would be no answer since her phone was locked up in his suite’s secret safe.“You see? Too tired to answer,” the lying Alpha stated with finality, his cynical smile twisting his small audience’s stomachs. The elders knew, even before the start of the meeting that there was something very much off with his request. And despite them knowing, they didn’t have much proof to counter the untruthful Alpha’s allegations.Of course, the Silvercrest Gamma will still insist on his demands, and everyone expected that…“She is my mate and was marked by me. And I have her mark as well. If she can’t tell me that she is where she w
It was not old news for the Elders that Abner had continually been finding ways to force his canceled wedding over Alexia’s mate situation. Obviously, his intentions were rather shady in the past, as it was right now. After all, they were present during the dramatically canceled engagement/wedding party of Abner and Alexia three years ago so they were quite aware of this problematic issue. However, what the Elders have personally seen then was true proof that Ma’Heron and Alexia were indeed mates.“Might we ask, why is the Gamma’s mate currently on Crescent Moon premises?” Elder Jenna asked, intently looking at Abner.“Well, it’s very simple. One day, she had just finished her shift here in the same building and was walking to her apartment when we met. She was so pleased to see me that she decided to come with me to my packhouse. Since then, she didn’t want to leave me anymore,” Abner explained as he grinned widely, a perfect copy of the Grinch’s similarly looking grimace.“Is there
On the 165th floor of the Silvercrest Enterprises Tower, from which the whole city could be seen, Siel was still listening to the end of Vince’s story. The last rays of the sun came through the glass wall and painted the other white walls on the sides of the chamber a yellow/crimson hue when Ma’Heron arrived. And with him, was the younger and slimmer Myron.“Hello, Myron! M, it’s nice to see you both again. I wish it was under better circumstances, though.”The Gamma nodded silently and respectfully at the Luna.“Hello, Siel! Wow, your first meeting as part of the pack! Are you nervous?” Myron said cheerily, which is his usual out-of-work personality which he hardly displays within their workplace.“I am, just a little bit… No, I’m actually… very… nervous,” honestly confessed V’s Luna.“Don’t worry, you’ll do great, I’m sure of it,” encouraged the CEO’s boyish-looking personal assistant. “It’s more of an introduction for you, so you don’t need to worry about it much yet. Besides, we’l
Just then, M and Alexia arrived at the packhouse! They immediately joined the fighting without even shifting. They quickly got to V, who was still trying to make his way to Alpha Van der Meer…As soon as Alexia and M took their place by V’s side, the Dark Forest warriors moved away, not wanting to fight her. V saw this as an opportunity for the father and daughter to speak causing him to mindlink his Deltas and give his order of shifting their attention to the other enemy pack. Everyone, let’s lead our enemies away from Alpha Arnout and his daughter! GO! Let’s bring them all to Beta Aaron’s area so we can help him fight off the Crescent Moon pack as well! As V and his werewolves rushed off, the Silvercrest Alpha hoped for the best for his ferociously battling Gamma and his similarly continuously fighting mate …Unfortunately, Alexia’s father was not a forgiving man, even if his daughter had done nothing wrong to him at all.Attack them! Alpha Van der Meer mindlinked to his warriors
