Somewhere deep in my heart, I knew things were too good to be true. Actually, it was too good from day one. First, I found a loving mate, hiding behind the reputation of a cruel Alpha. The pack accepted me, like I was always here, and I made new friends in an instant. Now I even had a baby in my belly and an amazing little girl by my side.

But after weeks of peace, the blade that was hanging over our head all this time stroked at last. Not like we weren’t expecting it. But I still felt unprepared when it happened.

I woke up to the distress signals.

In the past few days, I have gotten used to sensing all the pack members, but this was my first time feeling a distress signal. I instantly knew that things must be bad.

“How bad is it?” I asked, putting on my cloak and following Duncan out of our room.

“They moved north, and they are trying to have the upper ground. Also, there are an awful lot of them,” he said with a deep frown. He was still in a mind-link with someone.

“The men are

Duncan had better be ok! I love this couple too much to lose them, even for a moment! I’m counting on a happy ending!

I held his hand all along and watched his peaceful face, listening to the machine beeping his heartbeats. It sounded okay, but I knew it was faster than usual. The doctor and his assistant were working on the other side of a green sheet. They pulled it up so I wouldn’t see what they were doing, and honestly, I was grateful. The nasty sounds and the smell of blood were enough to make me feel dizzy. Oh my Goddess, he was losing so much blood. It felt like an eternity, till they finally finished stitching him up, and the doctor’s tired face appeared above the sheet.“We are finished, Luna. He should be alright now,” he said, removing his bloody gloves. “We stopped all the bleeding. He still has 4 broken ribs and countless bruises, but his wolf will be able to handle that now. We will move him to a room, but I will keep him in a medically induced coma, so his body can focus on healing.”I watched the young doctor, who assisted the surgery and a nurse, roll him out of the operating room, an

I spent the night next to Duncan, then skipped breakfast, and started my day in my office. Nobody seemed to mind they had to come here instead of Duncan’s, and I felt more comfortable here. I listened to the patrol reports, all along fighting my usual morning sickness, till Emma sneaked in with a cup of herb tea, saving me from the embarrassment of throwing up in front of our warriors. “Once again, it seems too peaceful,” I commented when everyone left. “And this time, we should be grateful,” Noah added. He returned to duty this morning, just as Marissa said he would. All I managed to do was make him sit on the couch and put his injured leg up. Not that I wasn’t happy to have him back, but I was worried about him. “You might not feel like it, Luna, but we won,” he said, studying my face. “We killed many of their warriors, so they are probably regrouping somewhere.” “And they will return even stronger,” I sighed. “I don’t think Blackthorn will be able to fill his lines again. It was on the third day’s evening when the doctor decided that Duncan was almost completely healed, and they would cut back on the medication, letting him wake up naturally by tomorrow. When morning came, I started off as usual, heading back to our room to get ready, then to my office to listen to the reports, but I made the morning meeting super fast, and left any other paperwork to Noah, to hurry back to the clinic.I sat by his bed, my stomach in a tight knot, as I held his hand and looked for any sign of him waking. A wave of relief washed over me when his hand slowly moved in mine, and his eyes finally opened. “Hi,” I smiled at him as he slowly focused.“Hi beautiful,” he tried smiling back, his voice hoarse from the lack of use. “What happened?” he tried to sit, but I pushed him back on the pillow.“You nearly killed yourself, that’s what happened,” I snapped, but I couldn’t help but caress his face. “You had inner bleeding. The doctor had to operate on you,” I said calmer again

Cutting pack matters short, we left the office and went to find Rosie.“She slept with me in your room,” I told him as we walked down the corridor. “I kept on telling her you just need to sleep to heal up, and she didn’t seem to be afraid, but she really missed you.”He just nodded as we stopped by her door. Finished with lunch and her pre-school lessons, Rosie liked to wander around the house, or go on trips to the woods if she could talk someone into taking her, but today Emma said she was a little down, and went to her room.I gently knocked and peaked in.“Rosie?”“Hi,” she called back, not looking up from her drawing. “I’m almost finished.”I stepped in to have a look at her work. It was a beautiful drawing of a wolf. No, not just a wolf. It was Duncan’s.“It’s beautiful, sweetheart.”“Do you think Daddy will like it?” she asked, pulling down her pencil, nodding her head to the side to study her finished work.“I do,” Duncan said, and Rosie turned so fast she nearly fell off the c

“Maybe this wasn’t that good idea after all,” I frowned at my reflection. It was me who said we shouldn’t bother with buying a new dress for the King’s event. The dress they bought me for my welcome party would be more than enough. It was beautiful, I loved it, and I haven’t worn it for more than two hours that night, so there’s nothing wrong with it.What I didn’t take into consideration, that I wasn’t pregnant at my welcome party. “What wasn’t?” Duncan came from the bathroom, all freshly showered and shaved.“This dress,” I nodded towards my reflection, studying the soft silk tightly hugging my belly.Even though I refused to admit it even a week ago, it really started to show. Everyday clothes were fine, but this dress…“You are beautiful,” Duncan stepped behind me, and kissed my shoulder. “What’s wrong with it?”“My belly shows.”He just hummed into my neck as he kissed the sensitive skin, and I shivered as a few drops of water fell from his hair onto my skin.“It’s okay. I was getting tired of the polite small-talk, but I kept my smile in place as William Blackwood, the King’s youngest son came up to us. He was currently leading the Silver Moon, and I was happy to see Beta Nico Serrano by his side. “Luna,” he bowed to me politely. “Nice to see you in good colors, Beta Nico,” I smiled at him. “I take it as things are going well in the Silver Moon,” I added as our Alphas got lost in their conversation. It turned out they were meant for each other. There was an understanding between the two like they were childhood friends, or something like that, and I was pretty sure they totally forgot about me and Beta Nico standing there. “It wasn’t exactly easy at first, but Alpha Blackwood is a good leader,” Beta Nico said with a small smile. “I’m happy to hear that,” I nodded. I had no doubts about William Blackwood having more leading potential and all in all, more spine than D’Angeli ever had, but I was happy to hear they could work well together with Beta

  • Her Alpha   55 Betrayed

Things started falling apart a week later, when one morning Warren and Bran hadn’t returned. Everybody was on alert already, when Bran finally linked Duncan, reporting that they found a hideout. He said that there was a big movement, and they were probably preparing for something, but their leaders were not there. He left his group there to find out more, while he and Warren went ahead looking for the witch. Duncan decided that if they managed to find the rogue’s headquarters, he would take his best warriors and attack them before they could start attacking our borders. With that being said, the whole pack turned upside down the minute he dismissed the morning assembly. It may have seemed like total chaos, but in fact, everything was pretty well organized. All our warriors reported to the training grounds, where Noah and Gabriel organized them in small units, all ready to take off anytime. Duncan sent Caleb down to the village to make sure that everyone would be safe if something

“What’s going on here?” I heard Duncan’s cold voice, and it helped me come back to my senses. He was quite dangerous when he sounded like that, but oddly enough, it made me relax.“I believe we need to talk,” I told Warren as I stood from his chest, and held out my hand to help him up.Duncan just studied us with cold eyes, and I had no doubt about Gabriel telling him everything through their link.“You can go and hold your training. I’m staying with them,” he finally said. For a long moment, Gabriel just studied us with a dark gaze, then nodded and left. Marissa looked worried, but I sent her a reassuring smile, and she left us too.“Care to explain?” Duncan asked, his voice still calm, but by now I knew he sounded like that when on the inside he was anything but calm.“Warren decided to help with my training,” I answered, not looking away from him, as he absentmindedly rubbed his chest where I stabbed him. “But in the meantime, he showed me something interesting.”“Like what?” Dunca

  • Her Alpha   53 Before the storm

Things settled down a little once more, but everyone was uneasy. It was like the silence before the storm.I sat in my usual armchair, listening to the reports, but they were the same as every morning in the past week.Duncan strengthened our border patrols on the east, from the ridge up north to the Blue Moon border on the south, not trusting their security one bit after the last incident. That meant we pretty much left the western borders unattended, but Warren and his men from the Crimson were going back and forth all the time anyway, and Duncan was pretty confident about Alpha Blackwood keeping the Silver Moon quiet and secure. But no matter how tight we kept security, patrols reported no rogue movement, or anything unusual.Bran and Warren returned empty-handed again, too. They found nothing on the first two nights, but then they found something that they believed to be a lead. But that turned out to be a dead end.Just like the other three, they found after that. They only manag

After everything that happened today, all I wanted was to snuggle up in bed and sleep for maybe two days, but of course, I couldn’t do that. What I got was a little snooze with Rosie when I tucked her in, and I fell asleep with her after reading. To tell the truth, it felt salutary. The love this little angel gave me and her unborn little siblings was intangible and really warmed my heart. To Duncan’s credit, he really tried not waking me. He came to check on us, and kept really silent, but I guess I just felt him, and woke when he was about to leave.“Wait for me,” I called after him, carefully getting up, not to wake Rosie.“You don’t have to come. Just stay with her and rest a little,” he offered, stopping at the door.“I want to come. Just a minute,” I answered, putting a stuffed animal in Rosie’s arms to take my place.“You are one stubborn woman,” he commented, and I just smiled.“That is one of my charms, is it not?” I grinned at him, wrapping my arm around his.“We are taking

It was the longest 20 minutes of my life till I ran straight to the Blue Moon’s packhouse. With car, taking the road, it was about a 45 minutes’ ride, but going straight down the mountainside, it was about a 20-30 minutes run, depending on your speed.I was pretty sure Duncan made a new record.“They let them through, Luna. The rogues came from the Blue Moon,” Noah’s words rang in my head all along.I was sure it was all just a misunderstanding. They would never do it on purpose. I knew it. Something must have happened, but if Duncan was mad enough to go straight to see Richard like this, I wasn’t sure if he would listen. He must be seeing red right now.Oh dear Goddess, he is going to kill Richard.“They are already there,” Noah informed me. “Caleb and Derek are with him, but they won’t stop him.”“Almost there,” I answered, cursing to myself.I would have been faster if I shifted, but I didn’t want to push my luck after what the doctor said, and also, I didn’t want to face my old pa

In the morning, I couldn’t remember anything about the dream, but I felt like shit. I was sleepy, with a growing headache, and my morning sickness was worse than ever. After I spent the entire morning in the bathroom, Ducan called the doctor on me, but he found nothing. He gave me some pills I could take if needed and told me to take it easy. “Don’t look at me like that.” I looked up at Duncan’s worried face above my mug. “You heard the doc. It’s nothing serious,” I tried reassuring him, as I took two pills with Mrs. Stevenson’s magic tea. I have been drinking this thing for weeks now, but I still haven’t figured out what she put into it. Not like it mattered. It did miracles to my poor stomach, and I was eternally grateful. “Still. You should take it easy today,” he sighed, kneeling next to me. “I will, don’t worry,” I squeezed his hand. “My only appointment is with Rosie in the afternoon,” I grinned, and he managed to smile back. By then, I felt totally fine, so I went for Rosi

Why does he always know what’s on my mind? I groaned internally. I really wanted to keep him out of this, but as things were now, keeping silent might hurt him more than telling everything. “He and Jenny had an argument,” I started reluctantly. “Neither of them told anybody what it was about, but it is ruining their relationship and making things difficult for the whole pack.” “And how does it concern you?” “I think it might be my fault,” I said, resting my head on his arm and staring up at the ceiling. “What is?” “It was about pups,” I blurted out. Wows of secrecy don’t apply to your mate, right? “They argued about having pups?” he asked carefully, and I just nodded. “And how is it your fault?” “I was the one who made Richard like this,” I sighed. “You know, this whole thing would be ridiculous, if it wasn’t ruining their life. Richard wants pups, but Jenny thinks she is too young to have a baby. It is as simple as that. But they got emotional, hurt each other, and now they don
