WEDDING DAY
I sat in front of the dressing mirror, lost in thought. The hair stylist was busy doing her magic on my hair, but that was the least of my concerns. In a few hours, I’d be married to a man old enough to be my dad. The memory of our conversation replayed in my mind like an unwelcome script.
“I will marry you,” I said, even though the words felt heavy.
“That settles it then. You have two days to clear your debt, right?” he asked.
I was baffled. How much did he know about me? Was he keeping tabs on me?
“Yes,” I reluctantly confirmed.
“Then, our wedding will be in two days. I will settle the debt after the wedding,” he declared.
I kept silent. I didn’t know what to say; everything was happening so fast. I felt like I was having a nightmare, but this whole occurrence was too real to be a dream.
I’m Alex Wright, by the way...Let’s go get your wedding dress. I’ll take care of all the wedding expenses. All you have to do is show up at the venue and get married to me, okay”
“Okay” I replied, forcing a smile.
A tap on my shoulder interrupted my thoughts. I turned around to find out why I was tapped, only to see my dad’s witch smirking at me. She had sent the hairstylist away.
“A penny for your thoughts,” she taunted, maintaining her smirk. I completely ignored her.
She smiled and adjusted her position to stand in front of me. I wasn’t in the mood to exchange words with anyone, so I pretended not to see her.
“How does it feel to be a gold-digger?” she provocatively tossed at me, a smirk dancing on her lips.
I shot her my best glare, but she wasn’t fazed. Instead, she casually flipped her hair and pressed on, “You’ve always insulted me because I’m with your dad for his money.”
Ignoring her attempts to get under my skin, I maintained my composure. She wasn’t going to win this round.
“How does it feel to get married for the same reason? You know I’m way better than you. I can’t imagine myself marrying a man old enough to be my dad. I—”
“Get out!!” I screamed, my frustration boiling over.
She grinned contentedly, then exited the room. I’m going to kick her out. And when I do, I’ll make sure to remind her of this moment.
“Ma’am, it’s time to put on your wedding dress,” a lady I failed to notice earlier informed me. The mention of a wedding dress triggered memories of the incident at the boutique. I wished I could run into that rude girl again and unleash my frustration on her. Oh, right, she’s his niece. Screw that, I’d slap her again if I ever set my eyes on her. Thoughts of the guy I slapped crossed my mind, and I felt a twinge of guilt. He was only defending his sister. But that was the least of my worries right now.
My phone rang, and checking the caller ID, it was my soon-to-be husband.
“Hello,” I said, answering the call.
“Listen, I’ll be going on an urgent business trip today. I’ll send someone to represent me at the venue. We’ll sign the legal documents together when I come back,” he said abruptly, hanging up before waiting for my reply.
“Great, just great... now I’m being treated like trash,” I muttered to myself, caught in a whirlwind of emotions.

I stood next to Zara with a beaming smile, watching the makeup artist doll her up. Honestly, I felt like the luckiest man on earth. I’ve always imagined how marrying her would be. I can’t believe that my imagination will become a reality today.
“Why don’t you go and get ready,” my soon-to-be bride said to me.
“No, I’ll go once you are done. Don’t mind me; just continue getting ready,” I replied, still smiling.
She gave me a look as if asking if I was sure. I bobbed my head, making her focus back on her makeup. Moments later, Hailey, my younger sister, entered the room, looking... annoyed? I wasn’t sure how to describe the look on her face.
“Zara, can I have a word with you in private?” she asked, standing beside Zara.
“What do you want to talk about?” I asked curiously.
“Just some girls talk,” Hailey replied.
Zara followed her out of the room, and I stood there wondering what they were discussing privately. Zara and my sister were never on good terms, and the prospect of their conversation left me uneasy. Their past discussions always seemed to lead to tragic outcomes. A few minutes later, Zara came back looking upset.
“What’s wrong?” I inquired.
“It’s nothing; you should probably get ready,” she said dismissively.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah,” she said with a smile that seemed forced.
A few hours later, we headed to the wedding venue. I sat beside my parents while Zara insisted on sitting with my sister, which I accepted. However, I couldn’t stop wondering what the duo was up to. I couldn’t shake off the uneasy feeling that something was off. I sensed a disturbance but couldn’t pinpoint it.
“What’s wrong, son?” My mum asked.
“I just feel like something is wrong.”
She smiled, sharing a story of her wedding day jitters.
“It’s probably because you’ve been waiting for this for a very long time... Don’t worry; nothing will go wrong,” my dad assured me.
“I hope so, too.”
WEDDING VENUEROSALINE’S POVIt was an autumn beach wedding in the late afternoon on a sunny day. The beach faced a breathtaking sunset. Rose and Jasmine’s scented candles were lined up on each side of the beach, and a trail of sparkling white flowers graced the aisle. The set-up was nothing short of breathtaking. As I stood there in my carefully chosen gown, family members and a few unfamiliar faces beamed at me with happiness radiating from their faces. I mustered a smile in return, though it felt more like a forced grimace that left my lips aching. The wedding songs struck up their joyous tunes, and my father, the man responsible for this grand affair, approached me. He hugged me briefly, muttering, “I’m proud of you,” making me want to puke badly. Yeah, he is proud of me for paying for his son’s mistake. What sort of Father is happy when his daughter is getting married to someone as old as him? He linked our arms together, and we marched down the aisle to my supposed groom, who wa
THIRD PERSON’S POV“Where is Zara? Where is my bride?” Frederick exclaimed in shock, bewildered by the unexpected turn of events. How did this even happen? He wondered, grappling with the surreal situation. When his supposed bride approached, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss. Initially, the wedding gown caught his attention—when did Zara change the dress? But then he noticed the hairstyle; it was the same style as Zara’s. So he brushed it off as nothing. His assistant rushed over to him and whispered in a hushed tone, “Sir, your sister just called to inform you that Zara ran away.”“How is that possible?” Frederick questioned, his voice matching the discreet tone.“I don’t know about that, but your dad said you should go ahead and kiss your new bride. People shouldn’t notice that something went wrong; it’ll affect the company,” the assistant said, making Frederick sigh. He glanced at Rosaline, who was staring at him. ‘Was she blind not to have seen that he wasn’t
THIRD PERSON’S POV“Hey, are you even listening to me?” Rosaline asked, growing impatient as Frederick remained lost in thought. He had been calling Zara repeatedly, but her phone seemed permanently switched off. With no response from him, Rosaline decided to take matters into her own hands and pinched his arm to snap him back to reality.“Don’t touch me,” Frederick snapped sternly.“I’ll see what I can do about your so-called company... but first, I need to find out why my Zara ran away.”“But today is the deadline,” she stubbornly insisted, earning a glare of annoyance from Frederick.“Listen, we are not friends, nor are we acquainted, so becoming my wife doesn’t mean you should speak to me anyhow. This marriage is just an accident, and we’ll be divorcing soonest,” he said, making Rosaline clench her fist. Her hands were aching to slap him, but she couldn’t. She didn’t want to jeopardize the chance of reclaiming her mum’s company. Throughout the ride, she kept her mouth shut but occa
THIRD PERSON’S POVNEXT MORNINGFREDERICK’S ROOMFrederick dialed a number with a sense of urgency, his impatience evident in the rapid succession of beeps.“I asked you to gather information about a certain lady. Did you do that?” Frederick inquired as soon as the call connected.“Yes sir, I did,” the voice from the other line promptly replied.“So what did you find out?” Frederick queried. After a few seconds of fumbling from the other side, he finally replied:“Her name is Rosaline Robinson; she’s 23. She has jet black hair, an oval face, eyeballs are black, heart-shaped lips, and…”“Isaac,” Frederick interjected, making him trail off.“Ye-yes, sir,” he answered.“I need important details.”“Alright, sir_,” he said. A few seconds later, he began again:“Her wedding was on the same day as yours and the same venue as well. She thought you were sent to represent her groom, so she married you, and now she’s your wife. Soon you’ll have children toge….”“That’s enough, Isaac. Just email e
MILLS COMPANY "I have been thinking of reasons why Zara disappeared on our wedding day. Honestly, it's slowly eating me up. I feel like I did something wrong. I just don't get it, Victor, I honestly don't," Frederick poured out his emotions to his best friend."You don't have to beat yourself too much over it. You were the best boyfriend to her, so if she decided to leave on your wedding day, I do not think it's your fault. Stop blaming yourself.""But how could she leave without a trace in just one day? I have been trying to find her, but I somehow always end up at a dead end. I might go crazy soon if I don't find her," he said looking vulnerable."What if she does not want to be found?" Victor asked."What do you mean?""The fact that she disappeared without a trace in just a day, is already enough proof that she doesn't want to be found. I think you should move on with your life." Victor encouraged him."I don't know Vic, my heart hurts, I don't think I'll be able to live without h
Rosaline stormed to her room in anger. First, it was her dad's witch, now it's Yvonne. Why were there a lot of people who are out to torment her life? She wondered. On getting to her room, she fell flat on the bed. Honestly, she was exhausted, this whole stuff is taking a toll on her."I need to have a serious discussion with Frederick when he comes back, my company is now safe, I don't see any reason why we should be together. This marriage was all an accident and I bet he can not wait to divorce me," she told herself as she undressed. After getting rid of her clothes, she wrapped herself in a towel and went off to the bathroom to shower. Rosaline was toweling her body dry after showering when her phone rang. Who could be calling me she wondered. She wasn't expecting any call. She picked up her phone, and on seeing the caller, she smiled widely and then answered the call."Bitch, I thought you'd forgotten about me," the caller said."I'm sorry Sonia, a lot has been going on, I couldn
Zara sat on the floor inside a dimly lit room, which was filled with the foul stench of cigarettes and alcohol, Anger visible on her face, as she puffed out the cigarette smoke. A creaking sound is heard, as the half-damaged door of the room is opened and a male figure walked in."Took you long enough to get here," Zara said, without bothering to look at him."I had a lot of business to settle, unlike you who does nothing but stay inside a room all day long," a husky voice replied to her.Zara picked up a small pocket knife that was lying beside her and angrily threw it at the man, but he effortlessly dodged it, making her grit her teeth."If only that bitch didn't threaten to reveal my secret I won't have to sit here all day nor will I listen to your nonsense.""Your foolishness made you get caught," he said. Zara turned around and gave him a long hard glare."Easy there Z, I did not come here to fight with you today, I'm here to discuss a way forward. Since you've been caught, we nee
NEXT MORNING "You really think you can threaten me and go scot-free," Zara asked Hailey over the phone. Hailey had woken up to the call of a private number, and on picking up, she realized that it was Zara. And Zara had threatened her immediately."I don't know what gave you the nerve to call me. When I told you to stay away from my family, your dumb brain couldn't figure out that I'm included", Hailey said, causing Zara to fist her hands in anger."You think you're safe after threatening me?" Zara asked in an intimidating tone, but Hailey wasn't shaken at all."You know I can track down your location with one phone call. It would cost me nothing to put you in your place, but I don't want my brother to get hurt. Make sure you stay hidden forever, if my brother finds you, I'll expose everything to him. And the next time you call me on the phone to threaten me again. I'll make sure to remind you that I'm a Mills. And I assure you that you won't like it.""Do not think you've won Hailey
