Chapter 0009

Danielle thought that Karl telling her to wash the car was an excuse to get her to have lunch with him.

Hence, it never occurred to her that Karl would take her to wash his car after lunch.

As if that was not enough, Karl stayed and watched her clean his car.

The scenario reminded Danielle of a classic power imbalance between a master and his maid.

Once Danielle finished cleaning his car, Karl inspected it and seemed pleased.

Danielle heaved a sigh of relief, removed her gloves, and tossed them aside.

“Can I go now, Mr. Burt?”

Karl grinned. “Sure. Get in. I’ll drop you off at your school.”

She replied with a sulk, “I’m good. I don’t want to ruin your car and have to wash it again.”

Danielle then turned on her heel and left the self-service car wash.

Karl did not insist either.

As he drove his car past Danielle, she stood there, swinging her fists in the direction he drove off.

In the car, Karl watched her from the rear-view mirror and smiled.

She was childish.

Karl was two junctions away when an unfamiliar ringtone blared inside the car.

He looked over and found her bag on the floor of the front passenger seat.

Karl pulled over to the side and fished out her phone. The caller was displayed as the dean’s silly son.

He furrowed his brows, puzzled by the random name.

Nevertheless, he took the call. “Hello.”

Meanwhile, Danielle was dumbstruck when she reached the bus stop and realized she had left her bag in Karl’s car.

She had no money, bus pass, or phone to pay for the bus ride.

Danielle sighed, wondering how she was supposed to get back to school, and considered the option of running all the way back.

That seemed to be her only choice.

She gazed at the endless road ahead and figured that she should be able to reach school before the sky turned dark.

Danielle felt frustrated and dejected as nothing good had happened to her since meeting Karl.

She then started running.

However, before she made it past the 700-foot mark, a car stopped next to her.

She took a closer look and realized it was the car she had just cleaned.

As the window of the front passenger seat rolled down, Karl gave her a callous look. “Get in.”

She approached the car but without the intention to get in. “Give me my bag.”

“You need to take three bus transfers from here to your school, which will take you half an hour at least. Are you sure you can make it back in time for your class?”

She looked at her watch and immediately opened the door to get into the car.

Karl smiled and started the car.

“Someone called you on your phone earlier.”

She pulled out her phone for a look and frowned. “You took the call?”

“What if it was an emergency?”

She bit her lip. “What did he say?”

“He asked me who I was and where you were.”

“What did you say?”

“Does it matter?”

“You took a call that wasn’t meant for you, and now you’re withholding information. I don’t think that’s right.”

“I said you ran into my car, faked a car accident, and left your bag in my car.”

Danielle was relieved, but she did not say another word.

Karl raised a brow. “Is he your boyfriend? Did you have a fight?”

She turned to him. “I think that’s none of your business.”

Karl grinned. The woman was right up his alley, and he wanted to tame her.

The car drove to the school gate of NTC.

After Danielle got out of the car, she gave Karl a nod. “Thank you for dropping me off, Mr. Burt. Bye.”

Without another word, she turned around and headed toward the school.

She had not gotten far when a voice called out to her from behind. “Dan.”

Danielle looked over from the school date.

A flashy Porsche was parked on the side of the road.

A tall, handsome man was leaning against the car and smiling at her with folded arms.

Happy to see him, Danielle ran over and gave him a hug.

Meanwhile, in the Bentley across the road, Karl furrowed his brows.

He recognized the man as Noah White.

It was then that Karl believed he had underestimated Danielle.
