Adam POV “What the hell did you do?” I yell at Wendy. I did not think she hit Jenna hard but as I caught Jenna before she fell, she was limp in my arms. She was out cold. Holding her brought a lot of sparks my way. Our skin touching was opening a portal of warmth I had never felt before. I did not understand what was happening, but I needed to get her to the hospital. She was smaller than she looked when she was full of life. Her pale skin was perfect. I had never really looked at her beyond what I had heard. She seemed frail in this moment. As I stood to take her to the Pack hospital, her parents came rushing out the front door. “What happened?” her parents ask. Wendy steps back in fear, afraid to be punished for touching an Alpha’s daughter. “She passed out,” I say as I look to Wendy. Her father looks at us with knowing eyes, it is like he can see into my soul. He can tell what an asshole I really am and believes that his daughter will not be s
Adam POV Watching Jenna pack her final items, I stand back and wonder what the books were that she was packing. I knew she had finished school so I could not imagine what she would be taking with her that looked like textbooks. Now reading a romance novel, I could see her doing something like that. I had to give myself a shake. I was stereotyping her when I had already made the mistake of doing so once. Had I not learned my lesson? Moving into the room, I nod as her mother steps around me leaving me with her. I had heard her crying as I walked up toward her room. I heard her mother’s comments to her, and I could only cringe as I realized Jenna did not feel that she was going to a good place. She was looking at this like getting through the year and then dumping me. Well, I had a surprise for her. I was not going to be dumped in a year. I would take things slowly to help her see I was wrong, and I know it. I would treat her with the respec
Jenna POV As we accelerate out of the Pack territory, I move forward to turn the music up. I was envisioning a long three hours of silence and I enjoyed music when I drove. I admit Adam was a good driver and I felt comfortable with him in the driver’s seat. Not very often I enjoyed driving with others, including our security. I liked the control of being in the driver’s seat. Many would suggest I have a heavy foot. I would not disagree. I love the feel of the car going at a reasonable speed. I don’t drive to jeopardize others; I drive for the enjoyment. As I am singing along with the current tune playing loudly through the speakers, I was shocked when there was suddenly silence. Looking back from having been looking outside the window, I see Adam smiling at me. What the hell is that look for? I look away annoyed that he had shut down the music. “I thought maybe we could get to know one another a little better,” Adam suggests. I slowly
Jenna POV I was glad Adam had woken me up from my nap when we got to his territory. The lands were beautiful and forest as far as the eyes could see. There was a lot to keep a person busy in the community. I was surprised to see wolves line the street to welcome me to the Pack. It moved me to know someone was happy that I was here. I could not get past Adam’s efforts to try and learn about me. I had no time for that and no interest. After all that he had done in such a short time, I did not want to pretend we were going to be friends. I was committed to the year. That was it. My wolf, Tina, was sad to know she would lose her mate in a year, but she agreed with my decision. Adam’s wolf, Jake, was upset as well and would do all that he could to try and make it work. I felt sorry for the wolves, but they would adjust as they always do. After driving through town, we went around a corner and what I can only describe as a mansion came into vi
Jenna POV We walk back to the Pack house. The walk is filled with Sam and Jack telling me stories about Adam as a young wolf. He got his wolf earlier than the others. That wasn’t unusual – most Alphas got their wolves before others. I got my wolf before my friends got their wolves. Not that I shared that information. I did not want to draw attention to myself. My parents were proud but agreed to keep it between us. When we walk into the Pack house, Sam tells me Adam’s office is down the hall to my right. As I look down the hall, I notice the door opening from one of the offices. I quickly realize it is Wendy. She sees us and turns her frown quickly to a big smile as she walks towards us. I freeze a smile on my face. I would not let this woman think she was beating me at all. Her step falters for a moment before she walks up to Sam and Jack. “Hi boys, did you miss me while I was gone?” she asks. “Were you gone? I hadn’t noticed,” Sam says coldly
Jenna POV Five in the morning came fast. I sat in anger at Adam’s attitude for part of the night. Who did he think he was? And why couldn’t I simply go out and shift with his Beta or Gamma? His behaviour made no sense for a man who disliked his mate. And had another waiting in the wings for our year to be done. Rolling over in bed I move forward to grab a shower. I put a light amount of make up on – lip gloss and mascara to highlight my eyes and put my hair up in a high ponytail. I walk out of the bathroom with just a towel wrapped around me. Getting to the closet I would prefer to toss my scrubs on, but I don’t want anyone to see me wearing them, so I throw on black leggings and a sports bra. I put a zipper up matching jacket on over the bra. I quickly pack my bag with my scrubs and laptop, heading out my door. As I walk out, I run smack dab into Adam leaving his room. He is in basketball shorts with a hoodie covering his muscled torso
Jenna POV After another delicious meal in the dining hall, I made a quick stop to thank Mary, Jesse, and Sunny once again. They had a special treat made for me when I walked into the kitchen. A chocolate cupcake with peanut butter icing. I don’t know how they knew it was my favourite, but I bit into in front of them. I was instantly in love and to see the pleased look on their faces made that cupcake extra special. I licked the ooey goodness off my fingers before giving each of them a hug. “Oh, Luna you are so much nicer than that Wendy. We were afraid to see her take over,” Sunny says. Smiling at the three women, I feel a twinge of guilt knowing my commitment here is one year. I think I forgot what it would mean to the Pack to know they found their true fated Luna versus someone who was a wanna be Luna. “As long as I am here, you will be loved and appreciated,” I say to the three women who responded with beaming smiles. “Now I am off to
Jenna POV My wolf, Tina, was rubbing herself against Adam’s wolf like a little hussy. “Tina, enough,” I scold her. “You may not want your mate, but I want mine,” she says to me snippily. Once she is satisfied that she has enough of her scent rubbed on her mate, she steps back nodding to him to take the lead. He puts his muzzle against hers before turning around and taking off. He was fast but she was able to keep up. He was a beautiful black wolf. A true Alpha. We ran side by side enjoying the breeze through our fur. Adam’s scent in wolf form was intoxicating. He was intoxicating at the best of time, but the ruggedness of having shifted was drawing out my basic interest. I knew it was futile, but I allowed myself to enjoy it for the time being. As we bounded through the forest, we came upon a beautiful lake in the middle of nowhere. It had rocks around the lake – perfect for sitting and pondering life. I knew immediately this would quic
Six months later ... Jenna POV I sat feeding my pup, Grace. She was the most beautiful little girl I had ever seen, but I am sure I am quite bias I think with a chuckle. She had dark hair like her daddy, and silver eyes like me with her angelic features. Adam was an amazing daddy to his little girl. He got up with me for all feedings and took her to his office often to give me a break. There was no me and him; it was one hundred percent us. I loved him more for that. Grace had been born two months ago. I do not know how, but I was blessed with a very quick labour and delivery. I suspect it had something to do with Gracie’s impatience at wanting to be born. She was ready to see this world and meet her family. We knew from the moment of her birth she had a strong aura. You knew you were in the presence of someone special. Her eyes were bright, and she has been aware of her surroundings since the first moment she opened them. It would n
Adam POV As I come through the forest and come upon the scene in front of me my heart sinks as I see yet another ring of rogues surrounding Jenna. I can see the two warriors in front of her being destroyed as Tim makes his way towards her. I roar my anger as Jake pounces forward destroying all rogues in his path. My only goal is to get to Jenna. When I heard from her it was Elder Fred who had betrayed us, I was filled with rage. I wanted to destroy him myself, but I see someone beat me to it as his insides are spilled out on the ground in front of Jenna. I know, from Jenna, that the Pack members present are unable to shift as they were affected by the wolfsbane. It also explains why they could not communicate with me. Fortunately, the rogues were not bothering with them, and I could see the women were pushing the children away as best they could without drawing attention to themselves. I make my way through the crowd of rogues along with th
Adam POV It felt great to have Sam back again. I am sure there is some story behind his mystery woman, but that would be a conversation over a cold beer once we cleared out the rogue situation. I shifted midstride, destroying my clothes but there was no time to stop and change. Our warriors were updating us that the numbers of rogues entering our territory were higher than we had seen before. They might be an army, but they were not a healed army so there would be disorganization amongst them. They would fight for so long before their own goals would shadow what the current head rogue wanted. And it concerned me that the head rogue could be Tim. He knew more about Jenna because of his connection to the Rogue King and Wendy. Clearly it put him at an advantage we would have preferred he not have. As I broke through the clearing, Sam and Jack were close on my heels. I could not believe what I saw. There were at least thirty rogues fighting o
Adam POV Jenna’s father was brought back into the courtroom. Her mother, Luna Ashley, was also brought in for her husband’s sentencing. She sits directly behind Alpha Gordon, with warriors on either side of her. Everyone was required to stand as the judges returned to their seats. They looked solemnly at those of us present. “There is no winning side in today’s proceedings,” the judge starts to say. “There is only room for justice. The atrocities committed by Alpha Gordon Frasier in the case of trying to kidnap his own daughter, in return assisting with the kidnapping of someone else, plus supporting the development of a rogue army leave us little wiggle room for sentencing anything less than life in prison,” the judge concludes his spiel. Jenna’s mother screams and the warriors must grab her to keep her from lunging toward the judges. Alpha Gordon slams his fist down on the table, breaking it in half as he stands also threatening the judg
Adam POV Since Jenna’s mother’s revelation that the rogues were coming for us, I have rallied our troops to get them ready for an impending attack. I have tried to reach Sam with no luck. It is unusual that I would not be able to reach him, but I had to assume he was having a good time. He was due back by the end of this week. I would worry if he did not show up then. Jenna’s mother disclosed nothing more than the statements, “I expect they will be here any time now.”. That had been a couple of days ago. Jenna had a lot of time for painstaking self-reflection during this time. Well reflection on her entire life. How parents could treat their daughter as they had was still beyond reproach to me. Jenna was also suffering thinking of Josie. Not lost on us was the fact that Eric tried to become her mate. That reflects how little everyone knew of the deceit of Jenna’s parents and the Rogue King himself. Had they known the truth, they may have avoided a
Jenna POV It had been a couple days since we had incarcerated my father. My mother had arrived with more flair than I had ever noticed before. When she first saw me, she walked over to me standing beside Adam and Jack. I had expected a hug. What I got was a slap in the face. The parking area echoed with the slap against my face. Adam quickly grabbed my mother’s arm breaking it. “How dare you touch my mate?” he yells at her. “Oh please, you did not want her in the beginning and now you expect me to believe you have changed. It is because she is a healer and the strength she brings to your Pack!” she shrieks. I cringe back hating being reminded of our start. And now I have to wonder if my parents ever really cared for me, or did they only like what I brought to the table? “Why did you bother keeping me a secret?” I ask her as she stands there nursing her broken arm. “What?” she asks me confused with my question. “Why didn’t you tell others I had he
Adam POV I could not believe what I was hearing. Like this made some kind of sense to Alpha Gordon. I could feel the tension and heartbreak that Jenna was feeling. I had wrapped my arms around her, feeling her coldness in the dank dungeons. I tried to move her, but she was standing firm. She was not finished with her father. “What do you get in return for turning me and Josie over?” Jenna asks her father. He looks at her confused. “Jenna, you are safe for now. They have Josie,” he says like he has saved her. “That’s just it, I am safe for now, what happens when they need me? Are you going to kidnap me yourself?” she asks her father. “Jenna, you always were so dramatic,” her father hisses. “What is the harm in healing the men and women to help them?” he asks her. We all look at him incredulously. “You want me to heal an army of rogues who want to destroy Packs?” she asks him slowly. It is like he does not see the harm of what he is sa
Adam POV Jenna had taken a seat on the couch. Jack was standing against the wall next to where she sat. And I was sitting behind my desk. I had been advised two warriors were on their way with Tiffany. The door was open in expectation of their arrival. As the warriors entered the Pack house, we could hear Tiffany screaming profanities at the warriors. They clearly were not bothered by her words as they suddenly appeared with her in the doorway. Pushing Tiffany inside she fell to her hands and knees in the middle of my office. As she turned to scowl at the two warriors, I yelled, “Enough!”. She was startled and suddenly looked around the room realizing where she was. A look of fear crossed her face briefly before she smirked at me. She had the audacity to smirk. She stands in front of me, “You called for me, Alpha? Finally, had enough of your Luna?” she taunts. I see Jenna tense out of the corner of my eye, but she does not rise. I can
Jenna POV I try to get away from Adam scrambling on my hands and knees to get to my father. I hated him in this moment, but I did not want him to die. Adam held me back until he was certain the shooter was no longer a threat. He and Jack protected me with their bodies as we hurried to where my father had fallen. I immediately see that my father has a gun shot through the chest. I quickly role him and see that the bullet went through him. I am uncertain what might have been hit with the shot, but it is a good sign that the bullet went through him. I tell Adam so they can start looking to make sure the bullet did not strike anyone in the diner, while I go to work on my father. I do a discreet scan and see that his heart was nicked with the bullet but everything else is fine. I do a quick fix that does not require a lot of my healing efforts. I put my hand over the bullet hole and hold it there while his wolf tries to stop the bleeding. Bein
