Chapter 6 – Chase

The smell of the pine trees engulfed me the further I went into the forest. I continued to run as fast as my little feet could carry me. My heart’s pounding so hard in my chest, I’m sure any wolf within a mile radius could hear me.

I stumbled over a fallen branch and picked myself up to keep running. I wasn’t sure where I was going or which direction to go. I could still hear the howls echoing in the mountains behind me and knew I needed to keep pushing forward.

Should I try to find humans? Should I seek help from a neighboring pack? The she wolf in the barn knew my name. She was from Blue Mountain Pack. I wonder if they would help me? No, they had attacked our pack, they’ll probably kill me on sight.

Sunset was on the horizon and the forest was starting to get darker. Wolves have excellent night vision, they were definitely going to hunt me through the night. My hip was still hurting from yesterday’s beating, my ribs ached, my head was throbbing, and the adrenaline

Chapter 7 – HuntLukas POVToday is the mating ceremony and I woke up feeling restless. I hadn’t been able to get much sleep. Thoughts of the little mouse in the barn troubled me and annoyed me.Alpha Jaxon had yelled at her for stealing two little dinner rolls and it made Luke angry. Yesterday I had spent most of the day advising Jaxon on pack matters and trained in the afternoon with his warriors. I gave technique and fighting advice, and many seemed eager to test their skills and spar with me, including Jaxon. I enjoyed roughing them up and letting off some steam, but Luke especially enjoyed beating Jaxon. He was a cocky little prick, the only reason I tolerated him was for Donnatella.Luke was still on edge and anxious. I considered making up an emergency to leave as soon as possible. I didn’t know if I could stand to be here any longer. I needed to get Luke out of here and forget what has happened here. Forget her.“Sweetheart, I’m going to have to cut my trip short. I need to le

Chapter 8 – KnifeI woke up to the smell of food. I was in the back of a big van inside of a cage with two others. My eyes shot open with fear and I sat up. There was another young female with short blonde hair about my age and a boy with brown curly hair who was about seven years old.“She’s finally awake! Eat up kid, you look like you need a few meals.” Said the man named Saul I met in the woods earlier. Or was it last night? It appeared to be daylight outside and we were traveling somewhere.“Here, it’s a breakfast sandwich.” The young girl said to me and handed me a sandwich with bacon, egg and cheese wrapped in paper with golden arches on it. It was still warm! I took a few bites and nearly let out a moan it was do delicious. The wolf from the woods was not in the van, I could only see the human.“What’s your name?” She asked me and the boy with brown eyes looked up at me. He was tucked into her side and it appeared they knew each other.I wanted to answer her, but I wasn’t sure

Chapter 9 – LostLukas POVI pulled the river water up into a bubble and brace my fall using my element. I floated down the river and found calm being in the water regardless of how rough and fast the water is churning. When I was fourteen, I learned that I could control the water element. My father used to call me his ‘little aqua-man.’ Elemental wolfs are descendants of the Moon Goddess and have elemental gifts.Gifts are usually discovered when a wolf matures at the age of eighteen and can shift. However, I’m no ordinary wolf. I’m the son of Raven LaRue, who was the only wolf ever known to possess more than one element. She has the fire element from my grandmother Lucy and the water element from my grandfather Diesel. My father, Dimitri Theodorus, also has the elemental gift of earth and discovered his at an early age.I’m the old child of five who actually has all three elements from both my parents. When I turned fourteen a crescent moon tattoo appeared on the back of my neck. Al

Chapter 10 – CityThe sheer number of cars and people is overwhelming. The closer I get to the tall buildings the more cars there are. I went over a bridge and was awed when I saw ships at a port. I never imagined a ship would be so big.I was starting to get nervous from the way these humans drive, darting around and honking. Why can’t they stay in one lane? And what exactly is a parkway? I don’t see a park.I continued driving, following Henry Hudson Parkway. The cars were moving slower and slower as we got closer and closer to the city. I heard Saul stirring awake in the back and had almost forgotten about him. I wasn’t exactly sure where I would go in the city to look for work, but I knew I needed to dump the van and Saul somewhere.A sign said Washington Heights, so I took the exist. The road twisted and turned, and I ended up driving down a street with a shopping center. I pulled into a small lot and parked the van. I could hear Saul moaning and grabbed my backpack. I decided to

Chapter 11 – ShelterI looked up to find an elderly man wearing a white collar around his neck and black clothes with a gentle smile on his face.“I’m father Francis. Are you okay my child?” He asked and I nodded. He looked me over and noticed the bruised eye and cheek I had, and his expression softened.“I’m afraid we have to lock up for the night. If you need a place to stay, our parish shelter for women is two blocks east of here, in the basement of our community center.”I nodded my head and gave him as slight smile to thank him. I looked around and realized I had actually fallen asleep in the quiet church with beautiful windows. He walked me to the door and handed me a sheet of paper that had the shelter information on it. I walked east until I found Saint Joseph’s Community Center and walked inside.I was asked to complete a registration questionnaire, general information, name, age, last known address, phone number. I made up most of it except my name and birthday. I didn’t hav

Chapter 12 – WorkI’ve just devoured my first New York slice of pizza and it was amazing. To think, just three days ago, I was devastated over two little bread rolls that Alpha Jaxon ground into dust. This was shaping up to be the best day of my adult life so far. I had slept in a warm bed, taken a hot shower and had fresh new clothes on. I’ve eaten more food in the last few days then I get in a whole week and I spent the day in Central Park doing what I wanted.I made my way back towards Hell’s Kitchen so I wouldn’t be late for work. I walked by Hell’s Glam Salon and that nice man from earlier this morning waved to me as I walked by. Brews and Bites was a big corner restaurant and bar. Its exterior was painted black, while the rest of the building above it was still red brick. I pulled the door open and stepped in.“Are you Syble?” A young man wearing black slacks and a fancy white button up shirt asked me.I nodded my head and felt a little uncertain if I was dressed appropriate.“I

Chapter 13 – StrollIt’s been two months since I escaped, and with each passing week I feel stronger and stronger. I was off work every Sunday and Monday, but gladly worked extra if things got busy downstairs at the restaurant. I wasn’t use to having so much free time, but it sure was great.I have also become acquainted with Mr. Lee, who owns Mr. Lee’s Chinese Kitchen. I work a few days a week for a few hours with him. I mostly helped with cleaning, washing pots and pans and even help with some food prep, pealing and cutting vegetables. Working with Mr. Lee helped fill up some of my free time. Plus, he not only paid me, but always sent me home with the most delicious food cartons.Today is Monday and I’m off work. I’ve decided to visit Russ at Hell’s Glam Salon for a hair resuscitation, as he called it. Human life is peaceful and easy for me compared to pack life. I put on a new fall dress, denim jacket and boots I recently purchased and felt great. I slung my denim purse sack over m

Chapter 14 – FoundLukas POVI sat in the helicopter feeling numb as I watched Sapphire Moon grow smaller and smaller the further away we flew. Angelo had accompanied the helicopter to come get me. I was able to fill him in on everything that had happened while we flew back to Manhattan.“The auction is tomorrow. Will they have a preview tonight?” Angelo asked me.“How the hell would I know? Call our contacts and see what we can find out. Someone named Saul might be delivering her. I want the location. If anyone is going to buy her, it’s going to be me.” I said.“We could just bust in there and break up the whole thing.” He suggested.“Shifter’s council could deal with it. It’s not my problem and it would likely cause a shifter war we’re not ready to take on.”“So now that you’ve found your mate, does this mean we’ll be taking over a pack or two?” Angelo asked me.He was ready to settle down somewhere and maybe select a chosen mate. He had found his mate when he was eighteen and she w

EpilogueEight Years LaterI had moved to Greece and into the home that Lukas owned which was conveniently located next to his parent’s house in the Olympus Blood Moon territory. I helped with the family business and enjoyed working a few days a week. Domino also enjoyed life in Greece, but I was the only wolf he let ride on him.The Theodorus family had taken me in as one of their own. Luna Raven and Alpha Dimitri became my second parents. They loved and adored Cassi beyond measure. She’s a beautiful, rambunctious clone of her father. The same laugh and mischievous glint in her eye. She has the same jet black hair and deep blue eyes that’s a strong LaRue family trait. She filled an empty hole in all of our hearts the day she was born. Storm would not have survived the loss of her mate if it wasn’t for our pup. She lived only for our pup.Like her father, Cassi has decided to play the Cello. Every time I watched her practice, I remembered the first time I heard Lukas play all those ye

Chapter 36 – MidnightThey returned from their run an hour later with smiles on their faces. My heart smiled seeing them in good spirits. We sat around the fire waiting for midnight.Lukas would need to step outside and take the potion under the full moon at midnight. No one was sure what to expect, if it would be painful or not. If it would really work and if Storm would finally be able to shift tonight. No one was leaving, they wanted to make sure everything was okay and be here to help Storm with her shift.I was seated on Lukas’ lap and listened while Alpha Dimitri shared funny stories from Lukas and Angelo’s childhood. He told us more about the pack in Greece and the other family packs. Then he made baby name suggestions.“Five minutes to midnight.” Angelo announced and my heart fluttered. “Storm, are you ready?” I asked her but she didn’t reply. I could feel hertension. We made our way outside and everyone looked up at the sky. It was a clear and beautiful night. My eyes instan

Chapter 35 – Full MoonI was having a good morning so far. Lukas cooked breakfast for me and I was still able to keep it down. Though I can’t say the same about my head, it’s still heavy from the concussion, and if I move it too fast I get dizzy. For the most part I feel pretty good. Doctor Edwards removed the stitching yesterday and I was finally able to wash my hair. Well, actually, Lukas washed my hair for me.He spoke with Magnus yesterday who agreed to brew another transfer spell which will take twenty-four hours. Lukas still intends to take the potion tonight when the moon is full. Storm is anxious and worried about Luke being bound for an entire month before Lukas’ Great Uncle Ranger takes the second potion to transfer the curse to himself. He will have to wait until the next full moon, and I hope we are able to break the curse. It’s very admirable for his Uncle Ranger to willingly take the curse from Lukas. He’s a very strong Alpha, even in his old age. I remember what Lola ha

Chapter 34 – TimeLukas POV“Please Moon Goddess, take me instead. I know I don’t deserve her, but if you ever hear my prayers, hear them now. Please let her be okay... please.” I prayed. I’ve been praying for three days now.Doctor Edwards had come with us to Sapphire Moon to help tend to any wounded wolves. Unfortunately, Syble was the only one really injured. That bastard had cracked her head open and I almost lost her. Syble was so weak and she had lost a lot of blood. Her healing was slow because she’s never shifted. Doctor Edwards had to stitch her up and stabilize her before we could transport her back in an SUV my father took from Sapphire Moon.Luke has been inconsolable and I’m no better. She looked so weak and pale, I couldn’t even tell if she was getting better or worse. We brought her back to the infirmary at Blue Mountain and she’s been connected to all types of wires and tubes. Doctor Edwards kept her under sedation to help her rest and recover but stopped sedating her

Chapter 33 – Sunrise“Syble that was amazing!” Beta Finn said to me as the warriors from Sapphire Moon ran back.“She’s just as talented as we thought she’d be. I’ll meet you all inside, I need to call Alpha Diesel and update him. Then call my son, Alpha Troy, and let him know we’ll be taking his warriors to conquer Sapphire Moon at sunrise.”“Where is Alpha Troy?” I asked before I could even stop myself. We’ve been here almost two weeks and had yet to see him.“He took my place on the shifters council a few years back, he’s currently in Jordan trying to track a prophet named, Duja. We’re hoping she can help us with the last piece of the golden prophecy my mother gave.” He told us and stepped inside.“My mate and I are going to return to the cottage and put some dry clothes on. We’ll be back in twenty minutes to meet with Alpha Trevor.” Lukas told everyone and shifted back into wolf form.I climbed up on Luke and wrapped my arms around his neck. He took off running and we reached the

Chapter 32 – BreathlessIt’s been over a week and Alpha Dimitri has trained with me every day. Today we’re working on lightning bolts caused by electrostatic when I shift hot and cold air in the atmosphere. Alpha Dimitri set up points for me to target.Luna Raven had asked Alpha Trevor for complete privacy during my training and told him I was having a difficult time focusing with anyone observing. To ensure no one was watching us, Angelo and Camille took Arlo and Cami out to run the perimeter of the training area. Angelo’s wolf, Arlo, is large and chocolate brown like his eyes. Camille’s wolf, Cami, is brown with white paws and a white bib.I’d be lying if I said Storm wasn’t jealous. She wanted nothing more than to run with her Alpha mate and mark him. Angelo and Camille marked each other earlier this week. While everyone was happy for them, I could feel Storm’s despair. The sky was gray with heavy clouds, Alpha Dimitri believed I could impact the air temperatures enough to impact r

Chapter 31 – TrainingIt felt wonderful waking up in the familiar cottage under thick warm blankets that my grandmother had quilted. Lukas stirred awake when I tried to slip away to use the toilet.“What would you like to do today?” He asked me. “We should start with breakfast at the pack house.”“Can’t we just stay here for breakfast and I can nibble on you?” “Your father is training me today. You can nibble on me later.”“Just an ear or breast, maybe a thigh?” He grabbed me and pulled me back down on the bed.“Come on, I don’t want to be late.” I told him and we rolled out of bed and got dressed. We took the jeep back to the pack house and joined everyone for breakfast. Lukas pulled me to his lap and fed me, he wanted to make sure I had plenty of energy to train today. Luna Raven seemed to beam with happiness.“Alpha Dimitri, Beta Finn has secured the east end of the territory for you to train at all morning. There's a big open field. You should be free of disruptions and curious fa

Chapter 30 – MemoriesLukas POVBeta Finn was kind enough to show us to our suite and our luggage had already been brought up. I pulled the covers back on the bed and set Syble down. I removed her shoes and pulled her jeans off. She laid back on the pillows and I covered her up.“Can I get you anything?” I asked her.She shook her head but made no noise. I could feel the distress coming from her and her thoughts were swirling around. I closed the curtains, then undressed and slipped into bed with her, pulling her to my chest. Her little body started shaking, as she sobbed. All I could do was offer my comfort. Luke was howling seeing his mate in so much pain.“It’s okay Luke,” she managed to whisper. “It’s going to be okay.”She never ceases to amaze me, here she is, in so much pain and she’s trying to comfort my wolf. Luke was trying his hardest to take control, he craved her affection and attention too.“You can release Luke.” She said.“You want me to let him have control?” I asked.

Chapter 29 – AnswersWe boarded the jet which was surprisingly bigger than I thought it would be from the outside. The inside was lined with rich leather and fine wood veneers. It had several big leather seats that reclined back for sleeping, tables, flat screen televisions, a tiny kitchen area and even a bathroom with a shower. We had eaten breakfast at the hotel before we left but Luna Raven also had snacks delivered to the plane. Our flight time is about two hours and the plane will be landing in Utica, which is in upstate New York. Once we land, we’ll be traveling by car the remaining sixty miles into the Adirondack mountains. Sapphire Moon occupies the north east part of the vast mountain range and Blue Mountain was more south west. It was easier to land in Utica and avoid Sapphire Moon all together.“Oh, we won’t be avoiding them. Once we get this curse broken, I have some unfinished business at that pack.” Lukas mind linked me. He had obviously been listening to my thoughts.“Y
