{ Vynetta }
“Vynetta Okeanos, what have I told you about wind storms in the garden? My carrots have not had peace in 17 years.”
“Sorry Mama!” I called out from the kitchen.
The truth was that that particular wind storm was an accident. I was attempting to create a small whirlwind inside a cup, hoping for a similar effect of a blender. My latest practice had been precision of my abilities. However if the small tornado that ransacked my mother’s garden was any indication, I needed more practice.
“Do you need help out here?” I asked as I entered the green house.
“No love, I can handle it. Thankfully the structure was not damaged this time, only lost vegetables to gather. You are lucky that they are ripe or I would have your head.” Mama replied.
I gulped. Knowing how true that statement was.
“I am sorry Mama, I contained it for several seconds before I couldn’t anymore. When I finally stopped it, it had already come through here. I don’t understand why the precision is so difficult for me with wind. Water is the hardest of the elements and I can control it easily down each atom.” I told her as I gather rogue zucchinis.
“Netta, water is the most complex to control, but you control it with your logic. It is not affected by your emotions the same way that wind is. Wind can sense disturbances inside you before even you can. It can sense your doubt, your worry, your sadness, any negative emotion and those emotions cause it to be unstable. Your grandmother has told you over and over that you must have a steady heart to be able to fully control the wind. And you know you won’t get there alone. So don’t put so much stress on the precision until you find him. It will all come together after that.”
I sighed. It was the same story I’d heard all my life. 3 of the elements I had been controlling since I was a toddler. Water took the longest, fire was easy but the damage it caused while learning was the worst, and the earth was the most natural for me. I was after all, one with the earth. But wind was a monster I couldn’t control alone. I needed to control all 4 elements of the Earth before I could fulfill my destiny. But with “him”, I wouldn’t be able to have complete control of wind. Leaving me one short and incredibly frustrated.
“How do I know he is even really out there? How do I know he will ever show up?”
My mother smirked, “My love he will never just show up. Of that I am sure. If only it was that simple. I kdon't know much, but I know enough to know that much.”
That’s my mother for you, always cryptic.
“I’m going to find grandmother to say goodnight.” I told her as I kissed her cheek and then went into the house.
I found her sitting in the rocking chair on the upper deck that overlooked our cove. Surrounded by mountains, hidden by valleys and waterfalls deep lay a small cove flourishing with life. It was secluded, an escape from the rest of the world. Its location only known by the few of us who inhabited it. It’s location guarded in ways I still don’t fully understand. Nature itself was the prime protector of this place. Each mountain, flow of lava, drowning waterfall placed perfectly to interfere with any tracking equipment or GPS so as far as anyone was concerned looking over us or at a map, we weren’t here.
“I came to say goodnight, grandma.”
“My dear, let me ask you something before you go.” She spoke softly as I sat beside her in my own chair. “How many days until your birthday?”
I chuckle, knowing she knows the answer but I tell her anyway. “37 days.”
“Have you felt him?”
“No grandma, I haven’t. Not yet.”
She hummed in response to this. We sat quietly for a few minutes.
“Do you worry that Kayden is close to finding us? Do you think he knows of me yet?” I tentatively ask the question that has been haunting me more each day as my 18th birthday approaches.
Her smile fades as she takes in my question.
“I worry he does. Gabryl reports that he has not made any moves that indicate he knows who you are. Each child born is still checked, monitored and introduced to the King. He has no way of knowing, just like us, which generation you would be apart of. But I sense he has doubts about whether you have been born or not yet. I sense that he is beginning to be skeptical of whether you are already here.”
I sighed. This was not the answer I wanted, but it was honestly the answer I expected. I noticed my grandmother’s worry increasing recently and I had a hunch this was why.
“He cannot find you here my love.” She spoke quietly.
“Yes, but in 38 days, I will no longer be here. And then he can.”
“When you were young, your mother and I disagreed about whether to tell you about who you truly were. We disagreed about how much to tell you and when. You know of who you are, we never hid that from you from the first time you asked. But the complete story of what you must face, you have not yet heard.”
I’m sure my face showed my confusion because my grandmother exhaled and continued.
“You know of Kayden. You know he searches for you. You know he longs for your power. But you do not know the history of all that happened to get us to the uprising. You do not know the history of the man who seeks you. Your mother and I agreed that that truth, that story, you didn’t need to hear until you absolutely had to. And my dear, that day has come.”
She paused and looked out to the cove. With winter beginning the frost was the most prominent piece of nature in the cove. My grandmother’s favorite season was spring however, making this cove where winter dominated 3 of our seasons a bit of a nightmare for her. After a minute she still hadn’t continued and I read the emotions on her face as she forced herself to tell me this story. I closed my eyes and connected with the Earth, my other half. I felt the warmth leave my hand and moments later a long vine grew between the deck boards, wrapping around my grandmother’s mahogany rocking chair she carved and made herself. It wrapped carefully around the legs and weaved between the back bars until it reached just near her shoulder. The vine extended gently as I told it to until my grandmother finally noticed it out of the corner of her eye. As she turned to face it I bloomed her favorite flower, a white orchid from the end of it and small jungle flowers along the entire vine itself.
“You always know how to cheer me up, child.” She chuckled. She reached out and touched the flower gently before she inhaled its sweet scent.
“Go and make some tea. Pick your favorite from the garden, and bring a blanket. It’s time you heard this story, through and through.”
{ Prym }
I waited as she came back with the tea and her favorite quilt. She handed me my tea and then settled herself in. At 17 years she was already a grown woman, wise well beyond her years and kind beyond compare. The weight of her destiny was weighing on all of us but she deserved to know exactly what she would be up against. And It was time she learned exactly why she was chosen.
“You know of who you are. You know of who we come from. But to truly tell you everything, you will hear that story again…. Years ago, when I was a child, the world was at a place that most considered it’s peak. Economy was thriving, population was thriving, technology was expanding. But beneath the superficial, there was anger. There was resentment amongst social classes and races. The tension was rising and with each passing year we felt war was brewing. However the war that came, was not the one we expected. Because what we didn’t know was that there was a greater threat than we could ever imagine living among us. Kayden was born a man. He was born to poor parents in the streets of Italy. He came from nothing, he grew up with nothing, and he began his life as an adult with nothing. His earliest history is unknown to many, but over the years the hatred in his heart grew. He had resentment towards not only his parents but every human who looked down on him. Each day he grew more spiteful, more angry and more vengeful. Until the day when we sought out the source of evil.
Kayden made a deal with the source of evil, a deal that was sealed in blood to bring horror and evil to Earth. To corrupt the soil, kill the people and begin about a new world. To do this, Kayden needed to become powerful. And to commit the evil he was destined to, he needed to become inhuman. So he was granted a new power among men. The next full moon, he began his transformation. He became the beast that men would fear. He gained a wolf in exchange for his humanity. Along with Kayden, his followers also turned, creating an army of werewolves who were commanded to bring hell to Earth.”
I paused here to glance at Vynetta. She was lost in thought and I knew she had to have questions so I paused longer and waited. She glanced at me, but simply nodded for me to continue.
“This transformation happened long before the uprising. For with the werewolf blood, came advanced healing. He had a longer lifespan, no common illnesses. His bones healed rapidly and he no longer needed medicine. He had the energy of a dozen men and the metabolism of the same. He and his men spent years in the shadows. They found women, bred new warriors and grew the army. Over time they learned the best ways to hide from humans. Breeding with a human was only a 50/50 chance of a werewolf child so this took several generations. Along with prolonged expansion of the army, they also learned that while they gained new traits and abilities, it cost some as well. The werewolf gene only fully formed in men. It could be carried by women, but no woman has ever formed into a werewolf. And Kayden himself was shocked to learn after many attempts that he was infertile. He tried many women, but even after decades was never able to conceive a child. After some time he sought out a sorceress. She was the last of her kind, she had lived hundreds of years and had remained hidden all that time until Kayden tracked her down.
He demanded to be told of why he was King of werewolves but he could not reproduce his heir. She revealed the prophecy. The one that changed everything.”
I stopped speaking as I heard Netta stand from her chair and walk to the railing. I waited once again for questions, but as if she knew I was waiting for her she nodded her head for me to continue without turning around.
“The sorceress revealed that the source of evil had granted him his powers, but he did not have the powers to grant him fertility. His warriors were turned as humans, but Kayden had traded his humanity for his wolf. And with his humanity, his ability to feel and his ability to reproduce were taken as well. He fought her and forced her to find a way, not understanding that this ability could not be simply conjured up by a sorceress. She refused to even attempt it, and placated him by searching her powers for any information about his future. She revealed to him a prophecy, but not one he was fond of.
She told him, You will be successful in your overturning of the world. You will destroy the human race as we know it, killing those who oppose and ruling those who obey. Your warriors will create a sustainable population of werewolves to live with and rule over the humans. But as long as you shall live, you will remain infertile. Unless you can find the Luna.
Mother Earth will be unhappy with your overturning of the planet, you will corrupt her soil, darken her skies and fill her blue oceans with blood. She will send her spirit down to be born again in the bloodline of Gaya. This woman will be known as Luna. She will be the Goddess of the Earth and the Moon. She will have control of the elements of Earth, but she will also have the power of the moon, this power will make her a werewolf. But the blood that flows through her wolf will not be made from spite and revenge. It will not be cursed as yours is. She will be the Mother of the earth and of the wolves. Through her a new line of werewolves will be created, both women and men will turn. To create this bloodline, Tellus will send his spirit down into a man. This man will be the Father of the new bloodline of wolves, he will be her Mate. The first of the kind. They will hold a bond as strong as Mother Earth and Father Earth. They will be bound to each other, drawn to each other and hold no other.
When she turns 18 her wolf will awaken. On this day, she will able to sense and find her mate. On this day, you will also be able to sense her. She will stop at nothing to find her mate, and he will journey the earth twice over to find her. Should they find each other, Her powers will grow to their full strength and she will have the ability to overturn you. They will mate and they will fix all you have ruined, bring life back to the soil, love back to the humans and peace back from your ruin. But… should you find her first. Should you find her before she finds him and should you mate with her, she will bear your child. Her powers will never reach full strength and she will be unable to challenge you. You must mark her as yours and if this is done, you will receive an heir and the future of the Earth.”
I exhaled as I finished the prophecy. I wished desperately that this was a story I was telling my granddaughter. That this was fiction she could revel in and enjoy. But unfortunately, this was her future. Her reality. And in this story was a thousand things I had never told her before. So I prepared myself for her response.
{ Vynetta } The future of the earth…. Those last words that grandmother spoke held more weight to me than the entire story she just told. Because that was the reality of what I was up against, that was the reality of what was at stake. The fate of this planet. Whether they receive peace and a hopeful future or whether they remain under tyranny and I am forced to supply the heir to continue that tyranny. I heard my grandmother exhale and I knew she was waiting for me to speak. I just didn’t know which question to ask first. I replayed the entire story, the entire prophecy in my mind. Then it hit me, I knew what I wanted to ask. “ I need no medicine, ever. My bones that I broke on occasion as a child healed within a day. Cuts and scrapes are scarred over in a matter of minutes. I sleep 6 hours and feel more rested than you or mother do when you sleep 10.” I tu
I was taken aback by this sudden move of his, it was an act of a subject, not a friend and I would never ask that of him. “Gabryl, please get up. Why have you suddenly bowed? And why have you called me Luna?” By this time my mother and grandmother had rounded the corner into the room and were taking in the scene in front of them. Their faces held as much shock as mine did seeing Gabryl on his knees before me. “Gabryl, speak to me please, you are beginning to worry me.” It was only then that he looked up at me, when I met his eyes I saw admiration, I saw loyalty, and I saw the love of a man who was like a father to me. His eyes were wet and as suddenly as he had bowed, he was on his feet and engulfed me in a hug. “My sweet Netta, I can’t believe it is time. You are so beautiful, so grown, so powerful.” He spoke softly as he held me at arms reach looking me over.
{ Kyda } When Gabryl released his aura, I was stunned. I had known this man all my life, he had been around since my mother was young, and neither she nor I were aware of how powerful he was. In hind sight, it made sense. He was the guardian of one of the original supernatural bloodlines. He had to be more powerful than anything or anyone who could potentially show up at the door step. When Vynetta told him he looked no different, both mother and I glanced at each other. I wasn’t surprised she could see past his concealment, but I was surprised she had never shared that fact with either of us. “Did you know that Netta knew how powerful Gabryl was?” I asked her as we walked away from the training room. “No, she never spoke a word to me.” She spoke to me but her eyes were off on the distance. She had known Gabryl much longer than me, and I was concerned the shock of this would affec
{ Vynetta } A week passed turned into a day before I could blink. The past few days have been filled with revelations I hardly wanted to live through from the mother, grandmother and Gabryl. I sitting along the cove, enjoying the peace of nature for what I was worried would be the last time when I heard someone clear their throat behind me. I didn’t have to look up to know who it was. “What do you want Gabe?” He huffed, “Are you sassy because tomorrow is your last day without a tail?” I rolled my eyes. He could try to make it as light as he wanted but I couldn’t let go of the anchor that was dragging me down. “The tail is the least of my worries right now.” “Netta, in all the time I have known you, which is 17 years, I have never seen you go so long without smiling and it is concerning me. I know you are facing changes, choices and extremely large
{ Prym } It was one hour until midnight. Tonight being a full moon, I had a suspicion that her connection with the Moon Goddess would be strongest when the moon was at its highest point. I hadn’t shared this suspicion with anyone, but we had all seemed to come to a similar conclusion that this would happen in the beginning of her birthday as opposed to the end. “I knew I would find you out here.” I smiled at the sweet voice I knew so well.” “Of course my dear, you always know where to find me it seems.” I replied. “What are you collecting?” Vynetta asked? “Well, that basket by your feet near the water is full of herbs, pain and heat reducers just in case you need them. I don’t even know if they would help, but I will make them into a tea in case you need it. And now I am doing something which I haven’t run by Gabryl or Kyda, but I feel will be ess
I woke up to the smell of Heaven in the form of fresh homemade blueberry muffins and pumpkin pancakes. I purred in happiness at the smell wafting into my bedroom reminding me it was my birthday. Wait, I thought. Did I actually just purr?I heard what I was beginning to notice was the signature chuckle of Juno.“Oh babe, wait till the first time you growl!” She told me.This is definitely going to take some getting used to. I laughed at the visual of not so big and tough me with a vicious growl.I threw on my favorite jeans and an old t-shirt and headed downstairs. As I padded towards the kitchen the scent of breakfast got stronger and I could smell sausage, eggs, coffee, juice, hazelnut creamer… wait…. I can smell all of it vividly, I thought to myself. Juno? I asked in my head.“Yes, yes you can. You have the senses of a wolf now. All of your sens
“When I was creating werewolves, as I mentioned before, I noticed immediately the need for a balance. They need a balance between their human and their wolf, their civil and their animal, their moon and their sun. And as I worked on the details I also noticed how they would need balance in their relationships, how they were a species who truly needed a partner, one who was perfect for them. That was how I created the gift of mates for the wolves. A mate is so much more than what you can imagine. As the Luna, your mate will be known as the Alpha. He is the original Alpha. You are the leaders. Everything you are, he isn’t. And vice versa. Except the necessary personality traits. He will balance your heart, your mind, your opinions. He will keep you sane when nothing else will, he will make sense when nothing else does. He will complete your soul because he was specifically made for YOU. And this will manifest in ways that will make you unbearable to each other. There will
{ Vynetta }As soon as grandmother said that I heard Juno scoff slightly in my mind. I inwardly rolled my eyes at her attitude and thought through what she had said before replying. I felt the sting to my ego thinking I needed practice, but I couldn’t help the the feeling of agreement as logic flooded my mind. I had shifted once and only once. I didn’t know if my powers had truly increased since I turned 18. I needed to be able to rely on my accuracy with both of these things once I’m outside of Haven. I finally heard Juno sigh and agree with me and then I replied to Grandmother.“You are right, both of you. I need to make sure I can be as controlled as possible with Juno and my powers. And it might take me all day, so I am going to head out to the cove now.”As I walked away from the kitchen I heard my mother sigh deeply and then quiet chatter between the two of them. I knew they were worri
I didn’t even register the other 4 sisters screams echoing all around me. I focused only on his aura and on Mari’s. I closed myself off and followed them. He blipped with her to the hill across the field and then he was gone again, the next time I sensed him it was far enough way I couldn’t pin point his location and then just like that, he was gone. I shook my head and I could feel tears brewing under the surface but I swallowed them down.-She’s fine- Juno told me calmly and I focused on her voice.-Elaborate- I told her firmly.-We need to speak with an elder wolf from the area. There are two who are close still. Have Oryn call to them.- she said instead of answering my actual question.“Oryn,” I called out, still trying to push away the worried yells and words from the sisters around us.“Yes? Did he touch you? Are you alright?”
With one swift whirlwind I push Codyn out the of the way and the second I see the knife soar past his shoulder I simultaneously call on the Earth surrounding the man who threw the knife. Vines appear through the snow, despite the terrain and gasps come from the wolves surrounding him. Within just a few seconds vines have wrapped his legs and arms, making him completely immobile. I don’t let me guard down yet though, and I see that my mate has the same thought.Codyn is now standing defensively in front of Scarlyt who has her hands out, no doubt thinking she would have to once again heal her mate. Oryn moved faster than I even realized and was in the same stance as Codyn in front of me. I gently stepped to the side of him, but not in front of him and addressed the wolves.“We are not your enemy,” I boom out this time, using every ounce of my Authority.“We are not Kayden, we are not here to make yo
“I love you,” she said out loud as she kissed my jaw. “Baby, you are my everything,” I told her breathlessly. “I can’t imagine my life without you, I would still be so lost.” I moved inside her and she moaned at the sensation. I chuckled as I pulled myself out of her and got a towel to clean her. She laid there with one hand on her hip and the other above her head and I felt myself already getting hard again. I handed her a towel and she smiled to me, cleaning herself off. I watched her carefully and something occurred to me. “Baby, how do you feel about kids?” She glanced up at me and the sweetest smile grew on her face as she said, “I want them.” “Lots of them?” “I think so, yeah. I was an only child because that was the way our bloodline worked but that isn’t the case anymore so I’d love to have a house full of babies. Little us’s.” She giggled
{ Carolyn }I felt a rush of cold as I used the snow to disappear and go back to our cabin. My little snow portal settled to the ground around me and I shook off what remained. I looked ahead and really took in the cabin I called home. It’s logs were cut from the woods that surrounded us. My mother was an incredible woman. She was handy, sweet, she could cook up a storm in the kitchen and she somehow managed to raise five little witches all by herself. We all knew we were a handful, our powers grew each day yet she took it all in and managed to make us disciplined and precise, she taught us the value of our magic and the value of life around us. She told us often the story of Luna, her eyes always holding hope when she did of one day not having to hide, one day allowing us to live a free life.My heart was racing as I stepped closer and I was bombarded with sweet memories. Our life here was quiet and ca
{ Vynetta } As Oryn was shaking hands with the Elders I felt it. As quick as Juno and I registered it it was gone. An aura in the mountains near us. A man, a hybrid Juno said, but having only sensed it for a moment she struggled to determine his origin. He was an original without a doubt, he was also strong, and clearly hidden. I hadn’t sensed him during the meeting of all the wolves and he was already long gone by the feel of things. I stretched, searched, my eyes remaining closed as I forced out mine and Juno’s power as far as I could. I heard the sound of my mate’s voice but I was deep in concentration and couldn’t make out the words he said. Finally Juno heaved a deep sigh and assured me that the mysterious aura was in fact gone, leaving us with more questions than answers. I took a deep breath and opened my eyes to the sight of a very distraught mate. I felt a small smile on my face as I took my hands out and place
“I think your mate was a tad distracted and didn’t hear quite everything,” One of the elder wolves says. Well shit, I Wasn’t only busted by my mate this time either. I clear my throat as a small blush creeps up my neck but I shake it off. If there is anything I will always own up to its the way my mate affects me. “You would be right, I am easily enthralled by her beauty and her voice,” I admit to the elder wolf who gives me a sly smile. “I was telling them about how we are mostly done here….” Vynetta tells me softly, giving me the cue to pick up after that. That’s all I needed. “Yes, thank you all for your patience and your kindness again.” One of the wolves covers a laugh with a cough and now I’m positive that Vynetta already said that same thing so I continue while shaking it off, “We look forward to seeing all of you next week in your own territories with more good news. As of right now,
I immediately held out my hand and called out, “Scarlyt will you please come here.”She gently made her way through the crowd and after her first few steps they seemed to realize she was the one I was calling to and made a path for her. She crossed the snow giving a soft smile to her mate who sighed a breath of relief. I made a mental note to apologize to him for not calling her back to us sooner. She stood next to me and took my hand in hers. I felt the power of our pack work through us as she was my Mona. I turned my head back to the wolves in front of me and most had their eyes narrowed At Scarlyt trying to figure out why they sensed she was different.Release your aura, all of it. I told her in Mindlink. She did as she was told. Her aura held power, but it was not overwhelming in the least. What her aura held more than anything, was proof. And it washed over the wolves in one sweep an
{ Vynetta }The moment that my aura reached the furthest corner of the tundra and the wolves all boomed out respectfully I felt an insurmountable pride radiate from Juno within. Everything had been nothing short of chaos recently and while I knew who I was, and what was coming, this was the first time I ever felt like what I was, a queen. Looking over thousands of wolves who awaited the right words, the right orders was intimidating, but having my mate beside me lowered my anxiety greatly. His aura washed over me and his scent wrapped itself around me once again as my knees went weak, Goddess what that scent alone does to me. I watched him carefully as he nodded gratefully to the wolves to stand and then I gave him my full attention as I waited for him to address them as well.“My name is Oryn. I am a descendant of Tellus, and I am proud to stand before you today as the Alpha. I was like most of you. I was born dif
{ Oryn } I stand with Vynetta beside me as wolves funnel in and slowly fill up this icy cove-like area that we chose as the spot for this first meeting. We are positioned among the wolves, Vynetta looking like a simple family member of myself to the incoming wolves, a few of whom I notice also bring with them members of the family. Mostly men, but I spy a couple other women in the group as it grows larger. Codyn stands in front of everyone with a scowl etched on his face, his stance wide and his arms crossed as he radiates power. He is more powerful since he became Beta of our Pack, but we were able to work with him on suppressing this in his aura for these meetings. From where we and the wolves are standing, he looks like a pissed off and intimidating general for Kaydan’s army which is exactly what we were aiming for. There is a few silent minutes that go by when no more wolves are entering the area. I see Codyn n
