Emily’s POV.

A shiver charred down my spine at his command. It wasn’t just his words but the way his eyes darkened as he stared at me; reminding me of how he pleasured me the other morning by the window.

I was wearing two-piece sleepwear made from expensive silk. The top was a sleeveless chemise of a pale ivory hue. Its neckline was adorned with delicate lace and small embroidered flowers in white and gold thread. The second half was a matching silk skirt. It was long and flowing, with a subtle shimmer that caught the dim light of the room. The waistband rested gently on my hips and was secured by a silk drawstring that flowed into soft pleats beyond my knees.

Slowly, I slipped the top over my head, the soft material gliding down my arms before I dropped it on the bed. Calix’s gaze widened slightly, his dark eyes trailing over the sight of my bare skin. When his gaze lingered on my brea, sts, his jaw tightened, and a faint flush crept up his neck. He glanced away for a moment, as

Emily’s POV. “I’d like to ride with Lady Leia—alone,” I said, and an awkward silence fell in the courtyard, just like the other day in the dining hall. “What?” Leia gasped, staring at me as though I'd grown an extra head. Han’s eyes were as wide as meatballs and Calix stiffened—his gaze flickering suspiciously between Leia and me. “Yes, thank you.” I offered them a warm smile and took the footman’s hand, stepping gracefully into the carriage. I settled into my seat and then popped my head through the window. “Are you coming, Lady Leia?” She glanced at Calix as though seeking his permission to proceed, and then gulping, she gazed at me and smiled. “Of course, Your Highness.” She joined me in the carriage and the footman shut the door. Across the window, Calix and Han continued to gaze at me even as I tapped the carriage and the chauffeur moved forward the carriage. Moments later, Leia and I exchanged a quiet glance as the three carriages came to a brief stop at the castle

Emily’s POV. The sun dipped low in the sky as we arrived at the castle, casting long shadows across the courtyard. The air was tinged with the coolness of dusk, and a light breeze rustled the banners hanging from the castle walls. Our carriage halted before the grand terrace and Calix stepped out first, his movements fluid and commanding. He turned to me and offered me his hand. A smile tugging at my lips, I took his hand and he helped me down the carriage. We proceeded to the dining hall and settled down to a sumptuous dinner, after which Calix and I steered upstairs to our room. “Please sit.” Calix gestured at the couch. He disappeared into the washroom and came out with a remedy box. “Allow me,” he said, and took my bruised arm. His touch was gentle as he cleaned the wound, his focus unwavering. “What was that in the morning?” he asked, breaking the silence that’d followed. “Why did you suddenly ask to ride with Leia?” He tried to hide it, but there were traces o

Calix’s POV A faint breeze swept through the battleground as Han and I descended from our carriage. My gaze settled on my mate, and Leia disembarking from theirs. Their laughter echoed softly across the grounds, the easy camaraderie between them igniting an all-too-familiar sting of jealousy in my chest. I tried to ignore the way Emily leaned closer to Leia as they exchanged words, their expressions effervescent. The sight tightened the knot of frustration coiling up inside me. “Do you think something is going on between those two?” Han whispered, glancing at me. “Not in the way you’re insinuating,” I snapped, though the uncertainty in my own voice betrayed me. “Then what is it?” Han pressed on. “Because I’ll be honest, it feels like they’re hiding something. Something big.” “Obviously, there’s something they know that we don’t,” I replied and glanced at my beta. Han frowned, his brows pulling closely as he stared back at me. “Do you think it’s about Leia’s mate?”

Calix’s POV. At my command, Han had mind-linked the chauffeur and our carriage steered toward the castle’s gates. However, I glanced across the window and couldn’t comprehend the shocked expression on my mate’s face. Just moments ago, she was eager to spend time with my cousin and now that I was granting her heart’s desire, she was acting shocked? Facade. It was all a facade, I guess. Our carriage continued past the castle’s portcullis and rode down the drawbridge. “Do you have any special place in mind for visiting?” Han asked, breaking the silence that’d followed in the carriage. “Let's just ride around the town for now,” I said. “I just need to see the people and how they’re going about their day.” I glanced at Han, and he was holding in a laugh. “Spill it.” “Did you suddenly remember your people after a little friction with your mate?” he teased. “You’re impossible!” I rasped and he laughed. But he was right though. Since I arrived at Tyr, I’d been engrosse

Emily’s POV. My cheeks burned as I realized I’d just been caught ogling him. This shouldn’t be happening, I should still be mad at him for coming home with someone else’s scent on him. But Moon Goddess, how could one man be so devastatingly perfect? Those broad, powerful shoulders, the enticing dusting of hair across his sculpted chest, and the ridges of his abdomen, carved like the finest stone. And then, lower still, the weight of his masculinity—bold and imposing, a silent promise of strength. It was almost too much to take in, leaving me breathless and dazed. “I-I,” the words caught in my throat and refused to form. “What?” he asked, a teasing smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth. “I’m still angry at you,” I finally said and looked away. His laughter reverberated throughout the room as I strolled to the window and gripped the ledge. More than anything, I wanted to go back to him and hit him hard on the chest, but the thought of standing so close to him with his membe

Emily’s POV. The moment my hands wrapped around him, a growl tore from his lips. For a moment, I couldn’t breathe. My hand felt so small against the sheer size of him, trembling as I held and felt him. He was warm and impossibly hard, yet the skin of his shaft was so soft like velvet. I dared to glance up at him and his head was thrown back, his lips parted as he sucked in shallow breaths. The air between us thickened, the room narrowing just to the two of us as I began to explore the length of him, Leia’s teaching flashing the back of my mind. “Emily, you’re playing with fire,” he groaned, and I couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at my lips as I stroked him. “Maybe I want to get burned,” I teased, my fingers brushing the base of his hard length. He lowered his head and our gazes locked—the hunger in his eyes capable of burning an entire forest. I knew I was playing a dangerous game but I couldn’t bring myself to stop. There was a thrill in testing the limits of his

“Calix?” He pushed his chair and stood, his movements lithe as predator, he rounded the table and stood before me. Before I could another word, he grabbed my wrist and pulled me to my feet. “Do it again,” he said. “What?” He ripped my chemise into two and licked my bre, asts, exactly the spot the drink had landed. Oh! And I understood the assignment. Shamelessly shivering with need, I poured droplets of wine on my brea, sts and he slurped them up almost hungrily. The sensation of his lips on my skin sent shivers down my spine, making my pulse race. “More,” he commanded. I let the wine spill over the soft curves of my breasts, the liquid cool against my heated skin. A soft moan slipped from my lips as he leaned down again, his lips tracing the droplets as if savoring every drop, every inch of me. My knees buckled and I leaned into him. "Again," he murmured, his voice hoarse. "Give me more." Without hesitation, I emptied the glass on my bre, asts, the content spilling like a

Emily’s POV. A growl rumbled his chest and he crashed his lips against mine. Our lips met; moved and dissolved. And then he climbed the bed, kneeling before me, he positioned his shaft at my nether lips. “This is going to hurt a little, bella, but after that, I promise you it’s going to be raw pleasure,” he said. I bobbed my head with anticipation, though a part of me was nervous. He soothed me with gentle kisses, starting from my neck, down my to torso, and then he took turns on my n,pples…taking each into his mouth and sucked until I was a moaning mess. Letting go of my breas,ts, he claimed my lips in a passionate kiss as he straightened ontop of me and pushed himself forward. The crown of his shaft pushed into my folds and I gasped, pain shooting through me. Fvck! I didn’t realize he was this big, it was only the cap of his member, yet it felt as though my chest was about to rip. “You’re so big!” I puffed. “Yes, baby…Just the way the Moon goddess made for you.” His f

Calix’s POV. After letting go of Thane, we released the Azaleans we held prisoners, and then retreated to our vessels. “Weigh anchors!” Han’s voice clamored, resounding in the night breeze. The lead vessel lurched forward as we set out for Tyr. Inside the Great Cabin, I carefully cleaned my mate with warm water. She whimpered and flinched at my touch, shrinking away as if expecting pain. My jaw clenched. Weeks of torture had made her fear even the gentlest of hands. She believed everyone who came near only meant to hurt her. Sighing, I reached for the bowl of soup on the table, scooped a spoonful, and brought it to her lips. “Here, have something to eat.” She hesitated, and then finally parting her lips, she took a sip and chewed slowly. “The stars.” She giggled. “There are stars in the soup.” “What?” She pointed at the vegetables in the soup. “I like the stars. Do you like them too?” I wavered for a second. “Y-yes. I like them too.” To prove it, I took a scoop of the

Calix’s POV. “Land Ho!” the lookout man hollered. I was in the Great Cabin with my officers, finalizing battle strategies should Alpha Thane try to prove stubborn, when suddenly the cry echoed through the ship. We finished and I pushed back my chair. I strode to the deck of the ship, my officers falling into steps behind me. Behind the wheel of the lead vessel, stood Han, steering the ship and dishing out instructions. “Prepare for docking. We make landfall, and we move in formation!” he bellowed. A radioman passed the information to the captains of the other ships. I stretched forth my hand and an officer handed me a spyglass. Stepping toward the bow of the ship, I glimpsed the island called Azalea. Azaleans were already running helter-skelter towards their city gates, mothers clutching their children, merchants abandoning their stalls. Guards rushed out to man the fortress walls. The city bell tolled in frantic warning in a distance as soldiers poured onto the ramp

Calix’s POV. I hated the slight tremor in my hands as I stepped away and read the letter. The first paragraph spoke of how he missed her. The next confirmed they had arrived safely in Azalea—and that my mate was truly sick. A growl rumbled in my chest as I read about my mate’s suffering at the hands of the same people who were supposed to protect her. Unbridled fury crashed through me and I closed the letter. “No! That's not possible!” I raked my fingers through my hair and paced the room. “If she’s really going through this suffering, how come I am not feeling it too through our mate bond? At least, we’ve marked and still remain fully mated to each other.” “Randolph cannot lie to me,” Leia defended, cradling her stomach. “He might have kept a truth from me, once, the letter Princess Emily wrote to him while they were still here. But he would never lie to me!” she stressed. “I never said he was lying.” “Then what are you trying to say?” she asked. Sighing, I stoppe

Randolph’s POV.“Land Ho!” the lookout man hollered.I took out my spyglass and glimpsed at the island ahead. It's been hours since we left the shores of Tyr, hours since I left Princess Emily in the Great Cabin, having watched over her until she slept off, and joined the crew on the main deck. The captain had inquired about our my destination, and I told him Azalea. Now, at last, there she stood. Above us, silhouettes of birds flitted across the sky as first stars twinkled into existence. “Prepare the lines!” the captain’s voice rang out. “Ease the sails and slow her down!” The crew sprang into action, uncoiling the thick ropes and securing the sails. Soon, the ship glided forward, hauled by the gentle current. The salty breeze thickened with the scent of damp wood and seaweed as we neared Azalea’s harbor.“Drop anchor!” the captain called.A heavy splash followed as the heavy metal plunged into the depths of the sea, sending ripples across the water’s surface. Calix’s POV. I sat on the edge of my bed, staring at the half-empty bottle in my hand. I had been drinking for hours, pouring glass after glass, hoping the burn of the wine would drown out the ache in my chest. But it only dulled it—never erased it. The sun had long since set, replaced by a moon that peeked through the narrow window, casting a pale glow over the room. The bottle tilted as I brought it to my lips again, the last remnants of wine sliding down my throat. “I love you.” Her words echoed in my head. A bitter laugh rumbled in my chest. Love? Was this what love felt like? A twisting knife in the gut? A slow, suffocating betrayal? I had spent nights blaming myself, thinking I had failed her as a mate, as her alpha. I had torn myself apart searching for answers, wondering what went wrong. And all this time… she had been lying. Pretending. Manipulating me into letting her go. Snarling, I rose to my feet and hurled the bottle against the wall. The impact echoed th

Emily’s POV. “Princess Emily!” “Princess Emily, where are you?” Leia’s voice echoed in the distance. A raspy groan escaped my lips as I rolled on my back. My eyes fluttered open, and I welcomed nothing but the blurry scenery of the forest. It slowly blurred to focus and a sharp pain, seared through my chest, settling triumphantly in my head. I whimpered from the pain. “Leia?” My voice was so tiny I could barely hear myself. “Leia?” Footsteps rushed toward me, and suddenly, Leia emerged from the trees, a handful of warriors behind her. A gasp slipped from her lips and her eyes widened with shock. “Your Highness?” Leia darted to my side and plummeted to the floor. “Your Highness, what happened to you?” “Thank goodness you’re here,” I panted, struggling to push myself up. “She took a strand of my hair.” “Who?” Leia grasped my arm and helped me to my feet. “A witch. She had a dagger—she tried to hurt me. When I overpowered her, she turned to dark magic instead.” Lei

Emily’s POV. The forest quickly enveloped me as I followed the narrow path, forging towards the unknown. The whisperings continued, growing louder with each step that I took. And there was a distant laughter growing closer with every passing second. An eerie feeling washed over me and my heart began to thump in my ears. Wait. What am I doing here? I shouldn't be this far away from the training grounds. I turned to leave, when suddenly, the whisperings and laughter stopped, and another sound reached my ears. Footsteps within the trees. “Who’s there?” I asked. A sudden breeze rustled the branches and leaves of the trees, and suddenly, a shadow flickered past. “Show yourself!” I commanded. “Hello, Emily Blakesley.” A feminine voice said within the trees. “I said, show yourself!” I repeated. “Then you’ll be afraid,” the voice said. Suddenly, a woman emerged from the trees, not so old, not young either. She was draped in a black dress and cloak, the tattered hem of her r

Emily’s POV. The room fell into utter silence at the question. My heart pounded against my ribs as all eyes turned to me. I glanced at Calix from the corner of my eye. He was perfectly still, his gaze locked on me. I could feel the tension in the way his fingers brushed mine. Taking another deep breath, I nodded. “Yes, I love him,” I answered with all sincerity. A few chuckles echoed around the room and Calix exhaled slowly, lifting my hand to his lips. He pressed a kiss against my knuckles. “I love you too, my Luna,” he whispered. The others purred, Leia leaning into Randolph for a kiss, while Han rolled his eyes. As for me, guilt gnawed at my chest. I had hurt him in a way no lover should. Randolph and I exchanged knowing glances and a thought occurred in my head. “What about you, Han? What about your mate?” I suddenly asked. “Yes, that’s true,” Calix chipped in. “What happened to the red-haired you danced with the first night we arrived here? For a moment, I w

Emily’s POV. It was supposed to be simple. I was supposed to pretend to be sick until he got irritated and sent me away. It was supposed to be that simple. But instead of loathing me, the mate the Moon Goddess gave me cared for me. He stayed with me. He made sure I lacked nothing while I unraveled in the false world of madness I had created. The harder I tried, the more determined he became—his care unwavering, his protectiveness suffocating me in its sincerity. Even to the point of losing himself. This morning, watching him reveal his deepest family secret, and his declarations to our bond crumbled the walls of my defense. Guilt clawed at my chest, squeezing so tightly at my lungs that I could barely breathe. But why? Why did he hide the truth about Randolph from me? Why did he make me feel like a pawn in his game? Made me feel like whatever that we had was a lie? Tears burned my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. One slipped away anyway, and he wiped it with his t
