Chapter 75

Rose didn't know that a day would come when her shoulder would bring succor to Feria. Here she was on her shoulder softly sobbing.

But that didn't bother her as much as the message she had just received. Everything she had just built up—the love, the trust—came down in rubble in a few seconds.

Rubbles. Huge grainy rubbles which sank to the bottom of her heart and made it ache.

Just a day ago, she was happy that the winds of fate had swept her all the way out to Nostville. But right now, she wished she could take back every life decision she made that brought her here in the first place.

But it was too late. She had already fallen deep into the trap that had been laid for her by Grim. Her thigh had been caught in the sharpened teeth and no matter which way she chose to go, the pain was equally worse; whether it was back to him or as far away from him as possible.

“What a time to be in love! The worst of times. I wish I had never met that man. I wish he had never rescued

Chapter 76 Rose backed away even further. She had no weapons on her so there was no trying to play defense. “Feria, please stop!” She cried out. “Look at you begging for mercy now. When you had your slimy disgusting tentacles all over my man trying to snatch him from me, hadn't I asked you to stop?”Feria had gone the easy way with a confrontation and had even tried the hard way. But Rose had been adamant. “You can't do this. Everyone will know that it's you.” Feria had just pulled up to a fistfight with a knife.“You think they would give a damn if a common maid shows up missing. The fact that you're a werewolf makes it even better. They are going to have a field day on your carcass.” “It's not going to play like that,” Rose insisted. “Even if you did have the might to kill me, you still wouldn't get Grim. What do you gain?” There was no remorse or sympathy in those dark eyes that stared back at Rose. All they knew was destruction! “I would finally be at rest knowing that I

Chapter 77Dale strapped his knife just before he stepped out. It was the most important part of his dressing. He didn't have a clue what he was going to encounter when he walked into the palace so all he could was be prepared. “You have no business going after her!” His wolf warned him. But once again he had turned a deaf ear. If she wasn't important to him, why then couldn't he stop thinking about her since she had walked out on him? He just wanted to talk to her, that's all. Well, that's a lie. This was a strange feeling. He had never craved more from women than lust. After he had finished mating, her presence only brought him irritation. He did away with women like he changed his clothes. Few eventually mustered the courage to walk away from him. Feria was the first woman who had walked away from him but she still resided in his heart. “You just need her to successfully get back at Grim!” That was the lie he had been telling himself. But it didn't take long for the truth to

Chapter 78 This was the first time Lord Grim had come across his brother since he had walked in on the latter making love to Feria. He had intentionally avoided Dale. Even when he had walked into the courtyard, he had seen his brother but hadn't paid him any heed until now. “Step out of the way, Dale. This is not a matter for you to bother yourself with. The task I gave you, I’m yet to get any feedback from you.” The longer Grim stood closer to his brother, the harder it got for him to hold himself from giving the latter a nasty whooping. “How long are you going to keep covering for that fugitive? Is it until she puts Feria in a grave that her manipulative veil is going to fall off your eyes?” Dale thundered with rage. The crowd began whispering amongst themselves. The chaos had calmed, but the onlookers were still rowdy. Some who had just joined the group sought explanations, each reporter with a different narrative. “He is right, Alpha! We don't feel safe having her

Chapter 79“Is there anyone who wants to show a challenge of my rulership?!” Grim yelled into the crowd. But everyone was silent. After witnessing what had just happened to Dale, no one wanted a piece of him. There had been rumors going around that he was weak but his performance has done a good job of setting the tone straight. He was not to be messed with! “I thought as much.” He snapped his finger, summoning healers who had arrived at the scene. He then directed them towards Feria. “What about the fugitive?” One of the healers asked. “Don't worry about her. I'll take care of her!” He carried Rose into his arms before turning to the crowd. “This goes as a warning to everyone! Anyone caught trying to harm or defame Rose will have me to contend with. As for the events of today, I'm going make sure I go through it and come up with a fair ruling.” Those were Grim's last words as he zoomed off towards the Sorceress’ shrine. At his departure, the people had dispersed. They whis

Chapter 80The surprise at the sight of the sorcerer didn't have the chance to take root. Both Grim and Rose were more interested in her message than her presence. “What have I done again?” Rose questioned herself. She turned to grim. “I told you that I shouldn't have been brought here. Now I'm going to turn into a demon again.” “It's not you,” the Sorceress explained. “It's something else. I had a vision from the Goddess about it but I didn't fully understand. That's why I had come here incase something like this happened. I didn't want to be caught off guard.” Grim's first instinct was to pull Rose to his side for protection. Right then, she was his utmost responsibility. Two guards immediately rushed to his side. “Lord Grim please come with us. We will take you somewhere safe before the chaos begins,” one of the guards whispered in his ear. He was not the only one about to be escorted out. The other royals had guards by their side and they were trying to make their way out t

Chapter 81 “What is it, Feria? Stay out of this!” Dale warned. Meanwhile, Feria began making her way over to where Dale stood. All eyes were on her. Lucky was she not to tremble or trip from all the pressure. There was a reason she had decided to remain on the sidelines. She had to endure watching Grim being painted as the bad guy. But if there was anyone who ought to be asked how Lord Grim truly was, it was her. After all, she was the one who had lived in the same bed as him. He didn’t love her that much, but she knew everything about him—from his actions, the way he handled matters, and his thought processes. “Don’t tell me you’re fixing to defend this murderer and womanizer,” Dale blurted out as soon as he caught her staring in Grim’s direction. “I’m not here to defend. I’m here to tell the truth.” For the first time, she was prepared to say things as they were. It didn’t matter if the truth was going to put her under criticism or not. “Grim was a monster. He used

She was aware that she would not be respected solely because Grim had proclaimed that something bad was going to befall anyone about to mess with her. They welcomed her nonetheless. If there was any whispering or rumors, it was spread after Grim had left the room. The ultimate respect was accorded to her as their Queen. But Rose didn't like the fact that she had to be respected because of an order. She wanted to earn the respect. “Come on,” Grim told her one day when he had had it up to his neck. “You can't spend all day indoors doing nothing. Move around, get yourself going.” “I'm scared,” she wasn't shy to confess. “What is going to happen if I get in trouble and you're not there to defend me?” “Don't worry about it. No one can mess with you. I can come with you if you would like.” “That would be unnecessary. You are already busy. There is no way that I am going to keep you distracted when I'm su

Chapter 83 Rose's mind ran wild with memories of Joe. Feria had been a thorn in her flesh—spying on errands, mocking her, and finally, trying to take her life. She had a big heart and was ready to forgive, but she would never forget. She couldn't. Whenever she thought about the past, the scars she had suffered at Feria's mercy would always be etched into the sands of time. She touched Feria's arm. “Get up, Feria. There is no punishment for you.” Feria looked up slowly. “Are you sure? You don’t want me to be your slave for the rest of the time you’re going to be here?” “No.” “I can do all the dishes, sweep, do all the chores. You can ask me to do anything, and I’ll do it just to pay for what I did!” Judy smacked her lips. “Say yes, Rose. I’m sure there are a lot of clothes I would like to be washed again and ironed to sharpness!” Rose shot her a gaze, and she looked away. “No, Feria. I don’t have any punishment for you. You can leave as free as you came here. Get up.”

Chapter 112 The entire Solemn Roar Pack was in attendance at the town's square. Everyone had gathered because the Alpha had arrived, and even though he had yet to explain the whereabouts of the groups he had taken to battle, they still welcomed him. Word had spread that he had summoned everyone, and they had appeared like ants, eager to know the outcome. Some of them had already packed up their bags. It was in their pouches, but it was also lined up on their beds. They wanted to be the first to move into Bittercullen, just to see how it felt to trample another man's territory. Then there were still the good ones who didn't come to cheer. The ones who wanted to protest about the way things were treated but didn't have enough courage to carry out the task. If the Alpha heard a single word of complaint, it wasn't news that he would not take it kindly. Then there was Rose. Waking up to this was the strangest feeling ever. She drew the knife on one fast love arm, and he gasped. “You’re lucky my daughter seems to find something in you.” He kept checking his name. And when he had concluded that it was still whole, he breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you for sparing my life,” he said, leaning against the pile once again. “I shouldn’t have. Now I’m regretting why I didn’t, now that it’s too late. With the way you ruined my life, who wouldn’t if the same thing was done to them?” “I regret it as well. Chapter 110Vanessa’s breath came in sharp, ragged bursts as she stepped onto the battlefield. The air reeked of scorched earth and blood and was filled with something fouler, something *alive*. Magic. Wild and hungry. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a drumbeat of fury and fear. She’d felt it was the moment Rose lost control. That shockwave of power, tearing through the night like a scream. It had iced her veins, screaming one truth: *Too late, too late, too late—* And now, as the chaos unfolded before her, her worst nightmare took shape. Rose hung limp over Reed’s shoulder, her hair a tangled curtain, her body too still. Vanessa’s chest caved in. *No. Not her. Not my girl.* Rage erupted inside her, white-hot and vicious. It begged for violence, for teeth and blood and fire. But she choked it down. This wasn’t the time for fury. This was the time for precision. One misstep, one reckless move, and her daughter was gone. Her eyes locked onto Reed. He stood there, smug, *v

This was a reminder of what he had been fighting for. She was worth it. She was worth every bruise, every scar, every drop he had spilled in the war. He would do it all over again for her and only her. “Is this because I talked about your father?” “Don't do this, Reed! She said no!” Grim said, leaning forward. He was trying to avoid the dark side of her coming to the fore. “Stay out of this, Grim. She is just being stubborn and needs to be reminded of what happens to people who think they can mess with me and get off free.” He slowed his tone, focusing his gaze on Rose alone. “I absorbed their necks right in front of their daughter. I ripped their hearts out.” Rose was fighting hard, but the image of her father’s face, begging in his last moments, wouldn't stop popping up in her min

Chapter 108Rose sat on the porch stairs, gazing into the distance. She could see it. The flames rising into the sky, the screams for help. Yes, the scent of blood had gotten to her as well. She could thank her hidden vampire sense of smell for that. It was just her and Vanessa at home. She had been sensing something was coming. Rose was waiting for her. She wanted to be the first to get the news of Judith’s return. Why hadn’t she snuck out yet? She was afraid of getting caught. It was an easy path to take back to the palace. But what could she do if she got there, huh? Werewolves now hated her. If she showed up, it would mean no surprise that they would either tear her to death or put the blame for what they were facing on her. To avoid that, she had stayed put. This was not a time for her tricks. The war was serious. Her mind kept wondering if Grim was still alive. Was he safe? The place she had seen him seated looked familiar to her. It was in Noetvelle, and that me

He had heard the stories about how Reed had treated Rose, how he had tortured our father and chased her from the pack. On top of that he had the guts to call her his wife?“I have no idea who you are talking about,”* Grim replied, picking up a piece from the floor. “Oh, man. The sound of the metal gates falling to the floor as they heralded the enemy. The sky over Nostville burned red with fire and chaos. Smoke billowed from the rooftops, filling the air with the acrid scent of destruction. It stretched as far as the horizon, and by the time Tom and his people arrived, no stone had been left unturned. Everywhere was hit. Every crevice was blown right open. Screams cut through the darkness—desperate cries of men, women, and children who ran blindly, their eyes wide with terror. The once-proud streets of the coven had become a battlefield, littered with bodies—some writhing in pain, others eerily still. Yes. Clearly, a spell was put on everyone. Shadows mo

As far as everyone else was concerned, their eyes were wide open, absorbing the gates in wait of the approaching battalion. Everyone was indoors. Rocking chairs sat alone, unoccupied, swinging with every tug from the violent wind. Even the windows remained still. For a community of people who were always fetching for gossip, everyone seemed settled in the inner parts of their households. It was better not to be aware of what was going on than to afford to be the first one that suffer the massacre that was brewing in the air. Their homes still stood the chance of getting attacked, but at least it was the safest they could be. Meanwhile, Reed was ever so comfortable in his seat.
