Chapter 39

Dale put down his pen, sighing. He had just taken down notes in his diary; an idea for a potion that he was working on.

Time had gone past since the great dark spirit had revealed the details of how to take down Grim to him. It was a creative plan but it surely was going to take a lot.

The only thing he was now worried about was Feria. He had sent her on a task hours ago and she still hadn't returned to him with news. That was unusual because he knew Feria too well. She was the yapper and would have surely returned with a tale of how things had given with Rose.

He was up and waiting for her but when evening time got close he began to get worried. She didn't stay this long without coming to spend time with him. Or was she suddenly receiving so much attention from Grim that she had forgotten about him?

That was a question that was answered by a knock on the door. He heaved a sigh, walking to the door and unlocking it. When he opened it. It wasn't who he was expecting that

Chapter 40Meanwhile, Rose was almost peeing her pants as she watched Dale go to his full form. She had seen him like this before but that didn't cancel out the fact that it was still menacing seeing him like that. How did she get here? She was in her room with Judy who was about to reveal some sort of secret. Grim barged on to tell her that the time he had given her was up. He dragged her off before she could appeal for more time. If only she had hesitated, she would have gotten the secret from Judy as well as avoided getting killed by Dale. There was nothing that Grim could do. She was sure of it. She was going to be killed, she had to. It was part of the law. Rose sighed, accepting her fate. She had known that she would only outrun death long enough without getting hooked. Her time had come. Grim looked at Dale. The latter had a smirk on his face. It looked like he had been waiting to do this for a long time m. “Don't worry, Grim. I'm going to kill two stones with one bird.

CHAPTER 41“What do you mean by there is a spirit within me ?” Rose asked. She looked down at her hands. “But nothing is coming out right now.” “That's because there is no immediate danger right now.” “Wait a minute. Are you saying that she is some kind of witch?” Grim yelled out pointing to Rose. The Sorceress scoffed. “Not a witch. She has powers, But she's not. Believe me, even I am surprised.” Rose couldn't believe it. “It's not possible. I have never gone through sorcery training a day in my life. I have always felt weak. There is no way I could have had these powers all along.” “You have. You just haven't had the cannon event to unlock them. They have stayed hidden until this moment.” “Cannon event?” Rose repeated, scoffing. “What's that?”“It's a moment when you go through some amount of trauma that pushes you to the edge.” Rose shook her head. There were a lot of moments when she had been pushed to the edge. If anything her cannon event should have been when the werewol

CHAPTER 42 Dale stood at the front of the throne room. The guards were averting their gaze as he paced in front of the door. The Grim he knew could kill him on sight but this one was more unpredictable but he needed to stay in Nostville and avoid looking for Vanessa. It was not like he even knew where to start. There was only one way his wishes to stay at Nostville could be accepted or rejected and that was if he walked in.The guards had told him that Grim had just returned from the woods with Rose where they had gone to see the sorceress but none of them knew what happened there. He breathed deeply before pushing the double doors of the throne room and entering cautiously. Grim wore an unreadable expression, staring at the door and Dale walked in.“I caught your scent for the long minutes you stood outside my doors,” Grim started as he stood up. “And I hoped that the gods had blessed you with just the right amount of brains to leave and run along, but you came in,” Grim growled, p

CHAPTER 43 Rose stood at the center of a clearing. She spun in slow circles, trying to remember how she’d ended up there, or why. The trees around her were tall and thick, casting long shadows, illuminated by the full moon. Her breath hitched as she tried to make sense of it, but the more she tried, the more confused she became. The air was soft at first, warm against her skin, ruffling her hair as it blew gently through the trees. For a moment, it felt peaceful, like everything was fine. But then the wind shifted. It started to pick up, a chill pushing out the warmth. Rose pulled her arms around herself, her body tensing as the temperature dropped. The breeze became harsh, biting into her skin, carrying with it the scent of something… something wrong. Then, from the edge of the woods, she saw it. A dark figure, moving slowly at first, like it was watching her. As it got closer, the shape began to solidify, but she couldn’t quite make out its features, she felt its eyes on her, col

CHAPTER 44She didn't have proof but she knew that Dale and Feria had something to do with the beating she had some days back, so when she heard that Dale had gone on some mystery trip that Grim had sent him to, she was beyond happy. “If I wasn't so weak...” “You were drugged, Rose. No one would have been able to defend themselves against that type of attack.” Judy cut her off, trying to make her feel better. But Rose just gave her a side-eye. “Well, not no one, but you'd need to be trained. That's all.” She added.“Exactly, I'm going to be trained...” Rose started but quickly stopped herself. She was about to tell Judy that she was going to be trained by the sorceress to master her powers. “Yes, you're going to be trained,” Judy said, not noticing the break.“Ouch,” Rose groaned as she tried to stare at Judy properly. The herbs Judy had given her to ease the pain had worked for all the parts of her body except the back of her head. “You should rest and forget about getting train

CHAPTER 45Rose was in shock as she stood in front of her room, the door wide open. The room had been flooded, and everything, from her shoes to her clothes, was soaked. Even the bed. Some maids passed and snickered when they looked into her room. She was already exhausted from being in Grim's chamber and the pain at the back of her head was not making it easier for her to think about what to do. She didn't know how the water had flooded her room but there was only one person in the coven that hated her enough to do that— Feria. And she had no energy to face Feria too so she sat on the floor and shoved Grim's diary deeper into her clothes, despite the curiosity closing in around her about its content. Her eyes drooped and she fell asleep. The same nightmare that had plagued her for days began again. The slow warm breeze blowing gently, then the chilling breeze, the formless dark shadow. But this time when it appeared, she could hear the whisperings of a lady's voice, like someone w

CHAPTER 46He felt the warmth on his skin but he hadn't thought enough of the afterlife to know if it was warm or cold or if it even had a temperature. He didn't even know where his kind went after death. His mind began spinning with events that led him there. He remembered going to see his fallen men, he remembered the look of anguish on their faces, the claw marks that had run across their torso and dug deep into their skin. At first, he had thought it was their mortal enemies, the werewolves but there was something about the claw marks that had felt self-inflicted, but he knew how werewolves always went for the throat when it was a kill strike. When Grim saw the arrows it had confirmed his suspicion, but also just made him more confused. Then one of the arrows exploded and felt like his clan had the power to stand before the sun was taken away from him as she stood in front of a very hot sun. It had begun to burn him, and he felt like ripping off his skin then… he couldn't rememb

CHAPTER 47Rose was still thinking about how she was going to get out of the situation when Grim led her into the throne room. Before he began talking, Feria entered the throne room with a broad smile on her face which faded from her face when she saw Rose standing before Grim. She turned away from Rose and faced Grim, a smile plastered on her face. “I'm so glad you're better my Lord,” she said and bowed. Lord Grim stretched his arms and she glided forward and kissed his arms then sat beside him. Rose stared at the two of them, Feria on the good side of Grim and her on the bad side. She just had to pray for a quick death which wasn't suggested by Feria. “What is it doing here?” Feria asked, glowering at Rose. “She read this,” Grim said, his eyes studying Rose. Rose was staring at Feria sitting beside Grim one second and the next second, she felt claws digging into the side of her neck. Feria was behind her, one hand holding her hair and the other hand had claws extended and press

CHAPTER 59Rose woke up to the sound of a knock on her door. She had ignored it, hoping the person would get the idea that she wasn't interested in seeing anyone and leave but the person didn't leave. It was after she stood up from her bed and went towards the door that the person left. She groaned and returned to bed, her hand instinctively going under her pillow to retrieve the book and flip through it again. She had flipped through the pages of her mother's red book so many times that she knew the number of pages. The thing was that even then, the brown pages were still blank. She had tried to read the book beside the light of fire, under the sunlight, under the moonlight but she couldn't see any writings. It was like a bad joke with no punch line. She had gone through so much trouble to carry an empty book. At the back of her mind, she believed that maybe her mom had taken the original and left the fake or she had met the sorceress to hide the writings in the book to prevent j

CHAPTER 58Reed had decided to call for a general pack meeting. The restlessness within the pack had increased and just like Kael had told him, he needed to do something about it. Make a power move. He was no longer respected, no longer feared, no longer revered. He knew they had their thoughts about him being Alpha but they had only been murmuring, now they were beginning to have the nerve to speak up. It felt like his control had slipped. But not anymore. For generations, the only language the pack understood was strength, power, and brute force and he would make sure they remembered who ruled them.He walked into the clearing where pack members had gathered for the meeting. The moon was not full but its glow was enough to illuminate the grounds, enough for them to see him and for him to stare into their eyes. Just as he had instructed, Kael had ensured that the place was packed with all the pack members. He walked up the highest rock where he stood alone, staring down at them qu

If she just said she came to see him, the maid would be expecting her to leave immediately after she realizes that he was not around. If she tells the maid that she came to pick something from the room, the maid could just wait until she is done. She needed the maid to leave so she wouldn't see her enter the restricted room. “Grim sent me. There's something urgent I need to do,” Rose replied with as much confidence as she could muster. The maid stared at her and she returned the stare without blinking. Her father had taught her about the importance of holding a stare. After a few seconds, the maid turned to the side and looked down. “Oh, okay,” she said as her cheeks tur

He could still hear her father’s voice in his mind, the last words he had spoken before Reed had silenced him with a single strike. “My daughter will take my place. She will be the Alpha.” Like the pack needed another weak Alpha that stunted its growth.Rose had been too foolish. She had been weak. And now, because of her father’s misplaced words, some pack members still had their loyalties to the dead man. They wanted her to be Alpha. They didn't say it out loud but he could feel it. She tried to rush him like she had done the last time but she couldn't. He kept disappearing into thin air as she neared him. And this time he wasn't as predictable as he was at the last time. “What am I doing wrong?” Rose asked, placing her hands on her waist as she stood.“Everything,” Grim responded. “I'm just testing you, your reflexes are not bad. When it comes to speed you are a natural. A little more training and you wouldn't be so slow,”“Thank you so much,” Rose replied with a healthy dose of sarcasm. “So now what?”Grim didn’t respond immediately. His face had gone white with fear and she had half expected it to rush towards her like it always did in her dreams. But one second it was there and the next it wasn't. The leader of the Vampire Clan had tried to kill him for conducting business in his territory but had thought better of it immediately upon learning he was Grim's brother.
