"What are you telling me to come here?" Avelyn folded his hands lazily across her chest. Meanwhile, the handsome man with light brown hair just grimaced from behind his desk which was filled with papers. With a happy face, he walked over to Avelyn, then hugged Avelyn tightly.
“I won a tender for digital product advertising. And you will be the model."
Avelyn only gave a faint smile without returning the man's hug. Her reputation as Michael's sister-in-law brought her a huge advantage as Michael gave her the job more often than any other model. No wonder her presence there is often the talk of people. Those who were jealous of her often threw gossip that she had sold her body to Michael in order to get the jobs.
"I wonder at you, why am I always the priority to become a model in those tenders?"
"Because that's their request," replied the man as it is. “You are a valuable asset to this company, so you deserve preferential treatment. Those who often talk about you and make vile accusations about you. But just ignore them.”
"You know about that? They’re badmouthing me." Avelyn asked in surprise.
She thought that he never knew that all this time she was being bullied invisibly by a bunch of junior models who were jealous of her career. She could say that only Rebecca could be sincere friends with her because she was never too concerned about the competition that occurred between the models.
"Of course. Whatever has to do with you, I know. It's just that I don't want to take it too seriously because of you too."
He released his hug and gave Avelyn a light kiss on the cheek. For a moment Avelyn didn't react because she seemed to be thinking about something. But when the man started stealing more kisses on her lips, only then did Avelyn come to her senses and immediately pushed the man's shoulder hard.
"What the hell are you!" Avelyn shouted loudly. “Never steal anything from me! Not even a kiss!” Avelyn's emotions gushed like fire.
Avelyn just pushed the glass door with the emotion she felt. A cold and strange chill immediately burst out of the empty room that Michael used to work in. In the middle of the room, Michael's large table seemed to be covered in thin dust. Then by the window, the black curtains occasionally moved slowly as the wind slid in through the openings to give a little fresh air to the room which had now been abandoned by its owner.
"Miss Avelyn?"
Just as Avelyn was about to step into Michael's room, Stuart called her from behind and seemed to frown at her. The tall man with a slightly oriental face kept staring at Avelyn deeply with his narrow eyes perfectly framed with white-rimmed glasses.
"Yes? What a coincidence, Stuart. I am looking for you."
Stuart raised an eyebrow, then he coded Avelyn into the room.
"You want a drink, Ave?" Stuart offered, setting himself a cup of coffee on the table.
Recently he made coffee in the pantry because he wanted to take a walk as well to get rid of his boredom. It can be said that the atmosphere at the office has not returned to normal after Michael's death because the office does not have a physical replacement leader.
"Thanks, but I just had a drink. Well, long time no see," greeted Avelyn with small talk. It felt rude if she immediately told the man that she came this time because she wanted to resign as a model.
“You look even more gloomy than usual. I'm sorry about your loss."
"Thank you."
After that there was silence. Either Avelyn or Stuart, they became awkward with each other because they hadn't really gotten along very well. Michael often monopolized her familiarity with the man in this office, who never liked that she looked familiar with other men besides himself, so Avelyn rarely got into long chats with Stuart or the other men in this office.
But even so, Avelyn often watched Stuart from afar. More or less she knows how the life of Stuart, who is a man of mixed Chinese and Canadian blood who was raised by his parents in Florida. Stuart's parents are corn garden owners who frequently export maize to all parts of America. Financially, Stuart is actually a rich man. But he didn't have a knack for agriculture, so he chose a career in Chicago as a manager.
"Okay, so what do you want to talk about?"
Avelyn placed her hands on the table, straightened her originally slightly bent body, then looked at Stuart intently with her pretty round eyes. “I want to step down as a model here. I'm moving."
"Why all of a sudden? Is it because of Michael's death?”
“Mmm… maybe. I want to calm down and start a new life."
"Are the rumors true?"
"Rumors about what?" asked Avelyn incredulously. Her thick eyebrows just clicked together when her brain was busy thinking.
"If you and Michael have a special relationship."
Instantly Avelyn chuckled at Stuart's words. Although the laughter didn't sound sincere, Avelyn felt genuinely funny at the statement Stuart had just made. “Yeah, brother-in-law and sister-in-law relationship. You're taking the jokes too seriously, Stu."
“Hmm... I thought you guys were in a relationship like lovers. But Ave, you have a shooting schedule the day after tomorrow." In a flash, Stuart changed the subject of their conversation from personal to work.
I will still do it. For the last time."
"Then the fine? You are still under contract with us."
"You take it easy. I'll pay the fine by next week. My lawyer will take care of everything. And speaking of the new leader, have you met McLean Kaofax?”
"Now that's what I also wanted to ask you for a long time." Suddenly Stuart becomes even more excited when they start talking about the mysterious man who will replace Michael in the office.
"What's wrong with that man?"
"I've never met him. But according to Michael's lawyer, the man was his best friend. Have you met him before?"
"Even the tips of the nails, I've never seen him." Avelyn snorted irritably. She thought Stuart was going to give her information about the man.
"Weird. Suddenly Michael's position was handed over to a stranger who had never shown the bridge of his nose here at all. After all, when did Michael empower that man? He should have touched me on that if he had given power to someone else."
"Tsk, don't be silly, Stu." Avelyn said with a snort. "Nobody knows if Michael will have an accident and... and... die." Avelyn's throat just choked up when she talked about Michael's death. Immediately her heart rate began to increase, and it took her a while to normalize everything.
"I'm sorry, Ave. I know it's tough, and I shouldn't be offending it. But I was just surprised, because that man only communicated through Michael's lawyer."
"Then the emails from him?" asked Avelyn incredulously.
"That is me. I'm the one who emailed the models on his behalf because it was asked by Michael's lawyer a few days ago. He said the work here had to keep going while waiting for him to be ready to take over the responsibilities given to him by Michael."
"Oh, I see. Too bad I won't have time to meet him."
"I'll send your greetings to him when he becomes the new boss here," chuckled Stuart. His glasses also moved up and down, following the rhythm of his crisp laughter.
"Then I'll go now. Our business is clear, right? See you next time, Stu. You're the best manager I've ever known," said Avelyn, stretching out her arms to hug Stuart. And without being awkward, Stuart returned Avelyn's hug while giving Avelyn a soft pat on the back.
"Good luck, Ave."
Dorris was never in such a hurry in the forty years of his life he working for Elvis Taylor. As a personal driver who is so obedient to the rules and also on time, Dorris always manages his life so that it is always effective and does not disappoint his master. But tonight he was a little negligent in carrying out his duties because a few moments ago he had been tempted by one of the maids in the mansion next door who for more than a month had been trying to aggressively approach him. Even Dorris was surprised at that woman, what did she really want from him? He is more than half a century old man who is not handsome. Even so, he does have a sexy well-built body and a friendly face that has always been his charm since he was born. So maybe that's what made Anna, the forty-year-old maid, chase his love ever since she saw him in front of the house when he was washing his master's car.Because of the woman's temptation, Dorris was now panicking because he should have arrived at the hospi
During the one hour at McDonalds, Avelyn finally felt full and she was ready to go on the next trip. With her suitcase dragging in her right hand, Avelyn walked along the long sidewalk on Century Boulevard which was so busy this afternoon. With her hair slightly disheveled, Avelyn looked like a beautiful homeless woman who stood out in her fashionable clothes. Several naughty car drivers opened their windows several times to tease Avelyn, who continued to put on an indifferent face. This was the risk if she chose to walk, Avelyn thought. She will definitely become a target for casual road users. But the first day she was in LA she wanted to spend it on foot. Even for this, she has prepared her best sneakers so that her feet won't hurt during this strange aimless journey."Hi sweetie, you want a ride?""No, thank you." Avelyn said sarcastically at a sexy black man who looked like a young executive. But she swear by whatever, Avelyn didn't fall for him at all. She is a young widow who h
Those beautiful eyes blinked slowly, feeling the soft sensation of the cotton blanket that was currently covering her body warmly. She felt the very comfortable blankets and sheets underneath. At one glance, Avelyn was very sure that she was not in the hospital right now as she had imagined two minutes ago. Before she decided to open her eyes, she had two cursed thoughts in his head. At first she thought that she was drunk and someone took her home to warm the bed while she was passed out. Then her second thought, someone had taken her to the hospital because before she fell due to the influence of alcohol and a tremendous sensation of sleepiness, she fell on the asphalt. With an incident like that, it was clear that someone who found her would think that she had a certain disease and accidentally passed out in the middle of a lonely city-to-city road with a large suitcase in her hand. So that person would have taken her straight to the hospital, hoping to be free from accusations of
Elvis could not close his eyes at all. Not with a woman sleeping in the guest room of the mansion. Anxiously, Elvis rubbed his face and reached for the cup filled with coffee on his table roughly. Yet according to the doctor in charge, he should take as much time as possible to rest. Apart from being no longer young, Fifty-three years old, he had also just gotten a leg fracture due to carelessness. So he should take as much rest time as possible and not burden his own mind with the image of her beautiful face. But no matter how much he tried, he could not in the slightest enter into the realm of his pleasant dreams. In fact, he continues to wake up every time he tries to close his eyes to rest. Finally he chose to wake up while enjoying coffee in his den. After all this week he had not touched his job. A small accident that broke his old bone because he was already brittle with age. For a long time he did not get the touch of women. His wife died about twenty years ago giving birth t
"Good morning Miss." Avelyn made the same moves as a few hours earlier. She blinked a few times and immediately opened her eyes wide to observe things that might have changed in the strange room she had occupied since last night. A half-century-old servant smiled sweetly at her bed. The woman has wrinkles around her eyes and lips which shows that she is a friendly woman who likes to smile so that the lines on her face are easier to form due to frequent attraction. Then on her head, the woman gave a small bun with a little gray hair tucked between her blonde hair. Overall the waitress was lovely. She also had a friendly smile that managed to keep Avelyn from feeling scared at all. "I hope you sleep well, miss." "Thank you. I did sleep well. Especially after eating some snacks." Avelyn blatantly glanced at the sandwich plate that still had one sandwich on top. But unfortunately the sandwich now looked even more unfit when hit by the dazzling light from the large window that the waite
Avelyn finally breathed a sigh of relief. After more than fifteen minutes she let out a shallow breath at Elvis's presence nearby. The old man is truly extraordinary, Avelyn thought with a groan. His brilliant green eyes managed to captivate Avelyn in just seconds. But not without reason Avelyn felt captivated by Elvis Taylor, the man's green eyes reminded her of Michael Phoenix. The man also had bright green eyes that Avelyn would never forget. Avelyn was upset, she kicked the rubbish that had fallen from her locker as she opened it wide. Someone who was more than just a fad, more despicable to be precise, must have planned all this for her. What a fool for her because she forgot to put a padlock in the drawer. And this is what will happen to her if she forgets to lock her locker as usual. The contents of the trash can next to her class had suddenly moved into her locker. Not to mention that her shoes have now gone missing somewhere after she finished with her swimming schedule with
Twenty minutes later Avelyn came down to the dining room with a fresher face and a more appropriate dress. Magda delivered her suitcase on time five minutes ago after she was done with showering and also drying her hair. She almost opened the wardrobe in the room to borrow one of the clothes because he couldn't find her suitcase anywhere. But thank goodness Magda came into her room just as she almost pulled open the closet door which was next to the bathroom door next door. "Sorry to keep you waiting, Mr. Taylor." "Absolutely not. Have a seat, Ave." Elvis invited Avelyn to join him for breakfast. For the first time in twenty years, the long wooden table was not only filled by him with silence. At least this time Avelyn brought a new atmosphere to Elvis's boring life. "I am very grateful to have met you, Mr. Taylor." "Call me Elvis," said Elvis half forcefully. He wanted his relationship with Avelyn to be more relaxed and less awkward because of their huge age difference. “Alrigh
Avelyn wiped the sweat running down her forehead after doing morning exercise around her apartment. Running in the morning around La Pietra Place is not a bad thing to change the atmosphere. She has been living in La Pietra for two weeks thanks to Elvis's generosity. He humbly rented her the apartment cheaply without giving her a deadline. It could be said that Elvis allowed Avelyn to stay in the apartment indefinitely. Even two days ago when Avelyn was invited to dinner at an expensive restaurant by Elvis, the man bluntly told her he wanted to give Avelyn the apartment for free. But of course it was immediately rejected by Avelyn because she did not want to be judged as a material woman who likes to extract wealth from a rich old man like Elvis. Their relationship that developed out of control made Avelyn sometimes confused with his heart. On the one hand, Avelyn felt that Elvis was a kind-hearted man with an amazing physique who was not inferior to the young men Avelyn often met.
The halls were full and bustling with Royale High School students. Avelyn walked as usual down the hallway, ignoring the scornful stares of her friends. Isn't that normal? Avelyn thought sarcastically. For almost three years, she had always received the same gaze from them. So this is no longer a problem for her. But is she sure that this is not a problem? A student suddenly blocked her way. He looked at her body with an impolite look, then suddenly gripped her chin with a painful grip. "Let me go!" Avelyn hissed sarcastically. As far as she knew she had never had any business with the dark curly-haired student. But she knew what his name was, Hudson. That boy had never bothered her, at least as long as she was with Michael. Only a fool would dare to deal with Michael. Unfortunately not anymore. Avelyn wasn't part of Michael anymore, ever since she slapped the man for her lecherous act. Their relationship was practically broken. Michael didn't come to her often in class anymore to d
Avelyn hesitated to ring the bell in front of her. But this is the only chance she has so she can be free from Michael who has been looking for her since five days ago. Her flight from that man was not time to stop. She had to keep moving in order to avoid Michael's hired spies whom he had seen in the various places he had been. This morning when she came out of her rented apartment on the outskirts of LA, she saw a man with glasses standing reading a newspaper across the street, right in front of her apartment window. Of course she wouldn't be as paranoid as it if the man she saw this morning was not the same as the man she saw yesterday while having lunch at a Japanese restaurant. Without any hesitation, Avelyn was sure that this man was the spy Michael sent to find her. But to hell with that guy. After she was sure that her position was known, she just walked out of the apartment, speeding fast right in front of the man using her sports car which she happened to be able to rely o
Elvis Taylor is an old man with a gloomy face who has not been touched by happiness during his life. Since his wife and child died, Elvis has continued to make himself like a robot who has absolutely no thought for his own health. Now at the age of fifty-three, Elvis looked so pale, his cheekbones protruded horribly because of his thin body. Her eyeballs, once brilliant green, had faded to a cloudy green from looking at the computer too much. Elvis's pale skin looked wrinkled here and there because of the effects of the hard drugs he had been consuming. Although he never considered his heart disease to be a serious disease, he occasionally took medication to survive. He needs to endure until he finds the right person to replace him. There are thousands of employees who survive from the business he started. If he dies, then who will be responsible for them? It's not easy running a business in the life of the family troubles that have haunted him for the past twenty five years or so. E
There is no worse day than today. Avelyn felt so bad he felt like crying. Really she hates being in the silence without anyone who will hold it. Rebecca here couldn’t help calm her down. And she also didn't want to keep bothering Rebecca just to hear all her sad story. She was an adult, married, but her heart and mind felt completely immature. Until now she hasn't even tried to fix the problem with Elvis. Her ego is really too high just to just contact Elvis, then invite the man to talk nicely. And because of that now Avelyn was sad. All day, after she came home from McDonalds feeling annoyed with Tobbie, she just stayed home without doing anything. Many times Magda knocked on her door, reminding her to eat, but she always refused on the grounds that she was full. But that's exactly what happened. She is full of the problems that have befallen her. This impulsive marriage in fact tortured her and made her heart waver. It is undeniable that her recent closeness with Lean has influence
Lean stroked the top of Hill's head affectionately. Just as he expected, Hill was still sick and not completely healed. After an hour of playing in the park, Hill has now fallen asleep on his shoulders. That kid was not as active as usual. When he tried to impress Hill with his basketball skills, the boy just clapped his hands without showing any enthusiasm. But whatever it was, Lean felt relieved that Hill was doing well. It only takes a little more time to rest, medicine, and nutritious food, and Hill will soon recover from illness. "Oh, I was just about to catch up with you." Letha looked surprised when Lean suddenly stood behind her who had just locked the apartment door. Seeing Hill sleeping comfortably on Lean's shoulder, Letha hurriedly opened the door to her apartment again and immediately opened the door wide for Lean. "Your friend is home?" “Yes, ten minutes ago. After clearing the glasses and plates, I intend to catch up with you. Is he a bother?" Letha led Lean to Hill
There was nothing Avelyn could do today. After returning from Lean's apartment, she found her house quiet as usual. Elvis is not home. Yeah, of course that guy couldn't be home at ten like this. It is certain that Elvis is currently struggling at his office desk to sign the dozens of files that come and go on his desk. Thinking about Elvis getting longer, it made Avelyn even more annoyed. The cold war that occurred between them actually made their household unclear like this. Even last night Elvis didn't contact her at all. Even though when Avelyn activated her cellphone this morning, she hoped Elvis would call her, looking for her with a panicked face while praying non-stop throughout the night, asking God for her safety. But all she got when her white cellphone was completely turned on was a pile of emails from credit cards, from the legality agency Lean who sent her a copy of the employment contract, then a few missed calls from Becca. In addition, there were absolutely no calls
Letha rested on her chin in Hill's room while accompanying the boy to play with his dinosaurs. It had been quite a while since Tatyana had said goodbye to go out with her boyfriend. Her heart had been wondering whether Lean would come to see his child? Is Lean willing to leave the pleasures that woman offers in his apartment? The more she thought about it, Letha's head grew dizzy and her heart pounded. She can't just keep expecting a man who clearly doesn't expect her anymore. This is her fault. The other side of her was sneering while laughing at her old foolishness. She was too arrogant when Lean volunteered take responbility to his past. And at that time, when Lean was staying at her house in Tacoma, Lean said he wanted to make a whole family for Hill. The man wanted to fulfill the dream of children in general who always wanted a warm family with a complete father and mother. How he hated himself, who at Hill's age could not feel a normal family life, so he didn't want something
Avelyn closed the door to Lean's apartment and stayed where she was with a frown as she stared at the door. Just now Letha came. But he thought the woman looked strange. Her face showed both nervousness and surprise when she saw her open the door. Avelyn then glanced at her own appearance from top to toe, at her bare feet. Instantly she patted herself on the forehead and voiced some curses for the stupidity she had done this morning. Really she didn't mean to misunderstand her. No wonder Letha immediately looked pale after seeing her come out to open the door. her appearance this morning really couldn't be said to be appropriate. She thought she was still wearing her wet dress last night because she didn't even check her appearance before getting out of bed. Moments ago she was awakened by the disturbing sound of the bell from the front door. She saw Lean sleeping soundly on the sofa, made her feel so sorry that she decided to open the door without waking Lean. Seeing the man so guar
All night Lean has to keep Avelyn from being unconscious. In a panic, Lean decided to take Avelyn to his apartment. It was completely unthinkable in Lean's mind to take Avelyn to the hospital because he was too worry about Avelyn's situation. Plus, if he took Avelyn to the hospital, it would only create a scene. In this city, even though people are indifferent to each other, there is still a sly paparazzi who likes to take advantage of the situation. So in the end Lean turned the steering wheel toward his apartment and immediately lifted Avelyn outside as soon as they reached the basement of the lonely apartment. One of the things he is grateful for about the apartment, they prioritize a very strict privacy system. None of the spies managed to infiltrate the apartment to extract information that the owner of the information did not allow. After Lean managed to bring Avelyn to his room, the man immediately laid Avelyn carefully on the bed and took a towel to dry Avelyn's drenched body
