Bella:

As soon as my mother said those words, the world blurred around me. I turned to face the triplets and Hazel. Their expressions hardened. Tears welled up in my eyes, but that wasn’t the problem—the churning in my stomach was. I pushed past the triplets, who tried to hold me back, and bolted toward the restroom. I barely made it before everything I’d eaten came rushing up, splattering into the nearest toilet.

I collapsed onto the cold tile floor, my body trembling. Moments later, Finn pushed the restroom door open, not caring that it was the girls’ restroom. He swooped me into his arms, cradling me against his chest as I wrapped my arms around his neck. Without a word, he carried me outside to where the others were waiting.

“Where’s Bella?” my mother asked, her voice cold. Ryder, Hazel, and Kai stepped aside, revealing me in Finn’s arms. “Your bags have been packed in the dorm, and Fred is waiting outside to take you home.”

As soon as she finished, Kai spoke up, his voice trembli

She kept tossing and turning, her mind consumed with thoughts of her daughter, whose condition had flared up again. The first time Bella had experienced this was when Evelyn reappeared in her life when she was ten, shattering Bella’s hopes of having a happy family and making it clear that she was now happily married to the Alpha of the Frost Pack. When she could no longer bear the turmoil, Evelyn reached for her phone on the nightstand, turning on the flashlight. She quietly made her way to Bella’s room.Easing the door open, she stepped inside and saw Bella fast asleep, her breathing steady and calm. Evelyn moved closer to the bed and sat down gently beside her daughter, her gaze softening as she looked down at Bella. He took off at once, going after her to know what was troubling her.Evelyn’s steps led her to her father’s old cabin in the woods, her safe haven. Bella:The next time I opened my eyes, I saw it was already morning. I pushed my legs off the bed, and just as I was about to stand, the door to my room swung open, and my mother walked in.“How are you doing this morning?” she asked flatly. I sighed, wondering why she kept acting like she cared.“I’m alive and kicking, contrary to what you thought,” I said, looking her in the eye. Her face was all gloom, but I didn’t care. She had made my life a living hell, and whatever it was, I was sure she deserved it. The room fell silent for a moment as I got to my feet, my legs almost giving out beneath me. I stumbled, catching myself with a hand on the bed.“You should lie down. The doctor will be here any minute now,” she said. I rolled my eyes and stood up again. As I took a step, someone knocked on the door.“It’s Fred, and the doctor is here,” he announced. She opened the door at once, revealing a red-haired woman with a briefcase standing beside Alpha Fred. The woman walked into the room

Bella:What was this? My mother knew Alpha Fred when they were younger—and worse, they had taken a picture together. Not just anywhere, but on the hills, the very spot Ryder had introduced me to as his favorite. The view in the photograph replayed in my mind, the way they sat with their hands intertwined, which could only mean they were more than just friends.“What cannot be?” My mother’s repeated question snapped me back to reality. I panicked and shoved the portrait behind me, tossing it into the unlit fireplace. The picture slipped from my trembling fingers, sliding down the cold bricks with a soft thud. I forced a neutral expression as I turned to face her, my heart pounding in my chest. She stood there, her brows knitted and her arms crossed tightly over her chest.“You asked the triplets not to visit me?” My voice rose, quivering with frustration. Her gaze softened, but she took a deep breath before replying.“Bella, you’re sick, and I don’t want anything to tamper with your he

Third person pov:Evelyn made her way to her office as usual, keeping her face stern, the expression that commanded respect from the students. She strutted confidently down the hallway, nodding politely as students greeted her, though her smile barely touched her eyes. It wasn’t until she reached the corner by her office that she allowed herself a moment of relief, exhaling deeply as the tension in her shoulders eased.Once at her office door, she rummaged through her bag, retrieving her keys. As she inserted the key into the lock, a familiar voice called out behind her.“Good morning, Principal Evelyn.”Evelyn spun around, her stern demeanor softening instantly. It was Hazel, her daughter’s best friend and the brightest student Howlstone had seen in two years. Seeing Hazel brought a small sense of comfort, but she quickly reminded herself of her resolve. She couldn’t let Hazel visit Bella.“Hazel, if this is about Bella, I’m sorry, but I’ve made up my mind. You can’t see her, and—”“

Third Person Pov:“If we have to get Hazel, we need to find a way to lure her out of school,” Kai said, and the others nodded as they rallied around, thinking of a foolproof solution that would convince her to leave school with them.“How about we tell her that Bella wants to see her? We could say we’re sneaking into the house… something like that.” Finn suggested, and after a while, they all agreed to it since they didn’t have anything better.Kai and Finn agreed to go to Hazel’s room together while Ryder was to get the car started. The moment the twins left, and Ryder grabbed his keys, he spotted Hazel through the window in front of the dorm, causing him to pull out his phone.“She’s in front of the dorm, and we need to leave right away!” He rushed out of the room, almost colliding with the twins in the hallway as they made their way to the elevator. As soon as it stopped on the ground floor, they raced to the front door, ducking behind a flower the moment they saw Sebastian’s car p

Bella’s pov:Seeing Halle in the flesh made me feel a bit relieved. For the first time in a while, it seemed like my plans were falling into place.“Bella, we need to talk,” my mom said calmly, sitting on the bed. I tried to keep a neutral expression, waiting for the lies she was about to feed me.“You cannot stay with Hazel.” When she said this, my eyes widened, and she reached for my hand. “Halle said you needed to tap into your vampire side for a few months. The treatment she was going to give you would weaken your wolf since you were constantly in that energy.”Her words made little sense, a fine taste of beautiful nonsense. I took a deep breath, then pulled my hands away from her.“I don’t understand, and I’ll never understand why you do these things to me, but do I have a choice?” I asked, searching her eyes, wishing she’d solve just one of the puzzles that bugged my life—hers. How many years of lies had she hidden behind those eyes? They’re always busy with their finals, and it’s as if they need me physically to act like my mate.”When Hazel heard this, she was skeptical at first, but considering the fact that the triplets barely called her, she assumed nothing serious was going on.“I have a lot to tell you, and can you imagine my mother moved me out of your room? When were you going to tell me?” Bella’s voice rose in pitch. “This woman is getting on my nerves, and I’ve got a lot to get off my chest!”This piqued Hazel’s interest immediately. Third Person Pov:After a few minutes, Hazel sat up in bed as sweat clung to her skin while she stared blankly at the dark room. The thoughts of what had happened earlier still swirled through her mind, and Riley’s comforting presence next to her did little to soothe the icy knot of fear and dread settling deep in her stomach. Something about the nightmare didn’t feel right—it felt far too vivid, and too real to be just a dream. Her parents’ faces and the accusations in their voices couldn’t be figments of her imagination, and the witch in her refused to let it go.“No,” she whispered in a shaky breath.Riley’s hand rubbed soothing circles on her back. “Hazel, it was just a nightmare. It’s okay—”He tried to convince her with a sleepy voice, but Hazel shook her head sharply, pushing the covers off her body as she swung her legs over the edge of the bed.“It wasn’t just a nightmare, Riley,” she said firmly, trying to steady her voice. While Bella was battling the ghost of Joseph Black-Moon, Hazel was in the Dusk Pack with Riley, trying to enjoy her weekend. They had spent the entire day driving from the Frost pack to his father’s mansion at a beach with a good ocean view. Finally, they got there in the evening.“My butt hurts,” Hazel groaned as soon as Riley came to a halt in the enormous mansion in front of them.Riley leaned in to kiss her cheek. “You can rest all night now, and we can do whatever we want tomorrow.”He spoke as though he hadn’t been the one driving the entire time while Hazel had done nothing but play songs, read a book, and sleep through the entire ride. Bella:Today was cheerful enough for most of the students at Howlstone Academy. The vibrant energy of exam prep filled the air, a relief from the tension that had shadowed the halls two weeks ago when Fae was expelled. There were no bullies lurking around to ruin the day, and for once, I didn’t have to glance over my shoulder, expecting someone to plot my demise. As usual, I walked to class with Hazel and the triplets. The sun streamed through the tall windows, casting long beams across the polished floor, but something about the brightness felt off. It was too cheerful, too perfect. As soon as we stepped into the hallway, the bell blared through the air, startling me.“That’s the bell for class,” Hazel said, her voice snapping me back to reality.“See you guys later,” I said to the triplets, giving them a quick wave as I grabbed Hazel’s hand.We made our way down the corridor, the familiar hum of conversation and footsteps filling the space.
