Elara's POV

‘For Marco to be away from you… Hate you… Break off the deal - Isn't that what you've always wanted, Elara?’

The tiny voice in my head questioned its tone was a mix of mockery and reality.

Without denial, that was exactly what I hoped for, wished for, and prayed for. I wanted to be away from him for my peace of mind, for Violet.

Except now, it only felt wrong.

It felt like I had been charged with life imprisonment like I was trapping myself in a box and shutting it out of the world.

Marco, the supposedly black demon, was my light, the brightest after Violet.

He'd shown me what true love and obsession meant, what it felt like to be loved by a king of his kind.

Maybe quite psychopathic, but genuine… or too dominant, but what if I wouldn't want to be loved any other way?

“Damn it.”

I sighed and fell flat on the bed, tired of the dozens of thoughts going through my mind at a go.

The few days he'd recoiled to his shell, treated me like nothing other than an object for his pleasure and given me the cold shoulder, it felt like hell.

This morning was worse.

It was obvious how jealous and possessive of a man he was. His dark eyes, angry tone, tensed muscles… silence.

Maybe I'd just call off this little game Evelyn, and I had to roll.

30 days.

It was all I gave myself to have a wrong perception about Marco. And also to let myself be loved by him.

If it ever turns out to be the best days of my life, I'd let him in, shut the world up, and be his queen. I'd be his peace… and surely, I'd let him know about his daughter.

But if not, I'd walk away, elope to a faraway country with my child, start a new life with a whole different identity,, and continue the drill.

Filled from eating like a glutton just to get Marco's torment off my mind, I was now exhausted.

My mind drifted to  Evelyn and her fake neighbor. He must be back now, maybe already lying to her about the sour date. I wasn't entirely worried about his whereabouts considering what happened. The delay must be him getting treatment.

‘What if he makes Evelyn his next victim? What if he yaps about your real identity?’

Plenty of what-ifs tormented me.

Besides, it was high time she knew about my past and real self.

Since Marco was still with my phone, I needed to escape this prison.

It's been two hours since he had left and he might be back any moment. Springing on my feet, I winced, feeling the anal plug poke my soft wall.

“Such an asshole.” I groaned under my breath, hating Marco this minute. “I'd get my revenge. That I promise.”

Sighing and dragging my heavy feet along the place, I changed into something more comfortable; a sundress that was free on me. The bright yellow color was soothing on my skin. I let my hair fall around my shoulders, picked up my purse, and started for Violet’s room.

She was under the sheets, curled up with Birdie. I'd hate to break their cozy moment and wake her up,  but she was my only key out of this house.

“It's okay, baby.”

I whispered in her ears and patted her back.

The private bodyguard assigned to me started behind me, keeping tabs.

It was a good thing he didn't try to stop me. I bet Marco hadn't warned his men not to let me out.

“Sleep carefully, hun,” I murmured to Violet once we got into the back seat and she tried to find comfort.

The drive to Evelyn's house was shorter.

I left Violet in the car and rushed down the walkway. It was going to be a brief meeting.

Her windows were locked, which was unusual. Knocking on the door, I didn't get any response.

Again, I knocked, hoping she was inside, sleeping.

“Lily!”

Her shrill voice called from behind.

Before I could get a balance, she threw herself around me in a warm hug and sniffled.

Wait… was he still not home?

The moron must have called his petty game quit and left.

“Is everything okay?”

I permed her hair and waited for her to respond at her own time.

She shook her head against me and sobbed a little more.

“He still isn't home.” Her voice sounded weak now. She looked and sounded too concerned.

“Uh… maybe he has an emergency.”

“And his line? It isn't reachable.”

I wish he could just go missing forever. Ah!

“What have you done so far?” I asked instead.

She shook her head and finally pulled away. “Nothing yet, just trying to blow up his phone with calls.”

A minute of silence followed.

“Can you do me a small favor?”

My throat swelled when I swelled dryly. With Evelyn, there was nothing like a small wish.

“Please join me to go to the station. I need to report his odd disappearance.”

For someone who almost harmed me, I rather trek the whole of New Jersey and be smitten by the harsh sun.

“Alright. When?”

“Now.” She held my wrist and dragged me towards the parked car. “I guess it's the only good thing that came with that psycho.”

We gossiped and ranted about a few things while the driver took us to the nearest station.

“So, Matthew hasn't spoken to you since the day?” I tried to act a bit concerned.

“He hasn't.” She hissed. “Are you sure nothing happened?”

“We're here, Lady Elara.”

The driver's announcement saved the day. I hurried out, but not leaving Violet.

DESCRIBE THE STATION.

Side by side, we walked to the reception. Once we crossed the lobby, Evelyn doubled her pace. She was now by the desk, waiting for the desk officer to be done.

“Hi. Please, I need to speak with the officer in charge.”  Evelyn began. “I… I think that my neighbor is missing.”

“Please, hold on for a moment.” The young lady pressed her keyboard and resumed focusing on Evelyn. “We need to get your statement, then we will get you an officer to be in charge of it.”

Evelyn nodded. “He hasn't returned till now, which is strange.”

The receptionist beat her keys as she tried to catch up. “Okay… Do you perhaps know why he left last night?”

“Yeah - he… he went on a date.”

The lady paused to look at Evelyn and then myself; her gaze was judgemental. And it wasn't her fault. Evelyn seemed to be overreacting.

“Have you tried calling him?”

Evelyn nodded.

“Uh… Could you please provide us with your basic information?”

She pushed a file and allowed Evelyn to make her entry.

“If anything happens before twenty-four hours, kindly inform us.” Her tone was calm. “Since there isn't any form of emergency, we need to wait for twenty-four hours to lay a complaint of missing person.”

Evelyn nodded.

“Have a great day ma'am. I hope to hear from you.”

We walked out of the station, with Evelyn disappointed.

“He's okay wherever he is.” I broke the silence and tried to make the atmosphere lively.

“I hope so.”

When we got to her house, I remained in the car and watched her leave. Time was far spent. If I followed her in, it meant that I'd listen to her rant all day, and piss off Marco.

She got to her doorstep, and we were about to drive off when her shrill cry broke the air.

“Stop. Stop the car.”

He jerked to a halt, with me falling forward. Thankfully, Violet had her belt on. The cry made her murmur in her sleep, but that was it.

I got down and ran the flight of steps. Now standing next to Evelyn's shaking frame, I looked at the brown medium-sized carton in front of her.

It had trails of blood.

In it were ten fingers and a roughly chopped head… Matthew's!

Oh. My. God.

Elara’s POV “What the heck?!”I sprang to my feet at my mother’s revelation. The words were hard to digest and for the hundredth time, I hoped it was a stunt. “Get ready, we’re hosting your betrothed for breakfast, tomorrow.” Sitting graciously in her seat with her legs crossed at the knee, there were no signs of remorse or anything I expected. Beside her, my father just looked at me with what seemed like pity. He folded the newspaper he was reading and tried poor damage control. “Look, honey,” he muffled. “It's for the best…”“I'm not even ready.” I angrily cut him off. “And even if I were, it would never be to a stranger.” “Young lady,” my mother snapped. “I can tolerate your cussing, but what I won't take is you disobeying your father.” This wasn't a joke after all. “He's not a stranger. Plus, he's a good guy.” I held back a series of sobs about to rip out. All my life, I had taken orders from them and lived under their umbrella like the decent daughter of a clergyman sho

Elara’s POV “No. No. No…” My heart sank as I stared hard at the pregnancy strip. It's been four weeks since the reckless affair. Suddenly feeling strange and missing my period, I had to get the test kit after much reluctance. “Please, god.” I mumbled, my fingers shook terribly. This felt like the longest one minute of my lifetime. Two marks?!My heart dropped deep into my stomach, with my guts twisting hard on themselves. It felt like I would pass out. Thick beads of sweat broke out of my pores and drenched me in ruin. First, I was engaged to a man I barely knew, gave my virginity to a freaking stranger who was reckless enough to bang me without protection, and now… “Argh!” I fell flat on my butt and cried. The sting from the fall wasn't as brutal as my broken heart, blocking the painful sensation as a result. My whole life was in shambles!!!“No. This can't be happening.” I groaned in severe pain and scoffed in disbelief. Unexpectedly, I heard my room door burst open and t

Elara’s POV ‘Let this be our little dirty secret.’ My mother’s words continued to replay in my head. Tonight, over dinner, I’d decide if to get rid of the baby, or pin it on Nathaniel. Or, let Marco in…Standing on the subway, I looked at the grand building that had ruined my life. Quite shaky, I was not ready to face the devil twice. Perhaps if he was warm, it would only be to get in between my thighs twice. A man like him dreaded commitment, talk more of with a loose stranger like myself. Tears stung my eyes. I was about to experience a meltdown in public. I couldn't fathom getting rid of an innocent child. ‘Not now, Elara.’I cautioned myself and shut my eyes for a while, so I could get myself together. Sin. Filth. Darkness. They were the only thing Marco reeked of. Even if he accepted responsibility, he wasn't a man I could take to my parents, or show to the world, or even be around my baby. ‘What have I done?!’ Oddly, the strong wave of his cologne, coupled with the fee

MARCO’S POV “Your father’s killer is on the run.” Kaid informed me, his voice as cold as ice as he yapped. We were on the terrace of my 80-foot tall mansion and holding my glass of brandy and my cigar, I dragged and gulped, the strong mix of alcohol and mint-flavored cigar hit me hard in my guts…Just as fucking hard as Elara! I scoffed and bit my lower lip, weird emotions consumed me, spreading smoothly like poison. She was young and naive. That night, I had groomed her to be mine, only to meet her absence. Somehow, her actions bruised my ego in an irredeemable way, and it made me detest and crave her at the same time. Her smooth skin was like white chocolate beneath my hard brown one, sweet-smelling fragrance, and provocative innocence! Never has a lady crossed my bed twice, but with Elara, it was my freaking mind! I had caught her sight when she stood afar as if trying to call for me. So, I stalked her and found out who she truly was. The daughter of an arch-enemy! After

Elara’s POV Three Years Later.“... Your daughter just fell off the stairs and she is in a bad state.” Numb. Dumb. My mouth fell a gap but no words formed. With my mind going blank for a minute, I stuttered in utter confusion. My heart pounded as if it would explode.“Come to the hospital right away, Miss Lilian.” The cold tone of Violet’s teacher echoed in my head. The call dropped. My cute three-year-old was supposed to be in school and I was going to pick her up in about an hour… Not this crap! ‘Paediatrics Emergency Ward. Mardi Clinic.’My phone chimed with the message. I shot up and bolted for the door, not caring about how shabby I looked. I hissed the address once I flagged down the first taxi. Mumbling strings of prayers, my eyes shut to hold back tears. My legs quivered and I was this close to tossing the driver out of the window and driving myself there, that's if I wouldn't be long dead from the crazy speed. On arrival, I paid him and jumped down without waiting fo

Guilt?...“Are you- are you stalking me?” Sweet and seductive, just as I remembered, her voice trembling voice betrayed the last straw of her confidence. With each step I took towards her, she pulled backward, and the rough click of her heels scrapped the tarred road. She gasped when kissing her back and kissed the high wall of an already closed mall. Her small fingers laced in anxiety and her eyes widened as I approached her. I leaned forward, towering my huge frame over her petite ones. My outstretched hand pressed to the wall, above her head. “Is that one of your fetish?” This time, I half-crashed against her, my mouth lingering around her small face. A soft sigh escaped her lips and she pressed her eyes shut. My hand itched beside me, in need to clutch around her white fragile neck and slip

In less than a minute, my phone chimed with the details bold on my screen. Noted. Locking my phone and setting it down, I picked up my cutlery and resumed chopping through the pan-seared chicken breast with sprinkles of mayonnaise and honey as sauce. Kaid was beside me, standing off my personal space, hands crossed per usual, and face as straight as my ass. It was almost thirty minutes past breakfast and Elara was yet to show up at the table. Marco's POV ‘One bastard down. One more to go.’Lounging on the couch, I dragged on my cigar and puffed, dispensing my thick smoke in the air-conditioned room, as it formed a white cloud above me. Kaid slightly bowed after delivering the old news, and stepped aside, taking camp behind the couch. The moment I focused more on Lucas and my cousin, I noticed the slight detachment on Kaid's end. His sudden out-of-sight mode, busy calls in the guise of work… He was next. And fuck it, if he was in with Sofia, he'd kill himself with his weapon, and his fucked-up soul would never forgive him in hell.I gulped down what was left of the shot and signaled for him to pour another, only thrusting a finger up. “Si, Don.” He poured a shot and stepped aside, hands crossed in front of him. Perched to the door frame and going undetected, I watched her banging body wrapped in thick hilarious clothes as she shifted on her feet, nervous. She pressed the phone to her ear and played the voice message in low volume. ‘Lily, I think Matthew is missing… Call me whenever you get this.’Her suddenly trembling hand tried to dial the number. To be certain that she was alone, she turned to confirm it, only to be faced with my hard figure. Shocked, she jerked, causing the phone to almost slip off her slippery hold. Like I was a child, she hid her hands behind her back. Even her three-year-old was smarter. “The phone.” I pulled my hand out, my demand was direct and fierce. Still, she tried to be adamant. It was the same reason we got here - her stubbornness.“Give it now.” Slowly, she walked towards me, her big eyes widened, eyelashes flickered. She looked pitiful, maybe broken. Not

I could still feel my pussy vibrating between my thighs, spitting slimy precum, needing the slightest attention. My hands twitched, desperate to defile his warning. ‘How would he know, Elara? He wouldn't the heck!......Just touch yourself already!’My mind was about to split with conflicting idea. Coming to a resolve, I adjusted in bed, settling on my elbow. Bending down to look at my body, there were visible marks of his penetration. One… two… three… seven. The last two were faint- tempting me to replace them and he wouldn't find out. A man dumb enough to go for someone else's property, with a full blown mark on her body. And definitely a man with a death wish. I had so much to worry about and Elara just decided to add to it in her loving wish.
