2024-10-29 19:42:56Shouts erupted at the table. A few slammed their hands on the table in disbelief. I heard things like: a halfbreed for queen? Others called me a common slave. Thane raised his palm and the table quietened.
"That is unacceptable" a man with white hair shouted. All eyes were on me. Some with happiness, some with hate and some expressionless. Thane wiped his mouth gently with a napkin.
"Is that a challenge?"
"Not at all my king."
"Then seat Anstice." The elderly man begrudgingly sat. The meal continued in silence after that. I felt a few people glare at me but I didn't look up. I focused on my plate ignoring them and yet unable to stomach anything.
"Eat" I looked at him and back at the plate immediately. I managed spoonfuls and quietly excused myself from the table.

Two days had gone by since the challenge was issued. I hadn't left my room in those two days and nobody had come to check up on me. There was a dull ache in my abdomen today and I felt a bit feverish. The door lock clicked and the door was pushed open. Training with Eridian had been going well. I learnt a few tricks from him but I was yet to beat him. His speed and strength gave him an edge over me. Each time I whined, he reminded me Gardenia would be fighting for my submission. The contest had been moved to the end of the month so, I had a lot of time to practice.Archery had been the worst during my training. I was barely able to hold the bow properly much less hitting the bulls eye. I needed to be good at atleast one activity. Don't get me started on hunting. I was too noisy to catch a damn rabbit. The week for the challenge had finally reached. The first activity was a race. We were given a starting point in the forest and clues to find our way to the finish line. I pulled on my leather pants and sports bra and headed downstairs. Today was for hunting. I had lost the first game to Gardenia. I donned my white dress angrily. I suddenly felt like I was entertainment for the guests. Why did they have to add these games. We could have just had the goddamned sword fighting and let it end there.As I was walking, I bumped into a guard. I looked at my dress and saw I had been changed into a light dress and my injuries were cleaned up.He held the cup to my mouth and I took small sips.
