His Approval

Alex found himself walking towards the two people talking in the corner. He felt compelled to seek out the laughter that had made his heart skip. As he approached Lee and Alvin, they stopped talking.

Lavender looked up at her boss as he stood before them. " Mind sharing the joke? I don't mind sharing the laughter with you. " Alvin noticed how Lee had instantly become uncomfortable in Alex's presence.

" Ugg, bro. You ruined the moment. You Ought to stay and talk to the clown and his daughter. I was having fun talking to Lee over here. By the way, I like your new secretary. I am sure we will get along just fine.

The two people looked at Alvin with different expressions on their faces. Alex looked at his best friend with a warning glare while Lee had a subtle smile gracing her lips. " Shall we head to the office, boss?" She asked.

Alex looked back at his secretary then at his best friend. " You can go ahead. I have something to talk about with Alvin. I want the report and minutes for this meeting in thirty minutes. You better hurry up."

Lavender almost blurted out that he should be more polite but realized her main goal for being at his company. She clenched her fists, but there was no change in her expression. With a nod, Lee left the two men to their business. As she stepped out, Alvin's voice resounded behind her, " See you soon, doll. It was a pleasure to meet you." She loosened her fist and smiled at the man as she closed the door behind her.

" Can you not call her that? You just met, for crying out loud. While you are at it, can you also refrain from embarrassing me ?" Xander spoke in an irritated tone. At first, Alvin was perplexed. Shortly after, he burst into a chime of loud and boisterous laughter.

He laughed until tears streamed out of his eyes. "You.." his laughter proceeded until an annoyed Xander hit him in the face. The pain made him stop laughing, but a knowing look crossed his eyes.

" Yo bro, are you by any chance jealous of how I interact with your secretary? Besides, it's not the first time that I have embarrassed you. I mean, that is my role as your best friend. If I don't embarrass you, who else will?

Forget about that for a moment. Do you by any chance have a crush on your secretary? She is a hottie. I would dig that, but you know who owns my heart!" Alex felt flustered, yet all he did was glare at his friend.

" I don't have a crush on her. I find it professionally unethical that you called her by that endearment. Besides, if you know who gets to hear you call her that, you know what will happen."

Alvin gulped as he thought of that certain someone. He misses her. The two men stayed like that for a while before Alvin bounced back with more energy. " I like lee. You should probably court her. I approve." Looking at the sour look on Alex's face, he smirked. He has a crush on her.

Alex and Alvin discussed some financial issues before they left the board room for the office. When Alex arrived, he found Lee seated at her table on her computer. She had worn a reading glass and was extremely busy to notice his presence. He stood there just watching her work.

Her long lashes formed a curtain on her beautiful orbs, masking them from view. Yet, it only added to her beauty. Her oval-shaped face did justice to her young age.' Damn, she looks hot,' he thought. Recalling how she had laughed freely and carelessly with his best friend, a bitter feeling encased his heart. He suddenly felt the urge to scold her.

Clearing his throat, he attracted her attention. Lee, who had noticed him from the beginning, pretended to have just seen him as she stood up quickly to acknowledge his presence by uttering a quick, " Sir."

Cute, he thought.

Naïve and innocent, she thought.

"Is the report ready?" He asked in a commanding and condescending tone. " Yes, sir. It's on your desk together with your schedule for the week. I am currently working on next week's schedule. Just need your signature to confirm some of the activities and events for the week."

For a second, just a second, a look of surprise glinted in his emerald gaze, alighting with delight. He recovered fast enough to hide his expression. " Well, I am yet to approve of your work. You shall hear from me in no time before the day ends. Then we shall talk about things as professionals."

He felt that he should not be lenient, but he could not bring himself to be harsher than that. Lavender looked fragile and vulnerable, giving him the feeling of harboring the need to protect her. Yet, he didn't show any of that as he walked into his office. He found the documents on his desk and went through each of them.

He checked and rechecked every three times but didn't find even a single full stop out of place. He would be a liar if he didn't admit that he was impressed. The problem was, however, Alex found it very difficult to praise his workers. He had something else to check before summoning her.

He opened his Email and read the information that was available on Lee's Curriculum vitae. By the time he finished going through her documents, all he could say was, wow! Indeed, she was no ordinary girl. He had initially doubted her capability due to her youthful look. Now he felt honored to have her around. He touched the call button, which she responded to in no time.

Lee knocked on the door and entered after he gave his permission. Alex stood up from his chair and walked towards his new secretary. He outstretched his hand to shake hers. " Welcome to the company Ms. Lavender. It's an honor to have you around. I hope we shall work well together to make each other work easier."

Lee stretched her hand and placed them in his. Electric sparks sizzle between their hands the moment they touched. Lee shivered as she diverted her eyes from his intense one. She was sure about her attraction to the man. He was the one she had been in love with all her life ever since she knew what love meant, but of course, he was out of her league.

" Thank you, sir. I hope to help make your work easier for you as well as learn from you. Please be patient with me. It is my first ever practical job." I like the sound of her voice, Xander thought as he nodded. For some reasons unknown to him, he felt that she was strangely familiar. Especially her scent.

" Do I know you from somewhere?" He blatted out before he could stop himself.

Lavender looked up at him but decided to keep things to herself. She was not sure that she trusted him enough to tell him the truth as of yet. Hence, she shook her head no." I have been homeschooling almost all my life and hardly interact with people. I don't think that we have met before, but it's good to know you, sir. " Her cheek tainted red showcasing a lovely blush.

Alexander let go of her unwillingly. He soon took her around for an official induction. He took the initiative to induct her himself, Unlike the other new workers, who were inaugurated by the Department heads. He used the excuse that he wanted to pay a random visit to different offices. In the process, Alex introduced her to the other workers on his floor.

The two went back to their respective desks after their tour. It marked the beginning of their interesting professional partnership.
