I sighed after telling Desmond about my dad. He looked happy, and I knew I should feel the same. Maybe I was, but my emotions were a mess. Conflicted. How could I even begin to explain it?

"Are you not happy to finally meet your dad?" he asked, clearly sensing my agitation.
